The Fan Empire May 2017

The Fan Empire is a monthly subscription that sends you out 4-6 pieces of fandom merchandise.  Items can be anything from posters to t-shirts and are based around a different theme each month.  Previous fandoms include The Hunger Games and Harry Potter.  Boxes start at $14.95 a month but do go down a little with a longer plan.  Shipping to Canada was $5.50.  I am always wary of the fandom boxes because if you get a month that is not one of yours then it can feel like a waste.  Let’s see how we get on with this one.

20170524_133746

I was very surprised when this package showed up.  I had given up on ever getting any more from this company as my messages went unanswered and I haven’t received anything in months.

20170524_133821

They do include an info card that tells you about where the items come from and what their values are.  It also tells you the theme, “Tale As Old As Time”.

Beauty and The Beast Coin Purse-$8.00

This is a small coin purse with a snap closure.  It is made from thicker vinyl and has the same image, just reversed, on each side.  It is nice and if you are a fan of the movie it would be a great memento.

20170524_134106

Adjustable Enchanted Rose Ring-$6.00

This is quite cute.  I don’t get why they would have put the little white rocks in there as well as the rose but maybe I’m missing something having not seen this incarnation of the movie.  It is huge and decidedly not practical for everyday wear but would make a nice addition to a costume.

20170524_134021

Chip Laser Cut Earrings Set-$10.00

How cute are these?  Chip is an underrated addition to the movie.  These are small enough to wear every day and will garner comments I’m sure.

Beauty And The Beat Double-sided Bookmark-$5.00

One can never have enough bookmarks.  I always have a stack of them handy.  This will get tons of use and it’s pretty too.

20170524_133814

Beauty And The Beast Custom Postcard-$5.00

I always hate to include this in the value as it’s really the back of the info card.  I guess you could frame it if you were inclined but it is usually a little bent or damaged by the time it arrives.

Once again this one came really, really late.  She says she lets everyone on social media know and occasionally sends an email to subscribers to let them know the same thing.  I just expect them to be super late into the next month.  The value this month is $34.00.  There were a few things I really enjoyed this time.  I have no idea what will show up in this bag and the themes never match what the website says so I’ll wait and see.

Mighty Fix May 2017

Mighty Fix is a monthly subscription that sends you one product a month that can help your family live healthier.  Boxes start at $10.00 per month and there is a slight discount for a yearly join.  Shipping to Canada is $3.00 per month and free to the US.  You also have the option to add any items from their shop to your order each month with no extra shipping fees.  They also send out emails with member only deals on items all through the month.  This was another one I had really wanted to try but they’ve only recently opened up shipping to Canada.  Once I found that out I jumped on board to see what I could get that would make my life healthier and hopefully easier too.

20170524_134128

The seem to always send things that are fairly flat so they can ship in these bags.  This time is slightly thicker than the last few months but I still don’t know what I will find inside.

There is an info card in the package.  On one side it tells you all about what you received and why they are a good change to make.  On the other is usually a recipe or a tip to using the items.

20170524_134210

Reusable Produce Bag-$10.99

These bags replace the thin plastic bags you would dump your veggies and fruit in and them toss once you’re home.  There are five in the package and they are machine washable if they get dirty.  They are the same size as the ones the store provides and they have a drawstring to close them at the top.  These will go with my reusable shopping bags and I will definitely use them for my shopping.

I’m happy with the offerings this month.  These are something we will for sure use and that come at a good time for us. I’m getting to try some things I’m sure I would never just buy and they are easy ways to make simple changes to try and keep my home and family in better health.  I’m glad that they opened up to Canada and can’t wait to see what other crazy things they send me next.

Rosalette Beauty Bag May 2017

Rosalette Beauty Bag is a monthly subscription that sends out makeup and beauty products.  They offer a few different plans, either 4 sample sized products or 5-6 products, mixed between sample and full sized.  Plans start at $13.90 a month and there are added shipping costs.  If you subscribe for a year there are discounts.  I have no beauty bags left in my sub rotation so I was on the lookout for a cheaper one to get me some fun things.  I chose the Deluxe Bag, which is the bigger of the two.  The do send out shipping notices so that’s nice and it turns out that they are a Canadian company too!!!!

20170511_172407

This fabulously shiny bag was inside of a bubble mailer.  There is no info card included so I’m going to have to wing it on the items.

20170511_172429

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel-15mL $7.50

This is a body exfoliant that has a blend of their peel and a polishing sand.  You can use it anywhere on your body, besides your face.  It says it will help prepare your skin for a spray tan or to keep you from having those bumps when you shave your bikini area.  It is also good for keratosis, eczema, body acne, ingrown hairs, and blackheads.  I have used their peel before and it’s kinda crazy but works really well.

20170511_172523

Skone Cosmetics Luxe Doubler Eye & Lip Pencil in Wine-$10.00 Full Size

This is an odd colour to me to be both eye and lip liner.  It would be a good lip one but I don’t think I’ve ever put a wine colour as an eyeliner.  It is a wonderfully soft pencil that glides on smoothly but it smudges very easily.

20170511_172600

Starlooks Eyeshadow Duo in Fortune 500-$12.00

This is a very sparkly duo that I love.  It is one of their “Perfect Size” items, which is about 70% of a normal size and it’s what goes out in their own subscription box.  I have always been interested in their box and products so this is great for me.  I will use these shades and rock the glow!

20170511_172625

Glow For A Cause Facial Moisturizing Cream-.25oz $?

This smells so good!  It is a vanilla and aloe blend that refreshes and hydrates the skin while leaving it wonderfully scented and glowing.  This little pot will go a long way as it spreads out very well.  I have never ever heard of this brand before but I think I will like it based on the little I’ve tried so far.

Vasanti Sun Peached Glow Brightening Mineral Powder-$29.00

It seems like there has been a packaging change and that this might be older stock of this powder.  This is very peachy in colour and I don’t know if I’ll be able to pull it off.  It is supposed to provide a colour and a glow in one without any glitter.  It is definitely matte but such a pigmented shade that it really sticks to you.

I am very happy with my first box from them.  There is a great mix of beauty products and they’ve given me the makeup I’ve been missing from my other boxes.  The value of this month is $48.50 plus the moisturizer that I can’t value.  That is great and so much higher than the price of the box.  The shipping was quick as well since they are Canadian and only a province over from me.  If you want to try them out they have a coupon that will get you 10% off any subscription, just type ROSALETTE at checkout.

Teacher’s Black Box May 2017

Teacher’s  Black Box is a box of items which will include “basic and innovative supplies to enhance their educational impact”.  Now I am not a teacher but if you put a chance to get stationery in front of me, there’s only a small chance I’ll turn it down.  They also say there will be a snack in every box.  Boxes start at $20.00 but go down with longer terms.  Normally the shipping on this one would have stopped me from ordering but they were offering a promo code “ONETIME” that gave you free shipping on orders over $50.  That code is still valid so make sure you use it if you want to sign up.  Let’s see what joy they have delivered to me today.

20170518_185550

There seemed to be some really useful things in there this time.

20170518_185829

This is also the first time they’ve included a little card in the box.  It has a poem telling you about the items and at the top, it tells you why they put these items together.  This is a great addition to the box.

20170518_185800

I can always use more of these for work since the ones in the meeting rooms are dry more often than not.  I like that two of them are fun colours as well as the basic black.

20170518_185641

It doesn’t matter that my children are past the diaper stage, I have wipes in my purse all the time.  Sometimes I use them on my husband.  These ones say they are for toddlers but I’m sure they are regular wipes that have been branded up.

20170518_185628

Somehow, we never have any packing tape in the house.  There is not a ton on this roll but it’s a 100% increase over what we had and so, so useful to have around.

20170518_185732

Basic pencils and pens are good for the littles to use.  I prefer a fancier pen so I’ll leave these in a common area and keep hiding mine.

20170518_185812

I haven’t had a soft pink eraser since I was in elementary school so this brings back memories.  That first use before it gets all rounded and used is the best.

20170518_185610

This is a portable charger and I don’t think you can ever have too many of them.  They are so handy to keep around and have saved me more than once.

20170518_185657

This is the second pack of wipes in the box and these ones might not make it into my purse but probably will live in my car.

This month was fantastic for me.   Normally a few of the things are really great and a couple are not for me, but that’s only because I’m not a teacher.  I can see how these things would be useful for a teacher and they also work well for those of us who love these things.  There was no treat this time but the rest of the box more than made up for it.  I’m not sure how any of these particular items are innovative but maybe I’m missing that part of it.   You can find this box on CrateJoy if you are interested.

Loves It Newfoundland Box April 2017

Loves It is a box of Newfoundland sourced, hand crafted, home made items.  They are proudly sending out boxes of items they purchase from those local suppliers so that they can show off the greatness of their artists, crafters, and businesses.  They offer both a Standard or a Premium box and monthly or quarterly subscriptions.  Boxes start at $35.00 a month but do go down with longer plans.  There will be 4-7 items per box and they say they will range in value from $40-$75.  I am always on the lookout for Canadian boxes and so while I’m not from Newfoundland nor have I ever been there I was still interested in this box.

Hey! They switched up the box for this month.  Now I don’t have to worry about cutting into anything when opening up the box.  Once I got in I could see that things were a little stuffed to one side.

20170524_191253

Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Biscuit-$1.00

This cookie bar thing looks like it’ll be delicious.  It has layers of wafers and chocolate and caramel.  According to the internet, they sell millions of these every week.  I have never heard or seen them before but they appear to be Scottish and maybe only available in the Atlantic provinces.

Good On Ya All Natural Skin Care Atlantic Kelp Hydrating Mask & Mint Lip Balm-$5.00 Each

This company is a mom and daughter who needed a change from the standard items in the market right now.  The mask is a powder that needs to be mixed with water.  It removes dead skin cells, draws out toxins, and moisturizes as you use it.  This vial appears to be enough for two uses.  The lip balm is a mix of kinds of butters and oils that will keep your lips soft.

20170524_191357

Angela Foss Gallery Notecard-$?

This is a very beautiful notecard.  It comes with an envelope and I love the scene it portrays.  I always need note cards because of writing to my pen pals and this one will be appreciated I’m sure.

20170524_191415

There is no information on this print at all.  There is a signature on the bottom, Tyrone something.  It has come already in a frame/stand and depicts an elk in the northern lights in Winter.  It is a stunning image and I will display it proudly.

20170524_191424

Newfoundland Seasonings Steak, Burger, & Caesar Spice-$7.00

This appears to cover every possible version of what I could want.  It has no gluten, MSG, additives, or preservatives.  We have had many other spices from this brand and they have all been wonderful.  I don’t drink caesars so I’ll never know if it makes a good one but it will grace my next steak.

I thought last month (and the month before)were my last boxes from Loves It but I got this one.  As normal, I still never have any clue what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  There is a good mix of products. I just wish for a few of the thing that they would tell me what or why it was included. Value is always hard for this box as I don’t always know where things are from. If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.

Mighty Fix April 2017

20170512_154108

This one took forever to get here this time.  The package is very flat and light but I’m sure whatever is inside will be exciting.

They do toss a card in there to let you know what you’ve received as well as why this is a good item to have.  On the back is usually a recipe that can be used by the item.  This time it is a recipe for Banana Oat Bars.

20170512_154135

LunchSkins Reusable Sandwich and Snack Bags-$7.99 & $6.99

I love getting more of these.  I have a few, from other brands, and they make lunches easy.  These ones are moisture-proof and dishwasher-safe.  They feel like a canvas but are apparently made out of the same material as good piping bags.  I like the colours they sent me, though they are available in many others.

I’m back to being happy with the offerings this month.  These are something we will for sure use and that come at a good time for us. I’m getting to try some things I’m sure I would never just buy and they are easy ways to make simple changes to try and keep my home and family in better health.  I’m glad that they opened up to Canada and can’t wait to see what other crazy things they send me next.

Glorious Life Soap Of The Month May 2017

Glorious Life is a Canadian company that makes handcrafted soap, skin, and body care products.  I found them on Etsy but they also have a website.  They make all their items in small batches and they are free from synthetic dyes and fragrances, preservatives, parabens, and phthalates.  They are all gluten free and most of them are vegan as well.  They offer 4, 6, and 12-month subscriptions, starting at $25.00, including shipping to Canada.  I was looking for something different and was happy to stumble across this one.

20170522_201338

Since they ship this sub in a normal envelope they wrap the bar of soap in cardstock before sticking it in there to keep it safe.  The owner adds a little note on it each month.

Activated Charcoal Soap-$2.25

This soap is from their Natural line.   Charcoal is commonly used as a detoxifier.  This helps to make a great facial bar as well as a hand and body bar.  With summer almost here and being outside more anything that can keep my skin looking good in fewer clothes is more than welcome.

I’m really glad to support a Canadian company and enjoy handcrafted bath products.  This is an inexpensive way to get a great selection of soaps and after browsing their site there is definitely a few soaps I’m hoping will show up in my mailbox.  If you sign up for their newsletter you can get 15% off your purchase and they have also sent me a code to get 3% off any further purchases from the site.

MayaMade Herbal C.S.A Herb and Soap Of The Month March 2017

MayaMade is another of my Etsy finds.  They use Community Supported Agriculture model to produce and share their products.  Each month you will receive 2 bars of soap and one bonus bar in winter. All soaps are 7oz.  They are handcrafted with organic oils and botanicals.  You can also request them to send out specific soaps from their collection if you don’t want to have that surprise.  This one is $13.32 including shipping a month. Well, let’s see what soaps we ended up with this time.

20170430_184651

Inside of a bubble mailer was this wrapped parcel of soap.

20170430_184706

Water Deep-$9.09

What is up with all the patchouli this month?  This one is a patchouli and orange blend.  It also has some pink clay in it, which is giving it a slight pinkish tone near the top.  I don’t mind the smell, the orange cuts the patchouli really well so you won’t smell like a crazy hippy.

20170430_184715

Solstice Night-$9.09

This one is lavender scented and I love it.  On the top of it, you can just see there are crumbled amber resin.  That in itself is very cool and with it being a smell I love, this bar is a win all around.

This one has the biggest soaps of all the ones I get.  The value is $18.18.  They have a few different plans if you want to get some of their other products as well.  I have no idea how we’re going to use all this soap up each month!

Real Soaps Soap Of The Month May 2017

Real Soaps is a company out of Chicago making handmade soaps and natural body care products.  They don’t use any sulphates, parabens, phthalates and are cruelty-free. They also have no dyes, preservatives, or artificial ingredients and only pure essential oils for scents.  I found them on Etsy but they also have a website.  You can buy individual soaps or they have six and twelve-month plans starting at $47.00 and shipping to Canada was under $20 for the whole term.  I’m not sure why I’m on a soap kick lately but they are fun to get.

20170522_192511

Well, that picture turned out fuzzy, didn’t it?  This is the mailer bag that the soap ships in, with their little Thank You on the back.

I love the care they take in the packaging of this soap.  It’s simple but so effective and I think it looks great.  The soap this month is Patchouli Orange Tea Scrub.

Those flecks that you see in there is organic black tea.  That’s what’s doing the exfoliating on your skin.  It also has cocoa butter for your skin.  The patchouli oil has lots of good things going for it such as being an anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, and deodorizing.  Basically, this soap will cure all your ails while making your skin better than it was.

I am always looking for bath type products and soap is such an easy way to shake up your routine.  I tend to not share these with my family but it I find a scent that is too strong or not to my liking then I give it to my hubby who is less picky.  That won’t be happening with this one!

MayaMade Herbal C.S.A Herb and Soap Of The Month February, March, & April 2017

MayaMade is another of my Etsy finds.  They use Community Supported Agriculture model to produce and share their products.  Each month you will receive 2 bars of soap and one bonus bar in winter. All soaps are 7oz.  They are handcrafted with organic oils and botanicals.  You can also request them to send out specific soaps from their collection if you don’t want to have that surprise.  This one is $13.32 including shipping a month. Well, let’s see what soaps we ended up with this time.

They once again missed sending a box to me so, but a quick email to the seller on Etsy and they shipped me out a few months at the same time.  I have no idea which soaps belong to each month so I’ll just lay them out here in the order I pulled them out of the bag.

20170512_154257

Kaolin & Peppermint Soap-$9.09

This soap smells nice.  It’s not heavy on the peppermint but still has something other than a soap scent.  This one is going to be on the keeper list.

20170512_154308

Rosemary & Mint Seaweed Soap-$9.09

This soap has a hint of green to it from the seaweed but still has the peppermint scent to it.  The rosemary makes it a comforting smell to me and I like it.

20170512_154315

Activated Charcoal Soap-$9.09

Activated charcoal is great for detoxing so this soap not only cleans your skin but is good for it as well.  This is a whole body soap and will leave you soft and moisturized.

This one has the biggest soaps of all the ones I get.  The value is $27.27.  They have a few different plans if you want to get some of their other products as well.  I have no idea how we’re going to use all this soap up each month!
