The Penalty Box December 2016

The Penalty Box is a monthly subscription that sends out items for hockey players.  They promise to include basic items, skills training, performance wear, and deals.  They offer two different plans, The Minor Leaguer and The Penalty Box.  Whichever one you choose, you then get to pick from three age levels, Age 13 and Under, 13+, and Beer Leaguer, which determines the items that will be in your box.  Prices start at $29.99 a month and go up from there.  They also do a Grab Bag for $21.99 a month that is a mix of anything. They have an online shop that sells some items individually as well.  My Hubby has been after me for a while to find him a box and one that is hockey related to boot.  That has been impossible until this one so let’s see if we can make him happy with whatever is inside. I also want to mention that I only know things about hockey that have been absorbed by osmosis so if I’m wildly off in describing something, that’s why.

The box that showed up was simple but told you everything you needed to know about what was inside.  Once I opened it up, I could see…..nothing …..just the paper laying on top and a few edges of something.

This sheet tells you all the possible items that were in all of the boxes that they sent out.  This means that you will not get everything but a selection of things that are listed.  It also tells you that if you see something you really want, email them and they will sell it to you at a discount.

Howies Loaded Tape Tin-$14.00

This is cool.  It’s a Howies branded tin that holds three rolls of tape.  Inside were a white, blue, and black roll.  The black one seems a bit different in texture than the other two but like I said above I don’t really know enough to judge.

Howies Royal Blue Waxed Skate Laces-$6.25

This is a set of 108″ long waxed laces.  The wax gives them extra grip so they stay tied up.  This length is made to be used for a senior size 8-10 skate and that is perfect for our house.

Howies Hockey Fine Skate Stone-$6.99

This is used to repair minor nicks and damage to your skate blade to get you through until you can get them sharpened again.  This seems like a good thing to have on the bench with you.

Howies Hockey Stick Wax-$6.00

Okay…this smells amazing!!!  I want to rub it all over or lick it or something.  The actual use is to add grip to your stick for puck control while preventing ice and snow build-up on the blade.  I have never seen this in our house before but it might just live in a hockey bag and that is a no go zone for me.  In a side note… says do not eat on the back so I’m not the only one who thinks it smells good.

Swedish Wood Stick-Handling Ball-$3.95

So this is used to increase your handling of the puck.  You practice with this little, light, wood ball and by gaining control of it, you become a better puck handler.  Or so Google tells me.

Warrior Speed Ball-$2.50

This is different from above in that it’s foam and it’s made for playing competitive mini hockey.  I didn’t know that was a thing.  It’s made to slide easily over carpet and be soft enough to take in the face without serious hurt.

The Adrenaline Lacrosse Vendetta Sock-$14.99

While these socks are not specifically made for hockey I’m thinking the technology in them is good for any sport.  They feature antibunching, enhanced arch support, a breathable top, padded base, and reinforced toe and heel.

Biosteel High-Performance Sports Mix-$1.33 x 2

These drink powders are sugar, caffeine, and gluten free.  They provide energy and reduce muscle and mental fatigue.  I find it amusing that they attached the tubes to the card with hockey tape.  These guys are all hockey all the time.

I wasn’t sure what types of things this box would send out and whether or not my hubby would like it.  Turns out, this is everything he could want in a hockey box.  It gave him a bunch of useful items that he would be buying anyways, plus some things that are helpful to his game.  This box had a value of $57.34, which is higher than I paid for the box but only just because of the shipping costs.  I have a few more months to go and then we’ll see if we renew.  I know Hubs is thrilled and wants it to be one we keep so we might have to work out a deal where I get back rubs or something.  If you want to check them out visit
