Dive Bar Shirt Club August 2015

Dive Bar Shirt Club is a monthly subscription that sends out a limited edition t-shirt from a random bar every month.  Each shirt is only available for that month and then that’s it.  Their tag line is “T-shirts from the best bars you’ve never heard of”. Shirts are $22 a month unless you need XXL or XXXL sizes then add $2.50 and $3.50 respectively. Shipping outside of the USA is $5.  They are just a reoccurring subscription so you can cancel anytime before the next payment is due.  This has been a great find as Hubby looks forward to this one every month.  This is our last one of these shirts and now Hubs is after me to find him another thing but there is a serious lack of subs for men if you don’t care to get the gamer or geek boxes.  There are some clothing/accessories boxes for men but they seem to be more for the urban professional not the regular joe.

This month we are headed to the Highlife Lounge in Des Moines, IA.  They are a bar that celebrates the beers of the past and food to match.  They have been featured on “Man vs. Food” , which is a great show and they share a location with a place called el Bait Shop.  The inside looks like it has stayed the same since 1984 and honestly seems like my kind of bar.  Less of a dive and more of retro awesomeness.

Unfortunately the shirt is horrible!!!  It’s a pale yellow that very few men ever wear.  If this had been the first shirt we received instead of the last, I don’t think we’d have ever got another month.

This has been a fun subscription.  It was one of the first I got and with the exception of this last one, all were well received.   Hubs has liked the shirts and even the ones we got almost a year ago are still in great shape and not fading or having the images peel off.  The quality has been great and the shirts have held up and not stretched or shrunk at all.  I would recommend them to anyone who wants a fun shirt from a wide range of places. This month takes us to The Rail Pub in Savannah, GA.  It looks like it was converted from a warehouse at one time.  It is near a place where guys used to wait to see if there was a day job for them with the railroad.  This place serves up some odd food, a Ghetto Dawg, which is a hotdog on a slice of white bread with a side of Fritos.  There is also the standard free peanuts.  Following in the odd style….they have a tradition called Rail Pants, where you just randomly drop your pants and pretend you didn’t and everyone else pretends not to see it.  I just don’t know about this place.

I do like the shirt though.  It has a very manly saying and is not offensive in any way.  I like the colour and the logo and just think it might be the best one yet.

Hubby only has one shirt to go before his year is up. He has liked the shirts and even the ones we got almost a year ago are still in great shape and not fading or having the images peel off.  The quality has been good and the shirts have held up and not stretched or shrunk at all.  I would recommend them to anyone who wants a fun shirt from a wide range of places. This month takes us to the Coach House in Scottsdale, AZ.  It seems to be your typical dark crowded interior but also has an outdoor patio for people watching while you drink your beers.  It says that it has held on to its original charm while all around it the places have converted to a more modern clientele.

20150619_161351 20150619_161408

The shirt has a small logo on the front and then the big one on the back.  It is in the vintage style fit again this month.  Hubby said he really likes this one.  I’m starting to notice that he wears these shirts in a rotation with only a few others thrown in so I guess all of them have been hits.

I only plan to get two more of these shirts before cancelling the plan.  We have enjoyed them and even the ones we got almost a year ago are still in great shape and not fading or having the images peel off.  The quality has been good and the shirts have held up and not stretched or shrunk at all.  I would recommend them to anyone who wants a fun shirt from a wide range of places.

This months postcard takes us to New Diggings General Store & Inn Tavern in Benton, WI.  It started out as a place for miners to get everything they needed and now serves up food and beer to the biker crowd.  It looks cramped and cluttered, which seems to be the hallmarks of a good dive bar.  It has live music on the weekends and a beer garden for those hot summer nights when you need a cool drink and some stars.

20150526_221418

The shirt is the vintage tee style again…Yay!!  It just has the logo on the front, the back is blank.  It  is a nice shirt and I like it.  Hubby was a bit peeved that they put the stuff on the front and not the back.  I don’t get it but I know he’ll still wear it.

We are winding down with this present for my husband and I’m not sure what I’ll do for gifts once this is done but he now wears these shirts all the time so I think I scored a win.

20150501_131433 20150501_131441

This months shirt is from Neumann’s Bar in North St.Paul, MN.  The bar is the oldest continuing bar in the state and during prohibition was a bait shop with a speakeasy upstairs.  They still have a tub of bullfrogs in the front window as a reminder of their past.

20150501_131347 20150501_131412

There is a small logo on the front and then the back has a vintage photo of the place.  This shirt is another of the vintage fit shirts that most of them have been and it is the prefered style of my Hubby.

This month marks another good one for the shirt and I with only five left before this one is done we are amasing a good collection of quality shirts.

I’m not sure why but I cannot get photos of this months postcard and shirt to work.  I tried taking them again and they still didn’t turn out so I’ll just tell you about it and hope for better next month.

Spotlighted this month is the Town Pump Tavern in Black Mountain, NC.  The shirt is a black vintage style tee with the logo of a water pump in white.  On the back is a smoking bison head.

The bar boasts live music, dancing and local breweries products promoted.  It looks like a great place and is one of the few I might actually want to visit.

20150226_180600 20150226_180614

This month we are visiting  Irish Haven in Brooklyn NY.  It looks just like I imagine all New York bars look like based off TV and books I’ve read……Scenes from the movie The Departed were filmed in here too, which just ups the cool factor.

20150226_180522

The shirt is maybe more suited to next month with St. Paddy’s Day but it is the first shirt we’ve received that has more then just white or black colours on it.  It’s made from the vintage cotton, which is our favourite type from them and as soon as it gets washed, Hubby plans to wear it.

Men are a bit under represented in the subscription boxes unless your guy is into nerd culture or you have more money to spend then I do.  I don’t need to get him a gift every month but I like to and there just hasn’t been to much else he would like.   I see that there is also now a guitar store of the month option if that’s more your man’s style.

We’ve been lucky in that every shirt so far has been a winner with my Hubby.

20150126_160122 20150126_160131

Each month includes a post card from the bar telling their story and some pictures of the place.  This month’s bar is Maury’s Place in Sutton, Nebraska.  It looks like a hole in the wall but less creepy then some of the bars they’ve showcased.

20150126_160220

I happen to really like this shirt.  It amuses me and it’s definitely fun.  This one is again a vintage tee style.  Only one of the shirts we’ve received so far hasn’t been, and that one attracts lint like you wouldn’t believe.  The vintage ones are super soft and have that faded worn in look.  All the types are good quality though, with minimal shrinkage.

This subscription has been a good find.  There are only a few subs out there for men and most are more then I’m willing to pay.  This one is affordable and even with the exchange not much more then you’d pay for a shirt in a store.

Dive Bar Shirt Club December 2014

One of my last remaining December boxes showed up today. This months bar definitely looks more like a dive then some of the others that we’ve been given a glimpse of.

20150102_142319 20150102_142332

This month we are learning a bit about MVP Happy Holler in Newton, IL.  It seems to have been patched together with bits of leftovers and tape.  It does boast the original stage from Farm Aid 1985, which is kind of cool but if I was driving around in need of a drink I wouldn’t stop here. It’s that creepy to me.

20150102_142440 20150102_142454

This is the first shirt we’ve received that has printing front and back.  A smoking pig is a good mascot for a bar I think. Hubby really likes the shirt and unlike last months which was a different material, this is back to the same as the others we’ve received.

Another winner for Hubby and an interesting story even if I never plan to visit.  If you want to sign up you can visit their website www.divebarshirtclub.com

Dive Bar Shirt Club November 2014

20141127_142921

This months bar is Tin & Lint in Saratoga Springs, NY. Hubby was home when this arrived today and when I held it up for him to see he really liked it.  I am not really feeling it but since I don’t have to wear it, it’s not a problem.

20141127_142933 20141127_142957

As always, there is a post card with pictures of the bar, inside and out, and a little blurb about the location and bar.

20141127_143007

This month we also got a bonus Dive Bar Shirt Club Beer Hunter bottle opener key chain.

Dive Bar Shirt Club is a great gift for that guy in your life that is hard to buy for.  It can be mailed anywhere to anyone.  The shirts have so far been good quality and have had minimal shrinking from washing.  They are a nice soft cotton.  If you want to check them out visit www.divebarshirtclub.com
