Doodlebugs Busy Bags October 2015

One  subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags.  The website describes them as….”DoodleBug Busy Bags is a monthly craft subscription for kids ages 3 – 10. DoodleBug Busy Bags keep little hands busy and little minds active. Each month your child will receive a bag of 4 – 8 curated crafts, often centered on a holiday or seasonal theme, and all the supplies your child needs to complete each activity. Once completed, the crafts may be used as learning tools, decorations, toys, or given away as gifts. DoodleBug Busy Bags are fun, easy to complete, and help develop motor skills, creativity, hand-eye coordination, and confidence.”  Bags are $23.99 including shipping and go down with longer subscriptions.  This months theme is Halloween Fun.

Everything comes packed in a giant zipper bag.  All of the crafts are individually wrapped inside and any other additional things are floating around in there too.

The included paper tells you what crafts you got and if there are any additional instructions that maybe are not clear.  It will also tell you if there are any of the spare parts you need to use on a specific craft.

Polka Dot Bat Ornament

This is quite cute and there are lots of stickers to apply which always goes down well.

Craft Stick Monster Ornament

We got the Frankenstein one and you need to align them on a sheet and adhere them to make the face.  This one is slightly more complex but will still be a good one.

Ghost Door Hanger

This will spell out BOO when completed.  I think the biggest issue with this one is not letting little fingers get hold of it and rip all the stickers off.  I really want to do this one myself so we can use it as a decoration.

Reflective Spider Wristband

I’m glad for the title on this one because I could not figure out what is was supposed to be.  The finished picture included looks awesome and we might have to do this one up quickly so we can use it on Halloween night.

Ghost Kid Magnet

There doesn’t seem to be enough pieces in the bag but I guess ghosts are white so maybe they are all there.  The magnets end up on the fridge for a bit and everyone loves them.

Spider Magnet

Another cute one.  I kind of like him as he sits in the bag.  There were four shape options and we got triangle.  These are so quick to whip up that they work as distractions.

As noted before all of these crafts are from Oriental Trading but since I don’t have to purchase them in large quantities off the site and everything we need to create is included in the bag, I like this. If you need glue or anything else that does not come in the prepackaged craft they make sure it’s in your bag so you really do not have to run to the store. It’s also nice that each of these crafts are fairly quick and we can do them in the short time between bath and bedtime when we need to be winding down.  The next months theme is going to be Thanksgiving.

The Beaver Box Fall 2015

This is my second Beaver Box.  They are a quarterly Canadian women’s box that will include something fashion, food, beauty, and home, plus always a little extra!  They source as much as they can from their local area but do have items from all across Canada.  This is the box I was expecting to get as my first one. Boxes are $55.00 per quarter or you can get a yearly subscription for $200.00.  Let’s see what we got that is just for the Canadian woman.

Under the lid it was all neatly wrapped up and the info card was taped in place.  It just says how much they like fall, and that these fall inspired items should bring warmth and coziness.  It also lets me know the Winter box is scheduled for January.

The reverse of the card tells you what you got and a little bit about each item. It also has the websites these things can be found on.

The box was really heavy and once I opened it up I could see why.  It smelled amazing too!

The actual item is the coffee cozy from Sun Creations Emporium, $4.00.  The branded ceramic travel cup is a bonus I guess. I have been thinking I needed to make myself a coffee cozy since my hands get too hot with a take out cup os this makes my life easier.

This body butter is made by Wilderness Soap Co. and smells so nice!  It is 100% vegan and made with natural ingredients.  This sells for $15.00 on their etsy site.  It’s a big jar and I really love that they select Canadian companies to source stuff from.  This is out of Ontario.

20151021_181210 20151021_181235

These are what scented the whole box up.  They are a pumpkin spice tea light and as an added benefit they return a portion of their profits to Ontario Beekeepers.  This 4 pack sells for $3.50 and while I have a strong dislike for pumpkin anything if I’m eating it, the smell is so seasonal!

This is an antiqued brass chain with a raw brass triangle pendant.  I’m unsure how I feel about it.  I think it’s maybe just not really something I would ever pick up so maybe I need to give it a try for a few days and see if it rows on me.  The artist sells this necklace on her site for $9.53.

These are maple buttercream chocolates made by Chelsea Chocolates.  They are hand molded in Craighurst Ontario and I am so sad because I started a diet about a week ago and these are so not on it.  I know that if I give in to trying these I’ll be led down a path that I’m trying to get off of.  Maybe I’ll just smell them before I give them to my husband.

Box two was as good as the first.  They once again covered all the categories promised.  I like that the companies are Canadian and that all of these items are available to me, which isn’t always the case.  The box had a value of $32.00 plus the chocolates, whose website was down.  That is lower then what I paid but I’m hoping that will change next month.    Canadian boxes are not to common so I’m liking this one for the variety provided.  If you want to check them out click here.

Bowzer Box October 2015

Since our BarkBox subscription ran out I decided to get just a six month plan of another one for the pups. There are lots to choose from but I went with a Canadian one that wasn’t hugely expensive. Bowzer Box sends out a selection of treats and toys carefully selected to make you and your dog happy. You start off by selecting your dog size from small, medium, or large. You then pick a term from 1,3, or 6 months. All plans automatically renew but there is a slight discount for the longer terms. Boxes start at $29.00 a month and there is a $4.50 shipping charge also. They donate 10% of the fee to dogs in need, so you get to feel good about helping without having to do anything.

You couldn’t see much of anything with the first peek this time.  This bag of treats covered everything.

20151020_160537 20151020_160546

Way down at the bottom under everything was the info card.  As kind of expected the them is Halloween.  The reverse side lets you know what is in the box, where you can find them, and where they are made.

20151020_160329  20151020_160415

NatuRAWlS Dehydrated Dog Treats

We got two of these, chicken foot and I think lamb lung.  They are not marked so I’m going off visual clues.  These are made in Canada and I’m sure Archie will be thrilled to get them.  There is no pricing on the site so I’m not sure of retail but they sell them in bags of lots not individual packets like this.

Darford Grain Free Premium Oven-Baked Dog Treats-340g $8.99

This is a huge bag of treats!  They are also small enough that I could give them to Freckles as well.  This is the turkey variety but they have many others.  They are totally free of corn and soy along with being grain free.  They are filled with lots of fruits and vegetables too.

R2P Chewbots-$10.00

This is one of those tough toys.  We don’t ever believe those claims in this house.  Archie can destroy a toy in no time.  He once ate a tin can.  Seriously.  This has a squeaker in the square part and the rest is just stuffing.  He seems to like it.  It has lasted one day so far.  Maybe this one is actually hard to chew up.

Amelia Biscuits

These are a handmade dog treat, made of grains, fruit, and vegetables.  They help to clean your dog’s teeth as they chomp em down.  These ones are listed as a Christmas biscuit but obviously they are Halloween ones since they are pumpkin shaped.

Zukes Clean Apple Crisp-Z-Bone

This is a breath freshening dental chew.  It is grain free and has added vitamins and minerals.  It does come with a warning that it may stain light coloured flooring so you need to make sure of where your pup is eating this.

Not listed on the card but included was a roll of poop bags.  These are good in an emergency but I have a big dog, with big craps and these are really thin and made for smaller dogs I think.

Box two was better then one.   There still was only one toy and a few of the treats don’t seem to be really sized for the 50+ pound dog size I selected.  I don’t have a value this month since a few of the items are made by small local companies.   I do like that all the companies are Canadian and using local ingredients when possible.  If you want to check them out visit their site by clicking here.

Bespoke Post October 2015

Bespoke Post is a monthly box geared towards men. Their box is called the Box Of Awesome and it gives you a themed bunch of items each month.  Boxes can cover food, drink, style, or grooming and they normally have a fairly high value.  Each month they let you know what the new one will be and you can choose to get it or pass for the month.  Boxes are $45 a month in the subscription or you can buy one offs of ones you like for $55.  Shipping to Canada is $10 a month.  I have always wanted to get these boxes for Hubby but they are above what I feel comfortable paying.  Luckily Groupon was running a deal on these and I was able to grab a three month subscription for $79.  You can find quite a few subscription box deals on Groupon if you keep your eyes open for them.

20151019_164346 20151019_164358

This months theme is Brisk.  The little booklet shows you what you got and inside has tips on how to use what you received.

The big item this month is a Gilded Age Merino Wool Scarf.  This is a really nice scarf.  I may have to steal it.  You were able to choose from three different scarf colours and this is the one that Hubs picked.  It would have been my choice too.  This scarf is quite big, about 6′ by 1.5′.  It is so soft too!  The hints in the card give you four different ways to wear it if you want to not go for the traditional wrap it around as many times as you can.  This scarf retails for $55.00.

To help keep your awesome new scarf in good care they also sent a bag of Woodlore Cedar Balls.  These keep bugs away and absorb any odors so you want to keep wearing your scarf.  These look to be about $3.00 based on similar items on their site.

The last item in the box this time was The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Spray.  This is a refresher spray that pulls out any funky odors and leaves a slight citrus scent.  It is also anti-bacterial and can be used on any items made of wool.  This is $10.00.

This month was great.  I wish I could afford to keep this subscription after our Groupon is over since the products have been really nice.  This month has a value of $68.00.  We have one month left to go and still waiting for the box choices but I have ever faith that they will be great.

Kawaii Box September 2015

Kawaii Box is a monthly box of items selected from Japanese and Korean kawaii products.  Kawaii means cute so everything is based on that premise.  They ship anywhere in the world with free shipping and the box is $18.90 a month.  This has quickly become one of my favorite boxes that I receive.  It is full of things that no one really needs, but I’m always so thrilled to get.  I cannot see me getting rid of this box anytime in the near future.  I love this box and I haven’t been able to find stationary boxes that come close.

20151016_131222 20151016_131238

I liked it better when there was a little handwritten note but I have to say I’m glad to not have to guess at what each thing is.

Kabaya Fish Gummies

Going off the picture it looks like there are three different types of gummies in here letting you eat all the stages of fish growth.  I have yet to get bad candy from these boxes and the only thing I can say is that they are usually pure sugar.

Kawaii Foods Sticker Set

I know it’s hard to tell from the picture but these are super puffy stickers. I get the best stickers out of this box!  I use them on my penpal letters and hope they are getting as much joy from them as me.

Moomin Mini Pouch

I haven’t got a sniff what Moomin is, maybe a cartoon or comic strip?  This is a little change purse keychain thingy.  It’s not very big but I think it’s cute and I’ll use it for something.

Fragrance Beads

This little jar is filled with little gelly beads that smell.  I can’t think of what it is they smell like but it’s fruity and pleasant.  I am not sure what to do with them though.  I don’t know if you just leave it open in a drawer or open and sniff when you want a lift?  Hmmmm.

Cute Animal Greeting Card

Obviously a birthday card, blank on the inside.  This will be put to use probably for one of the birthday parties that Bug will have this year.

Neck Stretching Bunny Pen

This is a black gel pen and it writes well.  It says “let’s wry neck” on it, which doesn’t make sense but some things get lost in translation.  The rabbit is fun and as long as it writes I’m happy.  Hubs would say the last thing I need is another pen but he just doesn’t understand.

Kawaii Toast Squishy Charm

This is one of the cuter ones lately!  Pink toast just wins.

DIY Bracelet Kit

This will be a fun project for Bug and I this winter.  I am always after crafts for her to do and now that she’s a bit older I don’t have to help with stringing things as much.  There are seven different shapes of beads and the elastic thread to string them on.

Alpaca Pouch

This is actually a really big bag.  It could a makeup bag or a large pencil case.  The message must be a common one since it’s appeared on a few other products.  20151016_131319

Cute Egg Mini Plush

I’d have never come up with this being an egg.  Ever.  Beyond that it’s cute and yellow and joyful.  What else do you need?

Caplico Mini Ice Cream Candy

Two candies in one box???  Best day ever!  My sweet tooth might be on high today.  It has a strawberry on it so I’m going to take that as the flavour.  I can’t tell if there are two in there or if mine is just broken but I think I’ll eat this shortly.

As usual I like this box, just incase you couldn’t tell. The stuff is fun and cute and brings me happiness.  If you have any interest in Kawaii then you should get this box!

Birchbox October 2015

With Birchbox you get monthly boxes of five personalized beauty samples, tailored to your profile. They promise to help you try cult brands, up-and-coming lines, and everything in between.  They also say you will never receive the same product twice.  Birchbox runs at $10.00 per month plus $4.95 shipping but you can get yearly plans for $100.00 plus shipping as well.  This makes it one of the more affordable boxes out there. Each box is different and reflects the theme of the month.

20151015_181702 20151015_181749

This months box is partnered with the Look Good, Feel Better Foundation.  It doesn’t say how beyond the box being pink but I’m hoping there is either a donation or maybe a gift of makeup given to the foundation so they can continue their work.

20151015_181718 (1) 20151015_181727

The info card states the theme for the month and the back has all your products.  There is also a Beauty PSA letting us know that there will soon be more good stuff coming including being able to pick a sample as they allow in the US.  I hope I get to see some of the changes before my subscription runs out!

12 Benefits Instant Healthy Hair Treatment-45mL $5.25

This product detangles, protects, and heals your hair all at once.  It says to use it before you blow-dry or go swimming but I’m sure any time before styling will give you the benefits.  I seem to forget to use these sprays and am getting a bit of a stockpile.  Must use my brain more in the mornings.

Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris Perfume-2mL $3.84

This scent is described as an elegant mix of bright fruits and florals.  I think that sounds about right, though I get more floral then fruit personally.  It’s must more adult of a scent then I usually wear but I like it.  It’s something that would get you noticed without clearing the room.  I’m glad it’s a bit bigger of a sample so I can wear it for a week or more and see what people think.

derma e Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask-14g $7.06

This mask is made from natural clays, marine algae, and activated charcoal, which I thought was only in cat litter, but what do I know.  You put it on, let it dry, then dampen and massage in to exfoliate.  After that rinse it off and you will be glowing.  20151015_181819

Eyeko Black Magic Mascara-4mL $14.34

This is a water-resistant black mascara that curls, adds volume and is not supposed to flake or rub off.  I have received this sample before and I can’t remember using it so it might still be in my pile.  I am fascinated by the tube and even the full size is this way, just bigger.  Mascara is one of my two must wear everyday items so I never feel bad about getting more.

Harvey Prince Hello Shampoo-15mL $4.33

I have received a lot of Harvey Prince products from Birchbox plus some from others as well.  This is the first shampoo but I have got this scent before.  I’m always a bit cranky to only get either shampoo or conditioner.  Maybe I’ll just use this to shave my legs with and then it won’t matter.

This months value for the box was $34.82.  There were no full sized items but that’s not unusual for this box.  This month was just okay for me.  I have received most of these brands before and the mascara is an exact match.  You get points for reviewing your box items, that you can then use in their store.  If you find a product you love, any item in your box has free shipping for the month also. The American boxes do have a few more perks like selecting one of your samples, which seems like it’s on it’s way here,  and a men’s box but I am hopeful once they get settled in Canada the same types of options will be available.

If you want to sign up send me a message and I can get you a link.  You can also go to their Canadian site by clicking here.

Look Fantastic Beauty Box October 2015

Look Fantastic Beauty Box is a newer box from the UK and you will receive a minimum of six products.   Those products will be an assortment of skin, hair, cosmetic and body products.  There also are sometimes high value surprises added to a few boxes randomly.  They promise to have a much higher value than what you pay each month as well.  They have free worldwide delivery on the boxes or things you order from the website. Boxes are $28 a month but go down with 3,6 or 12 month subscriptions.  Shipping was pretty quick for overseas and I received tracking notices as well.  The stuff I’ve been getting in this box has been really nice.  This one was a find.20151014_203406 20151014_203426

This month the box is not standard.  This is Beauty Box no.1, Limited Edition 1/3.  I’m not sure what if anything all that means but the box is pretty.

20151014_203549 20151014_203604

The info card doesn’t tell me anything about why the box is special but does list what I received and a tip for using each item.

At least the squiggles are not black this month.  Grey dust on things is easier to wipe off.

Elemis Hydra-Balance Day Cream-20mL $33.94

This moisturizer is for combination skin and helps to balance and moisturize.  It is quite scented but the mix of petitgrain, neroli, and mandarin is not overpowering.  I mostly smell the mandarin.  I really like the way it absorbed in quickly and know I would be able to put my makeup on without having to wait.

Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating  Cleanser-30mL $10.30

This cleanser has little scrubbers in it doing the exfoliating.  The acids do the rest of the work for you.  I’ve received a couple of Murad products before and have found them to be nice on my skin and to work well.  I’m happy to get another.

Percy & Reed Smoothed, Sealed, & Sensational Volumising No Oil Oil-30mL $14.14

This serum has vitamin B5 and wheat proteins to strengthen and protect.  It really is not oily and both my hands and my hair don’t feel greasy or sticky after rubbing some on.  My hair has been a little worse for wear lately with the bleaching and colouring so I’m all over hair products lately.

Nuxe Reve De Miel Hand and Nail Cream-15mL $4.44

Ohhhh this smells nice!!!  I want more of this!!!!  I don’t know what else to say but I like it.  It is non-greasy  and has vitamin E too so it makes your nails healthier.

Look Good Feel Better Eye Shading Brush-$14.11

12% off all sales from the makeup brush collection of Look Good Feel Better go directly to the charity.  That’s awesome and the brush is nice too.  This brush is soft and has a long handle which is a good bonus.  I don’t switch out my brushes as often as I should but it’s good to have backups.

Monu Firming Moisturizer-25mL $22.73

This is supposed to leave your skin toned, tightened and treated. It has marine collagen and aloe vera and is scented with neroli and lavender.  Oddly it kinda smells like weeds after you pull them to me.  My nose is weird a lot of the time. I can’t tell after one use if I fell tightened but I’m sure it’s doing wonderful things to my skin without me noticing.

Balance Me Radiance Face Mask-30mL $14.54

I guess this is a bonus item since it’s not in my info booklet at all.  I am SOO happy to get it though because I have been looking at the Balance Me line for about a month now and just haven’t committed to buy it.   This is a bit of a different mask because it also has walnut shells for exfoliation.  You still rub it on and then leave it for a bit before washing off.  They use no parabens, sulphates, petroleum, mineral oils, silicones, or a whole longer list of stuff.

This month had a value of $114.20, which is awesome!  This month was a good mix of hair and face products. This has been the highest value box I’ve received from them yet and there are a lot of high value samples in it. The great part about them is that they have sales all the time and free worldwide shipping so if you want more of anything or find other things on their site it’s simple to get.  I can’t wait to see what fun they send next month and have yet to be disappointed with what I find in here.

FabFitFun Fall 2015

FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription box that brings together fashion finds, beauty secrets, and fitness gear put together by the FabFitFun team.  It is $49.99 a quarter but there are always deals to be had so the price of the box can be lower or you can get extra free products depending on when you sign up. They guarantee a value of at least $100 in every box, but I’ve yet to see anything that low.   There are always a few spoilers out on this box each time so if you want a complete surprise this might not be the best option unless you have supreme willpower to avoid peeking at them. I was really surprised to get this box.  I had cancelled my subscription because while the value was always super high, I found that I didn’t use some of the stuff or just wasn’t thrilled about it.  After I cancelled I found that they had resubscribed me anyways and so I contacted them and they reversed the charges right away.  That is why I didn’t expect this to show up at all.

The box is very purple this time.  I’d have thought raindrops were more of a Spring thing but I guess it works for fall too.

This season instead of the foldout info card there is a little booklet.  It still has all of the items listed but it also has info about the artist who designed the box, tips on using the products, expanded information about the different companies associated with the items, and quotes to motivate you.

Once I got inside the box was full!  I could see some big items.  Since I didn’t think I was getting this box I never paid attention to spoilers or emails asking me to select personal choices of some items.  I was going in blind for once.

Passport To Beauty Gold Radiance Luxury Facial Mask with Collagen and Rose Oil-2pk $65.00

These are so much heavier then the paper ones I normally get in boxes.  These have Colloidal Gold and Collagen in them to get your skin glowing.  There is also rose essential oil.  They work the same as the paper ones, smooth it onto your face, hang out for 20 minutes, then pat any remaining product into your skin.  I have found that if I put one on as the kids get into the tub, I can get through the whole time without moving around a bunch and while it may not be super relaxing with the yelling and the splashing I can hear, Hubs does a great job of wrangling them for that time.

FabFitFun x Tappan Collective Umbrella-$32.00

I think this is great.  I do have an umbrella but it’s just plain black and boring. This one  has the same pattern that is on the cover all over it and from a distance looks like chevrons.  It’s only once someone gets close to you that they will see the words.  Too bad we’re moving into snow season and not rain season here.

Manna Kadar Cosmetics Lucky Lip Stain-$24.00

This lip gloss is actually a 3-in-1.  You are getting a primer, stain, and gloss and it moisturizes.  It’s not my favorite colour.  It is a bit of a peach/tan that looks light on my lips.  It is not sticky though and feels good on.  Maybe I’ll grow into it.

Crest 3D White Brilliance 2-Step System

This is the sponsored item this time.  I think it’s fine for them to do this as it gets more products in the box.  There are tiny samples of the two steps inside.  This version of whitening is toothpaste style so you brush with 1 then with 2, rinse and smile.  They also included a $2.00 off coupon so you can get more and make people blind with your sparkling white teeth.

Doctor D. Schwab Flawless Skin Fluid-$39.00

This is a facial moisturizer.  It is made with natural ingredients and is supposed to help balance and brighten your skin while making it youthful looking.  I’ve just tried it and I like the way it feels on my face and it doesn’t make it greasy or shiny at all.  That’s kinda all I hope for and any other benefits are just a bonus.

Purple Purse Charm by Allstate Foundation Purple Purse

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and this purse charm is a way of showing your support for women and children to escape it.  I think it’s a great cause and will be putting this on mine right away.

HISY Battery Pack-$24.99

This is a portable charger for your phone or other electronic device.  It comes with all the cables you need and is handy to keep in your bag for those times when you can’t get home to recharge.  I’ve been wanting one and an so glad this showed up.

20151009_125008 20151009_125035 20151009_125130

Strength Tubing Ankle & Total Body Tone w/Tubing:Lower Body & Core DVD by Marrithew-$33.00

I have never used resistance tubing…..mostly because I rarely exercise……but this is still cool.  I’m glad that they sent a instructional video as well because I would be lost on my own.  This particular one is for toning your thighs, glutes, and calves.

Glass Crystal Bead Bracelet by Tribe Alive-$49.00

This is so pretty and delicate and I’m probably going to break it the first time I wear it.  Tribe Alive works with impoverished women, giving them jobs and incomes.  That makes this even better.

$15.00 Gift card for Jeweler’s Wife & $75.00 Gift Card for Picture It On Canvas

Both of these have free US shipping but I haven’t checked out what it would cost me to get anything shipped here.  I’m also thinking that the $15.00 won’t be much use based on the brands listed on the card they sell.  The other one seems like it might be fun.  You can make coasters, posters, prints, phone cases or other things too and maybe for the smaller things shipping won’t be outrageous.

The value of this season’s box is $357.  Now since I may not use the gift cards that value to me is high but for anyone who will use everything it’s great.  I am totally unsure if I will get another box from them since this one was a surprise but I am glad right now that I cancelled.  This was a less exciting box for me then last season and I might not have been all that happy.  If you search around a bit there are lots of $’s off promos to get this box on the interweb so you can snag it for a good deal if you see things you want in it.

Little Life Box October 2015

Little Life Box is a monthly shipment of items that help you to try out items so you can try out healthier or alternative versions of things you use or eat everyday.  You will get up to a dozen items each month and they promise to never ship you the same item twice, though you may get a different flavour of the same item.  They are a Canadian company as well so that’s nice too.  Subscriptions will run you  $19.95 a month or less with longer plans.  They offer a purely Vegan option as well.  I went with their original box since I don’t have a preference towards vegan items. I have found that these boxes are stuffed full!

20151009_124024 20151009_124039

So fall perfect!!!  They really do take that extra time to make sure the paper and post card are seasonal and beautiful.  Box is stuffed to the top again.

Tyrrell’s Veg Crisps

I like sweet potato chips but I’m not sure how much I’ll like the chilli part.  I’m going to have to hurry up and eat them though as they expire on the 14th.  Oddly they do not have these listed on the LLB site, which I think is a first for me.  These are imported from the UK and I hope they are good.

Elan Coconut Smiles

Maybe the site is not completely updated because these aren’t there either.  These are roasted coconut pieces and that’s it.  They are organic, gmo, and gluten free.  Oh and let me add delicious!  I never buy coconut like this, just the shredded stuff for baking but I should because I always eat it when I am at my brothers.

Buddy Fruits Coconut Milk & Tropical Fruit Blend-$1.75

This is a squeeze tube of blended fruit.  I always buy the yogurt kind for the girls and don’t much care for them myself.  I’m thinking I could substitute this in for one of theirs and it would be good.  This contains a whole serving of fruit and no weird things.

Made Good Strawberry Granola Minis-$1.25

So these look delicious too.  They are little balls of granola, feels like about 9 in there.  I like that instead of the bar you can pop one in your mouth and not have the sticky mess to deal with.  Probably won’t share these….just sayin’.

Herbamare Bouillon Cubes

I almost never use vegetable bouillon but it doesn’t hurt to have it on hand.  I had previously received a salt substitute sample from then and I love it so I’m sure once I need this it will be tasty.  There are 2 cubes in the pack and they are also Vegan.

Splendor Garden Ground Cinnamon

This sample of spice is organic and Canadian.  With Christmas baking coming up soon more cinnamon is just what I need.  It looks the same as what I have in my cupboard right now and I’m going to assume it may taste better just being Canadian.

Urban Spa Foot File-$3.00

This foot file is made to be used wet or dry and on all areas of the foot that have a callous you want removed.  I find that having to wear socks and shoes for the next 6 months make my heels not so nice.  Now if I could just find the time to have bath alone I might get to use this.

Jnantik Mayan Coffee Alternative-$3.33

I don’t have a clue what this is. I thought tea was your coffee alternative.  This makes you a cup of instant “coffee” and is made from brosimum alicastrum seed.  I don’t drink regular coffee so I will pass this on to Hubs and see if he likes it.  Seems odd to me.

Choice Organic Teas Decaffeinated Earl Grey Tea Bags

I don’t drink Earl Grey tea either.  I’m a herbal kinda girl.  However….Hubs loves Earl Grey and I’ll just toss these into his bunch and he’ll probably never even notice the difference.

Herstat Natural Cold Sore Treatment

There really is an odd bunch of stuff in the box this month.  This cold sore cream helps to heal up sores in less time than just letting them be.  It also is supposed to help relieve pain from them.  If I get one I guess I can try it out.

Gardener’s Dream Assorted Samples

This package contained five packets of various samples.  I got a Citrus Body Scrub, Hand and Body Cream, Facial Moisturizer, Face & Body Wash, and Ohm Facial Moisturizer.  They seem to have a whole line from the enclosed pamphlet and are all made in Canada.  They have no chemicals, toxic elements, or parabens.

October’s  box had 16 samples in it.  I don’t have a value this month since a whole lot of the items are not listed on their site like normal.  I like this box and have found a bunch of things I would never have bought that either work really well or taste good.  I tended to dismiss most products like this out of hand as not good or too tree huggerish so I’m pleasantly surprised with the items.

Kiwi Crate August 2015

Kiwi Crate is a monthly craft and discovery box for children 3-12. They have recently expanded their options to boxes for specific ages or you can chose the regular one which is for all ages.  Kiwi crate is $19.95 a month but goes down with longer subscriptions.  I have seen plenty of deals out right now for them so I think you can even get lower pricing or free boxes if you search around. This month’s theme is Day At The Lake.

This is your first view every time you open the box, obviously just with the newest theme.

On the back of that sheet is a couple of characters to colour and cutout. You also get a sticker to put on a flow chart showing what you’ve done.

Also in each box is Explore magazine.  This has other projects, comics, stories and explanations on the science that goes with each theme.

Project one this month is My Fish Lantern.  This one is high on the messiness scale, medium on grownup  involvement, and utilizes creating, exploring, and fine moving skills.  Included to make this you get a paper lantern, paper scales, glue, eyes, fins, and a light kit.  This one could be a whole day project for us.

The second project is My Paddle Boats.  This one is medium on both messiness and grownup involvement and uses fine moving, discovering, and exploring skills.  I’m so glad they sent enough to make two.  Anything there is one of means I have to endure yelling and children ripping things out of each others hands.  This is just easier.  You get the boat frames, paddles, markers, sails and rubber bands needed to decorate and make your boats go.

The good thing about these projects is that there is some learning with them, not just crafting. I’m not sure that Bug gets to much about the science but maybe she’s just absorbing things and will know them later. This was our last box from them and I decided not to renew just because Bug wants to do crafts and doesn’t give a hoot about any of the other stuff that makes this such a good learning box.  We’ll see if maybe in a few years we want to re-explore this one.
