Love With Food Deluxe October 2016

Love With Food is a monthly subscription box that sends out organic, all-natural, or gluten free snacks.  They want to help you to “Snack smart and Do good.”  They donate a portion of their proceeds to organisations that help end child hunger.  They offer three box types but only two are available in Canada.  You can get the Deluxe box or the Gluten Free box, starting at $16.50 a month.  Shipping right now is $3.99 a month since they just opened up international shipping.  If you really like your coworkers they have an office box for $99.  You’ll get 16-20 snacks a month,  meals given to children, and points earned to redeem for boxes or snacks.  I love getting snacks in the mail and to find ones that won’t completely destroy my weight loss attempts is a good thing.  I’ve been watching this one for a while and was so glad they now ship to Canada.  Let’s open it up and see if the wait was worth it.

This review is very late, and that’s all on me.  The box came on time and I keep putting it off and putting it off and now I’m doing a review for an October box in January.  The box comes all wrapped in plastic and once I did get in it was packed full.

The don’t include an info card but there is a little card that talks about the monthly theme and lets you know about the shop.

Westminister Bakers Co. Whole Wheat Snack Crackers x 2

These are teeny tiny little crackers.  Each pack is 100 calories and made of whole grains.  These should be tasty with some cheese I think.

Brothers All Natural Fruit Crisps Fiji Apples x 2

These are obviously Halloween themed, which would make complete sense in an October box.  There are only 20 calories per bag so they are quite good for snacking.

Dick & Jane Educational Snacks x 2

These are a vanilla flavoured cookie that has the presidents of the USA on them.  The thought being that as you stuff your face you are learning things.  These have 130 calories per bag and hopefully they will be tasty.

Beanitos White Bean Chips x 2

There are two different flavours of these chips in the box, Sweet Chili & Sour Cream and Garden Fresh Salsa.  I think these are going to be great and make up for a craving of regular chips.  They are 100 calories per bag.

Divina Fig Spread x 2

I have no idea what you would do with this.  Is it like jam?  I like figs.  These are a mystery and one day I will be brave enough to give them a go.

Awake Energy Granola Bar

This is a Dark Chocolate Caramel caffeine and vitamin bar.  I’ve never tried the Awake bars before though I have seen them in my local stores. This will be saved for a day when I need some get up and go and don’t have time for anything substantial.

Walkers Shortbread

If you’ve been reading for a while you will know that I hate shortbread.  This is going straight to my Hubby and he can add it to his pile of shortbread from Christmas.

Everly Strawberry Lemonade Drink Mix

This is a great addition for me.  I am always looking for ways to get more water into my day and I just can’t do it by drinking plain water.  These are going to come to work with me and keep me going and away from the coffee shop!

Almond Roca

I’m eating this right now!  I rarely buy these and they only show up and Christmas anyways.  This will be the only one I had all season and I’m going to enjoy it.  If you don’t know, an Almond Roca is a toffee that has chocolate with it.  Delicious.

One Potato Two Potato Sweet Potato Chips

This bag is one of the higher calorie count items in the box at 300 calories for the whole thing.  They are just potatoes fried with salt on them.  I’m going to enjoy these too!  I don’t much care for mashed or baked sweet potatoes but I love them fried!

Lundberg Family Farms Rice Chips

This box is finishing off in a great way for me.  I love rice chips too!  These are sea salt and that is all they need to be delicious.  So happy right now!

Annie B’s Handmade Caramel x 2

There are two flavours included, Apple and Butter Rum.  Both sticks are soft and will stick to my teeth but I think they will be yummy.

My third box gave me even more of the things I love to eat.  I am so happy to be getting this box and finding snacks that are at least in the realm of better for me.  They have great shipping notices and the boxes come wrapped in plastic so no one can peek in and nab your snacks.

Esthoria Box December 2016

Esthoria Box is bi-monthly box that ships out either a Beauty box or a Lifestyle box.  The products included are green products and help to remove toxins and negative chemicals from your life.  The Beauty box is $89.00 and the Lifestyle is $29.00.  Both options have added shipping costs.  You can choose to pay per box, a six-month term, or a twelve-month term.  Prices are in Canadian dollars.  If you go with one of the longer terms you actually meet their free shipping threshold and so shipping is not charged.  I am alway happy to find a new Canadian box.  The Beauty box is out of my price range so I went with the Lifestyle one.  Time to see what they’ve sent out.

The box is medium sized and has the logo in teal on the cover.  It felt heavy for its size and I really didn’t know what to expect opening it up.  Inside was some wrapped items and a few that I could see.  There was not an info card in the box so I will be going blind into this one.

Clean Kiss Organics Linen Spray in Fresh Kisses-$10.00

This is a full sized bottle of linen spray.  It is scented with lavender, rosemary, and cedar essential oils.  It is a nice scent and I like it better than the Febreeze I currently use to freshen my linen cupboard.  The only ingredients in this are water and the oils.  They recommend you use this on your clothes right out of the dryer instead of dryer sheets to make them smell nice but I can’t see me doing that.  They also included a card with discounts if you wanted to order more things.  They offer a subscription shipping plan as well, right from the company.

Sapadilla Liquid Dish Soap in Grapefruit + Bergamot-$6.95

This is also a full sized bottle.  It might just be the best smelling dish soap I have ever smelled.  It uses natural ingredients to clean your dishes and has glycerin in it to keep your hands soft at the same time.  Even though we have a dishwasher, we still do one sink of dishes by hand every day so this is a useful and handy thing to have received.

Forever New Fashion Care Fabric Wash in Soft Scent-$5.95

This powder detergent is made with a citric base that does the cleaning.  Soft Scent seems to be lightly baby powder scented, which is a little odd for something that is made for grown up clothes.  This little bottle is good for ten washes in any type of machine you have.  Once again I cannot get the picture to go the right way…..I’m frustrated with this new method of posting they want us to use.

purEcosheet Dryer Sheets-$16.95

These work like a regular dryer sheet but they don’t have any perfume, dye, or chemicals in them.  They are reusable 500 times between the two of them included in the box.  They work by drawing the static into them and away from your clothes as they tumble around.  This would be an easy way to save money and the environment at the same time.

This box was good.  The four items have a value of $39.85.  All of the items are from Canadian companies, which is awesome.  This is one that I’m going to enjoy I think.  It fills the void in the Canadian market left by HouseBox shutting down.  Maybe in the future I’ll give the beaity box a go to see if it’s as good.

Super Geek Box November 2016

Super Geek Box is a monthly subscription that sends out Geek and Gamer gear.  You always get a shirt but everything else is up in the air.  You could get Funkos or Dorbz, keychains, posters, or stickers.  Every month has a theme that the items are based on so it changes up all the time.  Boxes start at $13.92 plus $13.00 shipping a month but go down with longer plans.  All plans automatically renew so you do need to be careful if you want to cancel.  I’ve resisted getting too deep into the geek boxes just because there are so many and trying to pick is pretty difficult.  All of them are really varied and from looking at past boxes I decided to give Super Geek Box a try.  This month’s theme is Immortal.

The box is stuffed full again this month.  They manage to fold the shirt so you have no idea what goodness awaits you.

The info card used to be folded in three but now it’s just in half.  On the back are images of people wearing last months shirt.  The other side has the items you will be receiving in this months box.  If there are options, they will all be listed for you.

They always send a button each month as well that symbolises the theme.

Marvel Deadpool Domez Collectible Series #2

I received Deadpool 1.  He’s cute and would be one of the 9 I’d hope for.  He might join me at work or if I ever get my craft room organized, he could hang out there too.

Harcos Lab Health Potion Energy Drink

This is an actual energy drink.  Complete with the warnings that it’s not for those under 12.  It doesn’t have a flavour on it that I could find but most of these things taste the same anyways.  I rarely drink them due to reacting quite dramatically on them and becoming hyper-focused on whatever the task at hand is.  Which I guess is the point but it freaks me out.  This will be saved for an emergency situation.

Titanfits SGB Exclusive Divine Force Bracelet

This is one of those things that I would never wear but the girls are always happy to get more “jewelry”. As you can see from the picture there are gold triangles on the blocks.

Nerdcred SGB Exclusive Invincibility Keychain

Now this one I like.  I’m all for anything that reminds me of SMB and this is great.  I’ve removed a few of my keychains lately so I have room to add this one to my collection.

SGB Exclusive Iron On Pocket

I cannot get this to rotate the right way, so sorry for the image.  I haven’t used any of the transfers they’ve sent yet but they can hang out in my sewing room and if I need to spice up something I’ll have them handy.

SGB Exclusive You B*st*rds! Decal

I don’t know when the last time I watched South Park but this is one of the best parts of it.  This brings back memories and that’s a good thing to have an item do.  I think this will grace a notebook.

SGB Exclusive Humble Roots T-Shirt

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy!!!!! This is one of the greatest shirts they have ever sent me.  I love Groot and how freaking cute is the baby Groot!!!!!! So, so, so, so happy to get this.

This month was pretty good overall.  There were lots of items from things I like and nothing that I’m really sad about. The big gamble with the geek boxes is if you get a theme for something you are not a fan of, the whole box can be a letdown.  Next month’s theme is Valor, and they are promising lots of goodies. I’m not sure if I’m getting it or not because my subscription is up with either this box or the next one. I guess we’ll see.

LookFantastic Beauty Box December 2016

Look Fantastic Beauty Box is a box from the UK and you will receive a minimum of six products.   Those products will be an assortment of skin, hair, cosmetic and body products.  There also are sometimes high value surprises added to a few boxes randomly.  They promise to have a much higher value than what you pay each month as well.  They have free worldwide delivery on the boxes or things you order from the website. Boxes are $26 a month but go down with 3,6 or 12 month subscriptions.  Shipping was pretty quick for overseas and I received tracking notices as well.  The stuff I’ve been getting in this box has been really nice.  This one was a find and I really enjoy it.  I had ended my subscription but with the exchange rate being better right now and the fact that I love this box I signed back up.

The box was lovely this month!  The snowflakes really make it festive and pretty.  Inside, they stuck with the regular black squiggles that get dust everywhere.

They include a copy of ElleUK every month.  I never look at it, just recycle it I can’t stand the 90% ads inside.

20161220_192855This is their mini mag that is a blend of the product card, tips, tricks, contests, lifestyle ideas, and catalogue.

20161220_193425Illamasqua Hydra Veil Primer-6mL $10.94

This primer is unlike any I’ve tried before.  It is more of a gel then anything else.  The little I applied to the back of my hand did seem to change the appearance a little, so I have high hopes for it.  They instructions say you don’t need very much so this should give me a few days at least.

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer-40mL $13.18

I received one of these in my advent calendars but I haven’t tried it out yet.  This is a pre-treatment for your hair.  It is supposed to add bounce, body, and volume.  I can use all of those things so I will have to start using this.  It says to use once a week so with two of them I should have at least a months worth here.

Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash-50mL $10.94

I really like the Balance Me line of items, so this is awesome.  It uses grapefruit oil to cleanse without stripping it of good things.  I’m very happy to get more of this.

Bubble T Bath Bomb

This is a hibiscus and acai berry tea bath bomb.  I love bath bombs and this one is nice and big.  I use one of these a week so any that I receive are welcome.

Skin Republic Caviar and CoQ10 Face Mask-$11.95

This is a sheet mask.  I think this is the first time I’ve received one of these from them.  This one is made to add moisture and protect from environmental aggressors, what ever those are.  I use a mask once a week as well so this will join the cue and get used up.

Mellow Cosmetics Madness Lipstick

This is a red, red, red lipstick.  I don’t know that it’ll get much wear because red is not my colour.  It is a matte lipstick and says it’ll be long lasting, which just from the fell of it I believe.

This month had a value of $47.01, plus the bath bomb and lipstick I couldn’t value. This month’s mix was great. The best part about LookFantastic  is that they have sales all the time and free worldwide shipping so if you want more of anything or find other things on their site it’s simple to get.  I’m really glad I went for them again and the new billing procedure is simpler than before so there are no worries there.  If you are looking for a beauty box to try, this would have to be my recommendation, hands down.

Real Soaps Soap Of The Month December 2016

Real Soaps is a company out of Chicago making handmade soaps and natural body care products.  They don’t use any sulfates, parabens, phthalates and are cruelty-free. They also have no dyes, preservatives, or artificial ingredients and only pure essential oils for scents.  I found them on Etsy but they also have a website.  You can buy individual soaps or they have six and twelve month plans starting at $47.00 and shipping to Canada was under $20 for the whole term.  I’m not sure why I’m on a soap kick lately but they are fun to get.

The soap comes wrapped in a box that tells you what month you are in and what the soap type is for the month.

This months soap is Evergreen.  This is a very Christmasy smelling soap.  It is almost strong enough for me to hide in the artificial tree we have and make it smell real.

I am always looking for bath type products and soap is such an easy way to shake up your routine.  I tend to not share these with my family but it I find a scent that is too strong or not to my liking then I give it to my hubby who is less picky.

My Christmas Crate November 2016

My Christmas Crate is a monthly box of items to celebrate the festive time of the year, all year long.  Boxes can include anything that might help bring back memories or feelings, such as home decor, culinary items, accessories, candles, kitchen items, and more.  Boxes are $29.95 a month and you will get 3-5 items.  I love Christmas and as soon as December starts I’m wearing Xmas gear and singing carols so this box is right up my alley.  I missed out on their first box that had an awesome mug in it but I’m hoping that there is equally great things in the boxes I do get.

This box is festive before you even get into it.  Once I did open it up there was not much I could see. I guess I’ll have to dig deeper.

They do have an info card in there.  It’s basic but does get the job done.  The front could be used as a print if you wanted.  The back has a list of the items and the websites to find them on.

Christmas Morning Pancake Mix-$8.95

Well let me tell you…..pancakes are a big hit in our house.  This mix requires only the addition of an egg and some milk.  It says it can serve eight but I”m not sure how many pancakes that translates to.  I think having the whisk on there as well is a cute touch.  I don’t think this will make it until Christmas morning but that’s okay.

Vintage Wooden Ornament-$?

The website for this company doesn’t have pricing because they sell to retailers only.  This is a lovely ornament.  It is a bit to large and heavy to hang on the tree but will make a lovely addition to a door or my cubical.

Gingerbread Pecan Peanut Brittle-$6.00

This is something that I think will be good.  I only like a small amount of brittle at a time so this will get shared with everyone.

Ultra Cozy Santa Socks-$5.00

These are from My Christmas Crate and they are super fuzzy.  I have recently had a run of bad luck with my Xmas socks getting holes in them and having to toss them so these arrived at a great time.

Peanuts Good Grief Cafe Charlie Brown Vanilla Cocoa-$1.59

Ooohhh.  I like this one.  These packets are great for work since I can get hot water for free and have a nice cup of hot chocolate.  I’ve never seen this brand before but I have never found one I don’t like.

Holiday Specs-$1.65

OMG!!!! These are so freaking cool!  Once you put them on and look at points of light, such as your Xmas tree lights, it makes every one into a candy cane!  These make me happier than they should.

I am very happy with My Christmas Crate.  There was a good mix of items from all categories.  My favourite item this month is the glasses.  If you sign up for their newsletter you can get 10% off your purchases.  I only got this one for a few months but I think it might become one of my favorite boxes yet.

Loves It Newfoundland Box November 2016

Loves It is a box of Newfoundland sourced, hand crafted, home made items.  They are proudly sending out boxes of items they purchase from those local suppliers so that they can show off the greatness of their artists, crafters, and businesses.  They offer both a Standard or a Premium box and monthly or quarterly subscriptions.  Boxes start at $35.00 a month but do go down with longer plans.  There will be 4-7 items per box and they say they will range in value from $40-$75.  I am always on the lookout for Canadian boxes and so while I’m not from Newfoundland nor have I ever been there I was still interested in this box.

I was happy to see the warning was back on the box this month.  Opening it up, there was no print on top but a toque I’d have been pissed to cut up.

Froze Ta Det Toque by Figgyduff Dory-$24.00

This toque is sold out on the website but I’m happy to have received one. I don’t speak Newfie but I can understand most of it and this one is rather self explanatory.  I love that they included the one with a pom pom as there is a plain option as well.  Good start to the box.

No Place Like Home Soap-$7.00

This is a partridgeberry and bakeapple soap.  I have no clue what either of those are but it smells amazing.  It is a shea butter soap and I will be putting this at the top of my to use pile. This is actually a duplicate from last months box for me.  It’s not the first time they’ve done that and I’ve emailed them about it, with no response.  It’s a good thing I like this soap.

Indigena Smooth Lip Balm-$4.99

This balm feels so nice!  It is made with Canadian beeswax and sweet orange oil.  I seem to be getting less balms lately so I like to see new ones and Canadian ones at that.  This is also a duplicate from last month.  It is awesome though and makes my lips super soft.

Tuck’s Bee Better Honey-56g $?

This farm doesn’t have a website so I can’t find a value on this jar of honey.  It is a beautiful dark amber and will make my tea so much better!  It is unpasteurized and delicious I’m sure.

June’s Jams & Jellies Blueberry Jam-$4.00

I love when this box sends me food!  The last jam I got from them is almost gone and as I never think to buy blueberry jam I’m excited to open this one.  I love that this is not a giant corporation pumping it out either.  Someone maybe making this in a kitchen or on a small scale production and that makes it taste better in my opinion.

This was my ninth box from Loves It and as normal, I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. Value is always hard for this box as I don’t always know where things are from, but this one I was able to find most of it, giving me a value of $39.99 plus the honey. I am sad that two of the items are repeats from the month before.  At least if they’d skipped a couple it would be better.   If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.

Little Life Box January 2016

Little Life Box is a monthly shipment of items that help you to try out items so you can try out healthier or alternative versions of things you use or eat everyday.  You will get up to a dozen items each month and they promise to never ship you the same item twice, though you may get a different flavour of the same item.  They are a Canadian company as well so that’s nice too.  Subscriptions will run you  $19.95 a month or less with longer plans.  They offer a purely Vegan option as well.  I went with their original box since I don’t have a preference towards vegan items. I have found that these boxes are stuffed full!

I was a bit surprised at how light the box was this month.  I picked it up and thought that maybe it had been opened and stuff fell out.  I could see that it was still packed to the top but I guess everything was light in there.  I do miss the post card they used to send.  Now the card just tells you to share your box online.

This was my first look at what was under the paper.

Deep River Snacks Original Salted Kettle Cooked Potato Chips-28g $0.49

I love chips and rarely get to snack on them anymore.  These ones are gluten free and kosher.  They use non-GMO ingredients and have no preservatives, trans fat, MSG, or cholesterol.  They also support various charities based on which flavour you buy.

Elan Banana Chips-135g $2.99

This is the third different item from this brand I’ve received and all have been very good.  These are organic and GMO and gluten free.  I don’t eat banana chips all that often but now that they are in the house I will grab a handful when I need a snack or something crunchy.

Feast Bar-40g

This is a chocolate bar with fruit and nuts.  It also magically is high in fibre and low sodium.  It has no trans fats or cholestreol and no processed sugars.  The whole bar is actually under 200 calories as well which is a bit of a surprise.  I love fruit and nut bars and so I am hiding this until I can find some alone time to scarf it down.

Neolia Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Lotion-10mL $0.15 x 3

I am very happy that they included shampoo and conditioner.  I don’t even care that the samples are packets, being able to try both at once is just so much better then only getting the shampoo.  They all are made from olive oil and are organic.

BioCell Collagen Capsules-2pk $0.67 x 2

These are joint and skin health pills that help you to maintain healthy skin.  They also help with osteoarthritis pain.  I don’t have that yet but a little added collagen in my joints will not be a bad thing.

Wild Hibiscus Flower Co. Tea-$0.35 x 2

I received Heart-tee and Blue-tee and they seem interesting.  The blue one has instructions on how to have it including how to make it change colour for you. They are herbal teas made with hibiscus and butterfly pea flower.  I love a good cup of tea and have at least one a day so I’m never sad to see more in a box.

Three Farmers Roasted Chickpeas-25g $1.04

These are BBQ flavour and while I do eat chickpeas normally I have found that these roasted ones are delicious.  I have not have the BBQ flavour but I expect them to be a great snack to get me through a day when I want chips or something else crunchy.  These are nut and gluten free and higher in protein and fibre.

Montagne Jeunesse Anti Stress Sauna Masque-15g $1.99

This face mask is self heating to open and cleanse your pores.  It has red clay and plant extracts.  It is also vegetarian approved, though I’m not too sure what that means.  I’ll add it to my pile of masks and use it up when it becomes it’s turn.

Organic India Tulsi Tea-18 bags $14.03

Yay! More tea!  I don’t think I’ve ever had holy basil tea before but peppermint tea is a favourite.  This tea is organic and like almost all herbal teas, caffeine free. This brand is sustainably farmed by small farmers, which is always nice to see.

20160113_204607 20160113_204629

Radius Floss Sachets-20pk $2.99 x 2

The ones I got were the organic silk variety but the pamphlet also shows mint and cranberry ones too.  These are made of spun candelilla plant wax.  I have no clue……  They are free from sweeteners, preservatives, artificial colours and flavours, synthetic wax, gluten, yeast, parabens, phthalates, BPA, GMO and additives.  To make them even more hippy the box is recycled cardboard and paper and totally recyclable and biodegradable.

Viva Bath-2g

This bath powder helps to return your bathwater to a neutral ph so that you don’t absorb the chemicals added to your tap water that make it safe for consumption but harsh on your skin.  It also is supposed to help reduce stress and skin conditions.  I’ll add it to my bath next time but since it says you should not use any other soaps or cleansers while you are using it that sorta defeats the purpose of a bath.

This month’s  box had 16 samples in it.  The site is back up to normal with pricing or links to where to buy items so I was able to work out that the value is $29.01, which a bit low but not too horrible. I like this box and have found a bunch of things I would never have bought that either work really well or taste good.  I tended to dismiss most products like this out of hand as not good or too tree huggerish so I’m pleasantly surprised with the items.  I think this will be my last box from them and while I’m not going to renew this subscription I did enjoy it and was really surprised how many of the items I used and liked.

So…..January Has Been Slow

Hello everyone!  I hope you’ve all recovered from the holidays and that you got to spend some time with people who mean something to you.  I was going to say family but then I realised that for some, family is not who we would choose to hang out with voluntarily.  We had family from both sides down for a few days and it was great!  The girls had a blast and even though we are back to regular life again Bug is still asking when we can put the Christmas tree back up.  She also asks when Winter will be over and is not to happy when I say about 100 sleeps.  Yesterday Bug had to go to the hospital for an ABR with anesthetic.  If you don’t know that is an Automatic Brain Response test.  She had been tested for her hearing since birth, as is standard now, and has always just missed passing those tests.  SInce I have hearing loss as well they decided to do this test just to rule out any serious issues.  The scary part of course is that she has to be put under for the test to be done.  We have been very lucky in that both of our girls have had no serious medical issues so this was the first big thing we’ve had to go to the hospital for.  Thankfully everything  went well and the tests were normal so Bug is back at school today and probably telling everyone that she got 2 popsicles and a ride in a bed with wheels!  I asked her if there was any part of the day that was bad, considering we were there for 8.5 hours, and she said no, it was all fun and good.  I think that says a lot about the nurses and doctors that we interacted with and even those that were just walking by but gave her a wave or a quick chat.  I know there are times when our medical system doesn’t work smoothly or the wait times can be long but I have yet to leave the hospital after something for myself and now the kids without being grateful to the staff and the system.

In box news, there has been none.  As you might have noticed from the lack of posts.  I have received three boxes so far this month and that leaves 12 to arrive.  Hopefully this week I will get LookFantastic, Little Life Box, and Topbox. I do have a couple of new boxes I signed up for to come but since I’ve never received them before I don’t know if they are a middle of the month one or closer to the end.  I’m starting to get amil withdrawal!  Having done a bunch of my Christmas shopping online, not getting something everyday in December has spoiled me for mail delivery.  I’m sure my mailman is happier without the load but I’m really hoping for something soon!

Take Care All!!
