Loves It Newfoundland Box July 2017

Loves It is a box of Newfoundland sourced, hand crafted, home made items.  They are proudly sending out boxes of items they purchase from those local suppliers so that they can show off the greatness of their artists, crafters, and businesses.  They offer both a Standard or a Premium box and monthly or quarterly subscriptions.  Boxes start at $35.00 a month but do go down with longer plans.  There will be 4-7 items per box and they say they will range in value from $40-$75.  I am always on the lookout for Canadian boxes and so while I’m not from Newfoundland nor have I ever been there I was still interested in this box.

I think this box is no longer planning to ship out anything and that they sent all of their subscriber’s extra boxes to reduce any remaining stock.  This is all I can think of for why I’ve received so many extra boxes after my plan ended.  The website simply says they are not accepting any new orders at this time.

Mirabella Tea Company Fogo Island Fog Black Tea

This is a loose-leaf tea blend that seems to be a type of London Fog taste.  I have a bit of a glut of tea at the moment but Fall and Winter are coming so maybe I’ll be having more that one cup a day.  My co-worker also bought an electric kettle for their office so I can have tea at work whenever I want as well.

Newfoundland House Bottle Stopper

There was not a single bit of wording on this to let me know who made this or where it came from.  It is handpainted and very light so I’m not sure what the top is made of.  This will become a well used and enjoyed piece of art.

St.John’s Soap Works Iceberg Bath Bomb

I’m not sure what an iceberg smells like but I hope these will be fantastic.  I love bath bombs and I don’t think you can ever have too many of them in line for use.  So far I’ve managed to keep the joy of them away from the girls but I don’t know how much longer that will hold out for.

East Coast Glow Port Rexton Brewing Beer Soap

This soap is made with iceberg water, beer, and a mix of oils.  It doesn’t smell like beer, which is probably a good thing 🙂  I enjoy the non-commercially produced soaps but I think this one might go to the Hubby as he may appreciate the beer part of it more than I do.

Newfoundland Chocolate Company Extra Smooth Milk Chocolate Bar

This company has the best wrappers for their chocolate ever!  This one is of the row houses that are an iconic part of Newfoundland.  I never say no to more chocolate.

20170714_185415

Purity Bull’s Eyes

This is a type of candy I have never seen before.  They seem to be mostly sugar and molasses…..so that’s just sugar then.  I haven’t tried them yet but I think they can be saved until Xmas and be tossed into a festive dish for everyone to enjoy.

20170729_144113

Fog Off Clothing Co. Wristband

This is an item that I’ve received before and it’s just a piece of advertising for a company that seems to do great deeds for those less fortunate.  This will go straight to the girls to play with.

Hello From Newfoundland Card by Angela Foss

This is also a duplicate but these cards are so beautiful that I do not mind at all.

20170729_144025

Seal Skin Necklace

I understand that many people would be horrified to receive this but I am not one of them.  I have no issues with fur or hunting, provided it is done humanely.  This is created by an Inuit person in Labrador and I like it.  I have never seen seal skin before in the flesh :~ It’s on a black string necklace.

There was actually one more item in the box that I missed until I went to recycle the boxes and papers.  It was wrapped up in the same tissue paper as it was laying on and I thought it was padding!  It is a little ceramic tumbler that says Skeet.  It is about the size of a shot glass but I’m not sure if that is what it is supposed to be or not.  I think I’ll use it for toothpicks!

I thought last month (and the month before, and the month before)were my last boxes from Loves It but I got these two.  As normal, I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. Value is always hard for this box as I don’t always know where things are from. If you want to check them out click here to go to their site, though it was closed at the time of posting.

Loves It Newfoundland Box April 2017

Hey! They switched up the box for this month.  Now I don’t have to worry about cutting into anything when opening up the box.  Once I got in I could see that things were a little stuffed to one side.

20170524_191253

Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Biscuit-$1.00

This cookie bar thing looks like it’ll be delicious.  It has layers of wafers and chocolate and caramel.  According to the internet, they sell millions of these every week.  I have never heard or seen them before but they appear to be Scottish and maybe only available in the Atlantic provinces.

Good On Ya All Natural Skin Care Atlantic Kelp Hydrating Mask & Mint Lip Balm-$5.00 Each

This company is a mom and daughter who needed a change from the standard items in the market right now.  The mask is a powder that needs to be mixed with water.  It removes dead skin cells, draws out toxins, and moisturizes as you use it.  This vial appears to be enough for two uses.  The lip balm is a mix of kinds of butters and oils that will keep your lips soft.

Angela Foss Gallery Notecard-$?

This is a very beautiful notecard.  It comes with an envelope and I love the scene it portrays.  I always need note cards because of writing to my pen pals and this one will be appreciated I’m sure.

20170524_191415

There is no information on this print at all.  There is a signature on the bottom, Tyrone something.  It has come already in a frame/stand and depicts an elk in the northern lights in Winter.  It is a stunning image and I will display it proudly.

20170524_191424

Newfoundland Seasonings Steak, Burger, & Caesar Spice-$7.00

This appears to cover every possible version of what I could want.  It has no gluten, MSG, additives, or preservatives.  We have had many other spices from this brand and they have all been wonderful.  I don’t drink caesars so I’ll never know if it makes a good one but it will grace my next steak.

I thought last month (and the month before)were my last boxes from Loves It but I got this one.  As normal, I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. Value is always hard for this box as I don’t always know where things are from. Loves It Newfoundland Box December 2016

I didn’t get my normal warning on the box to not cut down, but there was a sticker to not open until December 25.  I was still careful when I opened it and lucky I did as there was a print on the top!

Boatload of Colour Special Edition Art Reproduction by Brenda Rowe

Some of the artwork I’ve received from this box has been lovely and this is no exception.  It is on that kinda foamy mat so it is about a quarter inch thick. This is a duplicate item I received in the September box as well.

20161220_193705

Home Sticker

I like this but as it would be a total lie for me to use it will be going to my Hubby to give to one of his coworkers who is an actual Newfie. This is also a duplicate from October.

20161220_193713

Pure Savoury-$3.88

Hey look…..something I haven’t received before.  This is a good sized package of Savoury.  This is not a herb I use a lot of but I know that I’ve had a few recipes ask for it so it’s good to have on hand.

Indigena Sea Goddess Sea Weed Nourishing Skin Bar-$?

A full size bar of this sells for $20 but I don’t know how big that is compared to how big this one is.  This bar is made to exfoliate and provide hydration.  I’ve used sea weed in other things but never a soap so I’m looking forward to giving it a go. This is a duplicate from August.

20161220_193741

Blueberry Candle-$6.00

Well this is sort of a duplicate.  Twice before I’ve received candles from this company but this time at least it’s another scent.  These candles burn well and I like having them so this one is a small complaint.

20161220_193755

Mummers Round The Bend Porcelain Ornament-$15.00

This is an ornament based on a picture done by Brenda Rowe.  It is beautiful and the one think I can say is that I’m getting a great collection of Canadian artists work.  This is going up on the tree in a high spot the girls can’t get to.

20161220_193904

Crooked As Sin Chocolate Bar-$5.00

I have got a few items from this chocolate company and they do not disappoint.  This is a milk chocolate with caramel and sea salt bar.  The wrapper is the provincial flag and this is one of many regional sayings.  I love Newfies. This is a duplicate in brand and item but with a different wrapper.

20161220_193921

Mitten Ornament by RALI-$?

I can’t imagine knitting something so tiny!  My skills are no where near this level.  These are on the tree and look great on there.  Love them.

This was my tenth box from Loves It and as normal, I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. Value is always hard for this box as I don’t always know where things are from. Five of the items are duplicates and that is just not acceptable.  I’ve emailed them about it before with no response.  I guess this is a box you should only get for a few months.   If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.

Loves It Newfoundland Box November 2016

I was happy to see the warning was back on the box this month.  Opening it up, there was no print on top but a toque I’d have been pissed to cut up.

20161122_161830

Froze Ta Det Toque by Figgyduff Dory-$24.00

This toque is sold out on the website but I’m happy to have received one. I don’t speak Newfie but I can understand most of it and this one is rather self explanatory.  I love that they included the one with a pom pom as there is a plain option as well.  Good start to the box.

20161122_161840

No Place Like Home Soap-$7.00

This is a partridgeberry and bakeapple soap.  I have no clue what either of those are but it smells amazing.  It is a shea butter soap and I will be putting this at the top of my to use pile. This is actually a duplicate from last months box for me.  It’s not the first time they’ve done that and I’ve emailed them about it, with no response.  It’s a good thing I like this soap.

20161122_161923

Indigena Smooth Lip Balm-$4.99

This balm feels so nice!  It is made with Canadian beeswax and sweet orange oil.  I seem to be getting less balms lately so I like to see new ones and Canadian ones at that.  This is also a duplicate from last month.  It is awesome though and makes my lips super soft.

20161122_161944

Tuck’s Bee Better Honey-56g $?

This farm doesn’t have a website so I can’t find a value on this jar of honey.  It is a beautiful dark amber and will make my tea so much better!  It is unpasteurized and delicious I’m sure.

20161122_162003

June’s Jams & Jellies Blueberry Jam-$4.00

I love when this box sends me food!  The last jam I got from them is almost gone and as I never think to buy blueberry jam I’m excited to open this one.  I love that this is not a giant corporation pumping it out either.  Someone maybe making this in a kitchen or on a small scale production and that makes it taste better in my opinion.

This was my ninth box from Loves It and as normal, I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. Value is always hard for this box as I don’t always know where things are from, but this one I was able to find most of it, giving me a value of $39.99 plus the honey. I am sad that two of the items are repeats from the month before.  At least if they’d skipped a couple it would be better.   If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.

Loves It Newfoundland Subscription Box March 2016

20160329_175433

It shipped in a plain box with a sticker letting me know what it was and a note to not cut down through the tape.

20160329_175502

Once I got it open the reason for that warning was evident.  The products were right there.  The box was well packed and padded so nothing moved around during shipping.  There is no info card included so we’ll see how well I can identify things.

20160329_175519

Indigena Skincare Partridgeberry Bath Soak-80g $8.00 Full Size

According to their website Indigena is Atlantic Canada’s most loved skincare brand.  This bath soak is made to help hydrate, calm, cool, and exfoliate your skin.  It has wild harvested and organic essential oils.  This package is enough for 2 baths.  Yay!

20160329_175538

Paradise Farms Bee Natural Beeswax Emergency Candle-$4.50

I love the smell of beeswax candles!  While I will more than likely just burn this like a regular candle it is actually made to be used by outdoor enthusiasts or people who are driving a bunch.  It has a six hour burning time and contains no toxins.

20160329_175634 20160329_175649

Purity Blueberry Jam-250mL $3.69

Okay so how awesome is it to get jam in the mail????  This looks and tastes just like my Baba used to make.  According to their website I can buy this here from the company I actually work for……wow.  I shall now be looking for it in the store because it is really tasty.  For some reason my kids do not like jam on toast so yay more for me.  This company makes a whole bunch of different things so I am kinda hoping for more from them in future boxes.

20160329_175724

Introspective Design Photo-?

This is a little odd.  This is a photo of I’m guessing a harbour in Newfoundland somewhere.  It is not marked at all though the back is signed by that photographer.  The envelope says to like them of Facebook and there are lots of other photos and giveaways on there.

20160329_175801

Anna Stevens Prints Rock Talk Print-$3.00

This is a cute print.  It is obviously shaped like Newfoundland and all the words that make it up are Newfie slang.  I can’t read them without hearing them in Newfie in my head.  I thing their accent is great and would happily sit and listen to them just talk if given the chance.  This print it 4×6″ and I’m going to have to find a frame for it.  It’s a nice touch.

This was my first box from Loves It so I had no idea what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  I am not disappointed!  The photo is a bit odd but beyond that everything is nice.  There is a good mix of products and it was all full sized so can’t complain about that.  The value this month is $19.19 plus the photo.  That is way short of what they say you should receive because I just can’t see that picture being worth $20.00.  It’s also less than I paid for the box, which is unfortunate.  Hopefully next month will redeem it.  The pictures I’ve seen of their past boxes did look like they had more items so maybe this as just an off month.  If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.
