UrthBox March 2016

Urthbox is a healthy snack subscription that sends out all sorts of goodies that are better for you then regular snacks.  They offer four different boxes, vegan, diet, classic or gluten-free.  They also offer four sizes of box, mini, small, medium, and large, which range from 6 to 24 items per box.  I picked this one up on a Groupon so I got six months of the mini for $32.00.  Boxes normally run from $12.99-$39.99 a month. If you really like people you can also get an office box that has 100 snacks and will set you back $199 a month. Let’s see what’s inside this month.

20160406_171952 20160406_172208

The box is stuffed!  After I took the pictures I tried to put everything back in and I couldn’t close it up.

20160406_172002 20160406_172157

Pipcorn Mini Popcorn-23g $1.13

This is popcorn that is made from mini kernels so the shells are smaller and don’t get caught in your teeth.  This one is truffle flavoured.  I have no clue what a truffle tastes like so this will be an experience.  This whole bag is 90 calories and gluten free if that matters to you.

20160406_172013

Little Secrets Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Premium Chocolate Candies-42.5g $2.50

These seem to be something like an M&M.  The center is peanut butter, followed by a layer of dark chocolate, covered in a candy coating.  They have no artificial ingredients, flavours, or colours.  They are also fair trade.  Possibly best of all…..there is a unicorn on the package.  Who doesn’t love unicorns?

20160406_172023

Mind HD Clear Brain Fog Supplement-2 capsules $2.00

This product is supposed to promote clean, sustained focus and help you perform at a higher level.  It does not have caffeine in it and you can take up to 6 pills a day.  It is not recommended for those breastfeeding so I’ll have to give it a pass for now but they don’t expire for a year yet so I’ll give them a try eventually.

20160406_172034

Fru-licious Fruit & Cream Smoothie-40mL $0.31

This is a freezie.  It is made with real fruit juice and I’m thinking the girls will get this when the ask for a freezie, which is at least six times a day right now.

20160406_172048

Kutoa Chocolate Banana Bar-48g $1.74

This is made from whole fruits, chocolate, chia, and flax seed.  It is gluten and soy free, vegan, and non-gmo as well.  Surprisingly I have really started to like these type of bars.  They are super dense and really sweet so they satisfy my cravings for food and treats.

20160406_172117

Gem Gem Ginger Candy-35.44g $1.33

I think I may have a slight ginger allergy so I will try these with caution.  I like ginger but occasionally my mouth goes all funny when I eat something with it in it.  These feel nice and soft so I want to eat them.

20160406_172127

Bunches Of Crunches Superfood Grainola-30g $0.65

Yummy chocolate!  This is full of all sorts of ancient grains that have been covered in dark chocolate and sea salt.  The company makes only gluten free items and these are non-gmo as well.

20160406_172135

Active Sustain 2 Go Fruit Snack-42g

I couldn’t find this online anywhere but it looks so tasty!  It has cranberries, raisins, apricots, and banana chips.  I love fruit mixes like this but they are so high in calories that I am not allowed to have them all that often.

20160406_172146

Dream Water Sleep Powder-$1.00

I think this is the first time I’ve received a sleep supplement in this form.  Appropriately named Snoozeberry flavour it is drug free and promises to allow you to not feel groggy upon waking.

This is my last box from them and I’m a little sad.  I have enjoyed the snacks they send out and I think I’ll be on the lookout for another Groupon.  This month has a value of $10.66.  Even though it’s the mini, I got 8 items this month and though it’s definitely one of the lower value boxes I received from them, I’m still okay with it.  I am also happy that I can eat a lot of these things on my diet.  This is a good box if you are looking for snacks that taste good and are still on the good side of things.

20160205_214102 20160205_214246

The box this month was pretty light but opening it up showed that it was packed right to the brim.  The card is standard for this box, just the type and month.

20160205_214110

Snack Out Loud Power Puffs Salt & Vinegar-14g $0.64

These are like a cheesy poof (yes silly South Park reference, I know), but they are salt and vinegar flavoured.  They also have high levels of protein and fibre while being gluten, nut, corn, and GMO free.  I’m always looking for a new snack and these have a low calorie count so that makes them a good option for me.

20160205_214121

Paddington Bear Orange Marmalade Flavoured Banana Chips-23g $0.80

Well we just discovered the other day that the kids love banana chips so these shall become a treat for them.  Marmalade is regularly eaten here as well so that added flavour will be fine as well.  These chips are vegan, trans and sulphite free, and contain no preservatives.  The Paddington Bear part is not a selling feature as my girls don’t know who he is but I think it’s cute.

20160205_214140

Qancha Corn Snack-28g $2.50

These snacks are similar to a Corn Nut but made from an heirloom type corn grown in the Andes.  They are air toasted and then given a light coating of oil and salted.  I have had a different product that is like these and they were very good and satisfied my cravings for salty snacks so I’m very hopeful these are just as good.

20160205_214155

Snack Out Loud Crunchy Bean Snack-35g $2.00

These I have had before, though in another flavour, and they are so freaking good!  I had been very skeptical since it’s not really something I would ever think to try.  They are made from pinto beans that are roasted and salted.  Like all beans they are high in fibre and protein.  These are also vegan, gluten, nut and GMO free.

20160205_214204

Dave’s Sweet Tooth Toffee-113.4g $5.00

OMG this sounds so good!!!  It is a mix of your regular toffee items, like butter, sugar and almonds but then they added milk chocolate.  It doesn’t get much better than that.  These are surprisingly low in calories, a quarter of this bag is only 120.

20160205_214218

VoloVitamins Energy Drink Mix-5.2g $0.97

I’m always up for new water additives so getting one of these in a box is never a bad thing.  This one is Berry flavoured and has added vitamins to make your water or juice better for you.

20160205_214234

Peaceful Fruits Wild Acai + Apple Fruit Snack-7g $1.17

This is just a healthy version of a fruit roll up. These are 100% Organic, vegan and paleo, gluten and GMO free, ethical trade, and rainforest friendly.  The only things in here are acai, apple, pear, and then some lemon juice.  I should let the kids have this but I think it’ll be my bedtime snack.

I am really impressed with this box.  This month has a value of $13.08.  Even though it’s the mini, I got 8 items this month and it doesn’t make me feel like it’s a rip off.   I am also happy that I can eat a lot of these things on my diet.  This is a good box if you are looking for snacks that taste good and are still on the good side of things.

UrthBox Classic December 2015

20160101_195701 20160101_195708

The box is small but fully filled up. The card lets you know which of the box types you received and the back just lists ways to share your box.

20160101_195724

Wausome Wafers Cheese Crisps-45g

These are Colby and Swiss cheese  crackers.  Oddly they are not flavoured like cheese, they are made from cheese.  They somehow bake the cheese and it makes a cracker.  I love cheese and crackers so I can’t wait to dig into these!

20160101_195736

YumEarth Organics Gummy Worms-71g

I’m not even sure how it’s possible but these are good for you gummy worms.  They have no fat in them, are made from real fruit and this whole bag only has 164 calories.  If they are any good at all I think I will be in love.

20160101_195745

Kitch No-Grain-Ola 56.7g

This is like granola but without the grain part.  This mixture contains chocolate, cacao, coconut chips, nuts, and seeds.  The ingredient list also has Love as one of the parts so it has to be good, right?

20160101_195756

Bite Fuel Protein Granola Trail Mix 43g

This little serving has 10g of protein in it!  It is also soy free if that’s an issue for you.  I’m not a huge fan of pecans but I think with all the other good things in it I will somehow manage to eat it.

20160101_195808

Wai Lana Fruit & Nut Bar 58g

These bars are supposed to be a blend of things that are natural, nutritious, and tasty.  They also provide energy, antioxidants, fiber, and protein.  This one is banana flavoured , which might be my least liked fruit but the nuts should override the flavour.

20160101_195817

Crunchmaster Multi-Grain Crackers 14g

There are 4 crackers in this bag. What a rip off.  They are gluten, cholesterol, and saturated fat free.  They are quite light too so I’m guessing they will have a texture like a rice cracker does.  I love those so I will enjoy my four crackers and them look for more food.

This box came at a good time.  The holidays have meant that there is an abundance of food in my house that I cannot eat and when I need a snack I am left feeling frustrated.  Now I have a choice of some things that are options.  I am really impressed with this box.  Even though it’s the mini these 6 items don’t make me feel like it’s a rip off.   I am also happy that I can eat a lot of these things on my diet.  This is a good box if you are looking for snacks that taste good and are still on the good side of things.  I think the Groupon is still available so if you want to get the deal then now would be the time to sign up.

20151204_152702

Opening the lid showed me a coupon and the ends of a few packages.  The box was full to the top though.

20151204_152718

The info card tells you the month and which box you got.  The back just lists ways you can get points by sharing the box.

20151204_152734

Nourish Snacks Coconuts For You-34g

This is a blend of toasted coconut-chia granola.  It sounds really yummy and I’m always looking for snacks that are good for me and low in calories.  This has 150 calories in the package and a bonus of fibre and protein.

20151204_152742

The Good Bean Crispy Crunchy Chickpeas-70g

I don’t like chickpeas regularly but covered in cinnamon and vanilla they might be delicious.  These have crazy amounts of protein and fibre as well and I think would give that crunch that most healthy snacks are missing that those things that are bad for you bring.

20151204_152801

E&C’s Heavenly HUnks Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies-50g

There are two cookie hunks in here and looking at the ingredients they are made just like the ones in your own kitchen.  I can’t wait to have these.  Both will set me back just the right amount of calories for a snack and any hit of chocolate is worth it.

20151204_152809

Zego Crunchy Sunflower Cinnamon Bar

There is really no information on the package but the bar is flexible.  They make a few different flavours and I’m thinking they were randomly distributed.

20151204_152818

Amazing Grass Green Superfood-7g

This is a watermelon flavoured supplement.  I have not had great luck with the superfood powders.  They are so vile tasting.  I have tried them with water or in smoothies and I end up having to dump it all out.  I keep trying though.

20151204_152828

Snapz Organic Crunch Dried Apple Crisps-13g

These are basically apple chips.  They say that there is the equivalent of more than one apple in each bag and there is no salt, sugar, or preservatives in there.

20151204_152838

Primizie Thick Cut Crispbreads-43g

These are a salted almost pita like chip.  They are all natural and only have four ingredients.  They are also vegan.  I’m loving that everything in here has been crunchy and will take away that need for salt and chips that has been plaguing me lately.

20151030_133551 20151030_133622

The box is branded and since I only have the mini not huge but once open it was packed full.

20151030_133706

Smarty Pants Adult Complete Vitamins-2packs of 2-$0.20 each

I’ve had these before and they are delicious so I’ll happily take two more days worth of them.  They are non gmo and are a complete vitamin, omega 3, and vitamin D.  They are also a gummy, which is fun and makes it a little less of a chore to take.

20151030_133724

Smart Candy Vitamin Snack-14g $4.00

These seem to be another gummy vitamin, however these ones are sour gummies.  They have vitamins A, B, & C and contain no trans fats or high fructose corn syrup.  They have natural flavours and colours and will be tasty I’m sure.

20151030_133736

Nourish Snacks Almond Aloha-44g $2.00

This is a blend of dried pineapple and roasted almonds.  There is a bit of salt and oil in there too and that’s it.  This is perfectly packaged in a 200cal bag, which is exactly how big of a snack I need to have on my new diet.  It’s also a good mix of fibre and protein, which my snack is supposed to be as well.  I am going to enjoy these so much!!!!

20151030_133745

Lovely Candy Company Caramels-56g $4.99

I have received a smaller sample pack of these before in a box and they are really good.  They are an all natural caramel with no gluten or GMO’s.  These are not on my diet so I’m going to save them until I am allowed a few more calories at a time.

20151030_133754

You Love Fruit Mango Coconut Fruit Leather-28g

I can’t find a price for this but I like fruit leather so I think this will be good.  It is organic, gluten free, vegan, non gmo, and nut, soy, and dairy free as well.

20151030_133813

I Heart Keenwah Quinoa Puffs Aged Cheddar-43g $2.97

I have also received a bag of these before and shockingly I liked them.  I don’t really like regular quinoa but in a cheesy poof (some of you will get that reference) they are delicious.  This bag is also just the right size for a snack so I think I have some really good days ahead in the afternoon snack category.

20151030_133825

Poplets Toasted Corn Centers Sea Salt & Butter-77g $1.50

These look good!!  They are popcorn balls that are high heat baked and make a crunchy little snack.  They are gluten free, whole grain, non GMO, and nut free.  They are also really low in calories.  This whole bag is under 300 and it’s heavy.

I am really impressed with this box.  Even though it’s the mini these 6 items don’t make me feel like it’s a rip off.  The value is around $16.00 and that would be higher then regular price and way above my groupon price.  I am also happy that I can eat a lot of these things on my diet.  This is a good box if you are looking for snacks that taste good and are still on the good side of things.
