Dive Bar Shirt Club July 2015

Dive Bar Shirt Club is a monthly subscription that sends out a limited edition t-shirt from a random bar every month.  Each shirt is only available for that month and then that’s it.  Their tag line is “T-shirts from the best bars you’ve never heard of”. Shirts are $22 a month unless you need XXL or XXXL sizes then add $2.50 and $3.50 respectively. Shipping outside of the USA is $5.  They are just a reoccurring subscription so you can cancel anytime before the next payment is due.  This has been a great find as Hubby looks forward to this one every month.

20150725_175849 20150725_175856

This month takes us to The Rail Pub in Savannah, GA.  It looks like it was converted from a warehouse at one time.  It is near a place where guys used to wait to see if there was a day job for them with the railroad.  This place serves up some odd food, a Ghetto Dawg, which is a hotdog on a slice of white bread with a side of Fritos.  There is also the standard free peanuts.  Following in the odd style….they have a tradition called Rail Pants, where you just randomly drop your pants and pretend you didn’t and everyone else pretends not to see it.  I just don’t know about this place.

I do like the shirt though.  It has a very manly saying and is not offensive in any way.  I like the colour and the logo and just think it might be the best one yet.

Hubby only has one shirt to go before his year is up. He has liked the shirts and even the ones we got almost a year ago are still in great shape and not fading or having the images peel off.  The quality has been good and the shirts have held up and not stretched or shrunk at all.  I would recommend them to anyone who wants a fun shirt from a wide range of places. Check them out by clicking here.

Foot Cardigan July 2015

Foot Cardigan is a monthly delivery of socks.  They are $9.00 a month with shipping being an additional $2.00 per pair.  They offer a men’s or women’s plan though if the socks are really cool they might ship out the same for both sexes.  You can pay by the month or you can purchase a longer plan up front.  If you really want to feel special or if you’re buying a subscription for someone else you can also add gift wrapping for $2.00 a month.  If you go with the year subscription you get one month free.  If you want more then one pair a month you can add on plans and they will send you different pairs of socks.  They also offer a kids sock plan that sends out 2 pairs a month.

Same as last month, my socks showed up in a branded mailer with a packing slip.  This months sock is called Diamonds.  I’m embarrassed to say it took me a while to figure out what the A was for.  I’m going to blame the fact that they are purple not red for my lack of smarts.  They are the same quality casual sock as before and since last months got softer after washing I’m thinking these will do the same. They also have the great “instructions” on them and I’m glad to let them mingle and revisit each other. If you aren’t sure what I mean, check out last months post here.

Two months in and I know I love getting these.  I know socks might seem like just one of those afterthoughts you throw in your cart at Wal-Mart but I really do prefer fun socks.  I have socks for most holidays and occasions so I think this will be a great way to get a few more unusual ones that are different from what I find in stores.  If you want to try them out I can send you a link to get 10% off your subscriptions for as long as you stay with them. It’s not huge but it will almost pay for your shipping fees. You can also check out their website here.

In The Meantime….

Hello Everyone!

You may have noticed that I’ve been absent for a bit, (at least I hope you have).  The kidlets and I are on holidays so there won’t be any posts for the next few weeks.  If I get a chance I may do a one but we are camping and I am not taking the computer with me nor any of my boxes.  I will have a surplus of them to do when I get back.  I have a few new ones to tell you about and a few old ones that gave me some grief over the last few months as well.

I hope everyone is having a great summer and that you manage to get away even for a day and do something fun!

Talk to you soon,

WelliBox July 2015

WelliBox is a Canadian box focusing on healthy options.  It sends you 5-10 samples per month and you can choose your category from womens, mens, 50+, or performance.  Boxes are $10 per month, less with longer plans,  and you are promised $25 worth of products.  Since I’m trying to get healthier and lose some weight I thought it would be a good idea to get a box that might help me out.

The box this month felt so light I thought it was empty.  Inside there was stuff but I felt like it was a let down.

20150716_203527 20150716_203630

Pharmax Relief Trans-Dermal Pain Relief-14X1.5mL $11.85

These are a homeopathic pain reliever cream that you spread onto the affected areas of your body that need help.  There is no strong odor and it is non-greasy.  In the method provided you just bend the sachet and the cream comes out for you to spread.  I can’t seem to find this application method but there are lots of places online selling just the cream.  I will probably let my hubby sue this since he’s older than I am and has more aches and pains.

Lenny & Larry’s All Natural Muscle Brownie in Triple Chocolate-80g $2.99

I cannot even describe how heavy this bar is.  It could be used in self defense if you had enough aim to hit someone with it.  Beyond the denseness….it has 20g of protein, no trans fat and low cholesterol.  They are available in a few flavours and I’m certain I will enjoy it.  I mean really, it’s chocolate.

Garden Of Life Raw Protein in Mangolicious-24g $1.71

I have received a few other flavours of this but never the mango.  I am not a huge fan of protein powder.  I dislike the texture it gives when I throw it into a smoothie.  I can’t really think of any other way I would want to use this.  I know you can add it to pretty much anything but the thought if hiding it in food seems even less appealing.

PUR Gum in Coolmint-9 pack-$1.83

I chew gum all the time and I’m not fussy about kinds or flavours as long as it’s chewy.  I’m glad it’s aspartame free since nothing I’ve read about that lately makes me think it’s good for you.

Vega Sport Electrolyte Hydrator in Berry-3.7g $1.00

I honestly do not do anywhere near the amount of exercise that would require me to need to replace electrolytes.  I DO however enjoy flavoured water.  I’m sure one packet won’t kill me.  This is gluten-free and plant based.

This month has a value of $19.38. This is the first time they have not reached the $25 they say they will include.  It’s normal for there to be one big item and a few bars of supplements as the rest so that is fine but usually the big item is, well, bigger.  I use prices from Well.ca, where I would have get them if I wanted more, since there is nothing included to tell me otherwise. I like that I get to try out a bunch of supplements I mostly have never heard of and it gives me a chance to decide what I might need or should be taking.  I am still cautious with reading the labels since I do still breastfeed my little one and some of these things want you to discuss taking them with your doctor in that situation, but that is to be expected with any new supplements. The last few boxes have been really good and the supplements have long expiry dates making more likely I can finish them before they go bad.

Ipsy Glam Bag July 2015

Ipsy Glam Bag is a beauty subscription that comes in a pink bubble mailer. It is $10USD per month and includes deluxe samples and full sized products. All of your products come in a reusable makeup bag. This months theme is Swim Into Beauty.  All Ipsy bags are selected for the individual person so there is a wide variety of products possible to receive, based on answers you give to a survey and your reviews of your bags. There are plenty of spoilers with this one and you can see exactly what you will be getting a few days before your bag arrives by logging in to your account.

20150716_204325 20150716_204333

The included card lets you know the theme of the month and not much else.  It really is just an advertisement for them and their stylists.

The bag this time is really fun! It seems like it might be a bit smaller then the other ones they normally send but it’s still good.  The change up with the zipper on the front is nice too.

Ofra Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Bliss-$15.00

They say this can be either an eyeshadow or a highlighter.  I occasionally use a highlighter but this will mostly be used as eyeshadow.  The price I used is for a single pot but includes a case so it might be a touch high.  This colour is super shimmery!  I like the colour but it needs to be put on with a slight hand because it can get a bit garish if you put too much on.

Octavio Molina Hair La Playa Salt Spray-59mL $7.75

I think this is now the fourth salt spray I have received in two months.  I need things that add texture since my hair is fine but that’s getting a bit much.  It has a great smell though so I will want to use it just to smell great.

Be A Bombshell Cosmetics Lip Balm in French Kiss-$14.00 Full Size

I have received a bunch of Be A Bombshell products but this is the first lip balm.  It feels really smooth on and gives the barest of tints to my lips.  This is a great inclusion for me.

20150716_204419 20150716_204430

Tarte Deluxe Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess-3g $12.38

I had thought this was full sized but it is actually just a third.  It goes to show that with a bit of good marketing you can get something that makes you feel like you got something special.  I shy away from bronzer most of the time but this is such a great colour for my skin that I may begin on a more regular basis.  It has a fine shimmer that helps with the glow and I am super thrilled.

Vasanti Cosmetics BrightenUp! Exfoliating Cleanser-20g $10.00

I have already received this sample before in my Birchbox December box.  However I like this cleanser a lot so I am glad to get more.  This has a super fine scrub in it that really polishes your skin without being hard on it.  You are supposed to use it a few times a week but I went more and still had no issues.

This months bag has a value of $59.13. I think the price on the lip balm is highly inflated but that is right from the Bombshell site. There were two full sized items this month and the rest are multiple use sizes. I’m not sure how they all go with the theme but then again I never really do. One item is a repeat for me but since I like it it’s okay.  I can maybe limit items that I don’t like by completing the mini surveys about each one and it lets them know how I feel about the type of stuff they send out.   I’m still not super thrilled with the website changes but am learning to get around on it.  If you would like to get in on the bag I’d love it if you’d use my link.  You can also visit their website by clicking here.

Look Fantastic Beauty Box July 2015

Look Fantastic Beauty Box is a newer box from the UK and you will receive a minimum of six products.   Those products will be an assortment of skin, hair, cosmetic and body products.  There also are sometimes high value surprises added to a few boxes randomly.  They promise to have a much higher value than what you pay each month as well.  They have free worldwide delivery on the boxes or things you order from the website.  Their first ever box was in February.  Boxes are $28 a month but go down with 3,6 or 12 month subscriptions.  Shipping was pretty quick for overseas and I received tracking notices as well.  Things are back to normal from last month with the shipping and notices and I had no further problems with billing.

I am glad they use some type of packing since my box comes all the way from overseas, however I hate a strong dislike of these black squiggles.  They shed, for lack of a better word, everywhere.  Anything you touch is covered with black dust and all the products are coated with it.

20150716_203137 20150716_203146

They have a great info card.  It folds out and has a good amount of actual information about each item.  This time all of the actual items are listed.  Sometimes they send a variety of a type of product and then they show all the options.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse-10mL $5.77

This stuff smells great!  I have received a different version of this before and I am always shocked that I can rub oil on myself and not be greasy.  This is usable on your face, body or hair to repair and soften as needed.  It is made up of a blend of 6 plant oils and I do like it a lot.

Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash-50mL $19.61

This cleanser has a really strong scent but is supposed to be mild on your skin.  It is sulphate free and also has no parabens or silicones.  I just used up my other cleanser so this came at the right time.

Lord & Berry Nude Ultimate Lip Colour Pencil-0.9g $18.54??

I can’t tell if this is full sized or not but I’ve priced it as such.  I’m not sure on what skin tone this qualifies as a nude liner but it is way too dark to be that on me.  However it is a great colour and will go with a bunch of my lip products.

Trilogy Everything Balm-10mL $5.15

This one can be used for literally everything. Lips, heels, hands, massages, diapers, faces, and bodies.  It is quite solid so you need to warm it in your fingers before you can spread it about.  It is also free of mineral oil, lanolin, and parabens.

Kebelo Clarifying Shampoo-50mL $4.30

This shampoo promises to cleanse and rejuvenate all hair types.  It is made to detox your hair and get rid of all the buildup from the products you put in to make it do what you want.  It is perfectly clear and has no smell at all.  I’m excited to try this even though I still hate getting only shampoo in a box.

Monu Firming Fiji Facial Oil-40mL $21.42

They recommend you use this at night after cleansing and toning so that it can really absorb and work.  It is a blend of rose and patchouli oils and I think it stinks.  I don’t really have a great desire to cover my whole face in this.  I might give it a few tries just to see if it really makes a difference.

This months box was better in the mix of products than last month.  There hasn’t been much makeup in these boxes so I like that they put some in.  The value this month is $74.79 if I have the correct price on the lip liner.  I’m really glad I found this box.  It has been really good so far and I keep enjoying opening it up each month.

Bonjour Jolie TOM Box June 2015

Bonjour Jolie is a time-of-the-month box that sends you your necessary items plus some other products to make you feel a little better during that special time.  You give them some information about your period and then select the 25 items you need in any variation of pads, liners or tampons.  They have a wide selection of brands, so no matter what you use they can cover you. They also include a gift, bath and body items, teas and drinks, candy and snacks, some wipes and if you want, some Advil.  Boxes shipped to Canada are $24.50 a month but do decrease somewhat if you order in 3 or 6 month plans.  You can also add on some extras like heating pads or more Advil for additional costs.

This month’s theme is Summer.  The card details what you got and where you can get more of them.

The inside of the box.  I like that everything comes in it’s own little bag.  It just means each part feels like another present for you.

Let’s get these out of the way first.  You pick what you want to receive, up to 25 items.  They have a bunch of choices so you should be able to find what you would normally use.

20150715_203338 20150715_203406

The Gift for this month is a Calla Lily Necklace from Ellies Button on Etsy.  This is worth $18.00 and is very pretty.  It is silver plated and has a Swarovski Pearl as the center.  I didn’t even know Swarovski did pearls.  It was chosen since the pearl is June’s birthstone.

20150715_203248 20150715_203316

The Pampering-$4.00

Beyond the Advil and cleansing wipes, the special pampering items this month are from Beekman 1802 Company.  On the info card there is a little note from the company telling you about them and that this collection is based on the clean simplicity of life in the country.  They sent out Fresh Air Shower Gel and Goat Milk Lotion.  Both are worth $2.00 each.  They really do smell fresh.  The only issue I have is that once again they seem like hotel products.  Also since there is just the two of them, it’s not all that pampering.

20150715_203118 20150715_203218

The Edibles-$6.00

These treats are so summery and also take me back to being a kid.  My info card says I should have received Boston Fruit Slices but I got the Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies instead.  That ‘s okay with me.  I would have enjoyed either.  Also in my bag are BB Bats Taffy Lollipops, which I didn’t even know they made anymore since I haven’t seen them since I was a youth Trick or Treating, Jolly Rancher stick, Coconut Long Boys, Brach’s Ie Cream Nougats, and True Citrus Drink Packets.  I can’t wait to dig into these!

This was my last box from them and it was as good as the rest.  I would continue to get this one but the exchange rate is so horrible right no  I enjoy discovering the  couple of things besides the feminine items.  The extras are worth $35.00, which means this month is over the amount I paid.  No one is buying this box for the value though.  With a coupon and a trip to the grocery store I can get more products for less but the little helpers are a way to not have to think about the reason for the box.  It’s also one less thing to remember to buy if you have them delivered.

Birchbox July 2015

With Birchbox you get monthly boxes of five personalized beauty samples, tailored to your profile. They promise to help you try cult brands, up-and-coming lines, and everything in between.  They also say you will never receive the same product twice.  Birchbox runs at $10.00 per month plus $4.95 shipping but you can get yearly plans for $100.00 plus shipping as well.  This makes it one of the more affordable boxes out there. Each box is different and reflects the theme of the month.

I got one of the themed boxes again this month, which is always pleasant.  This month they have teamed up with Best Health and want you to Go For The Gold.  They say this box is filled with products to help you have the happiest, healthiest summer yet.

20150717_143209 20150717_143218

The info card give you a bit of a rundown on Best Health magazine.  On the back you have your list of products and the retail prices of full sized versions.

Acure Organics Brightening Facial Scrub-30mL $3.75

I was so not expecting this to come out and be super dark brown.  It has that weird smell that I associate with things that are supposed to be good for you.  The scrub is pretty gentle and definitely exfoliating.  It also promises to stimulate cell growth.

Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Mascara-3g $10.24

I’ve received this mascara before and I like it.  It gives a great full lash without the clumping and smearing that is the worst part of summer makeup wearing.  I like these sized samples of mascara.  They last me a month and then I can try something new.  I have always found Benefit makeup to be good and I’m happy to get more.

Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therapy Body Lotion-40mL $3.04

I just finished using up a body wash made by this company I received a few boxes ago and this has the same scent.  I find it a touch on the masculine side but it’s light and fresh.  This absorbed super quick and is not greasy feeling at all.

Rusk Hair Care Heatshift Re-Styling Cream-28g $6.47

I find it odd that this came without a cap.  It looks and feels like it should have one.  It was not in the box and since it was not a mess I guess it doesn’t matter. You can use this as a regular styler on damp hair right out of the shower, then when you want to change it up you blast it with a hair dryer and then redo it how you want.  I’m not sure about how well this will work on my hair (more from lack of effort on my part) but it smells fantastic!!!

20150717_143312 20150717_143324

theBalm Cosmetics Balm Desert Bronzer/Blush in Take A Dip-0.8g $2.67

I normally shy away from bronze/tan blushes but this one is just so shimmery and looks almost peachy on my skin I think I’ll give it a go.  The sample is oddly small for something you would apply with a brush but I’m sure we can make it work.

This months value for this box was $26.17. That is the lowest I’ve received and half of that this month is the mascara.  I’m shocked because I like everything and was expecting a higher value. You get points for reviewing your box items, that you can then use in their store.  If you find a product you love, any item in your box has free shipping for the month also. The American boxes do have a few more perks like selecting one of your samples and a mens box but I am hopeful once they get settled in Canada the same types of options will be available.

If you want to sign up send me a message and I can get you a link.  You can also go to their Canadian site by clicking here.

Prudence And The Crow June 2015

Prudence and the Crow is a vintage book subscription box.  In each box you get a book, a book bag, a library card and treats.  The books are almost always 20 years old or older and are used books they pick up.  You can select from a few genres or you can choose random and see what you get.  There is a little survey to fill out to let them know what you like.  Subscriptions are 12 British Pounds a month plus 4 pounds shipping internationally.  You can also sign up for terms but there is no discount for that.  Boxes ship on the 13th of each month and mine took just over a month to reach me but it can be anywhere from 10 days and up.

20150703_175835 20150703_175853

They changed the packaging again this month.  Now it is just a cardboard envelope with another envelope containing the stuff inside it.

20150703_175923 20150703_175938

This months book is The Human Angle by William Tenn.  It is another science fiction novel.  This book was published in 1956 and consists of stories first published in magazines.  It doesn’t really say anywhere what they are about but I’m thinking they will be enjoyable.  It has an original price of $0.35.

My treasures this month were the library card showing the date and what book I’m on, two Moam Stripes, a dog sticker, a giraffe sticker, a book plate, a collector card from tea, and a blank notebook.

Prudence And The Crow May 2015

Prudence and the Crow is a vintage book subscription box.  In each box you get a book, a book bag, a library card and treats.  The books are almost always 20 years old or older and are used books they pick up.  You can select from a few genres or you can choose random and see what you get.  There is a little survey to fill out to let them know what you like.  Subscriptions are 12 British Pounds a month plus 4 pounds shipping internationally.  You can also sign up for terms but there is no discount for that.  Boxes ship on the 13th of each month and mine took just over a month to reach me but it can be anywhere from 10 days and up.

They have changed up the boxes for this one.  They are now a bit smaller and it seems like it might be costing them a bit less to send.  However I pay 4 Pounds in shipping and it’s costing them 5 Pounds so it’s still very reasonable shipping.

20150624_181555 20150624_181604

The book this month is Perry Rhodan 1 Enterprise Stardust by K.H.Scheer & Kurt Mahr.  It is obviously Science Fiction and says that it is the world’s top-selling S.F. series.  I’m thinking that’s probably changed in the intervening 40 years but at the time it had sold over 70 million copies.  I love sci-fi so this is a great book for me.  It’s about a commander who lands on the moon and finds alien lifeforms with vast knowledge who test Major Rhodan before agreeing to work with humans.  I think it’s always fun to see what 1974 thought about what the future would be like.  This version of the book was published in 1974 and at the time was $1.00.  I’m thinking at most book stores that’s still about the right price.

As for my extras this month, I got my library card showing this is number 4 for me, Twinnings Smoky Lapsang amd Pukka Three Mint teabags, a goat sticker, (how wonderfully random), 2 old cancelled stamps, and a vintage photoof a mom with her three children.   If I had to guess from the style of clothing it looks like maybe late 1920’s or early 1930’s.  It’s a neat addition that gives an oddly personal touch, even though I have no idea who they are.

This box is about curation not value.  I think it’s worth what I paid and I love books.  I am always happy to get new books and I have no issue with older novels.  The monthly option is still open right now if you want to sign up.  You can visit their website by clicking here.
