Loves It Newfoundland Subscription Box March 2016

Loves It is a box of Newfoundland sourced, hand crafted, home made items.  They are proudly sending out boxes of items they purchase from those local suppliers so that they can show off the greatness of their artists, crafters, and businesses.  They offer both a Standard or a Premium box and monthly or quarterly subscriptions.  Boxes start at $35.00 a month but do go down with longer plans.  There will be 4-7 items per box and they say they will range in value from $40-$75.  I am always on the lookout for Canadian boxes and so while I’m not from Newfoundland nor have I ever been there I was still interested in this box.

It shipped in a plain box with a sticker letting me know what it was and a note to not cut down through the tape.

Once I got it open the reason for that warning was evident.  The products were right there.  The box was well packed and padded so nothing moved around during shipping.  There is no info card included so we’ll see how well I can identify things.

Indigena Skincare Partridgeberry Bath Soak-80g $8.00 Full Size

According to their website Indigena is Atlantic Canada’s most loved skincare brand.  This bath soak is made to help hydrate, calm, cool, and exfoliate your skin.  It has wild harvested and organic essential oils.  This package is enough for 2 baths.  Yay!

Paradise Farms Bee Natural Beeswax Emergency Candle-$4.50

I love the smell of beeswax candles!  While I will more than likely just burn this like a regular candle it is actually made to be used by outdoor enthusiasts or people who are driving a bunch.  It has a six hour burning time and contains no toxins.

20160329_175634 20160329_175649

Purity Blueberry Jam-250mL $3.69

Okay so how awesome is it to get jam in the mail????  This looks and tastes just like my Baba used to make.  According to their website I can buy this here from the company I actually work for……wow.  I shall now be looking for it in the store because it is really tasty.  For some reason my kids do not like jam on toast so yay more for me.  This company makes a whole bunch of different things so I am kinda hoping for more from them in future boxes.

Introspective Design Photo-?

This is a little odd.  This is a photo of I’m guessing a harbour in Newfoundland somewhere.  It is not marked at all though the back is signed by that photographer.  The envelope says to like them of Facebook and there are lots of other photos and giveaways on there.

Anna Stevens Prints Rock Talk Print-$3.00

This is a cute print.  It is obviously shaped like Newfoundland and all the words that make it up are Newfie slang.  I can’t read them without hearing them in Newfie in my head.  I thing their accent is great and would happily sit and listen to them just talk if given the chance.  This print it 4×6″ and I’m going to have to find a frame for it.  It’s a nice touch.

This was my first box from Loves It so I had no idea what to expect to be in it besides it all being from Newfoundland.  I am not disappointed!  The photo is a bit odd but beyond that everything is nice.  There is a good mix of products and it was all full sized so can’t complain about that.  The value this month is $19.19 plus the photo.  That is way short of what they say you should receive because I just can’t see that picture being worth $20.00.  It’s also less than I paid for the box, which is unfortunate.  Hopefully next month will redeem it.  The pictures I’ve seen of their past boxes did look like they had more items so maybe this as just an off month.  If you want to check them out click here to go to their site.

TeeBlox March 2016

TeeBlox is a monthly t-shirt subscription that sends out licensed geek and gamer shirts.  They offer you the choice of 8 different themes.  You can pick from Disney, Marvel, DC Comics, Cartoons, Movies & TV Shows, Games, Beers & Liquors, and Hot Meex.  You get the shirt plus a comic and some stickers usually and prices start at $9.99 a month.  Shipping to Canada is a bit of a downer though at $15/month and that was a surprise because their shipping lists at $2.50 and doesn’t say that it is only for the US.  I went with the Hot Meex theme so I had no clue what to expect for a shirt.

Two more stickers again this month, the one on the left is the TeeBlox logo and then we have Batman!

The comic this month is Sovereign Seven 1, from July 1995.  It looks fun and even if it’s crap you finish reading them in a few minutes and then send them to a thrift shop or recycle them so it’s all good.

This months shirt is a win for me.  Obviously this is a James Dean image and just uses the Rebel part of his movie title.  The picture doesn’t show it well but this is a purple shirt, which I think makes it cooler.  Loving this!!

I think this is going to be a good subscription.  I am miffed about the shipping but beyond that the shirt feels like good quality and it’s not thin at all.  They say they are licensed though I can’t tell either way so I’m going to believe them.  If you want to check them out you can click here.

The Hippie Hobby March 2016

The Hippie Hobby is a bi-monthly subscription box that sends you a DIY craft kit that will incorporate recycled, upcycled, and natural elements.  They promise to send you everything you need, so even if you’re a beginner crafter you’ll never be caught out missing supplies.  Boxes start at $23.95 plus $5.99 shipping to Canada.  There are discounts for 3 or 6 month plans.  Since boxes are every other month, a 6 month plan gets you a year.  I am always looking for craft boxes and most are either way too expensive for me or the shipping is ridiculous so I’m hoping this one will bring me joy.

They ship in a well branded box.  It is nice to know what you’re getting when the mailman hands you a box.

20160324_202612 20160324_202631

The inside was pretty and well packed.  I like the burlap, it makes it feel homey and already crafty.  Under that was my stuff but I slightly moved the pages so you can see more than that.

There is an instruction page that lets you know what the craft you will be doing is and gives detailed directions.

20160324_202653 20160324_202954

The main project this time is DIY Book Page Gem Magnets.  Included to make these are glass gems, magnets, Mod Podge, book pages, foam brush, and super glue.  You do also need scissors and a pencil but honestly if you don’t have those in your house, you probably shouldn’t be crafting anyways.  You can use any paper you want but the ones included are good and I should be able to find words or images that will be good on them.

20160324_202708 20160324_203011

There is a bonus craft too, DIY Book Page Cupcake Toppers.  For this you need toothpicks, Mod Podge, book pages, and glitter.  They give you enough supplies to make 12 toppers and I think it’s a cute idea and a nice way to use up some of the supplies included.

For my first box, I’m happy.  The crafts are not crazy complicated and yet they look like they will be nice enough to give as a gift.  It doesn’t matter too much to me that they are encouraging recycling or upcycling but there isn’t a downside to that.  I don’t think that you can accurately value a box like this but it’s probably fair.  Having two months to make these up before another box arrives means I may actually get them done.

Super Geek Box March 2016

Super Geek Box is a monthly subscription that sends out Geek and Gamer gear.  You always get a shirt but everything else is up in the air.  You could get Funkos or Dorbz, keychains, posters, or stickers.  Every month has a theme that the items are based on so it changes up all the time.  Boxes start at $13.92 plus $13.00 shipping a month but go down with longer plans.  All plans automatically renew so you do need to be careful if you want to cancel.  I’ve resisted getting to deep into the geek boxes just because there are so many and trying to pick is pretty difficult.  All of them are really varied and from looking at past boxes I decided to give Super Geek Box a try.  This month’s theme is Lightning.

The damn shirt is covering all the goodies!  The box looks like it might be full but it’s so hard to see at first glance.

The info card opens up to show you all the items.  If there are options for them it shows all the possible variations available.

Sega Sonic The Hedgehog Keychain Plush

This is so great!  I love it.  This makes a few different sounds that if you ever played Sonic are familiar.  I need to keep this away from my kids because I do not want to share it.  There were three options and if I had to pick I’d have gone for Pikachu but Sonic is pretty awesome.

Super Geek Box Lightning Key Cover

It’s a little Flash!  I think this shall become my work key cover.  You slide your key in to top and this fits over the head of it so you can always identify some keys easily.  It’s just so fun!

Super Geek Box Pika-Chews

This might be the best gum ever.  It is Electrifying Mint flavour and has freakin’ Pikachu on the wrapper.  I would always be Pikachu when gaming so this is fabulous.

Super Geek Box 10×24″ Ultimate Clash Poster

This poster illustrates the brawl between comic and anime.  For me personally there is no contest, I don’t care for anime.  This would be my least favourite thing in the box.  They so far have sent a poster in each box and I’d rather get something else.  I don’t have much use for these.

Super Geek Box Exclusive Hoard of the Rings T-Shirt

Now this I love!  It’s what has happened to Sonic years after his adventures.  Still collecting rings but now they just happen to be tasty ones.  As soon as I get this washed I am so wearing it!!!!

Epic ComiCast Heat-transfer Badge

This was a bonus item this month.  It is the logo of a Podcast that talks about Fandoms.  I don’t listen to podcasts so I’ve never heard of it but it sounds like it’s two siblings who love to talk about them.

Super Geek Box Pin

As usual there is a pin to commemorate the month and theme.

So this month was awesome!  It had items from things I like and that makes me happy.  That’s the big gamble with the geek boxes, if you get a theme for something you are not a fan of, the whole box can be a letdown.  Next month’s theme is Destiny, and they are promising an “epic exclusive t-shirt” in it plus awesome wearable gear.

Miss Tutii Tutii Bag March 2016

Miss Tutii is an Asian beauty subscription that offers a few different options.  You can choose from the TutiiBox, TutiiBag, or the TutiiMask.  Plans start at $12.00 and there is a shipping charge to Canada.  They ship out popular or trending items from Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.  Your package may include skincare, makeup, hair care , beauty tools, or body and you can expect 4-5 deluxe or full sized items.   The TutiiBag is just a smaller version of the TutiiBox so if you subscribed to both you will get duplicates.

This showed up in a bright pink mailer bag.  Inside was this little pouch.

20160323_182254 20160323_182311

There were two cards in the bag.  The one with the bunny is the info card.  It tells you everything in your bag plus pricing.  It also, thankfully, has the directions for each item since most do not have much English on the packaging.  The other card is instructions on how to use the swap feature and some basic information about earning points on their site.  Up to three times a year you can request to swap out an item you received for something else on their site.  I think that’s a great idea and really super customer service if you absolutely hate something you can try something else.

Etude House Real Art No-Wash Cleansing Water-25mL $1.25

This cleansing water is moisturising and gets rid of dead skin as well.  You just put some on a cotton ball and wipe off all your makeup.  It recommends that you hold it on your eyes for a few seconds before wiping to loosen the makeup first but there is no need to rinse after.

Rire VVVic Lip Scrub-10mL $2.18

This is a lip exfoliator that gets rid of the dry, flaky skin and leaves your lips soft and supple.  It doesn’t look like a scrub, it seems like a lotion until you start to rub it on and then you can feel the mild scrubbers in it.  It tastes horrible if you get a little in your mouth, which is almost impossible not to do.  My lips do feel softer though, even just doing a quick scrub so I’ll need to learn how to keep my lips tighter I guess.

It’s Skin Mini Bebe Creamy Foam Cleanser-34g $4.99

This cleanser has aloe vera and green tea extract to gently clean without irritating skin.  There were various scents sent out and I got banana.  It foams up really well and I used only a tiny bit.  I originally thought my skin felt a touch tight after using it but a minute later it feels soft and smooth.

20160323_182352 20160323_182401

Natur SC Egg Sleeping Pack-8g $3.00

This is the oddest thing I have ever received.  This is a night mask.  You take the little spatula and mix up the “egg”, than apply it to your face.  In something that’s fairly common in Asian beauty products this is also a whitening product but I’ve never had any irritation from using them.  I think you would have to be much more religious about using them to make a difference.

Tony Moly Delight Tony Lip Tint-9mL $6.00

This is a lip stain.  It goes on easily and smells great but then once it dries it is on there!  It tells you that if you keep adding layers it will get to whatever darkness you want.  It also moisturises as you use it.  I have been wanting to try the Tony Moly products at Sephora so this makes me very happy.

This was my first bag from them and I liked it.  There is nothing in this one that I would want to swap so I’ll have to try that feature out later.  This month had a value of $17.42, which is not too much higher than I paid but still good.  I like getting the Asian beauty products and it’s been a while since I got many so this subscription should be a fun one.

LuxePineapple Box Of Joy March 2016

LuxePineapple is a website that offers makeup and skincare items.  They also have what they call the Box Of Joy, which is not a subscription but rather a collection they put together every month.  They switch up the themes and while they do list all the items included it is still a fun box.  They do call them a Glossary Box as well, not to be confused with GlossyBox though.  Boxes range from $17-$20 and shipping to Canada is $6.00.

This version of the box is the Surprise Box Of Joy.  It came as pretty as the first one and I really do love that they personalise them!   There was no info card or anything but that’s not really odd since this is a surprise box.

Hmmmm…..interesting first peek.  It gives me nothing!

Ellison’s Organics 3-Free Nail Lacquer in Peach De-Luxe-$16.11

This is a handmade polish from you can buy from an Etsy shop.  This colour is super cute and I think it’s a bit more pink than peach but it has great micro-shimmer and I like it.  It’s also nice that it is 3-free.  Anytime there is less crap in a nail polish it’s good, especially if I put it on the girls and they keep sticking fingers in their mouths.

Timeless Truth Bio Cellulose Hydra-Soothing Moisturising Mask-$1.20

This is something I received in my other box from them but I can’t be mad because that is kinda the point of mystery boxes, they fill them with things leftover from previous ones.  This package is very full of serum.  It is a sheet mask, which have become one of my favourite things since getting boxes.  This one promises to improve fine lines and wrinkles by hydrating the collagen fibres in your skin to make you glow.  It was interesting to find anything out about it as the webpage was all in Chinese but thankfully Google Translate came through for me.

Pineapple Lovely Nail File-$0.99

I can’t find a price for this exact one but that’s a fair price for them online so I’ll go with it.  You can never go wrong having files stashed everywhere.

Justneem Cuticle Care-$9.50

This brush on oil helps prevent fungus, heals dry skin, and helps hang nails.  You twist the bottom of the pen and then just brush on the resulting oil.  I have lots of hang nails because I work with paper all day and my hands get so dry.

Mood Enhance Bath Bomb-$10.07

This came all wrapped in it’s own nest so I left it there to snap the picture.  It smells fantastic and soften the water as well as your skin.  It says it will leave you scented to uplift your spirits all day.

Timeless Truth Hyaluronic Acid Circulating Moisture Serum-$12.06

Again I have Google translate to thank for being able to get anything on this.  This serum uses the acid, ceramide, algae, glacier, and baobab extracts.  It promises to keep your skin plump and full all day.  It has no smell and doesn’t feel sticky or greasy or anything.  It’s made by the same people who did the mask above.

I enjoyed this box as well.  The value was $49.93, which is double the cost. They have sent out an email saying in April there will be a LuxePineapple Post which will be a monthly subscription for $24.00.  I will keep checking the site and even if they don’t do one will buy these boxes as they become available.  You can see things for yourself by clicking here.

Uniquely You March 2016

Uniquely You is a subscription box with a difference from the normal ones.  They tailor each box to you personally so each one is different from the next.  When you sign up they have 20 categories you can choose from to base your box on.  They also send you a little quiz after to get to know you better filled with some serious and some frivolous questions.  I chose the Mystery Box category and after filling in my quiz they responded and asked if there were any of the categories I did not have any interest in. I told them that Festivals & Party Supplies, Men’s Fashion Accessories, Cats, and Smoking Accessories were not to my interest and they said nothing from those would be sent.  Boxes are $29.99 a month but go down a lot if you choose a longer term.  All pricing is in Canadian dollars and the box is based out of British Columbia.

Opening the box showed that it was packed with care.  There is also a sticker on top the shows it’s mine.

There was a personalized letter that said thank you and gave details of what I would find in the box.  It also had instructions and usage hints for a few of the items.

Inside all that paper was my treasures.  I couldn’t see anything specifically from this look but it was exciting!

DMC Magnetic Needle Case-$7.25

I’m thinking this would fall into the Arts & Crafts theme.  This is so cool actually.  I just have my needles in a pin cushion and the girls occasionally get hold of it and give me seven heart attacks as I rush to save them from playing with sharp pointy objects.  It has a magnet inside so all your pins stay safe and don’t go flying through the air when you open it.

Hand Painted Mason Jar-???

This must go in Home Accents.  I don’t know how to value this one.  The jar is worth $2.12 but someone took the time to paint the inside and that adds to it.  They suggest filling this with flower or makeup brushes but it could hold anything you want.  They do mention not to place water directly in it.I would never pick this up myself, even though oddly it’s not the first one of these I own.  It’s cute in that rustic way and I will find something to fill it with.

Pure Dead Sea Body Butter in Pomegranate-$25.90

This one must fit the Spa theme.  This is a very heavy jar of lotion and I was really surprised at how light this lotion was.  It smells great and it’s not overpowering.  It soaked in well and while it did leave a slightly greasy feeling, that is pretty normal for a body butter.  It says it’s full of antioxidants and will help protect and moisturise your skin.  This will last a long time but will be so nice to use after a bath.

20160316_170615 20160316_170630

Handmade Mini Vase, Soil, Glass Stones, and GMO Free Radish Seeds-???

This one has an obvious theme home, GMO Free Gardening.  This is another one that can’t be valued but I love it.  You place the stones in the base of the vase, add the soil and seeds and sprout your radishes!  There is no way I’d ever have expected to get something to grow in a box.  So cool.

I am so happy I found this box.  My first one is like nothing else I’ve ever received and while nothing in it is specific to answers I gave it is still a mix of things that I will enjoy.  For the stuff I can value, this box is worth $35.27, which is higher than what I paid and does not include the intrinsic value of the objects.  I can’t wait to see what other boxes will bring because I know literally have zero idea of what to expect.

Topbox March 2016

Topbox is a Canadian beauty subscription that ships you 4 samples every month.  The shipping is free, which is nice, but there is tax based upon your province.  This still makes it one of the cheapest boxes out there at $12 per month.  Topbox normally comes is a cardboard container but you can chose to receive your products in a reusable organza bag for even less waste, which is my choice.  They also offer special boxes that you can put on your wish list and you may get them or you’ll get the regular box.  I had stopped getting this one for a while because I felt they were sending out too many of the same type of samples.  I am giving them a try again because I now get almost no makeup boxes anymore and since this one is Canadian and inexpensive we’ll see how it goes this time.

In honour of Earth Day all subscribers got their orders in the organza bag instead of having the choice to get the bag or the tube.

Jelly Pong Pong Lychee Gel Softening Shower & Bath Gel-$15.95 Full Size

So once again this is a duplicate from Luxe Box.  It smells really nice though and lathers great.  I still feel that this is the tiniest full size ever but this brand has been good to me and I’m happy to get it.

MaskerAide All Eyes On Me Hydrating Eye Gel Patches-$6.25

These eye patches are supposed to brighten, hydrate, and firm the undereye area.  I’m glad to see that this set of eye patches are not expired, like a set they had sent out previously.  You can stick these in the freezer to get extra cooling  effect.

Nova Scotia Fisherman Extreme Skin Care Nova Scotia Fisherman Fisher-Mint-$4.95

This is another company I’m glad to have discovered through boxes.  This lip balm is super minty and tingly on your lips.  The ingredients are natural and they also included a code to get a free balm in one of the other flavours available if you place an order with them.

Teeez Trend Cosmetics La Isla Chique Brushes-$5.67

It seems like there might have been an assortment of brushes sent out and I received the Angled Brush.  It is very soft and can be used for eyes or brows.  I have got one other of their brushes and they don’t shed or anything like that.

This month’s box has a value of $32.82.  Only one double this time so yay!!! I like the items I got this time and am happy with all of them. The good thing is that since they only do month to month subscriptions I can cancel this without any hassle if it gets really repetitive.  As I mentioned above I like that it’s a Canadian box and that it’s really reasonably priced but it is not always varied.   If you are interested in getting your own Topbox send me a message and I can give you a link or you can visit them here.

Paper & Pen March 2016

Paper & Pen is a monthly subscription box that promises to send out 3-4 paper goods and supplies each month.  They pick items from around the globe and send those unique items to you.  Boxes start at $20 a month but go down with longer plans.  Shockingly for me, shipping is free!  Let’s see what they sent out!

These parcels were shipped in a plain yellow bubble mailer.  The nice presentation was a good start.

20160315_145533 20160315_145541

That envelope was a card thanking me for joining.  I love getting these hand written cards.  It shows that they are not just out to make money but are honestly care about each subscription they get.  I feel special and happy for subscribing now.

Marvy Uchida Le Pen in Black-$3.47

Ooohhhh I like this pen!  It is a super fine point and flows like a gel pen.  I am always looking for more pens, not that I need more, and this one will be a joy to use.

Harvest Paper Co. “You Got This” Imprinted Pencils-$5.75

Okay so there are some very awesome pencils being made by this company.  They even sell them individually if you wanted to pick them up.  These pencils are a #2 graphite with California Cedar wood.  You can’t go wrong sometimes with a plain old pencil.

20160315_145640 20160315_145648

Vintage Stamp Stickers-$2.95

These are assorted stickers that have nice sayings on them.  The have scalloped edges like a real stamp and I’m happy to have received them.  They are so sweet and I feel better just looking at them.

Sea + Lake Paper Co. “Adult Status” Notepad-$10.99

This is a great notepad!  It makes you feel better about yourself and your to-do list because you get to be awesome if you can cross off only three things.  There are 75 sheets, which is so huge for most pads.

I’m really impressed with this box.  There is not a ton of stuff in it but that was made clear in their info.  The value for this month was $23.16.  That is higher than the one month price and definitely higher than what I paid.  I like that some of the products are from smaller companies and Etsy companies.  It shows that they really do search out interesting items instead of just buying lots off Amazon.

Rag Tag Box March 2016

Rag Tag Box is a monthly craft and ephemera box.  They include all sorts of things and a cross stitch project each month based on a theme that could be fun, scary, sci-fi, or movie related.  They offer a few different options including paper crafts, stitchy mini, or full size and prices start at  $15.00.  They also have a shop online where you can buy projects or downloadable projects.  I went for the full sized box.  The theme for March is Totally 80’s.  Earlier this month I received an email from them saying that they will be discontinuing the full size box but you can still get the Stitchy Box or a digital download of a pattern each month.  That makes me a bit sad because I have found this box to be fun but at least the site is not closing totally.

The first look gave nothing away but a code for 15% off any purchase from the site.  I’m not sure if this applies to subscriptions but it might!

Peeling back the paper revealed my goodies plus an assortment of confetti and glitter.

First up was a Mead Memo pad.  I love notepads and this is an awesome one that totally reminds me of growing up. My Dad always had one in his pocket and the glove box of every vehicle we owned had one too!

Next we have two beaded bracelets that appear to be handmade.  They are just strung on a wire and you have to unbend one end of it to open and close then.  The girls were super interested in these but because of that wire being a bit pokey I don’t think I’ll give them to them.  They are bright and loud though so very much fit the theme.

They usually do include a bookmark in this box but this is the first time they have had them where I need to colour them myself.  This is a pack of four and all are 80’s images.

Some rad pencils were in there and an eraser!  You can never really have enough of these things and I haven’t had an eraser like this in forever.

Two mini clothespin clips were hiding amongst the paper.  These will go straight onto my bog calendar to hold reminders and papers.

Two sheets of stickers were included.  The dialog box ones are cool and I think they will make good address labels for envelopes.  The dots are about 1-1/2″ and will join my sticker pile.

The assorted other goodies included a paper doily, a price tag, and two vinyl coated large paperclips.

There are two blank notecards with more of the designs familiar to the 80’s.

Finally the cross-stitch kit.  This is a larger one than any of the previous ones have been.  It has a cassette and Pac-Man with the Totally 80’s words in the center.  It should be fun and I like that they are simple to get finished without looking like a child’s kit.

There is no way I could value this box but I do love it!  I had been looking for something crafty for myself since Embellished Boxes seem to have imploded and this is it.  If you are thinking this may be something you’d like next month’s theme is Badass Unicorns! I cannot wait!! You can visit their site by clicking here.
