Home Made Luxe Craft Subscription November 2017

Home Made Luxe is a monthly box that sends out everything you need to make a Pinterest worthy home decor craft for your house.  They include step-by-step instructions and there is a link to a video that also walks you through them.  Boxes start at $29.99 plus shipping and do go down with longer terms.  I signed up for this one way back on Mother’s Day during the CrateJoy sale and scored it for 50% off.  I am always looking for new craft boxes and ideas and these ones are a little different from what I’ve received before.  I have a big stack of these to get through but all the delays in reviewing them are mine and have nothing to do with any shipping issues or problems getting boxes.  They do provide shipping notices and often they send out surveys to see what craft you want to see in the next month’s box.

The box was nicely wrapped inside and all the items were safely packaged.

The instruction booklet gives you an overview of the project and then step by step instructions to complete it.  It also has a Thank You from the founder and a code to get a discount on another box.

The craft is a DIY Burlap Wreath.  This is very cute and since it did arrive near the beginning of Winter it would make a perfect decoration for your door.  You have to tie all the strips around the form and then add the decorations as finishing touches.

There was no bonus craft this month but Ièm not upset about it as the main craft is pretty awesome. I have been very happy with all the boxes I’ve received since the first one that made me question why I had signed up for this.  They have been providing me with tool and crafts that I would never reach out to myself and I’m excited to get these all made up.

As always the box gives you a hint as to what type of thing you have ordered.  Inside things are not quite as neat as normal but still fine.

They have a little book that not only has your instructions in it but also a little bit about some of the customers and a thank you from the founder on the back.  There are also some notes about how to win a box and a code for a discount.

The main craft this month is a Personalized Cutting Board Kit.  This seems like a good way for me to get burned.  They provide you with a cutting board, templates, a wood burner with four tips, an extra shading tip, a graphite stick, a pencil and tape, and a cork coaster.  I have never used a wood burner in my life!  This could go either way.  I may have to practice on the back of the board first because I want this to look nice and I’m not sure that just going for it is the best way to make that happen.

The bonus craft this month are Cork Coasters.  In this one, they give you the cork rounds, the wood burner, templates, the pencil, and some tape.  These seem much more likely to catch on fire while I’m attempting this.  The give you some ideas for how to design them on the facing page of the instructions but they look pretty professional to me.

This month is great but I’m terrified to give it a go.  I really want to make these and try this technique that is so foreign to me but I’m sure I’m going to burn myself or something else.  I have been very happy with all the boxes I’ve received since the first one that made me question why I had signed up for this.  They have been providing me with tool and crafts that I would never reach out to myself and I’m excited to get these all made up.

This month didn’t look too interesting for supplies but sometimes the most basic items can make fabulous things.

20170918_205327

The craft this month is a Macrame Kit.  They had an online vote to decide which of the two things to make and there was such a great response that they decided to have both of them in the box.

First up is the Macrame Hanging Planter.  Included in the box for you to make this are macrame cord, a large dowel, a succulent (plastic), white & gold paint, plant pot & lid, and a foam brush.  I need to supply a knife, a nail, and a ruler.  They give very detailed step by step instructions and a link to a video if you prefer to watch someone explain it.

The bonus project is a Macrame Owl.  For this one, they give you a small dowel, macrame cord, and three beads, two large and one small.  This one also has the printed and video instructions so that you can get those crazy knots made properly.

Macrame is such an old-fashioned craft but I have great memories of plant hangers made out of it my house growing up.  In fact, now that I look up, I have one in my living room right now!  This is something I have never done in my life but I’m hoping that my youth spent making friendship bracelets involving all those tiny knots is going to help me out.

This sub comes in a big branded box and inside that, it is always nicely wrapped and packaged.

The craft this month is a Floral Pallet Sign.  All instructions are included and there is also video instructions that you can access if you need more help.  This booklet includes the instructions for a bonus craft, Felt Flower Paper Clip. They added a recipe for Teriyaki Chicken Pineapple Boats to round out the pages.  On the back is a note from the founder thanking us for subscribing and letting us know that she’d love to see our finished crafts and any feedback or suggestions.

20170816_172013

The box includes a wood pallet, laugh lettering, white paint, wood stain, a foam brush, glue sticks, felt flower materials, and the kit to make the bonus paper clip project.  The only thing I have to provide on my own is a glue gun.  I have a couple of those so I think I’m set.

My third box from this subscription is again something I am looking forward to making.  This is a new crafting technique for me and it is not something I have made before.   I’m glad that the box has improved from last month and I hope that they keep going in this direction.

Home Made Luxe Craft Subscription Box June 2017

This sub ships in one of the largest boxes I’ve received.  It is fully branded and no matter what is inside, it’s always the same box.  Once I opened the lid I found everything packed carefully and looking neat.

This door hanger was included, I’m guessing because it was my first box.  It is a cute way to let everyone know you’re busy and on the back is a code to get a discount.

The project for this month is a Marbled Hexagon Clock.  I have to admit when I saw it I went, what the hell is this crazy ass thing from 1982?  It is not really my style of decor but I will make it and then it can just live in my craft room, where I don’t have a clock.  Marbling is not a craft technique I’ve ever done, so that is good.  The instructions are good and there are plenty of pictures to detail those words too.  They provide two different ideas that you can make depending on what you are needing or wanting in your house.  There is also a Bonus Craft that you can make by providing a few items yourself.  This time they provided some decorative duck tape (who spells it like that???) and show you how to make vases out of cans.

20170612_183242

Here is the whole pile of provided items.  There is a chalkboard clock face, a clock hands kit, white paint, paint brush, a feather, cardstock, paper plates, clock numbers, a sponge, chalk, and a battery.  The roll near the bottom is the David Tutera Lace Duck Tape for the bonus craft.

For my first box from this subscription, I’m not that thrilled with what I received.  I’m happy to try a new crafting technique but the finished product is not something I would ever make or buy if I saw it.  I like that there is only water and a hot glue gun that I need to provide and that everything else is included.  I have high hopes for the rest of my boxes from them and since it would be hard for it to get worse as a finished product it can only go up from here.

Annie’s Creative Woman Kit-Of-The-Month Club October 2017

Annie’s Creative Woman sends out a complete craft kit once a month so you can try and learn new crafts.  Crafts could include painting, beading, needlecrafts, memory crafts, soap-making, mosaics, card-making or anything really.  You get your first month at half price and then pay regular price for all successive months.  There are shipping charges applied as well.  Each month the kit will be billed to you for $19.99.  I am always on the lookout for new crafts and kits are so much less hassle because you get everything you need.

This month the project is called Peacock Bargello.  We are learning the art of Bargello Needlepoint Embroidery and then once we make a section of it, we attach it to a tote bag as a pocket.  The kit includes the tote, floss, needle, needle threader, and canvas to do the embroidery on.  This looks really pretty and it is a new technique for me.  I do normal embroidery so hopefully, this is something that the knowledge of that can help me with.

This should be my last kit from them.  I had cancelled last month but since they have always billed in advance I was waiting for one more.  I enjoy the crafts they sent out but not enough to find the price with shipping and exchange acceptable.

This month the kit is for Beading.  It contains everything you need to make a pair of earrings and a necklace.  It doesn’t come with any of the tools you will need but I own a couple of pairs of small pliers and that should be all that is required. I have never done jewelry making before and this style is not really something I would pick but I’m hoping that the effort of making it will make it more appealing.  I am interested in learning this skill so that will make it good too.

They are still one payment ahead of shipment on this box but they are at least shipping them out on a regular basis now.  This month is just okay for me and I have already sent my request to end these arriving at my door.  They are just too hit and miss and with the exchange rate it’s not worth it for me to continue.

This month the kit is Festive Friends Ornaments.  It’s a cross stitch trio done on a paper Aida cloth.  It comes with all the floss and ribbon for hanging as well.  Cross stitch is something I already do regularly but these are super cute and will make lovely ornaments, gifts, or gift tags.

They are still one payment ahead of shipment on this box but they are at least shipping them out on a regular basis now.  I’m happy with this months offering, I know it’s something I will do and that means I’ll continue this subscription for at least one more month.

This is the front of the booklet that comes in your package.  It shows you a completed picture of the craft you’ll be doing, in this case, a Birthday Reminder Book.  It also lists technique you’re learning, Book Making.

20170731_172724

Inside are full-colour images and step-by-step instructions to complete your craft.  They are very easy to follow and explain things in ways that don’t assume you have a base knowledge of the craft.  20170731_172808_001

In this kit are chipboard book covers, printed papers, calendar pages, chipboard die cuts, rub-on transfers, silver loose-leaf rings, a wooden craft stick, grosgrain ribbons, and glitter.  They expect you to provide scissors, a ruler, a stapler, hole punch, and craft glue.  All of those things are basic and probably found in any crafters house anyways.

This is not a craft I would ever have picked up and tried.  It feels too much like scrapbooking for my taste and I do not get that at all.  That being said I will make this craft and see how it goes.  I did contact customer service with this because I had been billed twice before I had received anything.  They did respond and let me know I should get a package by the end of this month but didn’t mention the fact that there were two billings before a package arrived.  We’ll see how it is going forward but that doesn’t make me feel great about the service.

Curiosity Box March 2017

Curiosity Box is a Canadian monthly subscription that sends out craft and activity boxes for children 3-7.  They hope to inspire curiosity and creativity in kids and help families have quality time together.  You can buy single boxes or 3,6, or 12-monthplans.  You can also get Curiosity Kits that are made for birthday parties, homeschooling or daycare groups.  Single boxes start at $26.55 and plans begin at $26.50/month and go down with longer subscriptions.  Shipping within Canada is included!  In the monthly plans, they include, in the months published, a copy of Parent’s Canada magazine.  I had been looking to replace the craft one I was getting for Bug so finding one and a Canadian one to boot is awesome!

The box was packed with lots of animal parts.  Which sounds creepy now that I’ve said it out loud.  Oh well.

They have a  tri-fold pamphlet that gives you all the instructions for your crafts, bonus activities, and fun facts based on the theme.

Safari Animal Masks

You need this craft kit and some glue, which they included but I didn’t photo.  It looks like we got a lion and this will be a super quick one that the girls will love to play with once it’s finished.

20170423_193128

Safari Animal Visor Craft

Once again you need the kit and the glue.  There were three animals you might have received and we got the giraffe.  I think there’ll be a fight over this one.

Safari Animal Plate Craft Kit

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room…….sorry, I couldn’t resist 🙂  This cute guy has pre-glued pieces to stick onto the plate to make a hanging craft.

20170423_193229

Safari Game

This is one of their activities instead of a craft.  They give you the game board, crayons, animals, and a die and you colour everything in before starting to play.  You just roll the die and move that many spaces around.

20170423_193318

Safari Sticker Sheet

This is another activity, making your own safari scene.

20170423_193353

The always throw in a few extras and this month we have a finger puppet, a parachuting lion, and a slide puzzle.

Bug loves this box.  She loves this kind of craft, and I like that most are simple and quick enough to do before bed or supper.  The crafts seem to be coming from Oriental Trading and I’m fine with that because I would totally be ordering from there myself if I could figure out what to do with the 17 other packages of the same crafts you need to buy at once.  The instructions are clear and the additional activities don’t require crazy supplies no one would have.  I am grateful to find any Canadian boxes and am glad to support them.  If you want to join this one, send me a message and I can give you a code for a discount off a3-monthh plan.
