Glam Style Of The Day July 2016

Glam Style Of The Day is a monthly subscription box that helps you to be stylish on a budget.  It will include jewelry and a top plus a possibility of makeup or skin care.  You can choose from a mini glam box or the regular monthly box.  Prices are $18 and $20 respectively. They offer longer plans but there is no discount to joining that way.   Shipping to Canada is $9.00 a month.  They ask you a few questions to get your sizes for the shirt and then you’re on your way.  I snagged this on a Mother’s Day sale and got it for 50% off, which made it a great deal!  I’m spending more time in an office environment lately so I am sorely needing accessories to switch up a rather limited wardrobe.

20160725_175415

This one ships in a plain brown box with the logo sticker on it.

20160725_175426 20160725_175456

Inside things were cheerfully packed in bright yellow tissue.  It looked a bit empty once I opened that but thankfully it was all just tucked to one corner and hidden under things.

20160725_175434

They don’t include a product list but there is this letter telling you why July is awesome and how much fun they had picking these items for each of their subscribers.

20160725_175534

This month be the month of makeup bags.  I’ve received a few in different boxes but they are all different so it’s okay.  This one is gold and has a wrist strap.  It’s a nice size for getting all your stuff in and the strap makes it easy to carry around.

20160725_175546

This is the second beauty blender I’ve received this month as well.  The brains behind the boxes must all be on the same page this month.  I can always use more of these since they can get a bit yucky, even with proper washing.

20160725_175600

These are the hugest hoops I have ever owned!  They are gold and wonderfully light so they shouldn’t bug my ears that much.  They are so large they actually hit my shoulders.

20160725_175616

This is a stackable set of three bangles.  I’m not all that fond of the largest one, which is pink and blue, but the gold one and the solid pink one are nice.  I have tiny wrists so these are all quite large on me but end up sitting half way up my forearm and being fine.

20160725_175808

These earrings have a pearl center with diamond accents around them.  They are not something I would ever pic for myself and I’ll need to convince myself to wear them but beyond not being my style there is nothing wrong with them.

20160725_175732

The top this month is super cute!  It is a pale yellow tank top with a large sheer asymmetrical ruffle along the bottom.  The top itself is thin and would need another tank underneath if you didn’t want the whole world to see what your bra looked like.

This month is beck to being what I expected when I signed up.  I like almost everything in here this month.  I still have no idea what the next month is going to bring me and I kinda like it.

Super Geek Box July 2016

Super Geek Box is a monthly subscription that sends out Geek and Gamer gear.  You always get a shirt but everything else is up in the air.  You could get Funkos or Dorbz, keychains, posters, or stickers.  Every month has a theme that the items are based on so it changes up all the time.  Boxes start at $13.92 plus $13.00 shipping a month but go down with longer plans.  All plans automatically renew so you do need to be careful if you want to cancel.  I’ve resisted getting too deep into the geek boxes just because there are so many and trying to pick is pretty difficult.  All of them are really varied and from looking at past boxes I decided to give Super Geek Box a try.  This month’s theme is Sidekick.

20160720_175353 20160720_175414

So I opened this box and actually squealed.  My husband thought something was wrong with me but in fact I couldn’t have been happier with what I saw!

20160720_175645 20160720_175657

They have a nice info card that tells you about the items this month.  They also show the different options if there was any that month.

20160720_175443

Funko POP Vinyl Marvel Dancing Groot

This was the item that has me all excited.  I freaking love Groot and to get the baby Groot from the end of the movie, who is soooooo cute and fun and just everything perfect.  This has made up for any box that was ever not great across any subscription I have. So HAPPY!

20160720_175502

SGB Beer-Mo Can Cooler

This koozie is an Adventure Time reference.  I don’t watch that one but have a basic reference of the characters.  I honestly don’t think we own a koozie so this is a good thing I guess.

20160720_175536

SGB Loyal Buddies Dual Tag Necklace

Well they sure got the timing right with this one.  Original Pokemon characters are on the dog tags.  This isn’t really my thing but I know the girls always enjoy another necklace to add to their jewel treasures.

20160720_175615

SGB 16 Bit Gaming Pop-Art Decal

Who doesn’t love Yoshi?  This sticker has him in all his glorious colour options.  I’m not sure where I need to put this but I know I’ll think of something.  Yoshi rocks!

20160720_175604

SGB PocketPal T-Shirt Modifier

This is an iron on transfer to make it look like you have Adventure Time in your pocket.  I think I might now someone who would like this because I won’t use it.  It’s neat though and something new that I’ve never seen in a box before.

20160720_175732

SGB Exclusive R8-D8 Droid Fusion T-Shirt

This month’s shirt is a mash up of the old droid and the new droid from Star Wars.  I’m sure to a die hard fan this is some type of sacrilege but since I don’t qualify as one, I think it’s okay.  Not my favourite shirt from them but since Groot makes up for everything, it’s good.

If you haven’t guessed, I love this months box.  Groot is fantastic and Yoshi is good to.  The rest of the stuff is fine though not really my fandoms. The shirt is just okay, since they are usually so awesome.  That’s the big gamble with the geek boxes, if you get a theme for something you are not a fan of, the whole box can be a letdown.  Next month’s theme is Colossal, and they are promising a gaming gear and their best shirt yet  in it.

The Hippie Hobby July 2016

The Hippie Hobby is a bi-monthly subscription box that sends you a DIY craft kit that will incorporate recycled, up-cycled, and natural elements.  They promise to send you everything you need, so even if you’re a beginner crafter you’ll never be caught out missing supplies.  Boxes start at $23.95 plus $5.99 shipping to Canada.  There are discounts for 3 or 6 month plans.  Since boxes are every other month, a 6 month plan gets you a year.  I am always looking for craft boxes and most are either way too expensive for me or the shipping is ridiculous so I’m hoping this one will bring me joy.

20160724_182125

This box is very fun and I love the parachute.  You can easily tell what box is coming to you when this one shows up.

20160724_182153 20160724_182204

They make it look so inviting when you open the lid.  The burlap band just adds that little something to make it special.  Peeling back that you can see all your items to make whatever surprises there are this month.

20160724_182211

The instruction sheet is very nicely done.  They show you completed images of the crafts on the cover and detailed step by step instructions inside.

20160724_182220 20160724_182318

The main craft this month is DIY Floating Candles.  They give you wax flakes, a decorative mold, citronella fragrance oil, wicks, and toothpicks.  You need to provide a bowl, oven mitt, cooking spray, and a spoon.  You melt the wax, add the oil, pour it into the mold and let them set, pop them out like ice cubes, and then put them in any holder that you can fill with water.  I’ve never made candles before so this is going to be fun!

20160724_182227 20160724_182408

The bonus craft is DIY Dinnerware Packets.  You get bags, stickers, paper straws, S&P packets, napkins, and a pencil and you supply the cutlery.  This would be so cute for a bbq or picnic.  I can’t believe they even give you the salt and pepper!

This month is wonderful.  I like the idea of making something that will be used instead of simply being decorative.  The crafts are not crazy complicated and still they look like they would be not tacky.  It doesn’t matter too much to me that they are encouraging recycling or upcycling but there isn’t a downside to that. However this month there is nothing that is actually fits either of those.   I don’t think that you can accurately value a box like this but it’s probably fair.  Having two months to make these up before another box arrives means I may actually get them done.

Teruffic Box July 2016

Teruffic Box is a monthly box for dogs that sends out toys, treats, and bones.  They do give a portion of their proceeds to no-kill shelters, which is nice.  They have seven box options to choose from, ranging from Puppy, Heavy Chewer, Toy, or Multipup.  They start at $27.00 and go up to $33.00.  Shipping to Canada is $5.00 a box.  Once you pick a box you get to choose from 5 dog sizes as well.  You then get 3 treat type options, birthday options, and then you choose your plan length.  I picked up a 6-month plan off Groupon so while I hadn’t been planning on getting the dogs another box at this point, it was worth it.  They are going through some site changes right now but if you sign up everything should be fine.

20160722_152945 20160722_152955

This box always gives me a bit of a hassle in that they ship via FedEx and I have yet to be home when they show up.  They then call you every day until you pick it up.  The box looks like it has some fun toys right on the top.  Archie is always in need of those.

20160722_153005 20160722_153015

Jolly Tug Crab and Turtle

Archie doesn’t do tug of wars but he does like toys that he can cuddle with .  The center ball of these are squeakers so that is even better for him.  He’s been chewing on these for a couple of days now and they haven’t lost any limbs or parts so they are durable too.

20160722_153022 20160722_153028

Fruitables Natural Dog Treats in Pumpkin & Blueberry and Pumpkin & Banana

These are a low calorie dog treat.  They are natural (the name gave it away), and wheat, corn, soy, artificial colour and preservative free.  They are a hard treats and my only issue is that I selected a large dog box and these are fairly small treats.  I guess that is what makes them low calorie.

20160722_153036

Greenies Dog Chew

These are a treat we’ve had before and Archie loves them.  I like that they are better then plain rawhide chews for him.  He tends to not have “issues” with these ones like he can get with some bones.

This box is still working out for us. The toys are made for the large dog and he hasn’t been able to destroy them.  The treats this month are a bit small but the stuff that is not in them, makes up for that.  You can really tell that they put effort into making this box just for you.  I’ve had to contact them twice, just to minor billing questions and both times the online chat got me set up in just a few minutes.  They are a new company and I think they will only get better.

LookFantastic Beauty Box July 2016

Look Fantastic Beauty Box is a box from the UK and you will receive a minimum of six products.   Those products will be an assortment of skin, hair, cosmetic and body products.  There also are sometimes high value surprises added to a few boxes randomly.  They promise to have a much higher value than what you pay each month as well.  They have free worldwide delivery on the boxes or things you order from the website. Boxes are $26 a month but go down with 3,6 or 12 month subscriptions.  Shipping was pretty quick for overseas and I received tracking notices as well.  The stuff I’ve been getting in this box has been really nice.  This one was a find and I really enjoy it.  I had ended my subscription but with the exchange rate being better right now and the fact that I love this box I signed back up.

20160722_153141 20160722_153231

The box this month is bright pink!  It tells the theme of Summer Lovin’ and everything is nestled inside with those hated squiggles.

20160722_153218

They have a great info booklet included.  It tells you more on how the theme relates to the items, a rundown of the items and how to use them, tips on getting some current on trend looks, some other items to help you with summer skin and hair problems, and a few lifestyle articles.

20160722_153134

They also include the current copy of ElleUK.

20160722_153416

This Works In Transit Camera Close-Up-20mL $26.10

The Editor’s Pick this month is a mask, moisturizer, and primer in one.  I love primers and this one works really well.  My pores are noticeably less visible.  It uses hyaluronic acid, starflower oils, and caffeine to boost radiance and add moisture, while making a great base.  It doesn’t leave you with a matte finish but that dewy look that is perfect for summer.

20160722_153332

Benefit Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil-0.11g $1.20

I like everything about this except the fact that they sent out shade number 6, which is the darkest one available.  I have pretty light brows so it’ll be a challenge to use this.  Benefit is one of my favourite brands and if the shade was closer to what I need I’d be thrilled.

20160722_153423

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Or-10mL $5.62

I know I say it every time but I can’t get enough of Nuxe products.  They have such a great scent and work beautifully with my skin.  This dry oil gives you a gentle shimmer and they recommend using this instead of a fake tan.  I’ve received this before and it’s just great.

20160722_153411

Kebelo Silk Anti-Frizz Cream Serum-15mL $8.87

This is a leave in serum that smooths hair and adds shine.  It also reduces drying time so your hair gets less damaged by styling.  I’ve used a few other products from this brand and they were just okay for me so hopefully this one is a better experience.

20160722_153402

BellaPierre Lip And Cheek Stain-5g $22.60

I never manage to make these dual items work for me.  This will be a great lip tint and it’s not a bright pink once it’s on.  If you are one of those who can make it work as a cheek tint too, it becomes a great item to toss in your bag or take on your travels.

20160722_153256

Miti Bobbles-3pk $8.61

These are apparently professional hair ties.  I have very long hair and am always interested in new ways to keep it corralled.  These are supposed to not leave dents in your hair and reduce snags.  If nothing else they look fun.

This month had a value of $73.00, plus the magazine. This month’s mix was great. The best part about LookFantastic  is that they have sales all the time and free worldwide shipping so if you want more of anything or find other things on their site it’s simple to get.  I’m really glad I went for them again and the new billing procedure is simpler than before so there are no worries there.  If you are looking for a beauty box to try, this would have to be my recommendation, hands down.

Curiosity Box July 2016

Curiosity Box is a Canadian monthly subscription that sends out craft and activity boxes for children 3-7.  They hope to inspire curiosity and creativity in kids and help families have quality time together.  You can buy single boxes or 3,6,and 12 month plans.  You can also get Curiosity Kits that are made for birthday parties, homeschooling or daycare groups.  Single boxes start at $26.55 and plans begin at $26.50/month and go down with longer subscriptions.  Shipping within Canada in included!  In the monthly plans they include an item from their current partner and in the months published, a copy of Parent’s Canada magazine.  I have been looking to replace the craft one I was getting for Bug so finding one and a Canadian one to boot is awesome!

20160722_163203

Curiosity Box ships in a regular brown box with a sticker letting you know what’s inside.

20160722_163210 20160722_163224

Opening the lid, you can see that they take care with the packaging.  Underneath that is all the fun stuff for your kids.  This month is all about Ocean Fun.

20160722_163251 20160722_163258

The trifold info sheet tells you not only what projects you will be making, which items are for each one, the instructions for them, other activities that follow the theme, and some fun facts to share and learn.

20160722_163348

Project one is an Ocean Journal.  You use a foam cover, pages, stickers, and a lacing cord to create a blank journal for anything you need to write down.  It gives you a chance to worth on fine motor skills with the lacing and be creative decorating it.

20160722_163406

Project two is a Beaded Ocean Friend Necklace.  Everything you need is in the one bag and you thread the beads and charm on the string to make the necklace.  We have done a few of these before and Bug always enjoys them.

20160722_163514

Project three is a Funny Octopus.  You use the cup, pipe cleaners, jewel stickers, eyeballs, and pompoms to create your own crazy critter.  This should be a fun one and our big issue will be to stop Bear from dismantling it afterwards.

20160722_163626 20160722_163657

This is the activity for the month, Shark Craft and Game.  You build the paper plate shark and then throw the sticky fish at it to get points.  They also included a score sheet so you can keep a tally.

20160722_163650 20160722_163725 20160722_163713

The bonus activities included this month are a ocean memory game (we need to cut out the pieces), a colouring and activity book with crayons, and some tattoos and a stamp.

20160722_163732

The brand partner for the month is Brandow Soap Co.  They sent along a sample of Summer Slushie Bath Fizzie.  You just dump this into a bath and watch it fizz away, releasing scent and colour.

I think this is going to be a good box for Bug.  She loves these kind of crafts, and I like that most are simple and quick enough to do before bed or supper.  The crafts seem to be coming from Oriental Trading and I’m fine with that because I would totally be ordering from there myself if I could figure out hat to do with the 17 other packages of the same crafts you need to buy at once.  The instructions are clear and the additional activities don’t require crazy supplies no one would have.  I am grateful to find any Canadian boxes and am glad to support them.  If you want to join this one, send me a message and I can give you a code for a discount off a 3 month plan.

LaRitzy LaMini June 2016

LaRitzy is a monthly box of vegan beauty items.  They select surprise items and send them along to you to try.  They offer two box sizes, La Ritzy, which gives you 4-5 full and luxury sized items, and LaMini, which is 2-3 items.  Boxes start at $24.99 and $14.99 respectively, but they do give a discount on longer term plans.  Shipping is free for the US, $5.00 for Canada, and $10.00 Internationally.  I am not vegan but I was looking for a reasonably priced makeup box and this one fits that so the fact that they items are vegan doesn’t matter to me.  Let’s see what the box brings.

20160718_142049 20160718_142110

I’m not sure if you can see it clearly but in the top left corner of the box something has leaked.  They had sent out an email about this because I guess some of the people who had received boxes earlier than others had let them know stuff was a mess.  As a way to make up for this they sent all subscribers a code to use in the shop for $10.00.

20160718_142104 20160718_142126

The card let’s everyone know that this is the last box of this type.  This was also communicated via email a while before the boxes shipped.  They are switching their service from vegan beauty to their own line of cruelty-free cosmetics.  You will now receive 3 full-sized beauty items.  Anyone on a plan will have their terms fulfilled, just switched to the new boxes.

20160718_142139

Jersey Shore Spa Anti-Aging Lip & Hand Polish-$25.00

This is a scrub made from brown sugar.  You can use it both on your hands, to reveal younger looking skin, or on your lips, to exfoliate and smooth them.  This one is Vanilla Bean scented and did leave my softer then when I started.

20160718_142218

Pretty Woman NYC White Ceramic Nail Lacquer-$7.99

You could have received either blue or white and honestly I’d rather have the blue.  I will not wear white polish and I don’t do any fancy nail art so I wouldn’t even use it for accents.  It is a matte finish polish and they included a code JULY20 to get 20% off any purchase direct from them.

20160718_142153

Mahogany Naturals Monoi Healing Oil Serum-$65.00

This is the leaking item.  The bottle is about half full now.  It smells really pretty and is for your hair.  It strengthens hair and adds shine, while reducing frizz.  You can use it on dry or damp hair.

Besides the leaking oil, I think this was an okay box.  All of the item seem to be full sized, which is nice, and while I dislike the polish, it’s not a bad item, just not my preference.  The value this month is $97.99, which is huge!  It’ll be interesting to see how the new boxes compare and what types of items will be in there.

Beauteque BB Bag June 2016

The Beauteque BB Bag is a monthly subscription that sends you out 6-8 full sized products from make-up, skin care, beauty tools, body care, hair care, or lifestyle products.  It is Asian beauty products that are included and I love all the odd things they include.  They do offer a mask only bag as well that will send you 9-11 masks.  Bags start at $24 or $15 for the masks and do go down with longer plans. Shipping to here was $6.95/month.

20160718_142337 20160718_142351

This one ships in a large outer box.  Usually there is at least one thing that is too big to fit into the bag so they pop it in the box and ship it out.

20160718_142405 20160718_142416

The theme for this month is Dessert For Your Skin.  The card lists all your items, including both if there was variable items sent out.  It also gives you the value of the items and the English instructions on how to use them.  A few of the products might have English on them but most do not.

20160718_142501

I really like the bag this month!  It is a canvas bag and the bottom is covered in vinyl. It also is lined on the inside.  It’s bright and summery and bigger then your standard makeup bag.

20160718_142641

Beauty Blending Sponge-$9.00

I have an actual Beauty Blender one of these but they get grungy after awhile, even if you clean them so I’m glad to get another one.  It is a bit more pointy then the one I have so it might be easier to get into corners and blend it out.

20160718_142444

Skinfood Black Sugar Mask-$11.99

This looks kinda gross but it smells fantastic!  I find it odd that it has the scrubby texture of sugar but it’s a mask.  It uses minerals, vitamins, and glycolic acid to clean your pores and brighten skin.  You rub it on and leave it for 15 minutes before rinsing.

20160718_142611 20160718_142622

Holika Holika Dessert Time Lip Balm-$10.00

This cute little container has quite a lot of lip balm in it.  I can’t tell what scent it is but it smells nice and it not strong.  It makes my lips feel nice and soft.  I have seen these in much smaller packs and I’m glad to get one that has enough room to get my finger in there and not make a mess.  There were varying styles of this sent out.

20160718_142513

Purederm Vital Radiance Hair Mask in Honey-$4.00

This hair mask is used in place of conditioner.  It is for colour-treated, bleached, or permed hair.  Luckily I qualify for one of those.  It promises to nourish hair weakened by treating and smooth out the hair scales.  Worth a try.

20160718_142527 20160718_142543

The Saem Chocopie Hand Cream-$12.00

I freaking love the fact that these types of things are normal to a group of people. I mean, how cute and great is this???  Now if only I had received any scent besides banana.  Who on earth would want to smell like a banana?  The lotion itself is nice, not greasy and absorbing quickly.

20160718_142706

Yadah Silky Fit Concealer BB Sensitive Skin-$22.00

We were supposed to receive  Holika Holika Cover Hiding Concealer No.2 but they had some shipping issues and the boxes went out late.. To make up for this they upgraded everyone’s item to this one.  This has two parts to it, the top is a solid concealer and in the tube is the BB cream.  Both are of a good shade for my skin and give a nice even finish.  I would have been happy with either item but one can not really have too much BB cream on hand.

My fourth continues the awesomeness of the rest..  This month’s value is $68.99, which is fabulous.  I’ve had a bit of regret with a few boxes lately but this one is not one of those! As I noted last month,  I have already seen all the spoilers for next month because they send them out, which I don’t care for.  I want to be surprised and usually avoid the spoilers from other people so it’s frustrating to get the emails.  I choose to delete them without opening.

NextSock July 2016

NextSock is a monthly subscription that sends you out completely random socks.  You can choose between mens or womens and you get two pairs each month for $20.00.  I picked this one up on a Groupon and got a three month plan for $30.00, which is half price.  There is $4.00 shipping to Canada but that’s not so bad.  One of my other sock plans has ended so I thought this would be a good way to stock up for the summer.

20160721_174307 20160721_174330

This months socks are slightly less bold then last month but I still like both pairs.  The ones on the left are an argyle look but some of the squares are hearts instead.  The other pair just have random stripes in four colours.  They are not crazy but they still are not normal so I’m okay with it.  As with last month, there is no other things in the bag to tell you what you received or ever who it was from.

I’m a little less happy with my second month since I always want extra crazy styles and colours.  However there is nothing wrong with these and I’m sure for most people they are great.  I think that if I’d paid full price I’d feel maybe a bit ripped off.  $10.00 a pair is way more than I’d normally pay.  However since I got these on a deal I’m okay with $5.00 each.  They shipped pretty quickly and besides not knowing what was in it arrived fine.  This Groupon is still on so if you fancy some new socks make sure you go grab it!

Paper & Pen July 2016

Paper & Pen is a monthly subscription box that promises to send out 3-4 paper goods and supplies each month.  They pick items from around the globe and send those unique items to you.  Boxes start at $20 a month but go down with longer plans.  Shockingly for me, shipping is free!  Let’s see what they sent out!

20160715_140725

This one ships in a plain padded envelope.  Inside is this neatly wrapped parcel.  This month they also included a QR code to take you to the page that tells you what items are included.

20160715_140742

The theme this month is Donut Stop Believing, and it looks like everything might be a literal interpretation of that theme.

20160715_140825

Donut Drink Coaster-$0.53

This is so fun!  We don’t have any furniture that requires coasters…..we have small children……so this will just be a toy and it doesn’t matter because I love it.

20160715_140804

Donut Jelly Ink Pen-$1.00 x 2

These are black, fine point, gel pens.  They write smoothly and well they are rather top heavy but not so much that it would get annoying to use.

20160715_140923

Wordcraft Studios “Donut Stop Believing” 4×6 Print-$5.33

How great is this???  I need to frame this and hang it at work immediately.  It could become my life motto.  It is hand-drawn and coloured and it is so cute!

20160715_140852

Bentoto House Donut Washi Tape-$2.85

I have a small stash of washi tape but I think this might be the best one in there.  Who doesn’t want donuts on things?  I will use this soon.

Jojo Larue Watercolor Donut Greeting Cards 4pk-$10.66

This set has four different images and they are blank inside.  It comes with envelopes and I can’t wait to send these off, sealed with the washi from above.  My penpals will hopefully love these!

I’ve been happy with this box.  There is not a ton of stuff in it but that was made clear in their info.  The box this month has a value of $21.37  I like that some of the products are from smaller companies and Etsy companies.  It shows that they really do search out interesting items instead of just buying lots off Amazon.
