Another Day in the Snow

It is a cold and snowy one here today.  We are under a winter storm warning and have definitely got the snow that they predicted but it’s only starting to get cold.  We are expected to reach -26 Celsius by Sunday, plus a windchill on top.  Pretty normal for February in Saskatchewan.

The Hubs bought this ridiculous pillow, called a Yogibo.  It’s basically a giant beanbag and it has caused war in our house.  The kids have taken to using it as a landing pad for when they launch off the couch.  They love playing with it but we are terrified that it’s going to explode and there will be pellets everywhere.  This leads to an outstanding amount of yelling to STOP JUMPING ON THE PILLOW!!!

Today for supper we are going to have Just Chicken Soup from the Company’s Coming cookbook.  It’s like regular chicken soup but you blend all the veggies up and have the chicken and noodles left whole.  It’s a new recipe for us so we’ll see how it turns out.

Not too much else to talk about today.  I have something I want to share but it’s a lot more personal than I’ve been on the blog before and I’m scared to share.  Maybe soon I’ll work up the courage.

I’m Still Around!

It’s been a while since I posted.  I’ve had some issues with the blog and can’t post pictures anymore so that kinda derailed what I had been doing on the blog.  I also get WAY fewer boxes now so there isn’t that much to write about from that standpoint.

It’s a freezing day here, minus 30 plus a windchill on top of that.  They cancelled all the buses for school but not school itself so we had to run out a few times to get Bug and Bear to and from but that’s the extent of our travels today.

We are looking to get a new dishwasher, any suggestions for a brand?  My only requirement is that it is white to match the rest of the appliances.  I haven’t given it much thought beyond that.

Well, I guess that is enough rambling for today, hope you’re keeping warm wherever you are!

5amily Mug Review

Sometimes you need a gift for that hard to buy for friend or family member.  5amily has you covered for all of them.  They specialize in personalized items and have ones for everyone.  The can set you up with items that are sports related, family related, or about your pets, hobbies and school themes.  You can get clothes, mugs, bags, or phone cases. Most items seem to have instant discounts applied so you can save money on your purchases as well.

I was sent the To Save Time Let’s Assume (Name) Is Always Right Mug to try them out.

Getting my name put on the mug took minutes and there was a preview so I could see it as it would show up beforehand.  The ordering process took less than 10 minutes and was so simple.  Shipping rates vary based on your location and what you are ordering.

iBeauty Box April 2018

iBeauty Box is a monthly box that sends you an assortment of cosmetics, skin care, lifestyle items.  They include full size and sample size products from brands you know and ones to discover.  You could get anything from nail care, hair care, skincare, jewelry, or candles to makeup.  I’ve been in the market for more of the beauty boxes that drew me into this for a while so when I saw this one I thought I’d give it a try.  Boxes start at $24.99 a month and go down very slightly if you subscribe for a longer term.  Shipping to Canada is included in that price.

They ship in a blue CrateJoy box with their label as a sticker on one side.  Inside I found everything packed in with squiggles to cushion it.

They have an info card included that tells you the products you received plus the value of those items.  It’s nothing fancy but it does the job it needs to.

Heartbeat Necklace-$29.00

I actually really like this necklace but feel that the price they have listed for it is high.  It has a tag on it that looks really cheap and like you might find this in the dollar store.  That being said I will wear it because I think it’s cool and just hope that it won’t turn my skin green.

Essential Tools Powder Brush-$7.99

This brush is awesome!  The bristles are super soft and will be great for spreading powder evenly.  I’m not normally a huge fan of getting brushes in boxes because I don’t replace them as often as they tend to arrive but this one I’m happy about.

TonyMoly I’m Real Facial Sheet Mask-$9.99

TonyMoly is a brand I love and I’m always happy to get anything in a box from it.  This is an aloe moisturizing sheet mask.  I never used to use sheet masks before I got into boxes but now they are my go to.  You can pop one on and still go about your day while it does its magic.

Menow True Lips Lip Liner Pencil in 050-$5.99

This lip liner is in a medium pink shade that will go really well with lots of different lipsticks.  I don’t wear lip liners all that often anymore but sometimes you need the added staying power that liner can give you.  This is an old-school pencil liner, no twist ups here.

Fashion Pen-$6.99

This is another item I think is overvalued.  It is very Spring-like and writes well though.

Jot Notebook-$8.99

I guess they are going heavy on the lifestyle aspect of the box this month.  This is a notebook and pen combo, not quite what you would expect in a beauty box.  It will be useful but I’d rather have received some more actual makeup.

The bonus samples this month are Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, (which I love!) and Face It Magic COver BB Cream.

I am rather surprised at the items I got in the box this month.  It wasn’t so much a beauty box and that is what I am hoping to receive.  The brush and the mask are great and it’s nice to get the bonus samples.  The value of the box this month is $68.95 plus sample packets.  I think that’s highly inflated and a bit of a letdown.  If you want to check out iBeauty Box or any other boxes on CrateJoy click here and start your search.

Teardrop Storm Glass Weather Forecaster Home Decor Review

Feriwola has a large selection of home decor items to add character to your house.  Included in that is this teardrop weather forecaster.

This is a glass figure with some type of chemical substance inside it that reacts to the weather pressure changes. This results in the crystals changing shape. It comes with instructions that let you know what each type means.

I have to be honest it has not changed at all since I got it so I’m not sure how well it does it’s job but it is pretty and looks nice on the bookcase. If you want one yu can get it here,

I received this product at a discount for review but all opinions are my own.

Feriwola Men’s Watch Reveiw

Disclaimer: I received this product for a discount but all opinions are my own.

My husband is not much of a watch guy but there are occasions when he does want to have the ease of not pulling out his phone to check the time.  After a quick browse around the Feriwola site, I found this one to give a try for him.

It came in this plastic wrapper, wrapped up in foam padding, and in a plastic bag mailer.  Shipping was reasonable and it made it here in under 3 weeks!

The watch features an oversized face with a couple of springs for that extra manly look.  There were no instructions included in the packaging but it’s just one knob to set, same as any other watch.  The strap is silicone and it uses quartz movement in the dial.

As you can see my husband has fairly small wrists but it still looks good and worst case scenario he can use it as a weapon since the face is pretty heavy.  It’s not going to last forever but as a fashion watch, it’ll be good enough to make it to out of style. You can get yours here.

Botanic + Terre July/August 2017

Botanic + Terre is a bi-monthly box that ships out a Beauty box. This box used to be called Esthoria Box and had a beauty or home offering and now it is only the beauty.  They send out cruelty-free and natural products to encourage holistic care.  Boxes start at $44.99 bi-monthly and there are 3 and 6 box options as well.  I’ve had a bit of an issue with this box since it switched over but I think we have it straightened out now.  The customer service was good but unfortunately, I did not end up with the resolution I felt was right but we did come to a fair option.

The box arrived safely, though once again there is not an info card or any other form of me knowing what will be in here.  The packing shreds kept everything a secret in this first look.

Yarok Feed Your Ends Leave-In Conditioner-$20.40

I had received a smaller bottle of this a while ago and really enjoyed it.  It works great as a leave-in conditioner and I enjoy the way it makes my hair feel.  It works well as a detangler and I can use it on my girls as well without worry.  This is a win in the box for me.

Graydon Face Foam-$25.00

This foaming cleanser uses apple cider vinegar, bamboo, and willow bark to gently soothe and clean the skin.  I like foam cleansers, they are fun to pump out and then they always feel so soft and nice on the skin.  This one is good to use on any skin type and is unscented as well.

Henne Luxury Lip Tint in Coral-$21.00

I got to choose the shade of this item that I wanted to receive.  I’m really happy with the one I chose.  It is a soft coral colour that gives my lips a slight shimmer and a hint of colour.  It feels great on my lips and I will be wearing this often this Fall.

RMS Beauty The Ultimate Makeup Remover Wipe-$1.00 x 5

This is a new brand to me but I love makeup wipes and the fact that these are individual packets makes them better!  I don’t use a wipe every day so by the time I get to the end of a regular package of wipes they are getting dried out.  This cannot happen this way.  These are made with coconut oil and can be used on any skin type.  They are safe to use on just shaved skin and remove even waterproof makeup.

This is going to be my last box from them as they are not honouring the plan I signed up for.  They feel that since they discontinued the original box and that this one is a more expensive one that they took what was left from my purchase and converted it to this value.  That means that  I will not be able to get the 6 boxes I had expected.  I am not happy with this as there was no notification that they were discontinuing the House box and no notifications that my plan was being adjusted or switched to the Beauty Box.

Love With Food Deluxe February 2017

Love With Food is a monthly subscription box that sends out organic, all-natural, or gluten free snacks.  They want to help you to “Snack smart and Do good.”  They donate a portion of their proceeds to organisations that help end child hunger.  They offer three box types but only two are available in Canada.  You can get the Deluxe box or the Gluten Free box, starting at $16.50 a month.  Shipping right now is $3.99 a month since they just opened up international shipping.  If you really like your coworkers they have an office box for $99.  You’ll get 16-20 snacks a month,  meals given to children, and points earned to redeem for boxes or snacks.  I love getting snacks in the mail and to find ones that won’t completely destroy my weight loss attempts is a good thing.  I’ve been watching this one for a while and was so glad they now ship to Canada.  Let’s open it up and see if the wait was worth it.

The box was nice and full again.  The other bonus is that I am FINALLY caught up on these boxes and don’t have one waiting in the wings to be put up on the blog.  So excited.

The card included gives you the theme for the month, Follow Your Heart.  It’s all about doing things that keep you motivated and giving into courage and strength to try new things.

20170213_140657Annie Chun’s Original Seaweed Crisps

These look interesting.  They have a rice chip on one side and seaweed on the other.  I eat rice chips all the time and I eat seaweed in sushi so I think I’ll like these.  They have a light seasoning of salt, which can only be good.  They are also vegan, gluten free, and cholesterol free.

20170213_140705Blue Diamond Mini Nut-Thins

I wish this was a bigger bag!  These are a mix of almond and rice baked into a cracker.  They have a touch of salt on them.  They are wheat and gluten free.

20170213_140713Laughing Giraffe Organics Lemon Snakaroon

I like anything coconut and I like macaroons so I think this little ball is going to be delicious.  It covers many dietary options as it’s vegan, non-GMO, organic, and gluten-free.

20170213_140723Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle

They sent two bags of this and I’m happy to give them a go.  These are salted caramel with dark chocolate drizzle.  They seem like they are going to be a very thin crunchy brownie with deliciousness on top.  Let’s hope so.

20170213_140733Hagensborg Chocolates Truffle Pig

They sent two flavours of this one, Dark Peppermint and Milk Caramel.  Truffles are not something I would normally seek out but I will try one of these and if I don’t like them then I can give the other to Hubby.

20170213_140740Heavenly Organics Mint Chocolate Honey Patties

I have no clue how they make this with only honey, chocolate, and peppermint oil.  Shouldn’t there be more things to hold it together???  Due to this, they are gluten, dairy, and soy free.

20170213_140809Iwon! Nutrition Protein Chips

It’s hard to tell but I think these are like a tortilla chip.  They are cinnamon french toast flavour, and I’m not sure that will be very good.

20170213_140817Watusee Foods Organic Chckpeastos

I do like roasted chickpeas but this is not a flavour I would ever eat.  I’m not sure what I’ll do with these since my husband and kids won’t eat them either.

20170213_140825Belgian Boys Mini Cookie Stash

Who doesn’t want to eat little moustaches?????  I cannot remember what speculoos tastes like but I don’t think the Belgian’s do desserts bad, ever!

20170213_140834Pretzel Perfection Twice-Baked Pretzel Sticks

YAY!!!! I love the salty goodness of pretzels and I don’t think these will be that spicy.  The whole bag is only 110 calories and they are gluten free.

20170213_140841Snikiddy Baked Mac n’Cheese Puffs

I honestly do not know what to make of these.  Why would I want to eat crunchy macaroni?  Getting past that these are made with non-GMO corn and rice, they have no corn syrup, and are certified gluten and wheat free.  I think these will go to the girls because I fell they will be not to my taste.

20170213_140859Yum Earth Organic Lollipops

They sent an assortment of flavours of these pops.We have Watermelon Wet-Face, Googly Grape, Blueberry Tooberry, Strawberry Smash, and Pomegranate Pucker.  They are creative with the names if nothing else.  I don’t eat these very often so these will go straight into the girls treat bag.

I am so happy to be getting this box and finding snacks that are at least in the realm of better for me.  They have great shipping notices and the boxes come wrapped in plastic so no one can peek in and nab your snacks.  I’m also glad to be caught up in my reviews!

The Penalty Box January 2017

The Penalty Box is a monthly subscription that sends out items for hockey players.  They promise to include basic items, skills training, performance wear, and deals.  They offer two different plans, The Minor Leaguer and The Penalty Box.  Whichever one you choose, you then get to pick from three age levels, Age 13 and Under, 13+, and Beer Leaguer, which determines the items that will be in your box.  Prices start at $29.99 a month and go up from there.  They also do a Grab Bag for $21.99 a month that is a mix of anything. They have an online shop that sells some items individually as well.  My Hubby has been after me for a while to find him a box and one that is hockey related to boot.  That has been impossible until this one so let’s see if we can make him happy with whatever is inside. I also want to mention that I only know things about hockey that have been absorbed by osmosis so if I’m wildly off in describing something, that’s why.

The box was very full and they included a card this month instead of the paper like last time.

On the front of the card is a story about a tragedy that occurred, killing two young hockey players.  It goes on to state that one of the items in the box is a tribute to them.  O the back is this list of possible box inclusions.

20170125_173658Assorted Howie’s Hockey Tape-$7.00 (black) $5.00 (maroon)

The maroon tape is the item that was included to honour the boys.  It is the colour of their team and they hope you’ll use it in solidarity.  It just so happens that my Hubby’s team colours are also that so this is actually a great roll for him.  The black roll is friction tape.  It is tacky on both sides so you can have better puck control as you play.

20170125_173738AR Hockey Wrist Guards-$30.00?

These are terry cloth bands with molded plastic inserts so your wrist stays protected.  I took the pricing of Amazon for these since the actual site is wholesale only and don’t have any pricing.  I don’t know if Hubby uses these or not when he plays but it seems like a useful thing to include.

20170125_173709Toe Tape-It-$5.99

For some reason, I think these are the things this month that Hubby really wants to get his hands on.  He normally uses regular stick tape bent over the end but these replace that by fitting right onto the curve.

20170125_173725Tough Terrys Blade Protectors-$9.99

These seem to come in many different colours and this would be on of the last I would pick.  They are reinforced with polypropylene inside and out and terry cloth on the sides.  They are made to protect your skate blade while also wicking away the moisture.

20170125_173613Howies Koozie-$5.00

I’m thinking this will have a home in the locker room for after games.  I personally love the Howies logo and think he’s adorable.

20170125_173632Sklz Reaction Ball-$15.99

This is really made for baseball players.  It has all those bumps that make the bounces unpredictable.  It does say that it’s good for training for all sports.  They seem to throw in one item a month that has nothing to do with hockey but I don’t mind.

20170125_173622Hockey Equipment Deodorizers-$8.00

These are not on the info card but they are my personal favourite item in the box.  I’m lucky that my Hubby is very conscious about washing his gear so it doesn’t smell.  That being said we still have a bunch of gear in our basement and I will tuck these into it myself if he doesn’t.  They have a mint scent to them.

Biosteel High-Performance Sports Mix-$1.33 x 2

These drink powders are sugar, caffeine, and gluten free.  They provide energy and reduce muscle and mental fatigue.  I find it amusing that they attached the tubes to the card with hockey tape.  These guys are all hockey all the time.

I wasn’t sure what types of things this box would send out and whether or not my hubby would like it.  Turns out, this is everything he could want in a hockey box.  It gave him a bunch of useful items that he would be buying anyways, plus some things that are helpful to his game.  This box had a value of $89.63, which is higher than I paid for the box but I’m not sure if the price on the guards is right.  I have a few more months to go and then we’ll see if we renew.  I know Hubs is thrilled and wants it to be one we keep so we might have to work out a deal where I get back rubs or something.  If you want to check them out visit

The Crafty Mail Winter Wonderland January 2017

The Crafty Mail is an Etsy shop that sells planner clips and glitter dipped tumblers.  They also put together a subscription box of items from themselves and other sellers, which is what I went with.  Boxes can be pre-ordered a few month in advance and you’ll know the theme before you buy.  Boxes are $38.47CAD a month or go down quite a bit if you buy more than one at a time.  Shipping is included in the price.  I used to get a similar box a while ago that had a different mix of items and liked it so decided to give this one a try.  The nice thing about boxes like this is that not all of the companies will ship to Canada so you’d never get to have their products any other way.  This month is Winter Wonderland.

The box had a pretty paper on the top and something wrapped up in bubble wrap inside.  It blocked most of the view so things are still a surprise.

20170203_193231There is a sheet of paper with the theme and item suppliers on it.  On the bottom this month was a note that the box was smaller than normal so they were adding on next months box at no charge.  I was happy to hear that as this should have been my last box and I enjoy it.

20170203_193310Winter Wonderland Herbal Tea by Kiper’s Lil Tea Shop-$2.08

This months tea blend is a mix of green and vanilla rooibos, cinnamon, and cacao nibs.  I do not really like rooibos tea very much but maybe this will be the mix that changes my mind.  They do have good tea at this shop and I will probably drink this in the next few nights.

20170203_193415Coffee Mug by The Crafty Mail-$14.27

This is a great mug!  I love the snowflake accents, it just adds to the whole thing.  This is the type of thing that the site you get this whole box from sells and I have liked most of them that I’ve received.

20170203_193323Hair Clip by Crochet Cadeaux-$?

This little barrette is not on the website so I can’t get a price.  It has a sparkly flower glued on it and the girls will more than likely fight over who get to wear it.

20170203_193341Planner Stickers by Crafty Beautee-$1.85

These planner stickers are my second favourite part of the box.  I use them in my planner and they give it just a little bit more zhuzh and keep me consistent in using it.

This month was back to being great.  There were only four items this month and so it makes sense that they would offer the extra one.  It all fits into the theme really well and I like all the planner items.  The products had a value of $18.20, using the prices from the Etsy shop. I enjoy these mixed boxes a lot and am looking forward to one more.
