Loves It Newfoundland Box March 2017

Loves It is a box of Newfoundland sourced, hand crafted, home made items.  They are proudly sending out boxes of items they purchase from those local suppliers so that they can show off the greatness of their artists, crafters, and businesses.  They offer both a Standard or a Premium box and monthly or quarterly subscriptions.  Boxes start at $35.00 a month but do go down with longer plans.  There will be 4-7 items per box and they say they will range in value from $40-$75.  I am always on the lookout for Canadian boxes and so while I’m not from Newfoundland nor have I ever been there I was still interested in this box.

The box was heavy on one side this time and missing the do not cut warning.  Inside had a book of some sort on top and a few other things I couldn’t see.

20170324_214816

First out of the box is a Hometown Pride sticker.  It has the provincial colours and outline of the province on it.  This one is not suited for me to use but thankfully one of my husband’s coworkers is a Newfie and I think we’ll give this to him.

Claire’s Community Cookbook

This cookbook is a collection of recipes put together in support of a little girl who had Cerebral Palsy.  Every one of the cookbooks sold gives a donation to her charity.  I like this kind of cookbook as they tend to have more recipes of things I might actually make then say one from a celebrity chef.

20170324_214833

Tval Ginger Handmade Soap-$5.00

This soap smells very nice.  It doesn’t have a crazy ginger scent and also has cocoa butter for softening.  I have quite a bit of soap to use up but once I get to this one it’ll be a good one.

20170324_214849

Foggy Island Candles in Bakeapple-$6.00

This candle smells wonderful!  It is one of their pie in a jar candles.  I’m not sure what the scent is, as it’s not regular apple pie.  It has a sweet smell.  All of the candles I’ve received from them before have burned well and given a smell to the whole house, so I don’t think this one will be any different.

Indigena Blueberry Bliss Face Masque-$12.00

This powder just needs to be mixed with water to make a paste and applied.  It is good for acne and as a clarifying mask to remove excess oils for smoother skin.  It smells like slightly rotten blueberries in it’s powder form but all of the reviews for it say it’s amazing so I will give it a try.

Crochet Bath Puff by Cheerio Creations

My crochet skills are nowhere near good enough to make something like this. This puff is made out of the same yarn you’d use for a dishcloth, so it’ll stand up to body scrubbing well.  I think variegated yarns are the best and I buy them just to have them.  This really is a great thing in this box.

I thought last month was my last box from Loves It but I got this one.  As normal, I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. Value is always hard for this box as I don’t always know where things are from. Only one of the items this month is a duplicate so that is way better than last time.  I will still let them know since they have specifically asked about it.  If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.

Loves It Newfoundland Box February 2017

20170227_192549Miniature Moose Necklace-$20.00

This is so CUTE!!!!  I love this necklace.  Velvet Snow, the business, has some really beautiful and fun things on their site.  I could easily spend a bunch of money there. It has an antique brass finish and is on an 18″ chain.  So happy with this.

Newfoundland Quickies 7 Fine Art Postcards by Keli-Ann Pye-Beshara-$8.00

These are lovely.  They are all prints of original acrylic paintings done by the artist.  I use postcards and having interesting ones that are unique is great.  I think this is a perfect addition to a box like this.  It is a useful product that shows off a homegrown talent.  This is a duplicate item from April of last year.

20170227_192638Puffin Car Decal

I’m so torn on this one.  I really like it but I’m not sure I should have a puffin decal, having never been to Newfoundland.  I’ll have to think on this one.

20170227_192657Mewfoundland Purrfections Cat Toy

How cute is this catnip toy?  We don’t have any cats so this doesn’t work for us but I like it and find it adorable.  Do you think I could get away with it just being a decoration????

20170227_192710Spoon Rest

This couldn’t have come at a better time.  We had Tupperware ones and they got a touch too close to the burners and now we have none. I need a spoon rest badly!  Now that it’s been painted, it is no longer dishwasher safe but I can still hand wash it and put it to good use.

This was my last box from Loves It and as normal, I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. Value is always hard for this box as I don’t always know where things are from. Loves It Newfoundland Box January 2017

My box was missing the warning about not cutting down this month so I wasn’t sure if there was going to be a print or not.  Tucked just under the top flaps was a business card and on the back, it had a handwritten note to let them know if I’ve received doubles.  After the last few months of a lot of doubles, I was extra wary of seeing that now.

20170124_193005Puffin-Straight From The Rock Print 5×7″-$5.00 approx.

I guess I was wrong about the print!  This is a print of original artwork by Mr.Grips.  His website shows a few different collections, all in this style and I think it’s great.  This is another one I’ll have to get a frame for but I like the flag background and I think puffins are awesome!

20170124_193019

Newfoundland Seasonings Atlantic Sea Salt Coarse-$6.99

This one is a duplicate for me but at least it’s been since August since I got it.  This is a hard one to complain about though since salt will always be used and it won’t go bad. I still don’t have a salt grinder to put this in but now I really have no excuse not to get one.

20170124_193044Random Island Soapery Whipped Peppermint Body Butter-$10.00

This is soooooooooo light and fluffy!!!!!It does leave my hands feeling very greasy and is now all over my keyboard but it smells nice and I can’t get over how light the whip is.  This company doesn’t have a website yet but they are on Facebook and seem to be available in local stores and craft sales.

20170124_193115Yes B’Y Socks-$?

These have no markings or tags at all so I can tell you nothing but that they have the saying embroidered on the cuff.  They are not crazy thick like some work socks are but they are still going to be warm and they feel soft.

20170124_193135Blueberry Da Bombz Bath Bombs-$?

Once again there are no markings to identify these but who doesn’t love a bath bomb?  They smell fantastic even through the packaging.  I think the butterfly tags are nice too.

This was my eleventh box from Loves It and as normal, I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.

Loves It Newfoundland Box October 2016

20161025_193138 20161025_193155

I was shocked this month to not see the familiar warning on the box to not cut down.  I guess there won’t be a print.  The box was heavy this month though.

20161025_193202 20161025_193207

Haunted Shores by Dale Jarvis-$14.95

This is a book of ghost stories of Newfoundland and Labrador.  I like ghost stories so that is a lucky thing.  Most of the ones in here seem to be only a few pages long each so there must be plenty of ghosts on those little islands.

20161025_193214

Home Sticker

I like this but as it would be a total lie for me to use it will be going to my Hubby to give to one of his coworkers who is an actual Newfie.

20161025_193254

Indigena Smooth Lip Balm-$4.99

This balm feels so nice!  It is made with Canadian beeswax and sweet orange oil.  I seem to be getting less balms lately so I like to see new ones and Canadian ones at that.

20161025_193317

Newfoundland Seasonings Taste Of ‘Ome-$3.85

This is a salt free blend of herbs and spices that is inspired by local flavours.  I can’t wait to use this on meat or veg, I think it’ll be great.

20161025_193344

Lard Tunderin’ Chocolate Bar-$5.00

I have got a few items from this chocolate company and they do not disappoint.  This is a milk chocolate with caramel and sea salt bar.  The wrapper is the provincial flag and this is one of many regional sayings.  I love Newfies.

20161025_193357

No Place Like Home Soap-$7.00

This is a partridgeberry and bakeapple soap.  I have no clue what either of those are but it smells amazing.  It is a shea butter soap and I will be putting this at the top of my to use pile.

I also got a Partridgeberry Candle from Foggy Island Candles but this blog is acting up and I’ve been having problems uploading pictures lately.  I’ve received their candles before and they are lovely.  They are worth $6.50.

This was my eigth box from Loves It and I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. Value is always hard for this box as I don’t always know where things are from, but this one is at least $41.64. If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.

Loves It Newfoundland Box September 2016

20160927_152312 20160927_152334

The warning is there again this month.  Inside we have a few interesting looking items.

20160927_152342

Coasters?

I think these might be coasters.  There are four of them and they don’t have the padding required for them to be pot holders.  They have a fun blueberry fabric and are plain black on the reverse.

20160927_152352

Boatload of Colour Special Edition Art Reproduction by Brenda Rowe

Some of the artwork I’ve received from this box has been lovely and this is no exception.  It is on that kinda foamy mat so it is about a quarter inch thick.

20160927_152401

Owshegettinonby Dark Chocolate Bar-$3.99

This is fun.  The name of the bar is a Newfie version of How Are You?  It doesn’t say what percentage of dark chocolate this is but since there is no such thing as bad chocolate it doesn’t matter.  They have a bunch of other sayings if you need to find a specific thought to express with chocolate.

20160927_152414

Nan’s Shortbread Foaming Shea Bath Treat-$4.50

This smells fantastic!  You can use either half or the whole thing at a time.  You just pop it into the tub under running water and sit back and enjoy.  I love bath products and can’t wait to use it.

20160927_152444

Friggin Wicked Weather Lotion-$12.00

This handmade lotion is good for your whole body.  It is for extra dry skin and can handle those super cold Canadian winters.  It has a fragrance that I have smelled before but I can’t place it.  It is like a sweet citrus maybe?  This is from and Etsy shop so you can pick some up.  It has made my hands feel great.

This was my seventh box from Loves It and I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. Value is always hard for this box as I don’t always know where things are from.  If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.

Loves It Newfoundland Box July 2016

20160726_141022

I know by now that this box usually has this warning on it and that means I might be getting a print or some type of paper good.

20160726_141041 20160726_141048

Petty Harbour Blues Print by Bobbi Pike Art-$20.00

I think the fact that they send out original artwork is a great thing.  I would never buy art because I don’t care too much to have things on the walls….yeah I’m odd…..but since it keeps showing up in boxes I am getting a bit of a collection.  This is an 8″x10″ print and hand titled and signed by the artist.  Maritime images make me happy and even though I’ve yet to get to the East Coast it just feels homey and wonderful to me.

20160726_141058

Newfoundland An Island Apart-$18.95

I’m so sad that they shipped me this again this month.  I think it’s a beautiful book and enjoyed it but to send out the same item twice and in back to back months is not great practice.  I have sent them an email about it but haven’t heard anything back.  This is a book filled with beautiful pictures taken by Dennis Minty.  It seems to cover all areas of life in Newfoundland and shows the absolute glory that is that province.

20160726_141108 20160726_141137

Beads By The Sea Bracelet

I can’t get a price for this item because the Etsy shop is empty.  Though it seems like the owner has been having some medical issues, based on her Facebook posts,  and been unable to get new products made.  This bracelet is too large for my wrist but that is because I have tiny wrists.  The glass bead is very pretty though.

20160726_141205 20160726_141210

It’s Tangly Keychain-$6.75

There seems to be keychain in every box.  This one is in the provincial colours I believe and tied from paracord.

This was my fifth box from Loves It and I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products and it was all full sized so can’t complain about that. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. The value this month is around $45.00, plus the bracelet.  If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.

Loves It Newfoundland Subscription Box June 2016

20160624_190847

Always a warning with this box.  I’m not sure why they just don’t put the cutable items on the bottom and save everyone the chance of ruining things.

20160624_190910

As you can see I had a helper for this unboxing.  The reason for not cutting down is very obvious once it’s open.  As I mention every time I really wish they included a card or something to tell me about the items in here.

20160624_190921

Inuksuk Keychain-$1.00?

This appears to be handmade.  Beyond that I can tell you very little.  I have no idea how this relates to Newfoundland or what business makes it.

20160624_190931

Port aux Choix Lighthouse Print by Angela Foss

This numbered print is very lovely.  The artist seems to do a variety of styles and while I can’t find this one or this size on her site I do like it.  It is a bit of a collage style, with the lighthouse part laid of the main print.

20160624_190940 20160624_190956

Newfoundland An Island Apart-$18.95

This is a book filled with beautiful pictures taken by Dennis Minty.  It seems to cover all areas of life in Newfoundland and shows the absolute glory that is that province.  I can’t wait to dive in and imagine myself there.

20160624_191008

The Crystal Ball Newfoundland Crocheted Soap in Maleficent-$5.00

This is so freakin cute!!! It’s a bar of soap inside a crocheted cozy.  It makes your soap last longer and exfoliates as you use it.  Once all the soap is gone you can just use it as a scrubby.  The soap inside is lemongrass so it smells great.

20160624_191032

Paradise Farms Beeswax Hand Cream-$5.99

If you’ve been reading my blog for a bit you know I love the scent of beeswax.  I thought for a minute that this was unscented but once I put it on and rubbed it in the smell came out and I am in love.  I can totally see myself ordering from this company.  They have a large choice of items available on their website and while this does leave my hands slightly greasy I can overlook that because of the other benefits.  My hands feel great with this on.

This was my fourth box from Loves It and I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products and it was all full sized so can’t complain about that. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. The value this month is around $30.00, back down below the promised value unless that print is expensive.  If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.

Loves It Newfoundland Subscription Box May 2016

20160530_183709 20160530_183735

This box always comes with a warning to be careful about opening it and once you do carefully get in there you can see why.  There is usually a print or something easily damaged right on the top.  I really wish that they would include an info card in this box because I have a hard time figuring out what I got and how much it costs.

20160530_183837

Dark Tickle Iceberg Chocolates-56g $7.95

These are wild blueberries in milk chocolate and shaped like icebergs.  They are delicious and after browsing their site there are so many  things on there I want to eat.  I’m all for getting food in boxes and Canadian food is even better.

20160530_183915

Indigena Skincare Partridgeberry Lip Balm-$4.99

I have had a massive slow down on getting lip balms lately so I’m happy to get this one.  It says it will be hydrating and soothing as well as anti-aging.  It feels nice on and I’m sure it’ll leave my lips lovely.

20160530_183947

Indigena Moisture Melt-40mL $24.00

So this is crazy expensive for a lotion. It is also crazy greasy.  It is made up of a blend of coconut, grapeseed and partridgeberry oils and a few other things thrown in and you can tell it’s all oil.  I’m sure it will be great for adding moisture and healing the skin but even typing now is a problem.  There is no way you could rub this on and do anything for a while.

20160530_184006 20160530_184050

Gaze Seed Company Sample Bag-$9.00

This is an odd but great addition to the box.  They sent a variety of seeds plus soil pods to start them in.  I’ve already planted the little garden I’ll have this year but I can grow the herbs for sure and maybe a few of the others.  The company has been around since 1925 and still going strong.

20160530_184143 20160530_184155

Newfoundland Provincial Anthem Print-$12.00

I enjoy the prints that they have been sending out in this box.  This one might be more difficult to display because I would have to explain that I have no connection to NL at all and that might be weird.  Still cool though.

This was my third box from Loves It and I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products and it was all full sized so can’t complain about that.  The value this month is $57.94, which is way better than last month.  They finally also reached the promised value, which is nice.  If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.

Loves It Newfoundland Subscription Box April 2016

20160427_183958 20160427_184020

Once again the box warned me not to cut down while opening it.  After careful cutting I could see a whole collection of things.  There is not an info card with this box and I wish there was.  It is difficult to find the items and price them online and I don’t always know what everything is.

20160427_184036 20160427_184400

Foggy Island Candles in Peppermint Nobs-$6.67 x 2

These candles smell very nice.  Instead of a strong mint scent, they are more like those pink Scotch mints everyone’s Grandma has in a bowl.  Considering I love those, these make me happy.  I have a candle burning every night after the girls go to bed and I think these ones will  impart a great smell through the house.

20160427_184056 20160427_184142 20160427_184136

Fog Off CLothing Co. Wristband-$1.00

This is what I mean about the box being a little difficult to identify.  I appreciate that they are promoting local companies and this one does great charity with your purchase, it’s not really normal to just give a wristband and a business card.  This will go to the girls as a play bracelet.

20160427_184115 20160427_184342 20160427_184301 20160427_184120

Newfoundland Quickies 7 Fine Art Postcards by Keli-Ann Pye-Beshara-$8.00

These are lovely.  They are all prints of original acrylic paintings done by the artist.  I use postcards and having interesting ones that are unique is great.  I think this is a perfect addition to a box like this.  It is a useful product that shows off a homegrown talent.

20160427_184213

Monkey’s Fist Knot Keychain-$5.00

I had to have my Hubby identify this knot for me.  He spent a fair amount of years being in the Navy and so has knot knowledge that exceeds most people on the Prairies.  As you can see from the picture I had some helpers while unboxing this one.  There is no identifying tag on this so I don’t know where or who makes this.  I have priced it based on similar ones I’ve been able to find.

20160427_184155

Purity Candy Barrels-$4.25

These are fruit flavoured hard candies.  I will probably take these to work but I enjoy them and will try to not suck on too many of them a day.  This is the second month in a row to receive something from this brand but they have been vastly different items.

This was my second box from Loves It and I still had no idea what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products and it was all full sized so can’t complain about that.  The value this month is $31.59, which is way better than last month.  However it is short of what they say you should receive.  It’s also less than I paid for the box, which is unfortunate.  Hoping again that next month will redeem it.  The pictures I’ve seen of their past boxes did look like they had more items so maybe this as just an off month.  If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.
