The Kit Beauty Desk August Edition 2018

The Kit is a box of goodies put together by Topbox.  They are a Canadian company and these are an extension of the monthly Topbox subscription but without the commitment.  You can go to their website and find an assortment of boxes that cover makeup and skincare items.  They usually put out one or two boxes a month and shipping is free in Canada  Boxes are normally $26.00 for The Kit Beauty desk, $49.00 for The Kit Beauty Box, which is much larger and contains more items, or occasionally they have a mystery box for $12.00.  This is a review of the August Beauty Desk Box.

20180815_181401

The Kit comes in a tube.  They mail it in a regular box so it doesn’t arrive damaged.  The whole thing is recyclable so that is great.  I haven’t found any other use for the tube but if you’re crafty you could repurpose it, as it’s very sturdy.

20180815_181432

Most of the time there is an info card in the Beauty Desk version.  This month has ten items included.

20180815_181719

AveryBeauty Shea Butter Socks

I have never used anything like this before.  These are a pair of socks that you slide on your feet and let them sit for 20 minutes  After that your feet should come out moisturized and less rough then you started with.  I rarely have 20 minutes where I don’t need to get up and walk somewhere but my feet can definitely use these after rocking sandals all Summer.

20180815_181607

Marc Anthony Hydrating Coconut Oil and Shea Butter

This is an oil treatment for your hair.  It is supposed to make your hair softer and smoother while nourishing it.  It smells great and after a while of dying my hair the ends need this!

20180815_181710

Pure Cosmetics Silicone Pro Beauty Blender

I keep getting these in beauty boxes and I have yet to use one.  I like my original pink beauty blender and haven’t felt the need to change to one of these.  I find the texture very odd.  I will give them a go once I destroy the one I’m using now.

20180815_181523 (1)

Clinique High Impact Mascara

Thank goodness for this!  I’m running low on mascara in my stash and this will be a great addition to it.  This is a volumizing mascara and will add length and definition to your lashes.

20180815_181533

Joico Blonde Life Brilliant Glow Oil

I’ve never heard of something like this but it is a brightening oil that adds shine and softness.  I’m not sure how it differs from a regular hair oil.  It smells nice and does add a shimmer to the part of my hair I put it on to try.

20180815_181554

Boo Bamboo SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen Spray

This spray is water and sweat resistant, fast absorbing, and non-whitening when you spray it on.  It also has UVA and UVB protection, which is what you should be getting from a sunscreen.  It is enriched with bamboo extract.

20180815_181732

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant

Thee boxes are where I get any high-end facial products I can’t afford normally.  This is one of those items.  You can basically use this any time and anywhere on your body.  It’s a face cream, a hand cream, can add shine, or can shape your brows.  It is gel-like in texture and smells horrible lol.

20180815_181631

Nena Clay Mask

This mask is good for all skin types and also exfoliates as it works  It has minerals and rare earth elements that help to protect against the effects of pollution on your skin, while it detoxifies and hydrates.

20180815_181619

Barefoot Venus Shower Gel

I’ve had this item before and this is not a scent I really enjoy.  It is a Green Tea Body Wash in Gingerly.  It does have lots of good things going for it though.  It has no parabens, mineral oils or synthetic colours.  It does lather up really nicely too.  I just have an issue with the smell.

20180815_181500

Morgan Tailor Professional Nail Laquer in Better In Leather

This is a black polish with silver sparkles in it.  I think it’s a good colour for Fall.  I just had acrylic nails put on so I don’t need any polish right now but maybe my toes could use a touch up in this.  I’m not a fan really of getting polish in boxes but since you can see what is in these boxes before you buy I can’t really complain.

These boxes are great to get.  They include items that are normally available in salons only plus higher end face products.  They are a good mix of hair, face, and makeup items.  You can also see everything you are going to be getting each time before you order.  These are not a subscription box but a one-off that lasts only for a while.

Topbox June 2016

Topbox is a Canadian beauty subscription that ships you 4 samples every month.  The shipping is free, which is nice, but there is tax based upon your province.  This still makes it one of the cheapest boxes out there at $12 per month.  Topbox normally comes is a cardboard container but you can chose to receive your products in a reusable organza bag for even less waste, which is my choice.  They also offer special boxes that you can put on your wish list and you may get them or you’ll get the regular box.  I had stopped getting this one for a while because I felt they were sending out too many of the same type of samples.  I am giving them a try again because I now get almost no makeup boxes anymore and since this one is Canadian and inexpensive it let’s me dabble with a small commitment.

20160615_204750

This sub ships in a bright purple bubble mailer.  You always know when you get this one each month.

20160615_204824 20160615_204828

You can choose to have you items sent in a cardboard tube or in this organza bag.  I always choose the bag because I don’t need one more thing to recycle.

20160615_204857 20160615_204904

They used to send your items in the info card but have decided to just email you with you list.  Now the card is just advertising and gives you a few discount codes on items.

20160615_204923 20160615_204918

O.R.G Skincare Mineral Peel Face with Brightening Agents-5mL $4.32

Well I got this item in my LuxeBox and haven’t tried it yet but you spray it on and leave it to work for a few seconds. You then scrub gently with a washcloth and rinse.  It is all natural and removes dirt and environmental things that can end up on your skin.  It is supposed to leave you looking brighter and more radiant.

20160615_204933

Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo-21.3g $3.96

I like dry shampoos and I’m pretty sure I’ve used this one before.  They work really well for those days I just can’t find the time or the energy to shower, since it never gets to be alone.  This one has a bonus of smelling really nice so it makes me happy.

20160615_204956

pur~lisse Blue Lotus + White Tea Sheet Mask-$8.00

This sheet mask is moisturizing, nourishing, and renewing.  I am getting quite the stash of masks but the joy I get from freaking out my husband and making my girls giggle overrides that small issue.

20160615_204945

Harvey Prince Organics Sincerely Body Cream-15mL $1.02

This is another double from my LuxeBox but I think this heavily floral scented lotion is nice so I’m not all that upset.  Everything I’ve ever used from Harvey Prince has been floral and that is very much my kinda scent.  This absorbs super quick and doesn’t leave you greasy at all.

This month’s box has a value of $50.27. Holy Crap!!  I like the items I got this time and am happy with all of them. There is the one duplicate item but since it’s something I use and like it’s okay.  The good thing is that since they only do month to month subscriptions I can cancel this without any hassle if it gets really repetitive.  As I mentioned above I like that it’s a Canadian box and that it’s really reasonably priced but it is not always varied.   If you are interested in getting your own Topbox send me a message and I can give you a link or you can visit them here.

20160518_173236 20160518_173305

I always choose to not get the outer box and so my package comes in a purple mailer bag and an organza bag inside that.

20160518_173323_001 20160518_173333

On one side of the info card is advertizing for their latest special one off box.  The back reveals what items are in the bag this month, where to buy them if you want more, and the prices.

20160518_173404

Novex Brazilian Keratin Deep Conditioning Hair Mask-100g $2.17

This is not the first time I’ve received this item but since I really like it, I’m okay with the repeat.  This mask makes a noticeable difference for me.  You can either leave it on for 15 minutes for the full effect or use it like a conditioner and rinse after 3 minutes.  It smells great and leaves my hair smooth and in better shape then before.

20160518_173434 20160518_173345

Bliss fabgirl Leave It To Cleavage-15mL $8.55

This jar is filled with a cream that is made just for your boobs!  It recognizes that the skin there is very delicate and requires a little more care than we might normally give it.  After 4 years of my own being used as on demand feeding stations they probably need a bit of care.

20160518_173417

Pur-Lisse BB Tinted Moist Cream SPF30-10mL $12.55

I love tinted BB creams like this because there are some days where I can’t be bothered to do the whole routine and this makes it all in one.  The colour they sent is perfect for my skin tone and it left me looking neat.  This may become one of those ones that I have to buy after using.

20160518_173507

Bioderma Sebium AKN Anti-Aging Resurfacing Purifying Care-30mL $27.00

This tube promises to make everything to do with your skin better.  It smoothes wrinkles, corrects blemishes, adds radiance, and prevents aging.  The packaging say it is the new generation of the product so I’m guessing they’ve made some improvements.

This month’s box has a value of $5027. Holy Crap!!  I like the items I got this time and am happy with all of them. There is the one dupicalte item but since it’s something I use and like it’s okay.

20160317_173249

In honour of Earth Day all subscribers got their orders in the organza bag instead of having the choice to get the bag or the tube.

20160317_173415

Jelly Pong Pong Lychee Gel Softening Shower & Bath Gel-$15.95 Full Size

So once again this is a duplicate from Luxe Box.  It smells really nice though and lathers great.  I still feel that this is the tiniest full size ever but this brand has been good to me and I’m happy to get it.

20160317_173436

MaskerAide All Eyes On Me Hydrating Eye Gel Patches-$6.25

These eye patches are supposed to brighten, hydrate, and firm the undereye area.  I’m glad to see that this set of eye patches are not expired, like a set they had sent out previously.  You can stick these in the freezer to get extra cooling  effect.

20160317_173503

Nova Scotia Fisherman Extreme Skin Care Nova Scotia Fisherman Fisher-Mint-$4.95

This is another company I’m glad to have discovered through boxes.  This lip balm is super minty and tingly on your lips.  The ingredients are natural and they also included a code to get a free balm in one of the other flavours available if you place an order with them.

20160317_173352

Teeez Trend Cosmetics La Isla Chique Brushes-$5.67

It seems like there might have been an assortment of brushes sent out and I received the Angled Brush.  It is very soft and can be used for eyes or brows.  I have got one other of their brushes and they don’t shed or anything like that.

This month’s box has a value of $32.82.  Only one double this time so yay!!! I like the items I got this time and am happy with all of them.

Topbox February 2016

Topbox is a Canadian beauty subscription that ships you 4 samples every month.  The shipping is free, which is nice, but there is tax based upon your province.  This still makes it one of the cheapest boxes out there at $12 per month.  Topbox normally comes is a cardboard container but you can chose to receive your products in a reusable organza bag for even less waste, which is my choice.  They also offer special boxes that you can put on your wish list and you may get them or you’ll get the regular box.  I had stopped getting this one for a while because I felt they were sending out too many of the same type of samples.  I am giving them a try again because I now get almost no makeup boxes anymore and since this one is Canadian and inexpensive we’ll see how it goes this time.

20160216_204518

A very nice pink bag this time.  I just have no use for the tube it would come it and while I don’t have much use for these either I give them to my mom and she uses them for something.

20160216_204538

The info card lets you know what you are receiving this month, where you can buy it, and what it will cost you to purchase it again.  On the back this monthis an advertisement for one of the companies with a discount code.

20160216_204622

POP Beauty Kajal Pen in Inky Purple-$10.00 Full Size

I’ve received a different colour of this a while ago from Glossybox and loved it.  This one is a lot more black than purple but I’m okay with that.  I rarely use the smudger on the other end but it is nice to have one around.

20160216_204701

Morgan Taylor Professional Nail Lacquer in Later Alligator-$15.83 Full Size

OOHHHH….I don’t have any green nail polish!  This is such a fun colour and I love it.  The little info included on this says it is inspired by pearls and metallics but while it is glossy it is not shimmery in any way at all.  I think it’s actually better that way, it would look cheap if it had glitter in it.

20160216_204716

Nova Scotia Fisherman Extreme Skin Care Sea Salt Soap-28g $1.44

This is a nice sized soap sample.  This soap is available at some grocer stores as well as their own site online.  This does smell a little manly for my taste but I think my Hubby will enjoy it.

20160216_204736

Smashbox Photo Finish Classic Primer-7.1mL $10.41

This is a repeat item for me but from a different box.  I love primers and use them everyday.  Anytime I get another one I rejoice because that means it is that much longer before I have to buy one on my own.

This month’s box has a value of $37.68.  This is why I had stopped getting this box last time.  I was getting so many doubles and similar items from month to month that I was annoyed. This month at least the doubles are things that I like and use.  They also have a tendency to send out nail polish really often. The only good thing is that since they only do month to month subscriptions I can cancel this without any hassle if it keeps up.  As I mentioned above I like that it’s a Canadian box and that it’s really reasonably priced but it is not always varied.   If you are interested in getting your own Topbox send me a message and I can give you a link or you can visit them here.

Topbox January 2016

20160119_201552 20160119_201612

This month they went for a grey bag, nice to see it change up.  The back of that card shows the four items you receive, a bit about them, where you can buy them, and what a full size version will cost you.

20160119_201639

Eyeko Black Magic Mascara-4mL $13.65

This is why I have issues with this subscription…….this is the third time I have received this mascara.  Now that I’m over the disappointment of a repeat item, I do like this mascara.  I do not need anymore mascara right now but it is a curling one and black, which kind of checks all the boxes I look for in a mascara.

20160119_201724

L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream-10mL $2.00

I love this brand and only ever have it when it comes in one of my boxes so this makes up for the mascara above.  This is just their basic hand cream and it is slightly scented.  In fact it almost smells a bit like baby powder.  It is 20% shea butter and made for dry skin.  Saskatchewan in January equals dry skin so yay!!!

20160119_201713 20160119_201627

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer For Large Pore & Fine Lines-5mL $7.17

Okay longest product title ever.  I love primer, it’s become something I can’t live without so that’s good.  They also included a card letting you know you can get a free sample of the foundation to match from Sephora right now.  This primer has just a hint of a tint, which is good too.  Love it!

20160119_201702

Shu Uemura POREraser Underbase Mousse-20g $18.40

This is also a kinda primer item.  It really is a mousse and it’s going to take me a few tries to figure it out since it blobbed out on me.  It does give an illusion of porelessness(which I don’t believe is a word but is working for me) and evened out some skin tone issues too.

This month’s box has a value of $41.22.  This is why I had stopped getting this box last time.  I was getting so many doubles and similar items from month to month that I was annoyed.

Topbox December 2015

20151215_185445

I don’t go for the box option since it just means more things for me to recycle.  I give the bags to my mom after I empty them because I don’t use those again either.  The bag colour does change up all the time.

20151215_185518

The info card was tucked in there and it tells you what items you are getting and price and where to buy them.

20151215_185632

Fruits & Passions Cucina Regenerating Hand Cream Coriander And Olive Tree-40mL $3.33

It has been a few years since I’ve used a Cucina hand cream and I forgot how great they smell.  They also work really well and I am very happy to find this in my bag! Way to go Topbox!

20151215_185620

SeaRx Birch Sap Moisturizing Lotion x 2

And we’re back to things that are the same.  To be fair these only look exactly like the product from last month and are from the same company.  These ones are moisturizers while last month was a scrub.  This lotion is for your whole body not just your face and while I’m sure it’s good it’s not as great as the one above.

20151215_185604

Hask Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment-50g $1.77

Since Luxe Box was taken over by Topbox there has been a bit of doubling up if you get both and this is one of those items.  I’ll just use my description from that box here now..This is a Monoi Coconut Oil conditioner that moisturizes and revitalizes all hair types.  You work it into damp hair and leave it on for 10 minutes to have it work for you.  I always like to use these but having a long enough shower to use them is a bit of a struggle since I rarely shower without two small humans hanging out in there too.

20151215_185551

Cuccio Nail Lacquer in Gazing In Genoa-13mL $4.21

And here’s another one that was in the Winter Luxe Box as well.  Same colour and everything.  I did like this polish but I don’t need two.  I’ll never use them both up.

This months box has a value of $9.31 plus the lotions.  This is why I had stopped getting this box last time.  I was getting so many doubles and similar items from month to month that I was annoyed.  The only good thing is that since they only do month to month subscriptions I can cancel this without any hassle if it keeps up.  As I mentioned above I like that it’s a Canadian box and that it’s really reasonably priced but it is not always varied.  I have received nail polish in all but two of them and there is heavy promotion for London Drugs which I never shop at.  If you are interested in getting your own Topbox send me a message and I can give you a link or you can visit them here.

Topbox November 2015

20151127_095502

This is the bag that arrives inside the mailer bag.  I have no real use for these either but it’s better then getting a box.

20151127_095514 20151127_095523

There is an info card in there.  The front lets you know they have some one time boxes out now.  These have always been good value and I pick them up once in a while if the strike my fancy.   The back has your products, retail pricing, and where you can buy them if you want more.

20151127_095643

So Susan Rose Quartet Lip & Cheek Cream-$12.00 Full Size

Not really off to a great start with this one.  I received this exact product in a box in September.  That is of course the downfall of getting multiple boxes.  I would be happy if this was something I really loved but since this is just okay to me, it’s a bit blah.  I also don’t feel you can really use any of these colours on your cheeks so I think it’s misleading.  Beyond that they do give good lip coverage and there is nothing wrong with it.

20151127_095728

SeaRx Micro-Dermabrasion Face & Body Scrub x 2

This has just the slightest amount of grit in it providing the micro-dermabrasion part.  You just need to rub it in to your face for 2 minutes and then rinse it off to get the benefits.  There is no size on these tubes so I can’t get a price for you but each of these should last a week using their dime sized suggestion.

20151127_095715

Revlon Professional Style Masters Modular Hairspray-75mL $3.00

This is a medium  hold hairspray.  It’s only available in salons and is of course aerosol.  I have started to really like these smaller bottles of hairspray since they fit into my bag and now that I am not hauling a crapload of stuff for babies in there I can get back to carrying my stuff.

20151127_095739

The Face Shop Character Mask-$3.00

Okay so I had never heard of The Face Shop before finding their advent calendar and now I’ve got a mask from them in the bag!  This is a brightening mask and I think it’s great that they just put a pattern on them instead of plain paper.  So fun and doesn’t affect the ability to do it’s job at all.

This months box has a value of $18.00 plus the scrubs.  I like everything in the box and will use it all.  I love the mask and the hairspray and while the lip quad is a repeat for me it’s still okay.

Topbox April 2015

Topbox is a Canadian beauty subscription that ships you 4 samples every month.  The shipping is free, which is nice, but there is tax based upon your province.  This still makes it one of the cheapest boxes out there at $12 per month.  Topbox normally comes is a cardboard container but you can chose to receive your products in a reusable organza bag for even less waste, which is my choice.  They also offer special boxes that you can put on your wish list and you may get them or you’ll get the regular box. Lately they seem to be shipping out earlier in the month then they used to which is nice, since a lot of my boxes come in the last half.

20150415_175856

For Earth Day there was no choice this month, everyone got the bag option.  There was also a bonus item in the outer envelope. Yay!

20150415_175943 20150415_175952

The info card has their current special box advertised on the back.  The other side is your items and where you can purchase them.

20150415_180451

LA Splash Diamond Lipgloss in Pink Revolution-$8.98 Full Size

I was sure this was going to be a super bright unwearable colour.  I was wrong!  It goes on this really nice deep pink that I like alot.  It has tons of micro shimmer in it, hence the diamond part, but it still doesn’t look cheap.  It smells great too and gives a slight tingle as you’re wearing it.

20150415_180043

Caudalie Vinosource SOS Thirst Quenching Serum-10mL $17.33

This serum is used under your regular moisturiser.  It promises to restore your skins moisture balance and leave your skin soft and supple.  It has a very slight smell and absorbed in really quick.  I’ll definitely use it up and hope for the best.

20150415_180310

Essie Mini Nail Lacquer in Blossom Dandy-5mL $3.70

This is such a cute spring colour!  I like the mini bottle too since I usually end up tossing them because they get old.  This is a pastel mint green colour and I think it’ll look great on my toes.

NeoStrata Moisture Infusion Hydrating Cream-20mL $12.00

It seems odd to me that they included two moisture boosting products in one bag.  I guess since this one is a cream not a serum they are different.  This one also is supposed to make your skin softer, which in turn will make it more comfortable and supple.  It soaked in really fast and was not greasy feeling at all.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Sunscreen Lotion-59mL $4.75

This was the bonus item.  It is an SPF 30 sunscreen.  It has that traditional Hawaiian Tropic coconut smell that makes you think of summer.  It differs from regular sunscreen because it has hydrating ribbons.  They also included a $2.00 coupon on your next purchase of any Hawaiian Tropic product.

This months box has a value of $46.76 which is great.  I like everything in the box and will use it all.  This will be my last Topbox.  I like that it’s a Canadian box and that it’s really reasonably priced but it is not always varied.  I have received nail polish in all but two of them and there is heavy promotion for London Drugs which I never shop at.  If you are interested in getting your own Topbox send me a message and I can give you a link or you can visit them here.

Topbox March 2015

I actually liked a few of the specialty options this months so I put in a yes when they sent out the email requests.  None of the boxes are guarantied beyond the standard box but I seem to have got one of the special ones.

I have to confess that I don’t remember what the options were but I seem to have picked  London Drugs available products.  This is also the first time I’ve received the tube packaging since I normally opt for just a bag.  Everything fits pretty goo in there though.

The info card is the same as normal except it mentions with every item that you can get them at London Drugs.

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Future Powered by Ceramide Caplet Serum-5mL $12.00

I have received Elizabeth Arden products from Topbox before, but since I would never spend that kind of money on facial care I never have a complaint about it.  It’s a bit hard to tell from the picture but there are little white balls of goodness suspended n the liquid.  You apply this product between cleansing and moisturizing and it will help rejuvenate your skin, reduce fine wrinkles, and make you appear stress free.  If it can really do that last one it might be worth the $72 full size price tag.

Reversa Cleansing Micellar Solution-30mL $2.30

This cleanser is a rinse free makeup remover.  This one is good for sensitive skin as well.  I like the idea of this product but can’t help but think the makeup I am removing is just being relocated around my face.  I’ll still give it a go and hope for the best.

NYX Professional Makeup Slide On Pencil in Golden Bronze-$9.99 Full Size

I might be in the minority here but I like a metallic eyeliner.  I usually have a neutral eyeshadow and a crazy liner on so this is perfect.  It is a soft pencil and really does just slide on.  I gave it the rub test and it barely smeared as well so I like this one.

StriVectin-AR Advanced Retinol Night Treatment-7mL $16.80

This night cream is supposed to improve the visible sighs of aging.  It is a complex of Niacin and Retinol which is supposed to make the Retinol less harsh then it can be.  It smells like a serious night cream so I’m sure it will work just as well as anything else I’ve tried up to this point.

This months box has a value of $41.09 which is great.  I like everything in the box and will use it all.  This is still a box I’m undecided about keeping but it is one of the few that is Canadian so I don’t have to pay the exchange rate, making it very reasonable.  The last few have been more varied and contained products I was happy with so I think it’ll get yet another month.  If you are interested in getting your own Topbox send me a message and I can give you a link or you can visit them here.
