Kawaii Box February 2015

This week I don’t have too many boxes that show up but I am hoping to get Ipsy, Birchbox, and Kiwi Crate.  There is a slim chance for Glossybox and Avalai as well.  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Kawaii Box is a monthly box of items selected from Japanese and Korean kawaii products.  Kawaii means cute so everything is based on that premise.  They ship anywhere in the world with free shipping and the box is $18.90 a month.  This has quickly become one of my favorite boxes that I receive.  It is full of things that no one really needs, but I’m always so thrilled to get.  I cannot see me getting rid of this box anytime in the near future.  It just makes me happy on so may levels.

As always there is a hand written note instead of an info card.  It’s a nice personal touch, even if everyone gets the same one, which I’m guessing is what happens.

I love crazy socks and as soon as the snow storm in the forecast has let up and it gets warm again I will be rocking these.  Oh and that blur in the bottom corner…..that’s my Hubby who has tried on multiple occasions to stick his thumb in the pictures as I take them.  I’m hoping now with this success he will give up.

This is an AlPacasso coin purse.  It is the cutest little thing ever.  It has a zipper over the top and could be used for any small treasures you want to hide in it.  It comes with a little chain so you can attach it to a bag or your keychain even.

This little “purse” is a notepad.  It has a rainbow of pages in it and is about 2″x4″ so perfect for joting down those little reminders.

This is a panda foam squishy.  I still don’t have a use for all of these that I have received but maybe I could take them to work and line them up on my windowsill?  It’s kind of like a tiny stress ball and there are definitely days I need that at work.

These are photo decoration stickers.  There are two sizes, ones that would just hold a corner and then longer ones that would cover the whole edge of a photo.  I do not scrapbook….I just do not get the point but I think I will put these to use even if it’s just a craft with Bug.

This is a length of ice cream cone grosgrain ribbon.  I have visions of using this to make bows for the girls hair.

Pocky Panda Sticks!  There has yet to be a flavour of these I do not like.  These look like chocolate sticks with white chocolate dip and chocolate crumbles in them.  I’m watching what I eat right now so I’m going to hide these away from the kids and savour them later.

Sticky notes!!!! There are few stationery options I like more then sticky notes.  These have a bigger pad and five little tab like ones. While my coworkers may think I’m insane (not that I have a valid argument otherwise)  they will soon be the recipients of memos from me with these on them.

A pen made for a princess and I am pretty sure I qualify.  There is a crown and sceptre on the top of this and it writes pretty well to boot.

This is a pencil shaped binder clip.  I want to take it work to use but I think it would develope legs so I will clip things to my hearts content at home with it.

I can’t find the picture for some reason but there was also a pencil case with three pencils, an eraser, pencil sharpener and ruler with cute cartoon animals on them included.

Topbox February 2015

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!  Hope your loved ones remember and you get the pampering you want and deserve!

Topbox is a Canadian beauty subscription that ships you 4 samples every month.  The shipping is free, which is nice, but there is tax based upon your province.  This still makes it one of the cheapest boxes out there at $12 per month.  Topbox normally comes is a cardboard container but you can chose to receive your products in a reusable organza bag for even less waste, which is my choice.  They also offer special boxes that you can put on your wish list and you may get them or you’ll get the regular box. Lately they seem to be shipping out earlier in the month then they used to which is nice, since a lot of my boxes come in the last half.  This month I also got the shipping info email the same day it showed up in my mailbox.  I like surprises so that didn’t bother me in the least.

The purple mailer it arrives in.  It’s been a bit since I showed it so I thought I’d post it again.

As I mentioned above, I opt for the bag instead of the cardboard tube.  I would just have to recycle the tube anyways since I wouldn’t use them for anything else, though I’m sure you could.

The info card.  It is nicely descriptive so you get a good idea of everything you are receiving.  This month they did send out an email though because one of the items on the card is the wrong product from the company.

Eyeko Hydrogel Eye Patch-1 set $4.50

You use this to anti-stress and anti-fatigue your eye area.  I am all over this right now.  I just need to find 20 minutes to use it……

DERMADoctor, Inc. KP Duty Lotion-30mL $10.00

This was the mistaken item this month.  The card lists us as getting a pore minimizer and instead we got this moisturiser. I would have been happy with either so it doesn’t matter to me.  This formula is made to improve dry skin and help with those little bumps that can appear on your skin.  It doesn’t smell the greatest but since it will not be used on my face it is less of an issue then it could be.

L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil-35mL $3.36

This smells really nice.  I have tried a few items from L’Occitane from boxes and I have never been disappointed yet.  I always think of them as a higher end brand so even just a simple shower gel feels like a treat to me.  This is an oil that magically transforms into foam when it comes into contact with water.  Can’t wait to try it out next shower.

Teeez Trend Cosmetics La Isla Chique Brush

This is a natural goat hair pencil brush.  I like the design on the handle and while I’m not certain I think this would be used as a liner brush.  It’s small and pointed at the end.  The website does not have any pricing on it so I’m not sure of a value.

This months box has a value of $17.86 plus whatever the brush is worth making it about $10 above what I paid if the brush is around $5, which seems fair.  I like everything in the box and will use it all.  This is still a box I’m undecided about keeping but it is one of the few that is Canadian so I don’t have to pay the exchange rate, making it very reasonable.  The last two have been more varied and contained products I was happy with so I think it’ll get another month yet.  If you are interested in getting your own Topbox send me a message and I can give you a link or you can visit them here.

Posts are Coming…..I Promise!

Hey everyone.  I know posts have been few and far between lately and I promise I am working on getting them back to being more regular.  Going back to work has taken up a huge chunk of my day….who knew right?…..and so my evenings have become a little more harried since supper, bath, and bedtime for the wee ones happens in a fairly quick succession once I get home.  I was planning to get things done after the girls were in bed but Bear has lately decided that sleep is only for the weak, so I’m crashing as soon as she goes to bed so that I can maybe get a little more sleep before she wakes again. In the last 77 hours I have had 12 hours of sleep.  I’m not sure what the breaking point is where my body simply shuts down but I’m hoping that we get this figured out and I can get beck to having a normal sleep schedule and posting schedule.  If anyone has any thoughts on how to get little ones to sleep I’m in desparate need of new tricks to try!!

Talk to you again soon….I swear!

Indulge Me Box February 2015

Indulge Me Box is a relatively new Canadian monthly box.  Boxes cost $20 per month with $5 shipping to Canada, but do get cheaper with longer subscriptions.  Each box will include a  mix of skin care, makeup, accessories and surprise gifts. They also promise to include at least five items in each box, though this may be changing in future months.

First look this month was pretty good.  I was sad to see that there was a powder over everything.  I could see just a corner of something orange that was the same color as the powder but it was a mess.

Accessories by Upper Canada Peppermint Infused Cozy Socks-$7.00

I love fun socks.  Fuzzy socks are right up there too.  These have peppermint oil in them to help smooth and soften your feet as you wear them.  I have had similar type socks from other companies and like them.  I have no idea if they actually do anything for my feet but they keep them warm and that’s all I need.

Eyes By ToGoSpa Coconut Replenishing Treatments-$12.50

I have been seeing these things all over the internet lately.  Bear has been antisleep for the last little while, coupled with me going back to work, so something that will soothe my eye area and help to make it look like I might have had more then 3 hours of sleep is awesome.

Poppy & Elle Ribbon Hair Ties-$5.36

I have become enamored with these things.  I like getting them as often as I can and wear them every day.

Elbow Grease Relaxing Solid Lotion Bar-$3.50

Another handmade Etsy item, this is a bar that you just need to warm up in your hands and then rub on to moisturize for all day softness.

Scented Bath Fizzle in Orange Frosty

This was the source of all the mess.  There is a hole in the plastic wrap and it must have got mashed in transport.  I have sent an email to let them know and I have always had great response from them before so I expect nothing different this time.  This being broken doesn’t affect my ability to use this item once that bath ban is over…..only one more week to go.

I think this might be my favorite box from them so far, so I’m kind of sad that after this one they are switching up things and they are going to be sending out natural skincare, cosmetics & bonus items instead of lifestyle products.  I hope that they keep up with the level of quality that they have built up to over the last few months.  If you want to check them out visit http://www.indulgemebox.com

Ecocentric Mom January 2015 Mom and Baby Box

Ecocentric mom subscription boxes focus on healthy, natural, organic products. You can choose from a pregnancy box, a mom box, or a mom and baby box. They ship every other month and are $24. I went with the mom and baby box to get a few things for me while getting stuff for the wee one that is maybe less full of bad things then what I might just buy off a store shelf. With only two more boxes to go after this one before we age out of this box, I’ve been waiting for this one to arrive impatiently.

This one is so pretty once you open the lid.

Under that paper was a full box!  Sigh….no info card in this one either…..the packers of my boxes must have been conspiring against me this month.

Snack Out Load Foods Crunchy Beam Snack in Tomato Basil

My first thought upon seeing these was eww.  After I remembered I’m an adult and shouldn’t be so picky right off the bat I read the package and these might actually be good.  They are also high in protein, which is something my new eating plan is big on so I’ll have to have these as a snack sometime soon.

Botanic Bath Infusion Rose Retreat Bath Salts

This is the mom part of the box and they smell great.  It’s another item I will have to use after I can bath again.  Only  a week and a half left in my ban.

Organic Flavrs Topical Peach Drink Mix

I use water flavors all the time to help me drink more water then I would if it was plain.  I have never tried this brand but  I’m excited to because I haven’t found a peach flavored one around.

KeriCure Natural Seal Skin Protectant

Bug is so clumsy (she takes after me) that this will be so handy once the snow goes away and we can run around outside again.  This mimics your own skin to provide a coating over boo-boos to keep germs out. There was also a coupon for $1.50 off (you’ll see it in the last picture).

20150206_125057 20150206_125138

Mama Loves Me Book

Bear is just starting to enjoy books and I’m sure Bug will just steal this anyways but we never turn down a book in this house.  I am a voracious reader and am doing my best to raise a couple more.  The cool part of this book is that the trunk goes through all the pages.  It’s a story about what mom does for her baby and the baby’s favorite things.

Amara Organic Dries Baby Food Apple Flavor

Bear is not a fan of baby food.  She never wanted any that I made for her and would just rather eat whatever everyone else is eating.  I’ve read that other people throw stuff like this into their smoothies so maybe I’l give that a try to use it up.

BumBoosa Bamboo Baby Wipes 2 sample packs

These are an all natural bum wipe.  Since I normally just go with whatever I have a coupon for or the jumbo box from Costco these will be a change.  However 2 wipes is not even enough for one poop cleanup so that’s a bit disappointing.

Kelapo Extra Virgin Coconut Oil 2 Sample Packets

I keep hearing about coconut oil and the amazingness of it but I have never used it for anything.  I’ll have to see what I can cook with this.

20150206_125355 20150206_125427

eInvite.com Note Cards

This is a little booklet with a bunch of different designed flat note cards.  I think it’s cute and the cards are made out of nice thick stock.

This was all the paper at the bottom of my box.  I had hopes that one of these was an info card but alas…..

There was a pamphlet on the wipes, an advertisement for reusable food pouches, the coupon, a discount code for Pura Botanicals, and a discount code for O & N Collective.

I think this was a good box.  There was lots of stuff to try and a good mix of food and nonfood products.  I’m going to try to use all of the stuff even if I have to improvise on a few items.  You can check them out by visiting http://www.ecocentricmom.com

WelliBox February 2015

Can I just start off by saying how much I dislike that useless extra r in February???  Seriously no one says the word or pronounces it with it so we should just take a vote and have it changed.

Anyways…WelliBox is a Canadian box focusing on healthy options.  It sends you 5-10 samples per month and you can choose your category from womens, mens, 50+, or performance.  Boxes are $10 per month, less with longer plans,  and you are promised $25 worth of products.  Since I’m trying to get healthier and lose some weight I thought it would be a good idea to get a box that might help me out.

I ordered the womens box and it arrived after only a 5 day shipping period. Love things that come from my own country!  Oddly there is no info card or letter telling me what I received or how to use it.  Also there is no place on the website to look that up either, so that’s a bit of a downer.  I’m not sure if that is normal or if this was just an oversight but we’ll see next month. On to the products.

Garden of Life Raw Protein Vanilla Whisper 24g-$2.27

This is a single serving, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, gmo free, and organic brown rice protein.  I am glad this is vanilla flavored because I strongly dislike the taste of protein powders.  I will toss this into my next smoothie because I’m pretty sure it will be icky just mixed in water as they say to do.

Biovita Therapeutic Herbal Tea Chamomile-3 Pack $0.91

I drink tea all the time and love chamomile so this is great.  It helps with digestion, as does all chamomile tea, so I usually have a cup just before bed.

Wild Rose Black Currant Dietary Supplement

I cannot find this online anywhere.  The website on the bottle doesn’t take me to a useful page at all.  Really wishing for that info card right now. Black currant oil is an essential fatty acid used to for anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and anti-viral purposes.  It is supposed to help block the flu, slow aging, and relieve arthritis symptoms.

Biocore Food Science CoreOmega Capsules

You are supposed to take 3 capsules a day.  Considering these expire in March of this year that’s the only way you could finish this bottle.  Omega-3 is useful for maintaining mental health and digestive health.

Biocore Food Science CoreVitamin D2 Capsules

I already take a vitamin D but this one is made from mushroom powder.  This one also expires in March so I guess I need to switch and use this one first.

Emergen-C Acai Berry Vitamin C Effervescent Powder Sample

I actually have this brand and product but in pill form so I’m interested to try it as a drinkable source.

I could not find a pricing on most of these products.  While I was able to locate manufacturer’s websites they just gave information and not items for sale.  When I signed up for this box I was hoping for more items like the protein and vitamin packets then the supplements but I’m sure that they will find all kinds of things in the coming months that I’ve never tried to send me.  For the price I paid for the box I feel like I got a good array of products.  I can’t say if the value is for sure the $25 they promised but I know vitamins are never cheap so it’s probably close.

Bare Bliss Box December 2014

Bare Bliss Box is an organic, vegan, and toxic free makeup and beauty product subscription.  You can subscribe month to month or in three month increments.  It is either $16.99 a month or $12.99 if you choose to pay in the three month option plus shipping to Canada of course. This box always takes a long time to get to me, and this month was worse since they forgot to ship me one at all.  I had originally signed up for a three month term and since it’s always been one of the last boxes I get each month I didn’t really think to much of the fact that it sometime in January and I still didn’t have it.  I finally sent them an email and asked them if my box had been shipped out or what was happening.  The responded quickly and said they would get it out to me the next day.  After the usual long shipping time it finally arrived.

First look is nicely wrapped as always.

The info card has some winter skin tips on the reverse side and the products and full sized retails on this side.

Pura Bela Creme Deodorant-1oz $5.00

I recently received a different creme deodorant in another box and while I was originally a little weirded out by having to rub it in with my fingers, I am now okay with it.  This one is the same idea but they included a little scoop to get it out of the jar.  This one has a bright and fresh scent, so it should mask any sweat smell that I may work up.

Mungo Murphy’s Sea-Bags-1 Bag $4.13

You are supposed to steep this in hot water, then transfer the water and bag into your bath.  After you soak you can reuse the bag as a scrub the next time you shower.  It will help with circulation, detoxifying, stiff muscles and some minor skin irritations.  Once my one month bath ban from my surgery is over I will be giving this a try.

The Coye Candle Co. Luxury Soy Candle in Home For The Holidays-$16.00

This smells great!  It would have been perfect for Christmas if it had showed up then but it may have to wait now because it’s really festively scented.  This is about a half size from the ones you can buy but still will last for a long burning time.

doTerra On Guard Natural Whitening Toothpaste-2x2g $0.20 each

This uses essential oils and polishing agents to whiten teeth and freshen breath.

Pure Natural Diva Radical Organic Facial Serum-0.08oz $8.00

This super tiny sample has Rooibus extract that will attack free radicals in your skin.  You need to warm it between your fingers then rub it on.  It doesn’t smell that great but since you need such a small amount I can deal with it.

As mentioned this was my last box from them.  I never really found anything I couldn’t live without so I let it go.  I think it was a good valued organic box and with the exception of this last box had no problems with them.

e.l.f Beauty Bundle New Year Bundle 2015

e.l.f. Beauty Bundle is a makeup box that ships every 8 weeks.  They ship out a variety of makeup and brushes from their own lines.  They have an assortment of products based on a central theme for that box.  This months bundle was New Year Bundle. The box starts at $19.99 every other month and promises to ship at least double that in the value of products.  It ships in a black box with their logo on it and looks good. All products are full sized as well. This month they sent out an email saying that due to the crazy weather boxes were a little delayed and just to keep their customers happy they were including items to up the box value.

As usual the products came in a drawstring bag.  For some reason there was not an info card included.

e.l.f studio Makeup Artist Brush Belt-$15.00

This is the extra product to make up for the late shipping.  I’d rather have just got more makeup.  I will never use this as it’s intended but maybe I can find a different use.

Mineral Eye Brightener in Buff-$2.40

This can be used as both a highlighter or an eyeshadow base.  It has no shimmer at all but is a perfect match to my skin tone.

Essential Nail Polish in Nude-$2.00

This is a 3 free polish.  The name of the color describes it perfectly, it’s a light buff color that is just slightly pink.

Zit Zapper Acne Treatment-$1.00

This contains a blend of salicylic acid, tea tree, witch hazel and camphor to help clear up zits.  It is a roll on applicator which is different from the type I normally use but I use it often enough that more is a welcome addition.

Pressed Mineral Blush in Wanderlust-$5.00

If I use a gentle touch I can wear this blush.  It’s a nice color but a bit too dark for me.  This makes me sad because I have received so few blushes from my boxes and this one is a mineral one to boot.  Maybe the eighties cheeks will come back into style and then I can just go for it.

Mineral Lip Tint in Rose-$2.40

This is another disappointment for me.  The color is just not working.  I like the feel of it on and the formula and that it is mineral but the color is so bad.

Matte Lip Color in Natural-$3.00

Oh good a color I can use!  There seems to be a running theme of natural and nude shades with this box.  As with most matte lip products this one feels a little dry on but it applies really smooth and as I mentioned the color is nice.

Contour Brush-$3.00

They have already sent me a pretty complete set of brushes in a previous box but I’m always glad for more.  The brushes are good quality for the price and because of their price I have no qualms about tossing them when they get older instead of washing them.

Pout Perfector-$3.00

You are supposed to use this just on the center of your bottom lip to create a glow.  I like it spread all over as a lip gloss.  It’s so sparkly that I shouldn’t be able to wear it alone but I think it’s great!

Eye Widener in White-$1.00

I do not have a white liner so this is good.  It is supposed to make your eyes look wider buy reflecting the light.  I tend to just put a dot of light eyeshadow in the corners to do the same thing.  I love that their liners come with a sharpener in the lid!

Retractable Kabuki Brush-$5.00

This is perfect for throwing in my bag for powder touchups.  The base has a collar that slides up and down to cover the brush before you put the lid on so no bristles get bent.

Mineral Eyeliner in Black-$3.00

Not much you can say about black eyeliner.  I like that it is mineral, it glides nice, and everyone has 52 black pencils.

This months bundle was pretty good.  While a couple of the colors are not right for me, that’s just the chance that you take when you get one of these boxes.  The value of the box is $45.80.  I have had no more shipping issues with them since the first box and like that the boxes are seasonally themed.  I also like that the product is so reasonably priced if I want more.

Danklo January 2015

Danklo is a monthly service that bills themselves as a “Monthly Life Enhancer”.  They ship out an assortment of things and “You’ll Never Guess What’s Inside”.  They have three shipping options ranging from $7.99 to $13.99 a month and you get from 1-2 to 1-5 gifts depending on your choice.  You do fill out a little survey so they have an idea about you and your likes. There will also be a cash prize in each box from $1-$1000.

They ship in a colorful bubble mailer.  It has been a different color each month so far.

Instead of an info card you get a little booklet detailing your surprises.

Farberware Flip-Grip Sharpener-$8.97

Hubby had just commented the other day that one of our knives was dull and now we can fix that!  I would never have thought to buy one of these myself so I’m quite happy with this.

Zeiss Clean Screen Wipes 20pk-$3.99

Our laptop and tv are always covered in fingerprints from the kidlets, so these are a lifesaver.  I’m not sure that they are much more effective then the damp cloth I use now but they will be used up in no time.

Retractable Charge & Sync Cable-~$5.00

I cannot find this exact charger online but similar ones seem to run at around $5.00 so that’s what I’m going with.  My backup charger cable crapped out last night actually so this is perfectly timed.  It locks out extended so you don’t have to worry about it pulling your phone off of whatever it’s sitting on.

Well it’s not the big money but it is a whole dollar more than last month and with the Canadian dollar dropping it’s almost like $3. American money is so plain looking but it spends fantastically.  Danklo had actually sent me an email asking if I was able to use American dollars up here or if I would like them to try to find Canadian ones……I’m sure you can guess my response.

This months treasures had a value of $19.96.  With shipping and the exchange rate that is less then I paid for the subscription.  I’m thinking that this is one that I’ll be dropping unless our dollar rebounds really quickly.  I like the idea of getting a completely random group of item each month but it’s hard to justify it when the value is not there.
