Uniquely You August 2016

Uniquely You is a subscription box with a difference from the normal ones.  They tailor each box to you personally so each one is different from the next.  When you sign up they have 20 categories you can choose from to base your box on.  They also send you a little quiz after to get to know you better filled with some serious and some frivolous questions.  I chose the Mystery Box category and after filling in my quiz they responded and asked if there were any of the categories I did not have any interest in. I told them that Festivals & Party Supplies, Men’s Fashion Accessories, Cats, and Smoking Accessories were not to my interest and they said nothing from those would be sent.  Boxes are $29.99 a month but go down a lot if you choose a longer term.  All pricing is in Canadian dollars and the box is based out of Alberta.

20160919_175901 20160919_175907

This box was really late arriving.  I had sent them an email, that was never answered, but oddly the postmark on my box is the day after……

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash-60mL $3.60

This is a travel version of this wash.  I love the tea tree line of items from the Body Shop.  They work great on my skin and I’ve used most of them over the years.  They are great for blemishes and leave my skin feeling nice.  This  was a good addition for me.

Wooden Watermelon Coasters

These are cute and very summery.  Three is an odd number to include but I like them.  We don’t have a coffee table so coasters aren’t the most useful thing for us but I can always give these as a gift.

20160919_175918 20160919_180012

Off Leash Dog Treats-150g $3.99

Another clue adding to my thought that they just tossed something in the mail after I’d let them know my box hadn’t arrived yet was these treats.  They are aware I have dogs from my questionnaire and I’m not upset to get these but take the time to remove the Winner’s price tag before shipping.  It’s just a lack of professionalism.

They are back to sending out a box of whatever they had on hand.  This box started out so great and it’s been just hit and miss lately.  I haven’t received my September box yet either or a shipping notice so there might be another email going to them soon.

Curiosity Box August 2016

Curiosity Box is a Canadian monthly subscription that sends out craft and activity boxes for children 3-7.  They hope to inspire curiosity and creativity in kids and help families have quality time together.  You can buy single boxes or 3,6,and 12 month plans.  You can also get Curiosity Kits that are made for birthday parties, homeschooling or daycare groups.  Single boxes start at $26.55 and plans begin at $26.50/month and go down with longer subscriptions.  Shipping within Canada in included!  In the monthly plans they include an item from their current partner and in the months published, a copy of Parent’s Canada magazine.  I have been looking to replace the craft one I was getting for Bug so finding one and a Canadian one to boot is awesome!

They ship in a pretty flat box with the logo in the corner.

20160916_185647 20160916_185703

It is wrapped so pretty all the time!  Inside is a whole pile of things to do.

20160916_185722 20160916_185728

They have a tri-fold pamphlet that tells you all the stuff you need to know.  The theme this month is Movie Time!.  There are the instructions, plus bonus activities and facts to share.  They also tell you who the box sponsor is for that month.

Movie Star Necklace

For this one everything you need in is the bag.  You just thread the ribbon and peel and stick the pieces together.  Lately both girls have wanted to do crafts so we take turns doing each piece.

Movie Decoration Kit

This one opens up to one of those tissue fans.  The included the bottle of glue so you really don’t need anything else.  There is a small bag of movie related sequins to stick all over the cardboard.

You’re A Star Photo Frame

This is another one that requires only peel and stick so it’ll be quick.  I actually printed a few photos off the other day so we might even have something to stick into it.

Movie Bingo

Once again, everything you need was included.  You have to cut out the callers card squares so they sent scissors even.  You mark off your squares with the dry erase marker and decide on what pattern you want yourself.

20160916_190118 20160916_190147

Other Activities

The bonus items this month include a movie trivia sheet, pencil, notebook popcorn bag, and snack holder just like you’d get at the theatre.

The brand partner this month is Mabel’s Labels.  They included a 30 pack of waterproof labels so you can try them out.  This is the exact brand we use for labeling all of Bug’s items for school so I’m thrilled to get more.  These things are surprisingly pricey.

I think this is going to be a good box for Bug.  She loves these kind of crafts, and I like that most are simple and quick enough to do before bed or supper.  The crafts seem to be coming from Oriental Trading and I’m fine with that because I would totally be ordering from there myself if I could figure out hat to do with the 17 other packages of the same crafts you need to buy at once.  The instructions are clear and the additional activities don’t require crazy supplies no one would have.  I am grateful to find any Canadian boxes and am glad to support them.  If you want to join this one, send me a message and I can give you a code for a discount off a 3 month plan.

L.V.Kiki September 2016

L.V.Kiki is a monthly subscription box of 4-6 fashion accessories.  You can either sign up for the plans or if you want to see what type of things they send out you can order a one off trial box.  The boxes may include jewelry, shoes, scarves, gloves, hats, legwear, belts, and hair accessories. Boxes start at $19.00 per month and shipping to here was less than $1.00 per month.  I was in the market for an accessories box and after finding a discount code for this one I got it at a great price. Shipping was super quick and I can’t wait to see what’s inside.

Well I couldn’t see much of anything opening the box so the anticipation hung around for a minute more.

I think it’s great that these guys send out hats.  Not to many other boxes do.  This is a black felt hat and I’ll need to gently steam it to get out the slight bend that packing it in a box gave it.  It fits my head and is a nice hat for fall.

Next out we have a pair of black studs.  These are okay and will go with the bracelet they sent last month as well.  These are bigger than something I would normally wear that isn’t dangly so they’ll put me out of my comfort zone.

This is a jeweled bracelet.  The back is a pleather band with two snaps for adjusting it on your wrist.  I like the way this looks on me and the smaller of the settings fits, so it doesn’t twist around.

This is a hair clip.  It looks like it’ll get tight enough to hold my fine hair.  It has teeth in the top to grip and the clip goes across the whole thing.

This is the greatest thing in the box!  It might be the greatest thing I’ve received all month actually.  It is a poncho shawl and it is going to work with me!  It is freezing in my office and half the time I keep my coat on.  This is wonderful and big enough to wrap around and covers all the way past my backside.

All of the items come with the L.V.Kiki brand tags on them so I found a few of them on their site.  I have a few misses with items in these boxes but it’s just one of two of the things, never a whole box.   It almost seems like a steal at the prices I paid.  If the rest of my boxes are as good as this one was for me I will be more than happy.  I think this will be one of those boxes that was a great find!

Super Geek Box August 2016

Super Geek Box is a monthly subscription that sends out Geek and Gamer gear.  You always get a shirt but everything else is up in the air.  You could get Funkos or Dorbz, keychains, posters, or stickers.  Every month has a theme that the items are based on so it changes up all the time.  Boxes start at $13.92 plus $13.00 shipping a month but go down with longer plans.  All plans automatically renew so you do need to be careful if you want to cancel.  I’ve resisted getting too deep into the geek boxes just because there are so many and trying to pick is pretty difficult.  All of them are really varied and from looking at past boxes I decided to give Super Geek Box a try.  This month’s theme is Colossal.

20160908_192058 20160908_192122

I don’t think they could have stuffed anything else in this box.  It is right full, front to back, and top to bottom.

20160908_192243 20160908_192254

They have a good info sheet that tells you everything you want to know about what’s inside.

Nintendo Donkey Kong Plush

Who doesn’t love DK?  I have so many memories of playing this on many versions of Nintendo.  This guy will more than likely end up going to the girls but he is great and I love him.

Nerdcre8 SGB Exclusive Mega Hero Sleep Mask

Big Hero 6 was a favourite in this house for a while so I know who this one is.  I have about four sleep masks so I don’t need another one but that’s never stopped me from buying things before.

Titanfits SGB Exclusive Gamma Rage Socks

Now these are the kinda socks I want to get!  I thought they were Hulk but I guess not.  Either way they make me happy and they are going on my feet.

SGB Exclusive Megamorph Mighty Pin

The info sheet tells me this is better then a life restoring mushroom, it grants colossal strength.  I don’t care for buttons or pins so this is not for me.

SGB Exclusive Saving Mushroom Kingdom Poster

Koopa king versus Godzilla?  I’m all for the Koopa winning this one.  Though I have some hard feelings for that floating monster throwing turtles at me.  I lost so many times…..

SGB Exclusive Just Do It Later T-Shirt

I absolutely love this shirt!!!!  It expresses everything I feel about working out.  They shipped it out in two different shades of blue and I’m not certain which one I got but I’m happy with it and think it’ll go perfectly with my socks from above.

While this month isn’t quite as good as last month, it’s still really good. The only thing I dislike is the pin and I have no real use for the poster but at least they are from things I like.  The shirt rules!!  That’s the big gamble with the geek boxes, if you get a theme for something you are not a fan of, the whole box can be a letdown.  Next month’s theme is Rumble, and they are promising Nintendo items and a Smashing t-shirt.

LookFantastic Beauty Box September 2016

Look Fantastic Beauty Box is a box from the UK and you will receive a minimum of six products.   Those products will be an assortment of skin, hair, cosmetic and body products.  There also are sometimes high value surprises added to a few boxes randomly.  They promise to have a much higher value than what you pay each month as well.  They have free worldwide delivery on the boxes or things you order from the website. Boxes are $26 a month but go down with 3,6 or 12 month subscriptions.  Shipping was pretty quick for overseas and I received tracking notices as well.  The stuff I’ve been getting in this box has been really nice.  This one was a find and I really enjoy it.  I had ended my subscription but with the exchange rate being better right now and the fact that I love this box I signed back up.

This month is their 2nd Birthday and they wrapped it up with a bow.

They always include a mini mag that tells you what’s in your box, plus tips and lifestyle ideas.

Argan Liquid Gold BB Cream-10mL $40.60

Holy cow this BB cream is expensive.  It must be awesome.  The shade it is works for me.  The coverage on my hand seems nice so I’m hoping when I actually use it on my face it’ll be worth that crazy dollar figure.

Bare Minerals Mini Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready-1.5g $12.68

I love this brand!  I have quite a bit of their makeup and they have some amazing lipsticks.  This colour is a darker pink that I really like.  This stuff feels great on your lips and  leaves them soft and wonderful.

20160916_112036 20160916_111849

Lord And Berry Mini Luminizer Stick-0.7g $?

There was a card in my box letting me know that the item listed was substitute for another.  I’m not really sure what I did get but it is a shimmery liner of some sort.  It might be a highlighter or an eyeliner.  I like the colour.

Bliss Lemon And Sage Maximum Moisture Cream-30mL $5.71

I love Bliss lotions.  I’ve never had this scent before but it is so fresh and wonderful.  The lotions absorb fast and leaves no greasy feeling at all.  If it wasn’t so expensive this would be the only lotion I would use.

Christophe Robin Purifying Shampoo-75mL $14.62

As much as I hate only getting one or the other of a hair care product in a box, the other times I’ve received a product from this brand I was really impressed with how nice it made my hair.  This shampoo smells nice and I’m sure it will work fine.

Gatineau Collagene Expert Eye Pads-$10.44

I think eye pads are a fantastic thing.  I do have to wait till the kids go to bed to have enough uninterrupted time to lay still and use them but I think they do make a difference.

This month had a value of $84.05, plus the liner. This month’s mix was great. The best part about LookFantastic  is that they have sales all the time and free worldwide shipping so if you want more of anything or find other things on their site it’s simple to get.  I’m really glad I went for them again and the new billing procedure is simpler than before so there are no worries there.  If you are looking for a beauty box to try, this would have to be my recommendation, hands down.

KidPackz August 2016

KidPackz is a monthly delivery of school supplies.  They send out things that your children might need for either home or school based on the grade level and gender of your child.  They don’t offer a kindergarten box so we chose the Grade 1 level.  They also include an educational toy in each box.  For summer months they say they will include more games and toys instead of supplies.  Boxes start at $15 per month but go down with longer plans.  Shipping to Canada is $2.50 per box.  I love school supplies and quite honestly could supply my children for most of their school lives but this will get us more things and provide both them and me with shiny new items to use.

20160904_180413 20160904_180427

The box is just plain with the logo in the corner.  Opening it up, it was full!  There was all sorts of things in here.

We can always use new crayons.  This is a box of 48, with the built in sharpener.  Crayons seem to magically disappear in  our house so this basic item is perfect.

Both of the girls are still too young to use markers without a lot of supervision.  These are washable, which is good, but will still be put away for a little bit.

To finish off the colouring triumvirate we have a 10 pack of pencil crayons.  We have an art easel so there is a roll of paper calling these ones names.

This is cool!  It is a My Little Pony chlakboard set.  It has an eraser, chalk, and the board.  I should give this to the kids but I kinda really want it for myself.  Decisions, decisions.

20160904_180537 20160904_180605

Next out we had a pencil case full of goodies.  The case seems more grown-up then I would have thought for a Gr.1 but it’s well made.  Inside are 2 mechanical pencils, a glue stick, a pencil hugger, an eraser, three shaped erasers, and a fish pencil sharpener.  I’m in love.

There is also four regular pencils in neon colours.  We (I) have about 100 assorted pencils but that has never stopped me from buying more anyways and these can join the herd.

This is a 70 sheet notebook.  It is one subject and fully lined.  The cover is plastic so it shouldn’t get all torn up with use.

Hot pink zebra pocket folder?  Of course we need one of those!  We might have a few years before we need this but they are good to have around.

20160904_180702 20160904_180709

There is also two sheets of stickers.  Both girls are right into Finding Dory so there is a clamour for me to hand these over.  The other ones are more teacher-ish but for playing the girls just like that they are shiny.

This is my first month of this box and for a back to school month it is perfect.  There was a good chunk of these items that were on our supply list for Kindergarten and shows that they know what is needed.  They did a good job making some of it items my girls are into and like.  If you sign up now you can use the code “LAUNCH” to get 5% off your order.

Game Box Monthly August 2016

Game Box Monthly is a subscription box that sends you out a new tabletop board or card game every month.  They say they will ask you about your preferences and what you already own so they can not send you duplicates but that did not happen with me.  I did find the spot later on their website though.   Boxes start at $25.00 a month but do go down with longer plans.  Shipping is $10.00 a month, which is more than I would normally want to pay but I signed up for this one when they had a great deal on (50% off) and that balanced out everything so I went for it.  I love playing games and though it’s been a struggle to do with the kids being little and needy right now I’m hoping to get back into it soon.

They sent a card telling you about the main game and what you need to do to play.

20160904_175206 20160904_175215

Four Taverns-$32.77

This is a game for 2-4 players, aged 12 and up.  You try to have the most famous tavern in the land by sending adventurers on quests.  Whoever gets the most wins.  There are various types of characters and you need to use them all to beat the quests.  Each game takes 20-60 minutes to complete.

20160904_175141 20160904_175149

X Marks The Spot-$29.48

The bonus item this month is another game!  This is a tile laying game where you try to make an X pattern before your opponent does.  This one is also for 2-4 players, aged 10 and up, and takes 30-45 minutes to play.

The month had a value of $62.25, taking Canadian prices from Amazon.   I changed my preferences on the site to be more board game heavy instead of card game but it doesn’t seem to have made much of a difference.   Now if I can just convince Hubby to play with me we’ll be all set.

The Fan Empire August 2016

The Fan Empire is a monthly subscription that sends you out 4-6 peices of fandom merchandise.  Items can be anything from posters to t-shirts and are based around a different theme each month.  Previous fandoms include The Hunger Games and Harry Potter.  Boxes start at $14.95 a month but do go down a little with a longer plan.  Shipping to Canada was $5.50.  I am always wary of the fandom boxes because if you get a month that is not one of yours then it can feel like a waste.  Let’s see how we get on with this one.

Everything arrived in a bubble mailer with a sticker on the front.

20160915_180904 20160915_180857

The info card gave a pretty clear picture of the theme this month, “I Solemnly Swear”.  It’s Harry Potter themed, which I love so this should be a good month.

Marauders Map Pillow Case

This is cool.  You just add a 16 inch pillow form and you have a great addition to your house.  I don’t think any of my current pillows will fit but forms are pretty cheap so getting one will be easy.

I Solemnly Swear Pocket Mirror

The back of this is a small mirror.  I didn’t know what it was when I was taking photos so that’s why I didn’t get one of the back.  I thought it was a magnet, right up until it didn’t stick to my fridge.

Message In A Bottle Necklace

This necklace has a leather tie and in the bottle is a tiny Marauders map.  I’m not sure I’ll wear it but it’ll look good hanging off one of my HP pictures.

20160915_181131 20160915_181136

Marauders Map Key-Chain

I am getting quite the collection of key-chains.  This one is metal and on the back it has the phrase that makes the map work.

20160915_180916 20160915_180922

The Marauder Boys Bookmark

One can never have too many bookmarks. I always have more than one book on the go so I need plenty of them.

I’m very happy with this months bag.  I am a Potterhead so this is all stuff I like and am glad to get.  There was no issue with the card this month, and they were quite late but she had sent an email saying that would happen.  September’s theme is going to be Fandom Symbols.

Klean Box Awesome Ice Cream August 2016

Klean Box is a surprise box full of bath and beauty items from KleanKristi on Etsy.  Each month she sends out a box full of items she makes herself and sometimes she includes items from fellow Etsy sellers as well.  Boxes start at $20 per month and you can get 6 or 12 month plans as well.  She only ships to the United States but due to an ordering glitch on Etsy I was able to order it.  Thankfully we were able to work out a deal with the shipping because it’s rather high to ship to Canada and I was disappointed to possible have to cancel my order.  Kristi has been fabulous to deal with and I’m hopeful with what I’m going to be getting!

20160911_174320 20160911_174329

Things were all wrapped up in this box.  I love the polka dot tissue and ribbon.  I could smell something good in here.

The info card is just so cute.  It tells you what’s in the box, who made it, and the retail price.

Ice Cream Wish Bracelet-$3.49

This is made by Solitary Sandpiper.  You tie it on your wrist, make a wish, and then when it wears off your wish will come true.  I think it’s neat and will put it on, but I’m not sharing my wish with you!

Neapolitan Soap-$7.00

This is made by Kristi and it is huge!  It is a mix of glycerin and shea butter soaps.  It’s so weird though because the top layer is kinda squishy.  I don’t even want to use it though because it’s so cute.

Chocolate Ice Cream Lip Sugar Scrub-$4.00

I love the packaging on this.  This is another one made by Kristi.  If you look close you can see that she even has put sprinkles on the top.  I don’t use lip scrubs too often but since this is smaller I might use it up.

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Fragranced Nail Polish-$8.50

This is a very pale mint colour with black flecks.  This polish is also made by Kristi.  It has a faint sweet smell but not really a mint chip scent.  It has a nice shimmer and I like it.

Bamboo Wash Cloth Ice Cream Treat-$4.00

This is also very cute.  The cone and drips are paper and the cloth is the scoop.  There is a plastic cherry stuck to the top.  I think that once I pull it out it will just unfold and be ready to go.

Ice Cream Packaged Foot Socks-$2.50

These are made to be worn with a low cut summer shoe.  It’ll cover your toes and stop things from rubbing.  I have a few pairs of these but none that came in pink and look like and ice cream cone.

Ice Cream Earrings-$4.00

These are made by Island Jewelry Art.  One is yellow and one is pink.  They are about an inch tall.  They are cute but not really something I would wear.

Ice Cream Colored Pen-$2.00

I love pens and this one is cute.  It writes in pink ink and flows smoothly.  It is a little smaller then a regular pen but as long as it writes I’ll put it to use.

20160911_174543 20160911_174549

Ice Cream Sticky Notes-$3.00

The only thing better then a pen is sticky notes!  This has the cone and then three different coloured scoops.  These will be great to annoy my co-workers with.

20160911_174415 20160911_174420

This double sided print is a bonus item.  It is nice and I like both sides.

There was also Kristi’s card, Island Jewelry’s card, and a discount code for items in the shop.

This was my second box from Klean Box and it was great.  The box has a value of $38.49, which is good.  Everything in it fit the theme perfectly and the main items were handmade, which is what you expect from anything on Etsy.  I can’t wait to get more boxes from here and am now even more excited that I was able to actually get the box.

Julep Maven September 2016

Julep Maven is a monthly beauty box full of their own brand of cosmetics and nail polishes.  You can take the box they select or trade out items and colours to get exactly what you want each month.  You also get access to their online store before anyone else each month and can add on any amount of extras you want (paying for them on top of your box of course).  When you sign up you take a little quiz so they get to know your likes and can curate your box just for you.  All items in the box are full sized.   Boxes start at $24.99 a month but they do go down if you pick a longer plan.  They are also always giving away something for joining so make sure you look around a bit first.  I got a set of items worth $112.00 for free!  I have waited quite a while before joining this one as they mostly are nail polish and I don’t need anymore of that but since you can customize your box I was able to reduce the polish and up the makeup.

20160913_143605 20160913_143624

They really love them some purple at Julep and it makes it fun.  I must have missed the email telling me about my box this month so I didn’t get to switch out any items.  I don’t really want more nail polish so that makes me sad but this polish is very good and doesn’t chip for a long time.  I am slightly confused though because when I check my account none of this is what it says I was receiving this month.

When Pencil Met Gel in Gilded Gold Shimmer-$12.80

“A waterproof eye pencil with the formula of a gel eyeliner that glides on smoothly without tugging or skipping. Sets in 30 seconds and provides 10+ hours of wear. Ophthalmologist tested.” I love love love these liners so I’m happy to get another one.  They really are smudge-proof.  I can rub it and rub it and it never moves.  Best liner ever!

Wonder Maven Polish in Shirley-$11.20

This is a gray/army green shade with gold micro shimmer.  It is a colour that I can easily wear to the office and have it look professional.  It’s probably not something I would have chosen for myself but I kinda like it.

Wonder Maven Polish is Meredith-$11.20

This is a pale teal shade with just a hint of shimmer.  This is very much one I would pick out and I think it’ll be on my fingers pretty soon.

This was my third Julep Maven box and for not choosing the items, I’m  happy with it.  I love the liner.   The items had a value of $35.20 and I used the Maven pricing, which is better than regular retail.  If you want to try them out or really like nail polish, click here to visit their site.
