Unicorn Dream Box May 2018

Unicorn Dream Box is a monthly subscription that will help to satisfy any cravings you may have for all things unicorn.  They will send out a mix of makeup, stationery, decor, and accessories.  There will also be a treat in there.  They offer two different sizes of box, Dream Mail that will send 3-4 items and the Dream Box that sends out 6-9 items.  Boxes start at $19.95 and do go down with longer plans.  There is an additional shipping charge to Canada.  I happen to love unicorns so getting this box was a bit of a no-brainer for me.

20180615_195645

The bright rainbow wrapping is back this month holding all of the lovely surprises.  There is not an info card this month, I hope that’s not going to be the new normal.

20180615_195710

First out of the bag was this glorious unicorn stuffy!  She is baby pink and has a purple shimmery horn.  I should probably give this to one of my children but that is not going to happen.  She makes me happy.

20180615_195809

These are three pastel unicorn crayons.  These are also pretty awesome but I have less of an issue letting the girl have these to use.  I don’t do much colouring and these should be used, not just sit on a shelf and get hard and useless.

20180615_195823

This lovely thing is a Clarifying Face Mask with a unicorn pattern printed on it.  That way you can become a unicorn while you are making yourself more beautiful.  I love these character masks, they are so much fun!

20180615_195845

This is a day planner.  Inside it is broken into weeks but they left blank so you can decide when you want to start the calendar.  It is very cute and I might have to put it to use once the one I am using right now.

There are two sheets of stickers that came in the bag.  Both of these can be used in the planner and will be!

20180615_195904

Lastly, we have the candy that they promise to include.  We have a gummy rainbow and a rainbow candy stick.  Both fun and delicious!

This box is even greater than I was hoping it would be.  I love the items in it and the mix of things was perfect.  The box is just fun and whimsical and will give me a good blast of unicorn for the few months I receive it.  If you want to get your own bit of unicorns click here to go to CrateJoy and search them out.

Teacher’s Black Box August 2017

Teacher’s  Black Box is a box of items which will include “basic and innovative supplies to enhance their educational impact”.  Now I am not a teacher but if you put a chance to get stationery in front of me, there’s only a small chance I’ll turn it down.  They also say there will be a snack in every box.  Boxes start at $20.00 but go down with longer terms.  Normally the shipping on this one would have stopped me from ordering but they were offering a promo code “ONETIME” that gave you free shipping on orders over $50.  That code is still valid so make sure you use it if you want to sign up.  Let’s see what joy they have delivered to me today.

20170906_165637

The box showed up in its standard form this time.  It’s been a few months since we’ve actually seen the black box.  It was packed pretty fully and nothing shifted around during shipping.

This is the second time they’ve sent me a mini glue gun and glue sticks but I’m not upset about it.  This is a good thing to have on hand and with two kids in the house, I’m thinking in a few years I’ll be needing both of them at once.  I also feel it’s good that they send the glue along.  They don’t have to but it means I don’t need to do anything besides plug this in and I can be a gluing machine!

20170906_165723

Next out of the box was this pack of index cards.  While I have zero practical use for these, my inner stationery lover is doing jumping jacks. I cannot rationally explain why these things make me so happy but they do.  I love them and I want all of them.

Have I mentioned I had boring pens and pencils?  These are both items I would never choose to use but with two kids who have many years of school to come I know we will have a use for these and they will end up being used by those with less discerning tastes.

20170906_165751

Next, we have a package of clear thumb tacks.  These would be very useful if I was actually a teacher.  I don’t have that many things to tack up in my cubical so I will leave these at home and use them for whatever we come up with.

20170906_165825

This is a roll of double sided mounting tape.  I think I might already have a roll of this somewhere but it’s one of those things you never need until you REALLY need it.  I like that it is the slightly thicker one instead of the one that is just tape thickness if you know what I mean.  It’s easier to work with and doesn’t ball up in a mess on you.

20170906_165832

I take all my dry erase markers to work and guard them with my life.  The ones we have in the meeting rooms are always super low on ink and should be thrown out but since there is not a replacement near by they just stay in there.  I bring my own and then take them away with me because I’m evil like that.  These ones are cool because the barrels are clear so you can see how much is left.

20170906_165859

Lastly in the box was a stapler. It came with a few thousand staples as well, I just didn’t take their picture.  They have sent me out one of these before but having more than one stapler in the house is hardly a bad idea.  This is a standard stapler and it works great for what we’ll use it for.

20170906_165913

They did remember the snack this month.  It’s a gummy fruit snack and I will eat this later this evening.

This month was great for me.   Normally a few of the things are really great and a couple are not for me, but that’s only because I’m not a teacher.  I can see how these things would be useful for a teacher and they also work well for those of us who love these things.  There was a treat this time.  You can find this box on CrateJoy if you are interested.

Teacher’s Black Box July 2017

This was definitely not the normal box that this shows up in.  Opening it up still left me wondering what on Earth had shown up at my house.  There was no card this month to help me out.

So the big box in there is a Thermal Laminator.  I can honestly say that I have never in any thought of the boxes I might get one of these.  I thrilled though!  I have ended up using the one at work occasionally and now I won’t have to.

20170726_173731

In a stroke of great thinking, they also gave me ten laminating sheets.  There are a few that come with the machine but it’s good to have more.  It should be easy to find ways to use these up and they are readily available at office supply stores for when I need more.

This is very cool.  It’s a Waterproof Bag for your phone.  It does have clear instructions to test it with a tissue first before you trust it, which is probably a good idea.  I have never had a need for this before but I can see myself using it in the future just because I have it.

20170726_173919

Lastly, we have the snack.  Scooby-Snacks this month.  Yay!

Teacher’s Black Box June 2017

20170627_182436

This time instead of the normal black box, a bubble envelope showed up.

20170627_182530

There is a little paper that tells us that the items in this months box are designed to let you enjoy summer vacation.  Since the box is for teachers, that makes perfect sense.

20170627_182542

Fidget Spinner

I don’t need one of these for myself as I just don’t know why you would want to do this, but we have one the girls got and they love it.  This will stop the fights since they can each have one to play with now.  This one is more grown up than the flower one we have but I think they can handle it.

20170627_182647

Google Virtual Reality Cardboard Headset

This folds out into a headset that you wear and stick your phone in and use with Google Expeditions to have a VR experience.  This isn’t really great for me as I had a “real” VR headset and used it twice before I gave it away.  This is going to go straight into the donate bin.

20170627_182557

Finger Moistener

They recommend using these to turn the pages of the books you read on vacation until next fall when you can use them to grade papers.  I won’t use them for that but I love these things!  I have used them before when I had a job involving lots of paper sorting but I will just find an excuse to use them now.

20170627_182630

Screen Wipes

I need these so badly for all my screens that it’s not even funny.  I don’t notice the dirty on them until the sun hit it and then I wonder how I even saw anything on my screen.  There are not too many in this pack but I will save them and use them carefully.

20170627_182523

Colouring Book Planner and Coloured Pencils

I think this is the reason for the different shipping container this month.  It is big and I live it!  I have a few colouring books but don’t really have the time to devote to it.  Having the colouring page in a planner I can leave open and work on in spare moments at work means I should be able to get it in.  This planner starts now and runs to July of next year.

20170627_182615

Fruit Snack

They remembered the snack this month and it’s going to work with me tomorrow!

This month was just okay for me.   Normally a few of the things are really great and a couple are not for me, but that’s only because I’m not a teacher.  I can see how these things would be useful for a teacher and they also work well for those of us who love these things.  There was a treat this time.  I’m not sure how any of these particular items are innovative but maybe I’m missing that part of it.   You can find this box on CrateJoy if you are interested.

20170518_185550

There seemed to be some really useful things in there this time.

20170518_185829

This is also the first time they’ve included a little card in the box.  It has a poem telling you about the items and at the top, it tells you why they put these items together.  This is a great addition to the box.

20170518_185800

I can always use more of these for work since the ones in the meeting rooms are dry more often than not.  I like that two of them are fun colours as well as the basic black.

20170518_185641

It doesn’t matter that my children are past the diaper stage, I have wipes in my purse all the time.  Sometimes I use them on my husband.  These ones say they are for toddlers but I’m sure they are regular wipes that have been branded up.

20170518_185628

Somehow, we never have any packing tape in the house.  There is not a ton on this roll but it’s a 100% increase over what we had and so, so useful to have around.

20170518_185732

Basic pencils and pens are good for the littles to use.  I prefer a fancier pen so I’ll leave these in a common area and keep hiding mine.

20170518_185812

I haven’t had a soft pink eraser since I was in elementary school so this brings back memories.  That first use before it gets all rounded and used is the best.

20170518_185610

This is a portable charger and I don’t think you can ever have too many of them.  They are so handy to keep around and have saved me more than once.

20170518_185657

This is the second pack of wipes in the box and these ones might not make it into my purse but probably will live in my car.

This month was fantastic for me.   Normally a few of the things are really great and a couple are not for me, but that’s only because I’m not a teacher.  I can see how these things would be useful for a teacher and they also work well for those of us who love these things.  There was no treat this time but the rest of the box more than made up for it.  I’m not sure how any of these particular items are innovative but maybe I’m missing that part of it.   You can find this box on CrateJoy if you are interested.

Teacher’s Black Box April 2017

20170430_184829

Well, the box had something on top so there was no way to see what was hiding in there this month.

20170430_184855

The thing that was covering all of the top of the box was a large colouring page.  It looks to me like a big snake eye.  I have a few adult colouring books so this will be fun to do.

20170430_184922

Next we have six pocket calculators.  There are two of each colour stacked up in this picture.  My children love calculators so they will each get one of these and the rest will be saved until we need them.  20170430_184939

There was a great score of Sharpie markers in there too!  There are fifteen of the normal fine point ones in an assortment of non-standard colours.  There are also fifteen of the ultra fine point markers in some really great colours.  I could use these to colour in that page from above or just hide them from my family and bring them out one at a time to extend my joy.

20170430_184950

They are back to having the snack in there.  Island Fruits flavoured Welch’s Fruit Snacks.

20170430_185010

There was a note in the box saying that there would be seeds to plant in honour of Earth Day, unless you were an international subscriber and then you got these page flags instead.  I use these as bookmarks so I’m okay getting them.

Teacher’s Black Box March 2017

20170430_182523

The box was stuffed full this time. There seem to be some practical supplies in there that would come in handy for the last few months of school, when kids have started to lose or use up what they started with.

20170430_182537

These are a very bright set of pencils.  We have so many pencils due to my habit of buying any that are fun or different.  We have lots of school left with the girls, about 14 more years, so I’m sure we can put these to use.

20170430_182546

Next out was this bag of black pens.  I very rarely use a plain ink pen, but if I’m going to it’ll be one of these crystal shaft type ones. These will also be good to go to school with the girls in the future.

20170430_182606

Now we have six packages of 8 Crayola crayons.  I am quite surprised to find brand name crayons in the box since they are usually all about maximizing profit and brand names don’t do that.  I am very happy though and these will be great for travel or taking to Grandma’s.

20170430_182625

This one was a little odder.  Not in the product, 16 Crayola markers, but in that, they are loose in an elastic instead of a package.  This has all of the basic colours plus a few of the more exotic ones that are newer to the lineup.

20170430_182639

Hidden in the box were five Elmer’s glue sticks.  I am very happy to get these.  I hate letting the kids try to work with regular liquid glue because it’s on their fingers and all the stuff that is not what they are actually gluing.  This means I will be stocked up for summer.

20170430_182702

Gosh, this box is just full of useful things!  These two packs of 12 Crayola pencil crayons are a great addition.  We now have the full set of basic colouring utensils.  I had a little colouring book shopping spree for the girls a few weeks ago and now they can use new pencils to make a start on them.

20170430_182728

We are so set for scissors now!  Like almost any child, my kids want to play with scissors all the time and we had one pair of kid scissors at home so the fights were on.  Now we can have exactly the same pair for each of them and my life shall be so much easier.

20170430_182739

This super handy little kit is going straight into the car.  It has just the basics in it but it’s good to have around.  Everything can be made better with the application of a band-aid.

20170430_182806

Mixed into the paper shreds were five pencil top erasers.  I think these things are simply great and now I’m happy.

KidPackz February 2017

KidPackz is a monthly delivery of school supplies.  They send out things that your children might need for either home or school based on the grade level and gender of your child.  They don’t offer a kindergarten box so we chose the Grade 1 level.  They also include an educational toy in each box.  For summer months they say they will include more games and toys instead of supplies.  Boxes start at $15 per month but go down with longer plans.  Shipping to Canada is $2.50 per box.  I love school supplies and quite honestly could supply my children for most of their school lives but this will get us more things and provide both them and me with shiny new items to use.

Well after a few more months of not receiving this one and having them refund a few of them, a box has actually shown up.  Once I got it open I saw that it’s basically the same as it is every time.

20170306_192533

Another box of crayons.  I’d be upset about this if we didn’t end up needing a new box of them every few months.  This has just made it simpler.  For the first ten times, we use them the box gets refilled nicely and then we just toss them in a baggie and hope for the best.

20170306_192544

The markers I can do with them not sending again.  Markers are a bit off limits for the girls so we now have three packs in a drawer for the future.  I guess they’ll be useful at some point.

20170306_192627

In the pencil case, which at least is more kid like than normal, we have the collection of erasers, pencil sharpeners, pencils, and a glue stick that normally shows up.  All of these things are great to have on hand but I am especially glad for the sharpener and the glue stick.  Those things seem to disappear somewhere.

20170306_192651

This is a good notebook and if it makes it until one of the kids needs it for school, it’s fine.  It will probably be put to use as scrap paper way before then though.

20170306_192705

One shiny portfolio in pink…..check.  I don’t know why they put this in the box but at least it’s pink and the girls love them.

20170306_192553

The activity this time is a Sand Art Kit.  I think this looks too difficult and messy for me to do, let alone my 5-year-old.  I don’t care what that recommended age says.  I’ll tuck this away and it may just become part of a birthday present for some other child.

As I mentioned above, I am surprised that they repeated so many items.  I had thought they would send out a few things that are common repeatedly but not back to back months.  The items are good and all usable.   They did a good job making some of it items my girls are into and like.  If you sign up now you can use the code “LAUNCH” to get 5% off your order.

Paper & Pen February 2017

Paper & Pen is a monthly subscription box that promises to send out 3-4 paper goods and supplies each month.  They pick items from around the globe and send those unique items to you.  Boxes start at $20 a month but go down with longer plans.  Shockingly for me, shipping is free!  Let’s see what they sent out!

I like that this one comes all wrapped up in tissue paper.  It shows that someone actually took the time to put it together, instead of just tossing everything into a bubble envelope and hoping it get there.

Harvest Paper Co. Imprinted Pencils-$6.00

These mint green pencils are great.  They all say the same thing, “Skills to Pay The Bills”.  They are a #2 graphite pencil encased in California cedar wood.  I love using a “regular” pencil over a mechanical one so I’m happy to get these.  They will be cute to use at work as well and see if anyone notices.

20170308_174331Bloomwolf Studio Buttons-$6.00

This button pack is called the Flamingo Pack.  They say to use these to decorate your backpack or give as gifts.  I’m not really sure that either of those would work for me but the images are cute and I can probably find something to do with them.  They will live in my ephemera stash until the one magical day I can’t live without them.

20170308_174340Quill & Fox Notepad-$8.00

This notepad looks lovely.  All of the pages are like the one on top and they are slightly thicker than standard paper.  There are 50 pages in the pad and they are plain white on the back.  Because of the image, they are maybe smaller in usable space than others but you could easily write over the image if you need that space.

I’ve been happy with this box.  There is not a tonne of stuff in it but that was made clear in their info. I was able to find pricing for all the items this month and the value of the box is $20.00. I like that some of the products are from smaller companies and Etsy companies.  It shows that they really do search out interesting items instead of just buying lots off Amazon.

Teacher’s Black Box February 2017

20170219_195131The box is very Valentine’s themed.  There are hearts and pink and red and white papers everywhere.  It is also very heavy.

20170219_195148First out are some mini glue sticks.  I have a regular glue gun but not a mini one.  These ones are non-yellowing, which is great.  I can’t wait to burn my fingers on these!

20170219_195159These are packs of four crayons.  I love the Peanuts pictures on them too.  These will be great to take on trips or when we know we’ll need to wait and keep little fingers amused. SO cute.

20170219_195229Sticking with Peanuts, we have two pencils with the characters on them.  One is straight Snoopy with hearts and the other is Lucy and Snoopy with hearts.  I actually prefer a normal pencil over a mechanical one so I’m happy to add more to my stash of them.

20170219_195244These are two small Valentine’s with pins on them.  I have many years of giving out Valentine’s in my future so these are two less I will have to buy.

20170219_195254All lollipops go straight into the treat bag for the girls.  These are cute in the heart shape and I’m thinking that they will be chosen very shortly.

20170219_195311How great that they gave me the gun to go with the glue sticks! This will be so much easier to use on crafts than the full sized one I have already.

20170219_195353Holy crap…..an electric pencil sharpener!  There is no way I ever thought this would show up in a box.  I am not entirely sure that I really need one of these but I do know that I want it.  I think I may take this to work or maybe I’ll keep it on the desk at home until the girls are big enough to use it.

This month was better than last time for me.  A few of the things are really great and a couple are not for me, but that’s only because I’m not a teacher.  I can see how these things would be useful for a teacher and they also work well for those of us who love these things.  I’m not sure how any of these particular items are innovative but maybe I’m missing that part of it.   You can find this box on CrateJoy if you are interested.
