Julep Maven January 2017

Julep Maven is a monthly beauty box full of their own brand of cosmetics and nail polishes.  You can take the box they select or trade out items and colours to get exactly what you want each month.  You also get access to their online store before anyone else each month and can add on any amount of extras you want (paying for them on top of your box of course).  When you sign up you take a little quiz so they get to know your likes and can curate your box just for you.  All items in the box are full sized.   Boxes start at $24.99 a month but they do go down if you pick a longer plan.  They are also always giving away something for joining so make sure you look around a bit first.  I got a set of items worth $112.00 for free!  I have waited quite a while before joining this one as they mostly are nail polish and I don’t need any more of that but since you can customise your box I was able to reduce the polish and up the makeup.

20170110_193307This box was a mistake on their part to me.  I had cancelled my plan after my six months was up and received a confirmation email saying that had happened.  Shortly after that, I received the email saying my plan had shipped and I had been charged for another term.  A quick email to them had it all straightened out but this was already on it’s way to me and so now I got a bonus box!

The box only had a couple of items in it.  One of them looks really exciting though so I’m not complaining.  They have a card with info on the new item they sent out this month and a discount code.

20170110_193417Your Lip Addiction Tinted Lip Oil Treatment in Obsessed-$17.60

This is a lip gloss that heals and hydrates as you wear it.  It has just a soft hint of colour, the one I got is red, but you can get two other shades or just clear.  It does not make my lips sticky at all.  The only complaint I have it that it does have a bit of an oily taste and that’s not so pleasant.  20170110_193536Boost Your Radiance Reparative Rosehip Seed Facial Oil-$28.80

This oil is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars, and hyperpigmentation. It absorbed nice and quick and left my skin feeling nice.  I have slowly given over to using oils on my face, even though it sounds counterintuitive to everything I  normally do to remove oil from my skin.

20170110_193555The treat this month was a Tootsie Roll.  I’m okay with that.

The items had a value of $46.40 and I used the Maven pricing, which is better than regular retail.  I won’t be renewing but that’s just so I can try new things, not because I didn’t like the items included.  If you want to try them out or really like nail polish, click here to visit their site.

Julep Maven December 2016

I have waited quite a while before joining this one as they mostly are nail polish and I don’t need anymore of that but since you can customize your box I was able to reduce the polish and up the makeup.

They have a nice purple accented box.  Inside your items are packed in squiggles and covered with tissue paper.

They don’t have an info card, they send you an email about what you’re getting, but they do tell you all about the curated box items.  This month there was  also a coupon for a free polish with purchase and a paper letting me know I got a bonus item for picking 3 or more add-ins.  I was using up Maven points since this was my last box from them and that’s how I got the extras.

20161212_193145

It’s Whipped Matte Lip Mousse in Dare-$16.00

“A weightless matte lip color that lasts all day and never feels dry. A super-pigmented formula provides saturated color for up to 12 hours of comfortable wear.”  This is really dark and a little odd to apply.  The wand is not great.  It has a texture almost like a lipstick and made a bit of a mess on my face actually.  I think it’ll be okay once I get used to it but I now know I should have traded for a different colour as this one is not really me.

20161212_193025When Pencil Met Gel Eyeliner in Smoky Taupe Shimmer-$12.80

“A waterproof eye pencil with the formula of a gel eyeliner that glides on smoothly without tugging or skipping. Sets in 30 seconds and provides 10+ hours of wear. Ophthalmologist tested.” I am so in love with their eyeliners that I get one every box I think.  The really and truly do not smudge or move or do anything but accent your eyes.  I want every colour…..now!

20161212_192949Eyeshadow 101 Stick in Orchid Shimmer-$14.40

“A waterproof, crème-to-powder shadow stick on top with a spongy smudger on the other end. Expect huge color payoff and crease-proof, stay-all-day power.” This is a totally wearable purple colour.  I think this is my third shade of this shadow and I have been wearing them since they showed up.  They last on my eyes and are not over the top with the shimmer. No disco ball eyeballs here.

20161212_193219Skip The Brush Blush Stick in Sheer Glow-$19.20

“A one stick wonder made for luminous, dewy cheeks, but versatile on eyes and lips, too. This soft-focus powder has ultrafine color pearls that go on creamy then set to a long-lasting powder finish. Easy to apply, easy to blend (no brush needed!), easy to keep in your clutch for on-the-go beauty touch-ups.” This one is not providing any colour really but a gentle shimmer.

20161212_193240Clean Slate Conditioning Nail Polish Remover-$8.00

“This gentle lavender-scented nail polish remover quickly melts polish away without drying your nails.” I always need more remover and I’m thinking that a company that makes polish should know how to get it off again.

20161212_193111Gel Eye Glider in Smoky Taupe Shimmer-$?

This was supposed to be a lip crayon.  Instead it is an old version of the When Pencil Met Gel liner.  They noticed their mistake before the box got here and sent an email to let me know the right product was on the way.

20161212_193309Classic With A Twist in Jacqueline-$5.00

“A fast-drying, long-lasting nail polish powered by breakthrough Oxygen Technology that makes nails healthy and more beautiful at the same time. Our proprietary 5-free, vegan-friendly formula also includes strengthening Hexanal and antioxidant green coffee extract.” This was my bonus item for adding things to the order.  It is a red shimmer and perfect for Christmas!  Great bonus item.

As I mentioned above, this is my last Julep Maven box. I love the liner, if you can’t tell.   The items had a value of $88.20 and I used the Maven pricing, which is better than regular retail.  I won’t be renewing but that’s just so I can try new things, not because I didn’t like the items included.  If you want to try them out or really like nail polish, click here to visit their site.

Julep Maven October 2016

I have waited quite a while before joining this one as they mostly are nail polish and I don’t need anymore of that but since you can customize your box I was able to reduce the polish and up the makeup.

20161007_130958

If there seems like there is a bunch of stuff in my box this month, you’re right.  I used my Julep points to get free stuff!  Yay!

20161007_131122 20161007_131131

They sent a card letting everyone know that there was a bonus item in the boxes.  Also the card tells you all about one of the products this month that is new.

20161007_131333

Fluid Eye Glider-$16.00

“A jet black, water-resistant eyeliner pen with a no-fray precision point felt tip that makes it easy to create thin or thick lines. Dries fast and stays put for 12+ hours. Ophthalmologist tested.”  So, like their other eye liners, this one does not move.  Liquid liner in a pen is the only way I can not look like my 2YO drew my eyes on.

20161007_131200

Night Shift-$27.20

“A reparative moisture mask that does the heavy lifting while you’re fast asleep so you wake up to a brighter, smoother, and firmer complexion.” This is a night cream that you apply as regular and leave on until morning.  I try to remember to do a night routine but it does get lost in the bustle of kids and things to remember.

20161007_131303

When Pencil Met Gel in Forest Green Shimmer-$12.60

“A waterproof eye pencil with the formula of a gel eyeliner that glides on smoothly without tugging or skipping. Sets in 30 seconds and provides 10+ hours of wear. Ophthalmologist tested.” I can’t say enough about their liners.  I love them, have most colours at this point and they are just great.  I have actually tested them on my hand, bathed my kids, and had it still be there.  They are amazing.

20161007_131521

Gel Eye Glider Sharpener-$8.00

“A travel-friendly tool that sharpens our eye gliders to a pointed tip for more precise application.” You don’t need a special sharpener for the liners but this was the first of my free items and I like that it keeps all the shavings tidy.

20161007_131233

When Pencil Met Gel in Gilded Gold Shimmer-$12.60

“A waterproof eye pencil with the formula of a gel eyeliner that glides on smoothly without tugging or skipping. Sets in 30 seconds and provides 10+ hours of wear. Ophthalmologist tested.” As above, these things are my favourite.  Seriously.

20161007_131549

Gold Triangle Nail Decals

“Subtle triangle nail decals that are so on trend this season and beyond.”  I was running low on free points and these caught my eye.  I usually don’t have the time to bother with decals but these are small and classy enough to use for work as well.

20161007_131435

Nail Color in Desiree-$11.20

This was a bonus item in everyone’s boxes this month.  It is a holographic top coat and I think it’s great.  I don’t normally get any of their polishes because I don’t need any more but the odd one is a good surprise.

20161007_131403

Nail Color in Colton-$11.20

This was another bonus item for having three add on items in my box.  It is a super dark purple, that looks more black than anything else.

This was my fourth Julep Maven box. I love the liner, if you can’t tell.   The items had a value of $98.80 and I used the Maven pricing, which is better than regular retail.  If you want to try them out or really like nail polish, click here to visit their site.

20161107_180710 20161107_180719

They send your package out in a lovely purple box.  Inside things were snugly nestled in some squiggles.

20161107_180740 20161107_180753

They do send out an info card but it’s more of an advertisement then a standard card.  This month is letting you know about the new collection, Light & Shadow.  This is also the first month I haven’t made any changes to what they wanted to send me.

20161107_180900

Eyeshadow 101 in Pearl Shimmer-$18.00

” A waterproof, crème-to-powder shadow stick on top with a spongy smudger on the other end.”  This is my first eyeshadow from them and I like it.  It’s a great shimmer shade and I will get lots of use from it.

20161107_180822

Eyeshadow 101 in Copper Shimmer-$18.00

” A waterproof, crème-to-powder shadow stick on top with a spongy smudger on the other end.”  Obviously the same blurb as the item in the same, only the colour is different.  This one is much darker than I expected it to be, but it’s really pretty.  The colours look good together and are very thick and not sheer at all.  These also do not smudge once they set.

20161107_180937

When Pencil Met Gel in Blackest Black-$16.00

” A waterproof eye pencil with the formula of a gel eyeliner that glides on smoothly without tugging or skipping.”  I am truly in love with their liners.  They do not budge in any way.  I think I have 6 or 7 of them now and they are my favourites.   I can literally rub my finger over these and they don’t fade or smudge or anything.  Brilliant!

This was my fifth Julep Maven box and for not choosing the items, I’m  happy with it.  I love the liner.   The items had a value of $52.00.  I only have one box left and I can’t wait.  If you want to try them out or really like nail polish, click here to visit their site.

20160913_143605 20160913_143624

They really love them some purple at Julep and it makes it fun.  I must have missed the email telling me about my box this month so I didn’t get to switch out any items.  I don’t really want more nail polish so that makes me sad but this polish is very good and doesn’t chip for a long time.  I am slightly confused though because when I check my account none of this is what it says I was receiving this month.

20160913_143653

When Pencil Met Gel in Gilded Gold Shimmer-$12.80

“A waterproof eye pencil with the formula of a gel eyeliner that glides on smoothly without tugging or skipping. Sets in 30 seconds and provides 10+ hours of wear. Ophthalmologist tested.” I love love love these liners so I’m happy to get another one.  They really are smudge-proof.  I can rub it and rub it and it never moves.  Best liner ever!

20160913_143712

Wonder Maven Polish in Shirley-$11.20

This is a gray/army green shade with gold micro shimmer.  It is a colour that I can easily wear to the office and have it look professional.  It’s probably not something I would have chosen for myself but I kinda like it.

20160913_143720

Wonder Maven Polish is Meredith-$11.20

This is a pale teal shade with just a hint of shimmer.  This is very much one I would pick out and I think it’ll be on my fingers pretty soon.

This was my third Julep Maven box and for not choosing the items, I’m  happy with it.  I love the liner.   The items had a value of $35.20 and I used the Maven pricing, which is better than regular retail.  If you want to try them out or really like nail polish, click here to visit their site.

Julep Maven August 2016

20160803_174724 20160803_174803

They have a great purple striped box that is understated but still fun.  Inside this month I found my selected items and a treat tucked in the corner.

20160803_174847

Blank Canvas Mattifying Face Primer-$22.40

“This age-defying primer creates a smooth, even canvas for gorgeous makeup that lasts all day.” I love primers and when this showed up as one of my options to trade out for I was all over it.  This is a slightly thicker primer than some others and more lotion-like then the gel type.  It gave nice coverage and did seem to provide some matte effect.

20160803_174917

Julep Lip Gloss in Admired-$16.00

“A sheer, subtle gloss that makes lips look and feel amazing. Infused with our ultra hydrating, age-defying Power Cell Complex ”  This month’s lip gloss is just as fabulous as last months.  I would easily get 3 lip glosses each month, I like them that much.  They smell great, they feel great on, and they are not sticky but have just the right hint of shine.

20160803_175002

When Pencil Met Gel Liner in Radiant Amethyst-$12.80

“Clinically proven to last for 10+ hours, this easy-to-use eye pencil delivers the creamy formula & intense color payoff of a gel eyeliner. The waterproof formula glides on, sets in 30 seconds, and then stays put. Because eyeliner shouldn’t stand in the way of adventures.”  When they say this liner lasts they mean it!  I have applied it and then rubbed it and it doesn’t move…..at all.  The colour is vibrant and I love it almost as much as the lip gloss.

20160803_175035

Bonus Candy

They do toss a candy in the box.  This month it’s a Lemonhead.

This was my second Julep Maven box and I’m so, so happy with it.  I love the gloss and the liner.  The gloss was the only thing that was original from the box they selected for me.   The items had a value of $51.20 and that’s almost triple what I paid for the box, plus I used the Maven pricing, which is better than regular retail.  If you want to try them out or really like nail polish, click here to visit their site.

Julep Maven July 2016

I have waited quite a while before joining this one as they mostly are nail polish and I don’t need anymore of that but since you can customize your box I was able to reduce the polish and up the makeup.

20160708_190535

This one came in it’s own branded box.  It’s not very large but there was plenty of room for everything I would be getting.

20160708_190558 20160708_190625

Inside it was colourful and my items were safely nestled in those dreaded squiggles.

20160708_190636 20160708_190654 20160708_190644

They do include a card in the box but it doesn’t tell you anything about what you received.  You can login to your account or check out the email they sent when you confirmed your picks for that.

20160708_190753

So Radiant Diamond Powder Bronzer in Light Golden Bronze-$22.40

I’m going to copy the blurb from their site about this here for you, “A soft-focus bronzer with illuminating diamond powder that minimizes the appearance of pores. Enhanced with vitamin B6 and age-defying Power Cell Complex™ to promote softer, smoother skin with continued use.”   I’m not huge on bronzers but I also know that this time of year they are going to be everywhere.  This one has a great shimmer to it and I usually use them as blusher more then anything else.

20160708_190839

Julep Lip Gloss in Delighted-$16.00

“A sheer, subtle gloss that makes lips look and feel amazing. Infused with our ultra hydrating, age-defying Power Cell Complex™. ”  This gloss is AMAZING!  The colour is truly almost sheer and my lip colour and it has the best shimmer I’ve seen in a gloss in a long time.  It also smells fantastic and I want to wear it all the time now!  Love love love this!

20160708_190919

When Pencil Met Gel Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Electric Teal Shimmer-$12.80

“Clinically proven to last for 10+ hours, this easy-to-use eye pencil delivers the creamy formula & intense color payoff of a gel eyeliner. The waterproof formula glides on, sets in 30 seconds, and then stays put. Because eyeliner shouldn’t stand in the way of adventures.” This was the item I traded my nail polish for.  It is very bright and also has a shimmer, like everything else in the box this time.  I mix up my liner all the time and this one should get noticed.  I really tried to smudge this and it didn’t move!

20160708_190937

There was also a treat in the box…..these things are my favourite and I’m having to fight my girls to eat it.  I will prevail!

This was my first Julep Maven box and I’m very happy with it.  I love the gloss and the liner.  The bronzer is a great item, just not my favourite thing.  The items had a value of $51.20 and that’s almost triple what I paid for the box, plus I used the Maven pricing, which is better than regular retail.  If you want to try them out or really like nail polish, click here to visit their site.
