Kiwi Crate May 2015

Kiwi Crate is a monthly craft and discovery box for children 3-12. They have recently expanded their options to boxes for specific ages or you can chose the regular one which is for all ages.  Kiwi crate is $19.95 a month but goes down with longer subscriptions.  I have seen plenty of deals out right now for them so I think you can even get lower pricing or free boxes if you search around. This month’s theme is Interesting Insects.  I always get the months box in the first little while of the next month so that’s why my posts are a bit late on these ones.

20150711_180605

The theme this month is Science Of Color.  This is the first thing you see once you open the box and on the back is a sticker to mark your chart for which ones you’ve done and two figures to cut out and colour that are based on the theme.

20150711_180618

As always there is Explore! magazine in the box.  It has a comic, drawing and colouring pages, extra projects and learning information to expand upon the theme and science behind it.

20150711_180701

The first project of the month is My Color Separation Lab.  It rates medium on both the messiness scale and grownup involvement.  It uses discovering, creating, and exploring skills.  I don’t really understand this one.  You have to draw lines on paper with markers and then let them soak up water to find how they are on the color spectrum.  I’m hoping it makes more sense once we do it but for now even this adult is stumped.

20150711_180743

The other project of the month is My Color Spin Art.  This one is high on the messiness scale and medium on grownup involvement.  Yay this one I get!  You use the big box everything comes in to make a spinner and then drop dots of paint onto the spinning disks to make patterns.  I think this one will be a lot of fun and Bug will love it.  I expect huge mess though so maybe this will be one for when we are camping and can do it outside on a picnic table.

The good thing about these projects is that there is some learning with them, not just crafting.  I’m not sure that Bug gets to much about the science but maybe she’s just absorbing things and will know them later.  We only have a few more months on this one and then I’ll have to decide if we should keep it, get one of their newer more age apporiate ones, or switch to something different.

The theme this month is Spheres And Their Peers.  This is the first thing you see once you open the box and on the back is a sticker to mark your chart for which ones you’ve done and two figures to cut out and colour that are based on the theme.

20150710_182756

Project one this month is My Tangram Game.  It ranks high on the messiness scale and medium on grownup involvement.  It uses creating, discovering and fine moving skills.  With this one you have to make designs on wooden blocks with a crayon and then dye the blocks in the jar with the included colour tabs.  After that’s all dry you place your pieces on the included puzzle mats, trying to make them fit in the shaded areas.  Bug loves puzzles right now but this might be just a bit above her current skill or patience level.  She’ll enjoy the colour and dying parts though.

20150710_182827

Next up this month is My Bubble Shapes.  This one is only medium on the messiness scale but high in grownup involvement.  It uses fine moving, discovering and exploring skills.  This one requires you to use straw and pipe cleaners to create bubble wands in various shapes.  You then dip them in the bubble solution and see what kind of shapes you get.  Instructions are included for four different shapes so you don;t have to try to guess how to make something beyond a triangle.  Bubbles are huge in our house, including indoor bath time blowing so if we can get past the time needed to make the wands, I predict this to be a hit.

La Papierre Stationery Subscription Service June 2015

La Papierre is a stationery subscription service.  The have three different plans depending on how much paper you want/need each month.  Plan A gives you 6 notepads with 4 sheets each for $10.00.  Plan B gives you 6 designs with 8 sheets each for $20.00. Plan C gives you 6 designs with 24 sheets each for $40.00.  All plans have free shipping in Canada. This subscription is based out of Quebec and they have an Etsy shop as well where you can purchase stationery sets in addition to notepads. This month they made a slight change in how they send out patterns.  You used to get a few new designs and a few best sellers.  Now you get all new ones.

20150702_152338

As usual there is the cards from them just telling you about them and thanking you for subscribing.

20150702_152419 20150702_152508 20150702_152446

The first three up are a great vegetable themed one, a vintage girls mail one, and a dinosaur one that completely reminds me of Drumheller.  All three are pretty good and I like that all of them this month except the dino one are lined.  I’m a big fan of lined paper.

20150702_152528 20150702_152556 20150702_152546

These three are my favorites out of the choices this month.  The two are super summer themed, perfect for writing for the next couple of months.  The weird one is for sure my choice for winner.  I think it just says everything that it needs to.  I can’t wait to use it.

I really like La Papierre.  As I mentioned I just went with Plan A so there is only 4 of each style. This month I don;t really dislike any of them.  If I only spend $10.00 here that leaves me room to convince myself I could buy paper elsewhere too.  If you want some paper for yourself click here to get to their website.

Volupties June 2015

Volupties is a monthly subscription service that delivers you three pairs of panties each month.  You select your size and they do the rest.  The also offer a non-plus size subscription on their sister site Splendies.  Subscriptions are $17.00 a month, though you do get $5.00 off your first month.  Shipping to Canada is $7.00.  I think that paying $8.00 each for a pair of panties is pretty good.  I would normally pay around $5.00 for sure and this way I get to find some different ones that maybe aren’t available here.

20150703_175610

Same as last month they show up in a plain plastic mailer bag.  Inside is your panties, wrapped up in tissue paper.  There is no info card but you know what you’re getting…..3 pairs of underwear.

20150703_175656

There seems to be a blue theme this month.  All three pairs are made by Avenue.  They sell their underwear for $8.32 a pair so that’s about right for this subscription.  This pair is a polyester/spandex blend in a jungle print.  They are full coverage but still have a bit of fun to them making them better then plain old undrewear.

20150703_175715

This pair is also a polyester/spandex blend with lace trim around the leg holes and waist.  I like the dark blue contrast and these are another kinda sexy pair.

20150703_175732

Lat up this month is a third pair of polyester/spandex blend apnties.  These are the least exciting of the three but are still not plain old cotton underwear.

I have read on a few other sites that the Splendies ones tend to run bit on the small side but I’ve had no issues with these ones.  They fit well and don’t ride up or slide down your backside.  They ship out each month on the 19th and I get mine right at the beginning of the month.   If you want to try them out make sure you use “VOLUPTIES” to get you $5.00 off.

Bark Box June 2015

Archie’s favorite delivery came the other day and he was all over the box when I brought it into the house.  BarkBox is a toy and treat box just for pups. Prices start at $29 per month but go down to $18 if you choose a yearly plan. Shipping to Canada is $5/month.  Along with the products part of your subscription cost is donated to dogs in need, so along with fun stuff for your pooch you are also helping out dogs that might not be as pampered as yours. You can select from tiny, small & cute, just right, and big & bold sizes to get a selection of products best suited to your dog. The theme this month is Space.

20150622_180825

The box was changed up this month, it’s now wider and flatter then it was.  The paper also matches the theme and is basically awesome as usual.

20150622_180845 20150622_180853

The info card got an upgrade as well this month.  It has the same stuff as before and also some info on Bark Live which is a meet up put on by them.

20150622_180925

BarkMade Flying Saucer-$12.00

This is a weird one.  It has a squeaker in the blue top part but the grey saucer base is hard inside.  Archie will love it once I give it to him but since the babies are sleeping there is a ban on squeaky toys for now.

20150622_180916

West Paw Tizzi-$18.00

This frog looking thing is a cross between a Kong and chew toy.  It is non-toxic and floats….which we’ll never find out about since Archie hates water….hates.  He doesn’t seem to interested in it so far but I have plans to stick a few treats inside and that should do the trick.

20150622_181003

Barkworthies Lamb Lung Chips-$8.00

These all natural treats are low fat, high protein and have Vitamin A in them. They stink and Archie loves them.  He does need to take a few minutes to chew one up, which is nice but they are not a long time, keep him busy chew.

20150622_180953

BarkMade Space Rover Bandana-$7.00

This is cute!  Archie doesn’t seem to mind when we put a bandana on him so this one will join the rotation.  It’s plenty big enough even for his large neck and chest, which I’m happy about.

This month had a value of $45.00 and four items again.  The two toys are fun ones that should get played with and the treats are a hit!  The bandana is more for my enjoyment then his but since I think it’s cool I’m happy.  We only have a couple of months left for this subscription but I have been very happy with it.  The toys and treats have been high quality and I think there might have only been one or two that were not played with.

Look Fantastic June 2015

Look Fantastic Beauty Box is a new box for me.  They are a box from the UK and you will receive a minimum of six products.   Those products will be an assortment of skin, hair, cosmetic and body products.  There also are sometimes high value surprises added to a few boxes randomly.  They promise to have a much higher value than what you pay each month as well.  They have free worldwide delivery on the boxes or things you order from the website.  Their first ever box was in February.  Boxes are $28 a month but go down with 3,6 or 12 month subscriptions.  Shipping was pretty quick for overseas and I received tracking notices as well.  I had a bit of trouble getting this months box due to a problem they had with how they were set up with PayPal.  They had originally had PayPal take the charges out on a monthly basis even if you signed up for a longer term.  Something went wrong with that for them and I ended up having to cancel my original plan and re-sign up again.  There was a bit of back and forth between myself and their customer service but it all got worked out and I was not overcharged at all or missed any boxes.

20150622_180519

Everything seemed a bit tossed about this month but since it does travel overseas to get to me I wasn’t all that surprised about it.  Nothing was damaged just a bit upside down.

20150622_180538 20150622_180553

The info card is big and fold out.  It tells you a few of the specific items you got as well as an overview of a few items that there were options for in certain categories.

20150622_180732

Ren Clean Skincare Glycolactic Mask-15mL $16.50

This mask renews your complexion, reduces fine lines, and improves skin tone.  It is not  clay type mask but more of a thick gel.  I use masks a few times a week, much to the amusement of my family, so I am always happy to get more.

20150622_180721

Nuxe Mini Creme Prodigieuse-15mL $13.26

This is an anti-fatigue moisturizing cream.  It promises to help revive and protect skin while hydrating.  It smells super fresh and absorbed fast and was not at all greasy.  I think I will be happy with this one, it seems really good.

20150622_180705

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum-10mL $26.33

I have already received a sample of this in a different box and am using it right now.  I like it and think it is making a bit of a difference.  I use it almost everyday…if I remember.

20150622_180640

Label.M Protein Spray-50mL $6.73

I’m not entirely sure what this is.  It says  to use after colouring to prevent fading and damage.  It also protects against UV and heat styling.  That would be more of what I might need it for.

20150622_180652

Korres Aloe and Soapwort Shampoo-50mL $2.28

I’ve mentioned it before, I don’t really like getting just a shampoo in a box since it’s hard to use with just any old conditioner.  I’ve only tried a few Korres products but I have liked them.  I’m sure this shampoo will do what all shampoos do.

20150622_180617

Murad Rapid Collagen Infusion-5mL $13.26

This product says it will reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in two hours.  That seems amazing and probably not all that true but I will give this the benefit of the doubt and try it out sometime.

Box three is a little less exciting then the first two but still pretty good.  Mostly face products, so not the wide mix of the others either. Nothing is full sized but the samples are all good sizes.  The box had a value of $78.36.  I’m glad I was able to work out the issues with billing for this one and I’m still excited to see what comes next.  I’m hoping for a few more products not readily available over here.
