Doodlebugs Busy Bags January 2016

One  subscription I’ve been getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags.  The website describes them as….”DoodleBug Busy Bags is a monthly craft subscription for kids ages 3 – 10. DoodleBug Busy Bags keep little hands busy and little minds active. Each month your child will receive a bag of 4 – 8 curated crafts, often centered on a holiday or seasonal theme, and all the supplies your child needs to complete each activity. Once completed, the crafts may be used as learning tools, decorations, toys, or given away as gifts. DoodleBug Busy Bags are fun, easy to complete, and help develop motor skills, creativity, hand-eye coordination, and confidence.”  Bags are $23.99 including shipping and go down with longer subscriptions.  This months theme is Winter Fun.

20160119_202453

This is what you get inside of the outer mailer.  Everything you need is in this bag.

20160119_202507

The page inside gives you a picture of each completed project and gives you a little more info on what you need to do and if you need any parts that might have been just in the back instead of included in each pouch.

20160119_202614 20160119_202622

Winter Wonderland Sand Art

There were 6 options of pictures you could have received and I think the one we got is adorable.  I also think this is going to be soooooo messy!  You peel off a bit of the paper and then sprinkle the coloured sand onto the adhesive board.  I don’t even know if I am capable of doing this neatly, let alone my four year old.

20160119_202600

Silly Snowflake Magnet

This one is more our speed.  It’s very cute and will be a good addition to our collection on the fridge.

20160119_202536

Tissue Paper Snowman

We still have the tissue paper bear from out first box a year ago to do because I just don’t see Bug having the patience to complete the whole thing before becoming bored with it.  It is cute and I can’t wait until she is a bit older to make these happen.

20160119_202525

Penguin Thermometer

There is an actual thermometer included in this so you can see the temperature in your house while it is attached to your fridge.  Oh right, forgot to mention, it is also a magnet.

20160119_202548

Snowman Face Magnet

This one is crazy simple.  There are literally 5 pieces to stick on.  We will power through it though.

20160119_202633

Wooden Beaded Snowman Necklace

Bug loves getting these in here.  She has made a few of them and wears them and plays with them.  She has the beading skill down pat and so only needs my help to tie the knots in the clasp ends for her.

20160119_202645

Beaded Snowflake Ornament

We made something like this this year as decorations but didn’t use all clear beads.  This one should be pretty when done, and is another one that will require on the most basic supervision on my part.

20160119_202706

Winter Activity Sheet, Pencil, and Sharpener

These are listed in the info as Fun Extras.  Pencils are huge in this house.  I think maybe a bit of my love for stationery has been passed on to the kids.  Bug actually got a pencil in a treat bag yesterday and we’ve had to sharpen it six times already.

As noted before all of these crafts are from Oriental Trading but since I don’t have to purchase them in large quantities off the site and everything we need to create is included in the bag, I like this. If you need glue or anything else that does not come in the prepackaged craft they make sure it’s in your bag so you really do not have to run to the store. It’s also nice that each of these crafts are fairly quick and we can do them in the short time between bath and bedtime when we need to be winding down.  The next months theme is going to be Valentine’s Day but this was our last bag.  There was a handy sticker on the outer envelope letting me know though, which was nice.

Doodlebugs Busy Bags December 2015

One  subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags. This months theme is Christmas.

20151226_154709

The included paper shows you the finished projects and depending on the craft gives you a tip to do them or lets you know that some of the additional parts are in the big bag it ships in.

20151226_154759

“Santa Stop Here” Doorknob Hanger

There was a whole lot of excitement this year for Santa and while this bag did arrive before Xmas there was no time to get into it.  We will be sure to have this done up for next year.

20151226_154810

Christmas Train Sign

You just need to add the toys to the top of the train and give it some wheels to get this one done.  It’s cute and Bug will enjoy it.

20151226_154743

“Legend Of The Gingerbread Man” Christmas Ornament

After you build your gingerbread man you can read the story which gets tied on with a ribbon.  I don’t think I know what the story is behind these so it’ll be a learning time for me too!

20151226_154834

Metal Jingle Bell Wreath Christmas Ornament

Stringing bells on a pipe cleaner?  Perfect craft to take up time in between family and food and the major things that always leave kids wanting attention this time of year.

20151226_154721 20151226_154823

Loopy Christmas Wreath

The paper strips all have adhesive on them to hold them into loops but then they give you a glue stick to attach them to the paper base. Serious adult help needed here.

20151226_154734

3D Reindeer Stable

I hate these kind.  I seem to have some type of blockage when putting them together and then they fall apart after like five minutes with much yelling and tears on both sides.  They are really cute though.

The next months theme is going to be Winter but I think our subscription is up with this one so I don’t know if we’ll get it or not.

Doodlebugs Busy Bags Novenber 2015

One  subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags. This months theme is Thanksgiving.  Obviously this is an American company, since our Thanksgiving was last month but Bug just loves making the crafts and doesn’t care about the fact that maybe we are not doing all of them in the month when maybe they were most relevant.

20151124_135847

Every month they include a sheet with the projects on it and let you know if there are any additional instructions or extra pieces that are not in each individual bag but are in the big bag everything ships in.

20151124_135931

Give Thanks Magnet

These are always nice and simple and whip up quick.  For some reason pumpkins were a big thing with us this year so I know this one will be a hit.

20151124_140110

Turkey

This is a paper turkey that gets all glued together.  They include the glue stick so you really need only the time and effort to make it.  Anything involving glue is always fun, if messy, and maybe needs a bit more mom help then some others.

20151124_140055

Magic Color Scratch Fall Leaves

We have received a few of these scratch projects form them and while I think they are pretty boring, Bug loves them and will scratch lines, words, and names into them until there is not much left to scratch off.

20151124_140025 20151124_140040

Gourd Turkey

This one looks like a lot of fun.  The finished picture is so cute!  I think this one will have to be a day off project instead of a before bed one though.

20151124_135907

Enter With A Thankful Heart Wreath

I missed a picture of the foam wreath base but basically you glue leaves on to it and make the wreath.  It is a great message and a fun project.

20151124_135919

Turkey Beaded Necklace

Bug is starting to really like jewelry so every time we get one of these it gets more and more wear.  They are simple to string up and end up being quite cute for the four year old set.

20151124_140118 20151124_140126

Cornucopia Sewing Craft

This one is not on the project list so I’m not sure if it was a last minute addition or just got missed.  Either way it will be a bit more challenging with the sewing required and should make us work for the finished project.

The next months theme is going to be Christmas and I am pretty sure it will be our last bag as well.

Doodlebugs Busy Bags October 2015

One  subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags. This months theme is Halloween Fun.

20151027_184255

Everything comes packed in a giant zipper bag.  All of the crafts are individually wrapped inside and any other additional things are floating around in there too.

20151027_184309

The included paper tells you what crafts you got and if there are any additional instructions that maybe are not clear.  It will also tell you if there are any of the spare parts you need to use on a specific craft.

20151027_184410

Polka Dot Bat Ornament

This is quite cute and there are lots of stickers to apply which always goes down well.

20151027_184401

Craft Stick Monster Ornament

We got the Frankenstein one and you need to align them on a sheet and adhere them to make the face.  This one is slightly more complex but will still be a good one.

20151027_184351

Ghost Door Hanger

This will spell out BOO when completed.  I think the biggest issue with this one is not letting little fingers get hold of it and rip all the stickers off.  I really want to do this one myself so we can use it as a decoration.

20151027_184439

Reflective Spider Wristband

I’m glad for the title on this one because I could not figure out what is was supposed to be.  The finished picture included looks awesome and we might have to do this one up quickly so we can use it on Halloween night.

20151027_184427

Ghost Kid Magnet

There doesn’t seem to be enough pieces in the bag but I guess ghosts are white so maybe they are all there.  The magnets end up on the fridge for a bit and everyone loves them.

20151027_184341

Spider Magnet

Another cute one.  I kind of like him as he sits in the bag.  There were four shape options and we got triangle.  These are so quick to whip up that they work as distractions.

The next months theme is going to be Thanksgiving.

Doodlebugs Busy Bag September 2015

One  subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags. This months theme is Superhero.

20150922_112311 20150922_112519

This is what I pulled out of the envelope.  Bug is REALLY into superheros right now so this couldn’t have come at a better time.  This whole group of items and crafts is going to be a huge hit.  The item on the right is a Superhero Pocket Folder.  Inside of this is a sticker scene for you to create and a DIY comic book.  The comic might be a little to advanced for Bug but she’ll have fun placing the stickers on it even if she doesn’t make an actual comic.

20150922_112332

The sheet that comes with everything has a picture of every finished item and if there are any extra instructions or steps for completion they will be listed here as well.

20150922_112347

Superhero Cape

This just made my life so much easier.  We usually just use a hair clip on a tea towel.  This isn’t a craft but I know it’ll be so enjoyed that I don’t care.

20150922_112433

Color Your Own Superhero Mask

There were three options for different masks.  You get to colour it in as you want with the included pencil crayons and then there is an elastic to string through so you can wear it.  This will go well with the cape.

20150922_112500

Magic Color Scratch Superheros

You use the little pen to scratch off the black and reveal the colors underneath.  You can make any design you want to and there are two included out of four possible superheros.

20150922_112551

DIY Superhero Shield

This is a paper plate you decorate with the crayons and stickers.  Once you’ve got it as you want then you attach the elastic and you have a shield.  They included glue dots for this but we might have to beef that up.

I think this will be Bugs favorite box yet.

DoodleBug Busy Bag July 2015

One  subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags. This months theme is Under The Sea.

20150911_130350 20150911_130406

This month came with an added bonus bag to keep your crafts in until you can get to them.  They also let us know that all new subscribers would be getting this bag.

20150912_175405

As always there is a sheet letting you know what the crafts are and any extra hints you may need to complete them.  If there is some added items that would be in the big bag they tell you on here as well.

20150912_175425

Submarine Craft Kit

This is a 3D kit that makes a floating sub.  I’m not sure how long it would stay afloat in our tub but it’ll be fun to find out.

20150912_175451

Magic Color Scratch Fish

This one gives you two fish and a scratch tool so you can make your own designs on the fish.  I’m not sure how Bug will do with this one but with help we should be able to get some crazy type of fish.

20150912_175510

Seahorse Craft Kit

This is another one you stick together.  Also included was a stamp to give your seahorse a great design.

20150912_175535

Beaded Dolphin Necklace Craft Kit

I’m glad to see that the beads are the bigger bugle beads that Bug can handle on her own.  She likes to make the jewelry but rarely wears it after.  That may change as she gets a bit older though.

20150912_175547

Paper Plate Whale Craft

I forgot to get a pic of the plate but it’s a big blue paper plate that forms the body of the whale.  Everything else is stuck on to get your finished project.

20150912_175600

Sea Animal Sand Art

This one is going to be a mess!!!  The cutout has a layer of adhesive on it that you peel back and then sprinkle with the coloured sand.  Maybe I can just do this one myself and give it to Bug finished instead……

20150912_175616

Shark Sticker Sheet

There is a piece of paper and a sheet of stickers.  Enough said.

20150912_175633

Tropical Sea Life Activity Book w/Crayons

These are nicely packaged up so we could take them along on a trip or to Grandma’s.  We don’t need more crayons or colouring books but since these are small I’m sure we won’t even notice them laying around.

I like that this time they gave a few more advanced crafts even if it means a bit more mess.

Doodlebug Busy Bags August 2015

One  subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags. This months theme is Zoo.

20150912_175743

The included sheet gives you an overview of the projects for the month and also lets you know if there are extra bits in the big bag that you might need to finish them up.

20150912_175759

Zoo Animal Sticker Sheet

This one is fairly straight forward. You have a sheet of cardstock and a sheet of stickers that make up a variety of silly faces.  We got the monkey but there seem to be three other choices.

20150912_175816

Zoo Animal Slap Bracelet

I see only fights and screaming in my future with this.  I remember these from when I was in school.  This is just going to be so bad…..

20150912_175841

Mini Zoo Animal Coloring Book Set

This is a small coloring book and crayon set.  We need more crayons like Donald Trump needs more hair.  However coloring is a favorite activity so this one will be enjoyed.

20150912_175901

Animal Finger Puppets

These are rubbery plastic and for some reason the girls really like silly puppets like this.  We have a few alien ones from the dollar store and the get played with all the time.  These ones are cute and I think they will be stretched and stomped and pulled til they give in.

20150912_175914

Zoo Animal Necklace Craft Kit

We got the elephant and while I will need to be quite involved with the beading Bug will love this.  She doesn’t care so much for wearing them afterwards but really enjoys the making of them.

20150912_175926

Paper Plate Zoo Animal Craft Kit

This one is going to be a huge hit!  As you can see we got the giraffe and I think Bug will like that.  You get to stick on all the facial features and it has a hanging tab for display when done.

20150912_175950

Animal Mask

Oooo a racoon.  I think it’s great that whether by chance or by care we have received all different animals for each craft.  I don’t think we’ve ever had a mask in the house so I’m not sure how the girls will be with it.

20150912_180009

Zoo Animal Magnet Craft Kit

Again there were four animal options and we got the tiger.  We have had good success with magnet crafts in the past and this one will get as much on and off the fridge time I’m sure.  There is not much to do, only a few pieces to stick so it makes it quick.

While I complained last time about there being few crafts and a bunch of things, this time I think the ratio is better.  The mask, bracelet, and puppets can be used as rewards for good behaviour and the rest of the crafts will give us some fun.

Doodlebug Busy Bags June 2015

A new subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags. This months theme is On The Farm & Father’s Day.

20150624_204044 20150624_204059

All of the crafts come in this type of zippy bag with any extra bits you might need for each craft.  The instructions for each are in their individual bags but there is a main sheet showing what you got and any tips or help you might need to complete everything.

20150624_204112

3D Barn Craft Kit

The last time we got one of these building type projects I had to get Grandma to help her with it because I just ddin’t have the patience at the time to fuss with it.  I’m hoping this one will be less stressful for me. Bug loves them.

20150624_204130

Farm Animals

So this obviously is not a craft but I guess goes with the above item to make a playset.  They will get played with until I step on them and lose my sh*t.

20150624_204158

Farm Animal Reader

This is a little book about carp.  I honestly have never thought about looking for carp when I go to a farm but maybe I’m going to the wrong type of farms.  Books are a win every time.

20150624_204223

Farm Stickers

This one is a bit cheesy, it’s just a piece of paper and a sheet of stickers to put on it.  Not really a craft.

20150624_204236

Farm Animal Playing Cards

These are a regular deck of cards but with animals instead of normal suits.  We only use cards as matching games at this point but now we can add animal names to the fun.

20150624_204251

Farm Animal Magnet Craft Kit

It looks like we got the horse and if the level of fun the previous months magnet kits brought is anything to go by this might be the winner of favorite craft for Bug.

20150624_204309

Father’s Day Crafts

There are three crafts in this bag, Picture Frame Magnet Craft Kit, Super Dad Sticker Card, and Beaded Key CHain Kit.  This parcel arrived after Father’s Day had passed but that won’t stop us from making and giving them to Dad.  He’ll enjoy getting them.

I’m a little disappointed with this month.  There is only five actual crafts and that’s what I;m looking for out of this subscription.  Hopefully next month has a better ratio.

Doodlebug Busy Bags May 2015

Hey everyone!  Sorry for the long break but between work and the kidlets being sick I just haven’t had much free time.  I have also been feeling completely exhausted and pretty much in bed by 9:30 each night.  Hopefully I can get caught up here for a few days at least.

A new subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags. This months theme is Gifts For Mom.

20150514_164518

There are fewer crafts this month but they are all centered around Mom. This did arrive after Mother’s Day but as the sheet says these will be appreciated by Mom all year long.  We might do a few for grandma instead.

20150514_164734

First up this month is a MOM Card.  The letters open up to make a card spelling out mom.  They also give you a selection of jewels, buttons, markers and glitter glue to decorate it up.

20150514_165024

Next is an Artist Canvas and Easel.  You are supposed to use the same decorations from above to make mom a special picture

20150514_165031

This one I was at a loss to before I read the description.  It is a Wind Chime.  Again you have to save some of the decorations to make this up but it looks cute in the finished picture.

20150514_165038

Last up this month is a Bracelet.  The kids need to string the beads to make Mom a pretty spring bracelet.  This one will be our most challenging but it too looks nice.

Doodlebug Busy Bags April 2015

A new subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags. This months theme is Hello Spring.

This bag of goodies was inside of a plain bubble mailer.  Everything you need to do the crafts for the month is included, whether it’s glue, magnets, markers, or googly eyes.

There is an instruction sheet included in each project but this main page gives you the finished pictures and helpful hints for each one.  It also lets you know if something you need to complete the project is loose in the big bag instead of the smaller individual bags.

Hello Spring Sign. This one makes up a large wall hanging with flowers and Hello Spring in foam letters on in.  These hangings are some of Bug’s favourite crafts that we get in this bag.

Paper Plate Sun & Rainbow.  This one looks like fun.  The plate has a preglued adhesive strip for attaching the streamers.  The plate is prepainted and the mouth is already on.  We got a new hanging rod for all of the creations and this will take center stage.

Signs Of Spring Binoculars.  This one makes a funny pair of cardboard binoculars and includes a list to keep track of what you can see.  The marker was included but we keep those out of little hands at this point.

Stacked Flower Ornament.  This one is a flower on a stick with a face in the center.  It will cause no end of screaming as two little ones fight over who gets to hold it.

Hatching Bird Pop-Up. This one is cute.  The little bird goes up and down as you push the stick.  It will be a big hit I’m sure.

Jewel Butterfly Ornament.  Beyond the face being a touch creepy the rest of this is good.  There are lots of things to stick on to make a beautiful butterfly.

As noted last month all of these crafts are from Oriental Trading but since I don’t have to purchase them in large quantities off the site and everything we need to create is included in the bag, I like this. If you need glue or anything else that does not come in the prepackaged craft they make sure it’s in your bag so you really do not have to run to the store. It’s also nice that each of these crafts are fairly quick and we can do them in the short time between bath and bedtime.
