Doodlebug Busy Bags June 2015

A new subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags.  The website describes them as….”DoodleBug Busy Bags is a monthly craft subscription for kids ages 3 – 10. DoodleBug Busy Bags keep little hands busy and little minds active. Each month your child will receive a bag of 4 – 8 curated crafts, often centered on a holiday or seasonal theme, and all the supplies your child needs to complete each activity. Once completed, the crafts may be used as learning tools, decorations, toys, or given away as gifts. DoodleBug Busy Bags are fun, easy to complete, and help develop motor skills, creativity, hand-eye coordination, and confidence.”  Bags are $23.99 including shipping and go down with longer subscriptions.  This months theme is On The Farm & Father’s Day.

20150624_204044 20150624_204059

All of the crafts come in this type of zippy bag with any extra bits you might need for each craft.  The instructions for each are in their individual bags but there is a main sheet showing what you got and any tips or help you might need to complete everything.

3D Barn Craft Kit

The last time we got one of these building type projects I had to get Grandma to help her with it because I just ddin’t have the patience at the time to fuss with it.  I’m hoping this one will be less stressful for me. Bug loves them.

Farm Animals

So this obviously is not a craft but I guess goes with the above item to make a playset.  They will get played with until I step on them and lose my sh*t.

Farm Animal Reader

This is a little book about carp.  I honestly have never thought about looking for carp when I go to a farm but maybe I’m going to the wrong type of farms.  Books are a win every time.

Farm Stickers

This one is a bit cheesy, it’s just a piece of paper and a sheet of stickers to put on it.  Not really a craft.

Farm Animal Playing Cards

These are a regular deck of cards but with animals instead of normal suits.  We only use cards as matching games at this point but now we can add animal names to the fun.

Farm Animal Magnet Craft Kit

It looks like we got the horse and if the level of fun the previous months magnet kits brought is anything to go by this might be the winner of favorite craft for Bug.

Father’s Day Crafts

There are three crafts in this bag, Picture Frame Magnet Craft Kit, Super Dad Sticker Card, and Beaded Key CHain Kit.  This parcel arrived after Father’s Day had passed but that won’t stop us from making and giving them to Dad.  He’ll enjoy getting them.

As noted before all of these crafts are from Oriental Trading but since I don’t have to purchase them in large quantities off the site and everything we need to create is included in the bag, I like this. If you need glue or anything else that does not come in the prepackaged craft they make sure it’s in your bag so you really do not have to run to the store. It’s also nice that each of these crafts are fairly quick and we can do them in the short time between bath and bedtime when we need to be winding down.  I’m a little disappointed with this month.  There is only five actual crafts and that’s what I;m looking for out of this subscription.  Hopefully next month has a better ratio.

Lip Monthly June 2015

Lip Monthly is a monthly subscription box that sends out a selection of lip products.  You also get your selections in a reusable makeup bag.  Lip Monthly is $10.00 a month, with reduced rates for 4 month or annual plans.  You also can accumulate points that can be redeemed in their shop.  Shipping to Canada is an additional $5 a month but this is still a really affordable subscription. They used to ship out in a plain mailer but have stepped it up and now it’s a gold mailer.  Really sparkly and this month showed up with Ipsy, which is a pink mailer, so my mailbox was highly glittery.

The last few months have had some new bags from them.  The repetition of bags was a major complaint for a lot of subscribers.  I didn’t really care but the new ones have been pretty cool looking.  The only downside to them is that they absolutely reek.  That first whiff when you open the mailer bag is pure toxic plastic smell, I’m thinking made worse by it being warm out now.

20150625_181409 20150625_181418

With the new bags comes a simplified info card.  They used to have a short little blurb about why things were selected but now it’s to the point.  Here’s what you got and the retail prices.

Be A Bombshell Lipstick in Hollywood-$14.00

This is a red/wine shade.  I’m not sure what is up but lately everyone is including these dark colours in their boxes and I am not a huge fan of them.  They are just not an everyday shade for me with my job and life.  The colour looks fine on me and I like the formula and brand but it will get used much less then a somewhat lighter colour would.

So Susan Color Hybrid Lip/Cheek Mousse in Marsala-$17.50

I haven’t got the slightest idea how you could use this a cheek tint.  It is soooo red!  It is actually the color of the tube.  As a lipstick is goes on okay, brushed on, not applied from the tube.  The colour again is a bit dark for my personal taste but if feels really great on and promises to make my lips soft and less chapped.

20150625_181441 20150625_181543 20150625_181515

J.Cat Beauty Flying Solo Eyeshadow in Ticket To Stardom-$2.99

This cute little eyeshadow has all you need concealed inside.  The lid lifts up to reveal a tiny mirror and applicator.   I think this is a great peach/copper shade and it has a good shimmer that doesn’t look cheap.  My favorite item from the bag this month.

Jelly Pong Pong Paradise Pigments Lip/Cheek Cream in Fig Jam-$19.95

This one again really cannot be used on your cheeks.  It is PINK!  On my lips I love it though.  It smells great, goes on super smooth, and feels silky when I rub my lip together.  It’s a little odd that they included this brand in the bag this time since Jelly Pong Pong is part of So Susan, meaning they have two items from the same company but since I’m happy with this product, I’ll forgive them.

This months bag has a value of $54.44, which is really good.  Everything is full sized too.  I am not super excited about the first two lip items, just based on colour.  It was an okay month, maybe next time will be better. If you would like to sign up I’d love it if you’d use my link.

Phone Case Of The Month June 2015 Updated

Phone case of the month sends you out a new case for your phone once a month.  You can get a new case for your iPhone or Samsung Galaxy right now but they are looking to expand that if there is a large amount of need for other brands. They have also just started providing cases for the iPhone6 too.  The case is $10 per month and shipping to Canada is another $5. While they are no where near as protective a case as an Otterbox they are a fun way to switch things up.  I was stunned at how much lighter my phone was with this case as opposed to the Otterbox I had on there. Never realized it was so big till it was gone. You get a case, a little info card, and a treat! This one always shows up really close to the end of the month for me.

Back to the cotton bag this month.

I LOVE this case.  Which is why I’m so sad.  Unfortnately there is something that is just off about it and I cannot use it.  It pops off as soon as I put it on.  I emailed them and got a reply within a few hours and they will be sending me out a new case.  The sad part is that it will not be the same one just to make sure it isn’t a flaw with that pattern.  So while I’m very happy with the service I received I wish this case would work.

I have finally made up y mind and will be cancelling this subscription once my new case arrives.  I like getting a new case each month but the exchange rate still hasn’t come back up so this one is costing me a bit more then I’d like. It’s still cheaper or comparable to buying them from a mall kiosk though.  If you want to get your own cases you can check them out by clicking here.

I have received my new case for the replacement of the one that didn’t fit.

It’s okay but I still wish the owl one fit.  I am happy with how quickly this issue was resolved and I wasn’t even charged a shipping fee.

Ipsy Glam Bag June 2015

Ipsy Glam Bag is a beauty subscription that comes in a pink bubble mailer. It is $10USD per month and includes deluxe samples and full sized products. All of your products come in a reusable makeup bag. This months theme is Swim Into Beauty.  All Ipsy bags are selected for the individual person so there is a wide variety of products possible to receive, based on answers you give to a survey and your reviews of your bags. There are plenty of spoilers with this one and you can see exactly what you will be getting a few days before your bag arrives by logging in to your account.

The bag this month is pretty cool.  I don’t know what it’s made out of but it’s a bit squishy feeling.  It has a neon orange zipper as well.

20150625_181938 20150625_181952

The included card just gives you a blurb about the theme, not any information on your products.  All of that requires you to log into your account and see your homepage.

J.Cat Beauty Lipitude Hydrating Lip Stain in Blow Your Mind-$5.99 Full Size

There were two colour options sent out to subscribers this month, both pink shades.  I still don’t like these types of formulas.  It’s almost like a runny lipstick as opposed to a gloss texture.  It gives really dark coverage and smells great but I’m just not really into it.

Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer-.25oz $8.52

Primer is my favorite thing ever!  This one is gel like and smooths out very easily.  I use primer every day and can’t get enough of it so I am thrilled to get this this month.

BioRepublic SkinCare Sheet Mask Trio-$11.25 for 3

It’s nice that they consider this one item in your bag instead of three.  I received the Green Tea Detox, Cucumber Breeze, and Aloe Rescue masks.  These are not a mask you spread on your skin but ones that are pre-soaked sheets you press on and wear for 20 minutes.  With kids to chase this can be difficult so I will have to try these after they are in bed.

NYC New York Color Liquid Eyeliner-$2.77 Full Size

I have the smallest ability to apply liquid liner so this is scary for me.  I just can’t seem to get the hang of it.  I misjudge the pressure and can’t make a straight line even if I use the feather stroke method.  I think this is a good sample, it’s just bad for me.

tre’StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon in Kona Coffee-$10.67

I swear that is how this product is spelled, even though my spell check might have exploded after I typed it.  This glides on so easily and it’s really dark.  I might use this more like a liner then a shadow.  There were four shades sent out and there definitely were two others I’d have prefered but I still like the product.

This months bag has a value of $39.20.  There were three full sized items this month and the rest are multiple use sizes. I’m not sure how they all go with the theme but that’s not really a concern for me. There are two items that I’m not all excited about but it’s a personal preference issue not bad products.  I can maybe limit items that I don;t like by completing the mini surveys about each one and it lets them know how I feel about the type of stuff they send out.   I’m still not super thrilled with the website changes but am learning to get around on it.  If you would like to get in on the bag I’d love it if you’d use my link.  You can also visit their website by clicking here.

Birchbox June 2015

With Birchbox you get monthly boxes of five personalized beauty samples, tailored to your profile. They promise to help you try cult brands, up-and-coming lines, and everything in between.  They also say you will never receive the same product twice.  Birchbox runs at $10.00 per month plus $4.95 shipping but you can get yearly plans for $100.00 plus shipping as well.  This makes it one of the more affordable boxes out there. Each box is different and reflects the theme of the month.

This month’s box theme is Adventure. It’s nice that I got the patterned box this month.  I normally get the plain brown box.

20150622_175952 20150622_180041

Under the lid was one of my samples plus a few cards.  Under the wrapping paper were the rest of my items.  The smaller ones are inside the little bubble.

20150622_180052 20150622_180100

The info card tells you all about the theme on the front.  With adventure this time they want you to say yes to whatever comes your way.  The back gives you your items and full size retails.

Also included this month was a special code to possible win $1000 to use in their shop and travel tips from Meghan Markle, the coordinator of this box.  I got 20% off any $50+ purchase.

Coastal Scents Revealed 3 Eyeshadow Quad-2.4g $5.00

This normally comes as a palette of 20 shades.  I really like these four though.  The two on the right are sparkly and the left two are more matte.  This one will get used for sure.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Brightening Illuminator-1g $11.64

This highlighter is super shimmery!  I guess because it’s going into summer there has been highlighters in a bunch of boxes.  I use them a few days a week but I think I might have plenty now.

Naobay Oxygenating Cream Moisturizer-20mL $18.00

This moisturizer is made from avocado and olive oils.  It has a great smell and absorbed super quick, which I like so I can get my makeup on and finished without waiting for things to dry up.

Parlor By Jeff Chastain Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray-30mL $5.51

The last time I got a salt spray my husband couldn’t understand why anyone would be putting this in their hair.  He’s bald though so it may have just been misplaced jealousy that other people have hair.  I like using these sprays because I have very fine and thin hair so any texture I can add is great.

Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels-1pr $4.13

I have used these before  and while I’m not sure just using them once gave me a whole lot of difference I liked them.  They feel a little odd on since they are heavy and I kept thinking they were going to slide off but I can deal with it for the ten minutes required.

20150622_180406 20150622_180414

Pura Vida Lace Headband with Charm-$2.25

This was a bonus item this month.  It’s actually the first ribbon headband I have used and it felt a bit tight on my head but that might be how they all are.  It just works out that the company and I share an initial.

This months value for this box was $46.53. You get points for reviewing your box items, that you can then use in their store.  If you find a product you love, any item in your box has free shipping for the month also. The American boxes do have a few more perks like selecting one of your samples and a mens box but I am hopeful once they get settled in Canada the same types of options will be available.

If you want to sign up send me a message and I can get you a link.  You can also go to their Canadian site by clicking here.

Glossybox June 2015

Glossybox gives you 5 deluxe samples of beauty products a month for $21.00 plus $5.00 shipping to Canada but do get cheaper with longer terms.  The buzz on the interweb feels that Glossybox has one of the best packaging of any of the boxes.  Every month they curate a selection of high-end, niche, and trendy beauty products in deluxe travel sizes that they send out and I thought I’d give them a try.  They have been shipping to Canada for a little while now.

It’s always so pretty under the lid.  Bows and paper and stickers.  They do a good job of making you feel special.

20150619_161649 20150619_161658

They have a really nice info card too.  It tells you what you got, obviously, and full size retails.  It also gives you a tip for that product.

Rich Hair Care Pure Luxury Intense Moisture Shampoo-80mL $3.99

I am not all that fond of getting just shampoo in a box.  I always use conditioner and this is two months in a row I’ve got just shampoo.  This one uses coconut oil to reduce static and add shine.  It smells like good shampoo and I’m sure it will be great, just as soon as I find some conditioner.

Orly Nail Lacquer in Lola-5.3mL $2.55

This is such a cute little bottle of polish!  It is about 1/6th of a normal one.  There were a variety of shades sent out but I like this one.  It is a bright pink/coral shade and perfect for summer.  The only downside I have with it is that I’ve already received a few polishes in similar colours recently.  I have very few of this brand though.

20150619_161808 20150619_161830

Too Faced Cosmetics Better Than Sex Mascara-4.8g $14.48

This mascara promises to give tons of volume and length.  It is collagen-fulled, whatever that means.  It’s smudge-proof and has a shaped brush to give definition and curl.  I can’t wait to try it.

Etre Belle Cosmetics Aloe Vera Ultra Moisturizing Gel-40mL $24.95

I was surprised that this tube was full sized, it’s more like a sample size.  It smells fantastic and it not sticky like most gels are.  It is a super light moisturizer and will be great for when it gets really warm out.

Doucce Blush Brush-$32.00

This is a kabuki style brush.  It’s really short for a blush brush.  I am not too sure how I feel about it.  It’s way more expensive then I would ever pay for a brush.  I’ve bought whole sets for less.  It does not say what the bristles are made out of but I’m guessing they are synthetic.

This months box was okay for me.  I’m iffy on the brush and so so on the polish but that’s just personal taste not a reflection on the items sent .  The value this month is super high, $77.97.  There were three full size products, if you count the brush as one and the other ones were larger multiple use sizes.  This box has been a consistent winner and is worth the slightly higher price tag to me.

Kawaii Box June 2015

Kawaii Box is a monthly box of items selected from Japanese and Korean kawaii products.  Kawaii means cute so everything is based on that premise.  They ship anywhere in the world with free shipping and the box is $18.90 a month.  This has quickly become one of my favorite boxes that I receive.  It is full of things that no one really needs, but I’m always so thrilled to get.  I cannot see me getting rid of this box anytime in the near future.  I love this box and I haven’t been able to find stationary boxes that come close.  This is my favourite box hands down!!!!!

20150616_091300 20150616_091310

Bit of a change this month, instead of a handwritten note there is branded tissue paper instead.  I could already see things I liked once I moved the paper away.

This is a Hello Kitty donut squishy.  How freakin’ awesome is that?  I have taken all of these to work and now I just need to string up a line so I can hang them and make my coworkers wonder about me even more then they do.

I’m not entirely sure what this is but I’m going to go with llama wristlet.  It has both a key ring and a clip to attach it to a bag, along with the strap.  It has a card slot that would hold your basic ID.  It’s cute and fun and I will find a need for it.

Continuing with the llamas, next up out of the box was a llama eraser.  Oddly it is a 2015 Year Of The Sheep eraser.  You can’t tell from the photo but it is covered in glitter.  Yay!

Greatest hair tie ever!!!!!  I am now going to wear this until it either stretches beyond use or breaks.  I wish I had received 20 of them

Another phone charm in the box.  This one is a crepe, filled with cream, fruit, and wafer cookies.  Bizarre and wonderful all in one.

LOVE!!!!!!!!  This banana is the best thing in the box this month hands down.  He’s so cute and I love him.  Lots.

And more llamas!  These are stickers and there is an assortment of llamas, sheep and bunnies.  They are cute and I have plans for them.

20150616_091558 20150616_091616

It took me a minute to figure out what this was but once I got it open it was all good.  I think this one will go to the girls as there is no way I could get a fine tooth comb through my hair.

20150616_091654 20150616_091701

I don’t know what Okitori is but I like notepads.  This one comes with a pen, stencil and string to make it portable.  The pages are lined and have the big white bear on the bottom corner.

This is a Rilakkuma letter set.  In miniature.  It has two “stamps”, two envelopes, and paper.  I might include it in a real letter to a penpal.  Awesome!

My lack of language skills means I have no idea what this says but I’m going to go with grape flavoured bubble gum.  It reminds me of the grape Gold Rush gum you used to be able to buy when I was a kid.

As usual I like this box, just incase you couldn’t tell. The stuff is fun and cute and brings me happiness.  If you have any interest in Kawaii then you should get this box!

Dive Bar Shirt Club June 2015

Dive Bar Shirt Club is a monthly subscription that sends out a limited edition t-shirt from a random bar every month.  Each shirt is only available for that month and then that’s it.  Their tag line is “T-shirts from the best bars you’ve never heard of”. Shirts are $22 a month unless you need XXL or XXXL sizes then add $2.50 and $3.50 respectively. Shipping outside of the USA is $5.  They are just a reoccurring subscription so you can cancel anytime before the next payment is due.  This has been a great find as Hubby looks forward to this one every month.

20150619_161311 20150619_161320

This month takes us to the Coach House in Scottsdale, AZ.  It seems to be your typical dark crowded interior but also has an outdoor patio for people watching while you drink your beers.  It says that it has held on to its original charm while all around it the places have converted to a more modern clientele.

20150619_161351 20150619_161408

The shirt has a small logo on the front and then the big one on the back.  It is in the vintage style fit again this month.  Hubby said he really likes this one.  I’m starting to notice that he wears these shirts in a rotation with only a few others thrown in so I guess all of them have been hits.

I only plan to get two more of these shirts before cancelling the plan.  We have enjoyed them and even the ones we got almost a year ago are still in great shape and not fading or having the images peel off.  The quality has been good and the shirts have held up and not stretched or shrunk at all.  I would recommend them to anyone who wants a fun shirt from a wide range of places.

Beauty Box 5 June 2015

Beauty Box 5 is a subscription box that sends out 5 products or samples every month. They might be makeup, beauty accessories, hair, skincare, fragrance, body, or nail products. It is another of the cheaper ones at $12 a month or even less if you sign up for a longer term. They do charge $3 a month to ship to Canada though.  If I’m being honest though this box has been very hit or miss for me.  Sometimes the products included are so random or so not what I would think should be in a beauty box that I wonder what they are thinking.  Other times it’s really good.

Under the lid all I can see is the card.  This months theme is Bon Voyage.

Once I removed that I could see some stuff finally but I could already tell this was one of the bad boxes.

The back of the card gives you what you got, a little blurb about it and full size retails.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara-3mL $5.50

This is the best item in the box and it’s something I received in another box back in March.  I think it also might be the most expensive item sent out this month.  I like getting mascara samples and I like this mascara, however the fact that it’s something that was promoted as a new item a while ago is a little letdown.

Herbal Essences Body Wash in Body Burst-35mL $0.27

I didn’t even know Herbal Essences made body wash.  This smells good and I’m sure it will lather up and do it’s job.  It’s a good sized sample but it’s something you can get a lot of places for free.

LOL Rotational Eye Shadow in Splash That Cash-$3.00

I have to admit that when I saw this all I could think was that this was from the dollar store.  It has six shades, all of which are darker and has that odd cheap eyeshadow smell.  If my girls were older this would go straight to them for playing with.  There were some other colours sent out so maybe they were better.

Nails Inc. Nail Polish in Royal Botanical Gardens-$9.50

Well i guess this wins as most expensive item in the box.  It’s a good colour but it goes on a little thick, not in a good way.  There were multiple colours of this sent out in boxes.

Simple Skincare Micellar Cleansing Water-0.17mL $0.00

This cannot even be really called a sample.  It is a pre-soaked wipe pad and a coupon.  Wow.

This month was a complete disaster.  The box value is $18.27 and half of that is the nail polish alone.  The polish and eyeshadow are both full size.  The Simple sample is something that gets put in your mailbox.  They did also include a $20 gift card for but you have to spend $49.95 before you can use it, so it doesn’t really count for anything.  If for some reason you want to give them a go I would definitely look around for sales.  This box gets really cheap every few months.

Ecocentric Mom June 2015

Ecocentric mom subscription boxes focus on healthy, natural, organic products. You can choose from a pregnancy box, a mom box, or a mom and baby box. They ship every other month and are $24. I went with the mom and baby box to get a few things for me while getting stuff for the wee one that is maybe less full of bad things then what I might just buy off a store shelf. This is my last box from them as we have now aged out of their baby boxes.  I could continue with the mom box but I already get a different box that has similar products so I don’t feel that this one would bring me alone much joy.

These boxes always come nicely wrapped and this month is no exception.

Under the paper I could only see two bags of chips and nothing else so I was still curious.

20150616_091851 20150616_091858

The info card is double sided and along with the product info, pricing and websites, it gives you a few tips.  This month they are about being a radiant mom.

Lillian Eve Nail Polish in Sweet Dreams-$12.00 Full Size

There were two colour options sent out, Sweet Dreams or Bliss.  The polish is vegan, cruelty-free and toxin-free.  My colour is a pale apricot or peach shade and I like it.  It goes on pretty sheer so you need a few coats to get total coverage but it’s a good shade for summer.

20150616_092032 20150616_092102

Bella Organics Vanilla Mint Deodorant Creme-0.25oz $3.99

I am becoming a bit of a convert to the natural deodorants.  They work great and have a much better smell then the conventional ones.  This one is very minty, it smells like Altoids taste, just that potent full on mint.  They also included a code for a discount off their website.

20150616_091945 20150616_092112

Meloria K Laundry Powder-2 Load Sample $2.99

This laundry soap is fragrance, dye and brightener free.  It’s good for use in regular and HE machines.  This sample actually will do 4 loads in an HE washer but as I only have the normal one, it’s just 2.  I have not really tried any non-commercial laundry soaps since I buy whatever is on sale or that I have a coupon for so this will be an interesting one.  The full sized canister is $15.99 for 64 loads so it’s not a whole lot more expensive then others but I’m guessing there would be shipping fees on top.

20150616_091908 20150616_091920

Simply 7 Hummus and Quinoa Chips-28oz & 23oz $1.00 each

Both chips are sea salt flavoured and appear to have a tortilla like texture.  I wasn’t feeling like chips as I’m writing this so I did not open them to try but I have yet to be disappointed in some of the alternative chip options I’ve received.  I like that I can feel marginally better about letting the girls have a couple of these instead of normal chips that are just bad for everyone.

Goddess Garden Organics Sunscreen-oz $5.29

This is the forth or fifth sample of this brand of sunscreen I’ve received in the last little while.  While I would like a bit of variety, I’ve used a few up already and it works great on me and the kids.  They have a range of them for different applications and I think they are just as good as the chemical types.

Ecocentric Soap in Lemongrass-4oz bar $6.00

This soap smells so fresh.  I love handmade soaps like this and while I didn’t know they had their own brand of products I like that they included a full size bar to try it out.  They have two other scents, Oatmeal Spice and Lavender.

This months box had a value of $32.27, most of which is the nail polish. I think this was a good box full of things we’ll use but there was not a single thing in here for baby. This box was entirely for mom, which is okay if I had signed up for the mom box.  I’m not sure why this happened but as it’s my last box I am a bit sad there was no final baby fun.  I am now on the hunt for a toddler box and while there are a bunch that deliver to the US I’m hitting a bit of a wall getting anything here.  I’ll kepp looking but if you want to give these guys a try you can check them out by visiting
