Ipsy May 2015

Ispy is a beauty subscription that comes in a pink bubble mailer. It is $10USD per month and includes deluxe samples and full sized products. All of your products come in a reusable makeup bag. This months theme is Jetsetter.  All Ipsy bags are selected for the individual person so there is a wide variety of products possible to receive. There are plenty of spoilers with this one and you can see exactly what you will be getting a few days before your bag arrives by logging in to your account.

There were three bags sent out this month.  I’m okay with this one.  It’s a canvas bag and square instread of the usual rectangle.

20150529_090208 20150529_090227

The info card as normal, doesn’t say anything about the products you get.  All that info is found on your personal page on their website.

20150529_090502 20150529_090449

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Ozone & Bonus Lip Gloss-0.8g $13.33

This lip pencil is clear and they recommend it as a primer for your gloss.  It’s about half of a full size and while it’s been years since I’ve used a clear lip pencil I’m not against it at all.  The two gloss samples ar really dark but maybe with a light touch they can be worn.

Chella Eyebrow Colour Pencil in Tantalizing Taupe-$18.00 Full Size

Surprisingly this eyebrow pencil is in the right colour for me.  The last brow product I received was too dark so I am in need of this new one.  I like the pencil form as I can get it where I need with no hassle.

Klorane Smoothing And Relaxing Patches-$6.43/pouch x 2

These are little patches you place under your eye to help reduce bags and lines and make you look refreshed.  I received 2 pouches, which is nice.  I have tried a different brand I received in another box and liked those ones so I’m thinking the result will be the same here.  My hubby and kids give me odd looks while I wear them but I’m okay with that too.

Luxie Beauty Tapered Blending Eye Brush 205-$12.00

I didn’t even realise anyone thought about this but this brush is vegan.  It is also animal cruelty free, which is awesome and is coated with an antibacterial solution to prevent germs.  The bristles are nice and soft and it’s good to have spare brushes.

CoTZ Face Natural SPF40-10g $4.66

Yay for it actually feeling warm enough to remember to wear sunscreen!!!!  If I don’t have little samples of specific face sunscreen I never put it on.  I lather the kids like I own stock in it but for myself, unless I know I’m going to be out all day I rarely remember.  This one is slightly tinted and has a matte finish.  I think that’s genius because so many make you shiny and then you’re patting more crap on top to hide that and suddenly you like like a crazy person.

This months bag has a value of $60.85.  Wow! Another great month for them value wise. I like that there was a full sized item and the rest are multiple use sizes. I’m not sure how they all go with the theme but that’s not really a concern for me.   I’m still not super thrilled with the website changes but am learning to get around on it.  If you would like to get in on the bag I’d love it if you’d use my link.  You can also visit their website by clicking here.

Phone Case Of The Month May 2015

Phone case of the month sends you out a new case for your phone once a month.  You can get a new case for your iPhone or Samsung Galaxy right now but they are looking to expand that if there is a large amount of need for other brands. They have also just started providing cases for the iPhone6 too.  The case is $10 per month and shipping to Canada is another $5. While they are no where near as protective a case as an Otterbox they are a fun way to switch things up.  I was stunned at how much lighter my phone was with this case as opposed to the Otterbox I had on there. Never realized it was so big till it was gone. You get a case, a little info card, and a treat! This one always shows up really close to the end of the month for me.

This month was back to the cotton bag. These ones are a little bigger then the others so you can get more in if you plan to reuse them.

This months theme is Sewing Seeds.  The little extra is a sticker, I prefer when they send candy personally.

I love this case!  I like the colours and the leaf pattern.  This one is up there with my favourites from them.

This is still one of those subscriptions that I’m on the fence about keeping.  I like getting a new case each month but the exchange rate still hasn’t come back up so this one is costing me a bit more then I’d like. I’m 98% positive this will be my last one. It’s still cheaper or comparable to buying them from a mall kiosk though.  If you want to get your own cases you can check them out by clicking here.

Birchbox May 2015

With Birchbox you get monthly boxes of five personalized beauty samples, tailored to your profile. They promise to help you try cult brands, up-and-coming lines, and everything in between.  They also say you will never receive the same product twice.  Birchbox runs at $10.00 per month plus $4.95 shipping but you can get yearly plans for $100.00 plus shipping as well.  This makes it one of the more affordable boxes out there. Each box is different and reflects the theme of the month.

20150528_124600 20150528_124614

So this month I actually got the designed box, unlike April.  The box reflects the collaboration between Birchbox and Cupcakes and Cashmere, a blog about “Elevating Everyday Life”.  The writer of that blog, Emily Schuman curated this months box.

20150528_124625 20150528_124637

The front of the card has a message from Emily.  The back lists the products and prices, plus how to use them.

BeeKind Body Lotion-30mL $2.38

I like these type of products that support a cause as well as provide me with something.  A portion of the proceeds goes to supporting honey bees.  The lotion itself is quite thin but the smell is nice and it soaked in really well.  I think this sample will last a while just because it spreads alot.

Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therapy Body Wash-40mL $3.04

This body wash is infused with marine extracts.  It smells good but I can’t think of what it is that it smells like.  It might be slightly masculine.  I tend to use mostly shower gels so I like getting the samples and they are small enough that I get through them before I end up with a whole crapload.

LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil in Menatour-$17.54

This sample is a little more than half of a regular size.  I have to admit that I saw this colour and went Oh Hell No but somehow it works.  It goes on a little less potent and smells really good!  It was also really nice to apply with no tugging or dryness.

Number 4 Non-Aerosol Hairspray-30mL $5.10

I use hairspray way less now then I used to but I like the pump style ones better.  They give you more control over where you’re putting it then the sprays.  This is supposed to nourish your hair as you use it but it is your standard alcohol based hairspray so I’m not sure how valid that claim is.

Raw Spirit Fragrances Desert Blush EDP-1mL $6.00

This says it’s a floral but I just get spicy musk on me.  I am uncertain if I like it so I’ll have to give it another few tries to see.  It’s definitely a going out perfume not an everyday one though.  It’s very notice me.

This months value for this box was $34.06 but half of that is the lip gloss. You get points for reviewing your box items, that you can then use in their store.  If you find a product you love, any item in your box has free shipping for the month also. The American boxes do have a few more perks like selecting one of your samples and a mens box but I am hopeful once they get settled in Canada the same types of options will be available.

If you want to sign up send me a message and I can get you a link.  You can also go to their Canadian site by clicking here.

Glossybox May 2015

Glossybox gives you 5 deluxe samples of beauty products a month for $21.00 plus $5.00 shipping to Canada but do get cheaper with longer terms.  The buzz on the interweb feels that Glossybox has one of the best packaging of any of the boxes.  Every month they curate a selection of high-end, niche, and trendy beauty products in deluxe travel sizes that they send out and I thought I’d give them a try.  They only recently started shipping to Canada.

The box is back to normal this month.  Still all carefully wrapped and tied with a bow once you first open it and then under that was my goodies.

20150527_213410 20150527_213421

The info card is really nice with this box.  It gives great pictures of the products, the price for full size, and tips on how to use each item.

Teeez Trend Cosmetics Head Over Heals Nail Lacquer in Cotton Candy-$14.00 Full Size

According to the card there were a few different shades sent out.  I like this pink colour and think it’s a great spring colour.  The brush is really odd to me.  I’ve never owned polish by this company before and they have a flat brush instead of the usual round that most use.  It makes it easier to apply as you only need two swipes and your whole nail is covered.

Doucce Mineral Matte Lipstick in 907-$20.00 Full Size

The tube of this lipstick is very cool.  It is completely mirrored and half round/half square.  The lipstick itself was really dry and a little hard to apply.  It pulled at my lips and maybe would have been easier to use if I used a brush to apply.  The colour itself is good though.  A darker pink with a hint of mauve.  It does promise to last and has an SPF10 too.

Clearista Retexturizing Gel-15mL $10.00

This smells awesome!!!!! It has a light rose scent that I really like.  It is made to be used after cleansing to smooth skin and help get rid of dry patches.  It has some type of scrubbies in it so it seems kind of like an exfoliant.

Glamglow Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment-15g $20.29

I know this was a much wanted sample this month for lots of people.  The Glamglow products are highly recommended and I can’t wait to try this out.  This is a mask that you apply to clean skin and then let dry.  It will help you to get a velvety finish to your skin by providing detoxification and renewal.  It’s good for all skin types as well.

Sebastian Professional Stylbrid 9 Hairspray-44g $4.99

I haven’t received hairspray in a while from my boxes so this is definitely welcome.  This is an all around hairspray not only giving hold but also texture, curl definition, UV protection and shine.  It is also alcohol free so no drying out your hair either.

This months box was okay for me.  I like everything included and there are no meh items.  The value this month is super high thanks to the Glamglow, $69.28.  There were two full size products and the other three were sample sized but still larger multiple use sizes.  This box has been a consistent winner and is worth the slightly higher price tag to me.

Dive Bar Shirt Club May 2015

Dive Bar Shirt Club is a monthly subscription that sends out a limited edition t-shirt from a random bar every month.  Each shirt is only available for that month and then that’s it.  Their tag line is “T-shirts from the best bars you’ve never heard of”. Shirts are $22 a month unless you need XXL or XXXL sizes then add $2.50 and $3.50 respectively. Shipping outside of the USA is $5.  They are just a reoccurring subscription so you can cancel anytime before the next payment is due.  This has been a great find as Hubby looks forward to this one every month.

20150526_221446 20150526_221455

This months postcard takes us to New Diggings General Store & Inn Tavern in Benton, WI.  It started out as a place for miners to get everything they needed and now serves up food and beer to the biker crowd.  It looks cramped and cluttered, which seems to be the hallmarks of a good dive bar.  It has live music on the weekends and a beer garden for those hot summer nights when you need a cool drink and some stars.

The shirt is the vintage tee style again…Yay!!  It just has the logo on the front, the back is blank.  It  is a nice shirt and I like it.  Hubby was a bit peeved that they put the stuff on the front and not the back.  I don’t get it but I know he’ll still wear it.

We are winding down with this present for my husband and I’m not sure what I’ll do for gifts once this is done but he now wears these shirts all the time so I think I scored a win.

Beauty Box 5 May 2015

Beauty Box 5 is a subscription box that sends out 5 products or samples every month. They might be makeup, beauty accessories, hair, skincare, fragrance, body, or nail products. It is another of the cheaper ones at $12 a month or even less if you sign up for a longer term. They do charge $3 a month to ship to Canada though.  If I’m being honest though this box has been very hit or miss for me.  Sometimes the products included are so random or so not what I would think should be in a beauty box that I wonder what they are thinking.  Other times it’s really good.

The box felt really light this month but first glance seemed good.

20150522_145717 20150522_145727

The theme this month is S.O.S.-Super Outstanding Skin.  The card lists the items and retails plus a little blurb about each one.

Also included was a card for Syyli-Style giving you 25% off any order.  I haven’t looked at the site yet but it’s good till June 30th.

Bio Swiss Stainless Steel Mini Tweezer-$4.99

I was just looking in the mirror this morning thinking I needed to get at my brows!  These little tweezers come in a case so that you can throw them in your bag without worry and have a nice slant for grabbing.  I seem to lose tweezers a lot so I am happy to have these.

20150522_150010 20150522_150047

Ahava 3 Sample Pack-$6.00

This little envelope has Time To Clear Purifying Mud Mask, Deadsea Water Mineral Hand Cream, and Time To Hydrate Essential Day Moisturizer.  All three use minerals from the Dead Sea to provide a “Sensorial Experience”.  These are quite small so each is really only good for one use but since you did get more then one kind I guess it works out okay.

Styli-Style Blush/Highlighter Stick-$5.99 Full Size

There was an assortment of colours sent out in boxes of these guys and mine is a highlighter not a blush.  It is a colour I would describe as champagne and once on my skin all you see it the shimmer, which I like.  It was a little stiff to spread on but blended quickly.

Dermalogica AgeSmart Multivitamin Hand and Nail Treatment-$2.50 7mL

This anti-aging hand cream soaked in super fast!  Maybe I really needed some lotion today. It has no scent and is not greasy at all.  It was pretty thick too.

Coastal Scents Classic/Synthetic Brush-$1.95

This was another item that had a few variations being sent out.  I got an eyeshadow brush and it looks fine.  It’s never a bad thing to get more brushes.

This months box was one of the good ones!  I like everything and if I had to have a complaint it would be that I got two tools in the same box.  However since I will use them both, it’s a small complaint.  The value this month is $21.43, which is pretty average for them and about double the cost.  If you want to try out BB5 I’d keep my eyes open for the sales.  You can find this one on sale for about $6.00 a box every few months!

WelliBox May 2015

WelliBox is a Canadian box focusing on healthy options.  It sends you 5-10 samples per month and you can choose your category from womens, mens, 50+, or performance.  Boxes are $10 per month, less with longer plans,  and you are promised $25 worth of products.  Since I’m trying to get healthier and lose some weight I thought it would be a good idea to get a box that might help me out.

2015-05-12 13.09.18

As normal for this box there is no info card and a mix of things I don’t normally buy.

2015-05-12 13.09.35

Red Raspberry Ketones Vegicaps-$20.00ish for 90

I can;t find this exact brand for sale but there are plenty of others selling this same product at around that price so that’s what I’m going with.  These are a supplement that help you with weight loss by shrinking fat cells, decreasing fat absorption and increasing  thermogenesis  They are made using organic berries that are freeze dried.  There is nothing odd in the ingredient list so I’ll give them a go.

2015-05-12 13.09.46

Nature’s Field Natural Omega-3 Softgels-$20.00ish for 120

Again I found many options for these but not this exact brand.  I want to take Omega-3’s but the fishy taste makes me sick, literally.  I have tried before and for some reason they make me burp and the taste then makes me throw up.  I’ll try these but I have very little hope of it being better since they are made from salmon, anchovy and sardines.  They are mercury free though which is great.

2015-05-12 13.10.09

JSK Pro Protein Crunch-$4.99 156g

These are slow dry-roasted pumpkin seeds make into granola by mixing them with sesame seeds and corn syrup.  They are cut into little bite sized squares and are delicious!  I might even be able to get Bug to eat them they are so good.  Yum!!

2015-05-12 13.10.24

Trachealth Chia+Superfoods-$2.08

I’ve received a different flavour of these before and have yet to try them because I’m not sure I can get past drinking chunky water.  The website promises it tastes great.  I’ll have to give them a go one of these days.

2015-05-12 13.10.34

Pure Organic Chocolate Brownie Bar-$3.00

This looks delicious.  Sometimes I get to eat these but most of the time I give them to the kids as a snack.  I like that they are a slightly healthier option then the chocolate covered ones.

2015-05-12 13.10.42

Promax LS Energy Bar-$3.00

This is a chocolate fudge bar.  I rarely buy these protein/energy bars because I love them and will eat five at a time if they are around. Which completely defeats the whole purpose of them.

This month has a value of $53.00, so well above the $25 they promise.  I like that I get to try out a bunch of supplements I mostly have never heard of and it gives me a chance to decide what I might need or should be taking.  I am still cautious with reading the labels since I do still breastfeed my little one and some of these things want you to discuss taking them with your doctor in that situation, but that is to be expected with any new supplements. The last few boxes have been really good and the supplements have long expiry dates making more likely I can finish them before they go bad.

Volupties April 2015

Volupties is a monthly subscription service that delivers you three pairs of panties each month.  You select your size and they do the rest.  The also offer a non-plus size subscription on their sister site Splendies.  Subscriptions are $17.00 a month, though you do get $5.00 off your first month.  Shipping to Canada is $7.00.  I think that paying $8.00 each for a pair of panties is pretty good.  I would normally pay around $5.00 for sure and this way I get to find some different ones that maybe aren’t available here.

They showed up in a white mailer envelope with them wrapped up in tissue inside.  There is no info card included.

They say they are shipped discretely but the label is pretty self explanatory.

The first pair I unwrapped are really pretty.  They are black cotton/spandex with lace on the top and around the leg openings.  They are low rise which is nice and they are on the sexy side, which after having two babies is a pleasant change for the plain ones that become the norm.

The next ones are grey and seem like what you would wear under a power suit.  They are a polyester/spandex blend and have lace detail at the front sides.  You can;t really see it in the picture but there is also some embroidery stitching from the lace to the crotch.  They are a high waisted pair and remind me of shaper panties though they don’t have that function.

The third pair are the only ones that have a tag on them.  These are from Pucker Up! and have a retail of $14.00.  That is most of the price of the subscription and that’s good.  These are grey with pink, teal and black stripes and lace and ribbon trim on the top.  They are fun!

I think this is a good subscription.  The first ones shipped out within a week of ordering and then they ship out on the 19th of each month after.  They are promising a pair from Honeydew in Mays box, which means nothing to me but I’m guessing that’s a good thing.  If you want to try them out make sure you use “VOLUPTIES” to get you $5.00 off.

FabFitFun Spring 2015

FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription box that brings together fashion finds, beauty secrets, and fitness gear put together by the FabFitFun team.  It is $49.99 a quarter but there are always deals to be had so the price of the box can be lower or you can get extra free products depending on when you sign up. They guarantee a value of at least $100 in every box, but I’ve yet to see anything that low.  This is only the fourth box that has been available for Canadian shipping from them I believe.  There are always a few spoilers out on this box each time so if you want a complete surprise this might not be the best option unless you have supreme willpower to avoid peeking at them.  I got my box in what must have been the last mailout of them because it seemed like everyone else has had theirs for at least a month before I got mine.

20150505_132502 20150505_132516

Inside everything was nicely wrapped up and cushioned.  I could see my scarf and a few other items but lots was still hidden.

The info card is huge and tells you a bit about each item included.  It also lets you know the value for the box, which this quarter was $273.89.  There are only 10 items this month so I think it’s pretty reasonable.

Jules Smith Scarf in Watercolor-$42.00

This was an item you could put in a request for colour of.  There were two choices and I think this is the one I wanted but I can’t remember.  Either way I like it and it is now the first non-winter scarf I own so I am looking forward to figuring out how to wear it.

Palmetto Derma Collagen Booster and Restoration Serum-$48.00

This serum is made to help slow down the aging process, fill fine lines and minimize wrinkles by boosting your collagen growth.  I’m all for it and I’ll give it a go.  I never have too much faith in these claims but if there is improvement then it’s always a bonus.   It has no scent really so that’s nice too.  It’s pretty thin so I think it will last a while since you don’t need much.

20150505_132835 20150505_132943

Merrithew 3 DVD Set and $25 Gift Card-$61.00

This workout DVD set uses HIIT training to get you bikini ready. I’m thinking it’ll take more then a few sessions of a DVD to make me totally comfortable in one but I do like Pilates and have done it before so I should be able to pick this up pretty quickly.  The gift card gets you the discount off any of the 500 items they sell on their website.  I haven’t checked out what shipping is yet so this may not be too useful depending on that.

OFRA Cosmetics Eyeshadow Brush Duo-$45.90

Holy moly these are some expensive brushes!  The thinner one is for eyeshadow application and the other one is a concealer/foundation brush.  I have been slowly replacing my old brushes as I get new ones in boxes so these will shortly become everyday use.

ORLY Nail Polish in Cake Pop-$8.50 and ORLY Nail BB Creme-$15.00

The BB creme is for use as a base when you want natural nails.  It smoothes and leaves a slight peach colour.  The polish is a very pail pink that is going to be super cute for summer, once I have a bit of a tan to show it off.

Yasi Metallic Flash Tattoos-$36.00

I cannot believe the price of these!!!!  Who would ever pay that much for temporary tattoos???  I’m not sure that I will wear these but thankfully I have a little one who will love them.  I think this is just odd.

Rifle Paper Co. Cities Coasters Set-$16.00

These are so cool!  I don’t think I’ll use them as coasters though because I wouldn’t want to ruin them.  They are just paper like the kind you get in bars so a water ring will be the end of them.  This is a set of 8 with four designs.

Miracle-Gro Gro-able Seed Pod-$1.49

This is one of the two sponsored items in the box.  I don’t mind that they include them if it gives them a way to have other items included.  I’m kind of excited about this one as fresh basil is handy to have around and I’m sure I could grow this without killing it…….maybe.

Cosmos Creations Premium Puffed Corn-$1.49

This is an all natural popcorn snack that is also gluten free.  It has no hulls or kernels either.  I am a HUGE popcorn lover so this makes me very happy.

This box has a value of $273.89.  The only thing I more than likely not use is the tattoos so that’s pretty good.  This subscription has a few deals out now if you look for them so you can get all this for even less then normal.

I’d love it if you’d use my link to get yours!

Doodlebug Busy Bags May 2015

Hey everyone!  Sorry for the long break but between work and the kidlets being sick I just haven’t had much free time.  I have also been feeling completely exhausted and pretty much in bed by 9:30 each night.  Hopefully I can get caught up here for a few days at least.

A new subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags.  The website describes them as….”DoodleBug Busy Bags is a monthly craft subscription for kids ages 3 – 10. DoodleBug Busy Bags keep little hands busy and little minds active. Each month your child will receive a bag of 4 – 8 curated crafts, often centered on a holiday or seasonal theme, and all the supplies your child needs to complete each activity. Once completed, the crafts may be used as learning tools, decorations, toys, or given away as gifts. DoodleBug Busy Bags are fun, easy to complete, and help develop motor skills, creativity, hand-eye coordination, and confidence.”  Bags are $23.99 including shipping and go down with longer subscriptions.  This months theme is Gifts For Mom.

There are fewer crafts this month but they are all centered around Mom. This did arrive after Mother’s Day but as the sheet says these will be appreciated by Mom all year long.  We might do a few for grandma instead.

First up this month is a MOM Card.  The letters open up to make a card spelling out mom.  They also give you a selection of jewels, buttons, markers and glitter glue to decorate it up.

Next is an Artist Canvas and Easel.  You are supposed to use the same decorations from above to make mom a special picture

This one I was at a loss to before I read the description.  It is a Wind Chime.  Again you have to save some of the decorations to make this up but it looks cute in the finished picture.

Last up this month is a Bracelet.  The kids need to string the beads to make Mom a pretty spring bracelet.  This one will be our most challenging but it too looks nice.

As noted before all of these crafts are from Oriental Trading but since I don’t have to purchase them in large quantities off the site and everything we need to create is included in the bag, I like this. If you need glue or anything else that does not come in the prepackaged craft they make sure it’s in your bag so you really do not have to run to the store. It’s also nice that each of these crafts are fairly quick and we can do them in the short time between bath and bedtime when we need to be winding down.
