With Birchbox you get monthly boxes of five personalized beauty samples, tailored to your profile. They promise to help you try cult brands, up-and-coming lines, and everything in between. They also say you will never receive the same product twice. Birchbox runs at $10.00 per month plus $4.95 shipping but you can get yearly plans for $100.00 plus shipping as well. This makes it one of the more affordable boxes out there. Each box is different and reflects the theme of the month.
This month the box is a pool and it’s very cute.
The theme is Soak It Up and the card reflects that idea. On the back are your items and a few tips for getting the most out of them.
Inside of the box are your five samples. Nothing too small this time so no little bubble inside.
Key West Aloe Save A Tan-30mL $2.00
This is a lotion made up of 80% aloe that you apply after you get your tan to keep you moisturized and help preserve your colour. I’m not sure in today’s tan-phobic world that this was the best thing to promote but I like a tan and anything that can keep me from being completely pasty white is a good thing.
LAQA & Co. Cheeky Lip in Humble Brag-$8.67
These come in a set of three but they only sent out one per box. This stick can be used for both lips and cheeks. I like it for my lips but it’s a little too thick to easily blend on my cheeks and a touch too pink for my taste in blush. Definitely a great lip item though.
Number 4 Blow Dry Lotion-30mL $7.20
I have no idea what blow dry lotion is. I never blow dry my hair so that’s probably why. This is a leave in lotion you put in to tame frizz and protect your hair from heat damage. I’m thinking it will be fine as a leave in conditioner type thing.
Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel-5mL $5.80
This is an acid free peel and I tried just a dab on the back of my hand and the second I started rubbing it in the dead skin just came up. This will exfoliate my face in no time. On my hand it left no redness but that skin is tougher than my face but I don’t think it’ll be too harsh at all. I don’t know that there is enough in this tube to do more than one application but that one should be fun.
St.Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower-50mL $7.40
When I first grabbed this I was thinking this might be the greatest thing ever! I can shower on a tan and be done with it. Turns out it’s a bit more time consuming than that. You shower as normal and then turn off the shower, rub this on in a circular motion, wait 3 minutes, and then rinse off. It makes a slowly buildable tan that gets darker as you keep using it. There are warnings that it might make your tub a death trap by making it slippery though.
This months value for this box was $31.07. I am kinda sad about this month. I was sure on first look that it was great and once I really got into it it’s just okay. You get points for reviewing your box items, that you can then use in their store. If you find a product you love, any item in your box has free shipping for the month also. The American boxes do have a few more perks like selecting one of your samples and a mens box but I am hopeful once they get settled in Canada the same types of options will be available.
