Uniquely You August 2016

Uniquely You is a subscription box with a difference from the normal ones.  They tailor each box to you personally so each one is different from the next.  When you sign up they have 20 categories you can choose from to base your box on.  They also send you a little quiz after to get to know you better filled with some serious and some frivolous questions.  I chose the Mystery Box category and after filling in my quiz they responded and asked if there were any of the categories I did not have any interest in. I told them that Festivals & Party Supplies, Men’s Fashion Accessories, Cats, and Smoking Accessories were not to my interest and they said nothing from those would be sent.  Boxes are $29.99 a month but go down a lot if you choose a longer term.  All pricing is in Canadian dollars and the box is based out of Alberta.

This box was really late arriving.  I had sent them an email, that was never answered, but oddly the postmark on my box is the day after……

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash-60mL $3.60

This is a travel version of this wash.  I love the tea tree line of items from the Body Shop.  They work great on my skin and I’ve used most of them over the years.  They are great for blemishes and leave my skin feeling nice.  This  was a good addition for me.

20160919_175958

Wooden Watermelon Coasters

These are cute and very summery.  Three is an odd number to include but I like them.  We don’t have a coffee table so coasters aren’t the most useful thing for us but I can always give these as a gift.

20160919_175918 20160919_180012

Off Leash Dog Treats-150g $3.99

Another clue adding to my thought that they just tossed something in the mail after I’d let them know my box hadn’t arrived yet was these treats.  They are aware I have dogs from my questionnaire and I’m not upset to get these but take the time to remove the Winner’s price tag before shipping.  It’s just a lack of professionalism.

They are back to sending out a box of whatever they had on hand.  This box started out so great and it’s been just hit and miss lately.  I haven’t received my September box yet either or a shipping notice so there might be another email going to them soon.

20160803_175137 20160803_175152

The outer box is just a plain brown box but opening it up showed that it was carefully packed.  Under the paper was my stuff, carefully and individually packed in air bubbles.  There is not an info card with this one so you don’t know what you’re going to get until you unpack it.

20160803_175226

First out were a pair of sunglasses.  I think this is the fourth pair of shades I’ve received from boxes this summer but considering how often I lose or break them, that’s not a bad thing.  These are huge and not really working for me but I’ll toss them in the car and at least have them in a pinch.

20160803_175245

This broach is stunning!  I don’t have any broaches and will probably end up waiting until fall to use this on a sweater but I love it and think it’s very beautiful.  It’s quite heavy and seems well made as well.

20160803_175304

This is another broach but it has both the pin and a clip so you don’t have to pierce delicate fabrics.  I like this one as well and think I could even wear it in my hair.  The neutral grey colour means I can get lots of matches with it.

20160803_175340

Next out of the box was an infinity scarf.  It is not quite orange but not quite peach either with white polka dots.  It is longer than some of the other ones I have and settles nicely around my neck.

20160803_175422

Last out was a chain headband.  I have a few of these but none that have anything that hangs down like this one.  It makes me feel like a princess but I’m not sure I could wear it to work or even just out.  It is really more of a festival or beach look.

This month was way better than last.  It seems like there might have been a bit of a summer/beach theme going on and everything was an accessory.  I’m glad they upped their game from last month because I’d have been so disappointed to get a jumble again.

20160622_172211

It was a really tiny box this month.  That could go both ways.  The tissue paper was really pretty though.  There has not been an info sheet or card for a while so everything in here is just a wild guess.

20160622_172244

Hmmm…..this isn’t looking so great off the hop.

20160622_172327

This belt is horrible.  Okay well maybe not horrible but very much not something I would ever wear.  Also it is too small for me.  No where in signing up did they ever get sizes so this seems  like a bit of a gamble anyways.   Into the donation pile this goes immediately.

20160622_172359

Next out of the box was a terra cotta planter and saucer and a small vial of mixed Zinnia seeds.  So random and odd but not the first time they have send plantables.  Last time though they sent dirt and everything.

20160622_172423

A block of something……this was wrapped up in bubble wrap with no label or tag or anything.  It doesn’t really have a smell to it.  After going with a hunch, it turns out it’s soap.  It doesn’t smell very nice lathered up though.  I have no clue where or who made this or if it really is soap but that’s the best I can do.

20160622_172504

Well at least there is something that I kinda like in here.  These are a seashell necklace and matching earrings.  They are a silver plated, slightly antiqued looking set.  They will be fine to wear with casual things this summer.

So I have been really happy with this box, right up to now.  This feels like they forgot they were sending out boxes this month and just tossed a bunch of things they had laying around in.  They usually have a bit of a theme and that wasn’t there and the stuff wasn’t marked in any way.  I’m hoping they go back to the standard they have been at next month.

20160506_130617 20160506_130630

I like that they take care with the packaging.  It’s always well packed so nothing shifts or breaks.  They also personalize they package inside with a label letting you know it’s just for you.  There was no letter this month so I’m flying a little more blind than normal.

20160506_130706

Le Spa Bleu Bath Sponge-$2.32

This is very squishy and I can tell that a tiny bit of soap will lather like crazy.  I normally use one of those puffs but I will gladly give this a go.

20160506_130729

Pure Epsom Salts-$2.99

I’m sensing a theme here.  Looks like a long soak in the tub is in my future.  I regularly use bath salts but haven’t gone for the plain epsom salts in a while.  I think I may have to hide these from the Hubby who will want them for after hockey or a long day doing yardwork.

20160506_130758

La Florentina Salsedine Soap 3pk-$19.99

Ohhhh….I like pretty soaps.  This is a very nice set.  It is Sea Breeze scented and like most of these milled soaps it is very strong.  I don’t mind it though and while I tend to keep these soaps instead of using them, one day there will be a time for them.

20160506_130820

DMC Color Variation Skein 4010-$1.62

I think it’s nice that they include something like this in the box.  I can’t remember if I told them in my survey that I enjoy needlework or not but they keep sending a little something to satisfy that.  This is a very cool skein of thread.  It varies between light grey to light blue to a darker grey.

I am so happy I found this box.  The fact that they keep surprising me completely is great.  I never have any idea what I’ll be getting and it is never anything I get in any other box. This box is worth $26.92 and once again they have put together a complete theme.  I can’t wait to see what other boxes will bring because I know literally have zero idea of what to expect.

20160408_131432

The box was very different shaped this month from last.  Once again I had no clue what would be inside but I was looking forward to peeking under that tissue paper!

20160408_131458

There is not an info card, which considering that each box is personalized, is not a surprise.   They do include a letter that lists your items and is addressed to you(me) and signed by the owners.

20160408_131509

English Tea Shop Organic Tea Bags-$9.36

I love tea so this is great.  They sent me White Tea, Blueberry & Elderflower flavour and it smells really nice.  I usually have at least one cup of tea a day and these are a perfect addition to my tea rotation.

20160408_131617 20160408_131753

Blue Chintz Fine CHina Tea Cup & Saucer-$10.00 Approx.

How fantastic is this???  First I get the tea and now I get the cup and saucer to drink it from.  For the amount of tea I do drink I don’t actually have a tea cup, I just use a regular mug.  This is microwave and dishwasher safe and so pretty.  They had it well wrapped up in bubble wrap and it made it here in one piece.

20160408_131533

Macarons de Pauline-3pk $4.13

Is it odd that I’ve never had one of these?  This pack includes chocolate, pistachio and strawberry flavours.  They suggest to have them with your tea but that probably won’t happen.  They look almost too pretty to eat.

20160408_131546

Kreinik Metallics Ombre Thread-$2.38

According to the letter, this was included to add to my needlework collection…..how did they know I have one?????  Creepy.  Anyways, this is beautiful and can be used for crochet, cross stitch, and needlepoint.  While it may not go with the rest of the items in the box, it is something I like and will use.

I am so happy I found this box.  My second one is like nothing else I’ve ever received or anything like the first one, and while nothing in it is specific to answers I gave it is still a mix of things that I will enjoy.  This box is worth $25.87 and it’s so well put together!  I can’t wait to see what other boxes will bring because I know literally have zero idea of what to expect.

20160316_170402

Opening the box showed that it was packed with care.  There is also a sticker on top the shows it’s mine.

20160316_170426

There was a personalized letter that said thank you and gave details of what I would find in the box.  It also had instructions and usage hints for a few of the items.

20160316_170451

Inside all that paper was my treasures.  I couldn’t see anything specifically from this look but it was exciting!

20160316_170504

DMC Magnetic Needle Case-$7.25

I’m thinking this would fall into the Arts & Crafts theme.  This is so cool actually.  I just have my needles in a pin cushion and the girls occasionally get hold of it and give me seven heart attacks as I rush to save them from playing with sharp pointy objects.  It has a magnet inside so all your pins stay safe and don’t go flying through the air when you open it.

20160316_170706

Hand Painted Mason Jar-???

This must go in Home Accents.  I don’t know how to value this one.  The jar is worth $2.12 but someone took the time to paint the inside and that adds to it.  They suggest filling this with flower or makeup brushes but it could hold anything you want.  They do mention not to place water directly in it.I would never pick this up myself, even though oddly it’s not the first one of these I own.  It’s cute in that rustic way and I will find something to fill it with.

20160316_170547

Pure Dead Sea Body Butter in Pomegranate-$25.90

This one must fit the Spa theme.  This is a very heavy jar of lotion and I was really surprised at how light this lotion was.  It smells great and it’s not overpowering.  It soaked in well and while it did leave a slightly greasy feeling, that is pretty normal for a body butter.  It says it’s full of antioxidants and will help protect and moisturise your skin.  This will last a long time but will be so nice to use after a bath.

20160316_170615 20160316_170630

Handmade Mini Vase, Soil, Glass Stones, and GMO Free Radish Seeds-???

This one has an obvious theme home, GMO Free Gardening.  This is another one that can’t be valued but I love it.  You place the stones in the base of the vase, add the soil and seeds and sprout your radishes!  There is no way I’d ever have expected to get something to grow in a box.  So cool.

I am so happy I found this box.  My first one is like nothing else I’ve ever received and while nothing in it is specific to answers I gave it is still a mix of things that I will enjoy.  For the stuff I can value, this box is worth $35.27, which is higher than what I paid and does not include the intrinsic value of the objects.  I can’t wait to see what other boxes will bring because I know literally have zero idea of what to expect.
