Fortune Cookie Soap Company Spring Soap Box 2015

Fortune Cookie Soap Company Soap Box is a quarterly box that gives you samples of their latest collections a few weeks before they put them for sale on their site.  You get a wide variety of products all based on the theme.  They have cute and cheeky names for their products and you get a code for 10% off of the full sized products with every box. This season’s theme is Wonderland.  I had actually tried to cancel this one before this box but forgot that they bill based on when you signed up not just before the box comes out so I missed the cutoff.

20150223_165044 20150223_165057

The box is well packed so nothing arrives damaged.  The info card is huge and gives you the products, a quip, and the scent breakdown of each item.

Almost Alice Fortune Cookie Soap

This is their signature item and I think they are cute.  There is an actual fortune inside of each one.

Twisted Tea Party Bath Tea

This green tea blend is made especially to be put right into your tub with you.  While it seems like an odd thing to do I’m sure it is refreshing as it claims.

Who Are You Incense Cone

You can either leave these in the bag and use as a sachet or burn like regular incense.  These smell really good!

It’s Only A Dream Whipped Cream

This is the most fabulous soft pink colour!!  To me it smells strongly of rose but they claim it only has hints of rose.  I’ll forgive them because it makes my hands so soft!

Off With Their Heads Bath Bomb

I am finally able to bath again after my surgery so I cannot wait to soak in a tub with this.  Bath products really do make me happy.  I’m easily satisfied.

Futterwacken Body Wash

How in the hell is that actually a word according to spellcheck?????  This is a grapefruit scented body wash.  So fresh!

Eat Me Perfume Oil

This is supposed to smell like cake and icing with pineapple and it’s pretty close.  The pineapple is for sure the top note but I like it and anything that smells like cake is a win.

We’re All Mad Here OCD Hand Sanitizer

I love me some sanitizer that doesn’t smell like alcohol and this is a great one.  It dries quickly and smells like mint and it’s purple!

The soap box is $28.00 every three months for those of us in Canada, shipping included.  They do sell out fairly quick if you don’t preorder.  It also is an automatic payment so if you don’t cancel you will be billed again for the next box, which is what happened to me.  The reason I wanted to cancel is that while I like the products, the samples are quite small.  It works out to $3.50 an item and while some of them are worth that, I don’t feel all of them are, just based on size.  You can check them out at

Doodlebug Busy Bags February 2015

A new subscription I’ve started getting for Bug is Doodlebugs Busy Bags.  The website describes them as….”DoodleBug Busy Bags is a monthly craft subscription for kids ages 3 – 10. DoodleBug Busy Bags keep little hands busy and little minds active. Each month your child will receive a bag of 4 – 8 curated crafts, often centered on a holiday or seasonal theme, and all the supplies your child needs to complete each activity. Once completed, the crafts may be used as learning tools, decorations, toys, or given away as gifts. DoodleBug Busy Bags are fun, easy to complete, and help develop motor skills, creativity, hand-eye coordination, and confidence.”  Bags are $23.99 including shipping and go down with longer subscriptions. Our first bag showed up the other day and it was for Valentine’s Day.  Even though it came after the day the crafts are still fun and Bug is so happy with them.

The bag came with this sheet detailing the included crafts and if any items were needed that were not in the bagged crafts, this let you know that as well.  I did not have to purchase any of the other items, they make sure to include those in your outer bag.

Rainbow Heart Magnet

This is the only project we have done so far and it was definitely at a skill level Bug  could do alone.

Jeweled Heart Ornaments

This makes three ornaments.  Everything is peel and stick so this should be another okay craft.

Tissue Paper Bear

This one might be a little above Bugs current skill level.  You have to crumple and glue pieces of tissue paper to the bear cutout.  I foresee mess.

3D Foam Valentine Heart House

This is another one that I think is geared towards the higher end of the age group.  Maybe if I do the big parts Bug can put all the finishing touches on and still be happy.

I Love You Key Chain

Bug will be all over this one.  She loves threading things and beads.  The bigger fight may be who she chooses to give it too……

Ladybug Valentine Tic-Tac-Toe

We haven’t really touched on how to play tic tac toe but it might be easier to get in a game form then on paper.

All of these crafts are from Oriental Trading but since I don’t have to purchase them in large quantities off the site and everything we need to create is included in the bag I like this.  The fact that each month is themed around a holiday is great too since Bug is at that age where holidays are super fun!!

BarkBox February 2015

Archie’s favorite delivery came today and he was all over the box when I brought it into the house.  BarkBox is a toy and treat box just for pups. Prices start at $29 per month but go down to $18 if you choose a yearly plan. Shipping to Canada is $5/month.  Along with the products part of your subscription cost is donated to dogs in need, so along with fun stuff for your pooch you are also helping out dogs that might not be as pampered as yours. You can select from tiny, small & cute, just right, and big & bold sizes to get a selection of products best suited to your dog. The theme this month is Mardi Gras!

I could see a few colourful items and a bag of treats once I got it open.

The info card lists the item, their retail price, and a code for reordering from their store if your pup just needs more!

Delca Jester Ball-$9.00

This is a squeaky ball with crinkles in the hat points.  Archie seems to like it but it has not been his most favorite toy we’ve got from them.

Etta Says Chicken Pot Pie Little Bitz-$9.00

These are super tiny little treats.  They are smaller then a dime in diameter and sort of soft.  The are grain free and 100% organic.  Archie likes them but because they are so small I think that we will use these for Freckles instead.

Aussie Naturals Salmon Half Cigar-$5.00

This was the first thing Archie went for once I opened the box.  Surprisingly it took him a few minutes to actually chomp it down.  It is just the skin of the fish with no flesh attached so I thought it would be gone in one bite.

New Angle Pet Junior Gulpy-$9.00

This is one of those things I see and think I should buy and never do.  As long as I can remember to bring it along this will make doggy drinks so much easier then pouring it into my hand and hoping he gets a few licks before it drips out.

Petsafe Catfish Po’Boy with Chicken-$7.00

These are jerky treats made from fresh meat.  Once they are open they need to be refrigerated because they will go bad.  The packaging is right on for the theme this month.  They are only about 2 inches long.

This box was not one of the best we have received from BarkBox but Archie still liked everything in it.  I think the main issues I have with it is that some of the items are for a smaller dog and we are set up to get the biggest dog size they offer.  Right now they have offered me a deal if you want to sign up for your pup you can get one month free!  If you would like to get this just shoot me an email and I can get you the link you need for your free box!!!!

Lip Monthly February 2015

Lip Monthly is a monthly subscription box that sends out a selection of lip products.  You also get your selections in a reusable makeup bag.  Lip Monthly is $10.00 a month, with reduced rates for 4 month or annual plans.  You also can accumulate points that can be redeemed in their shop.  Shipping to Canada is an additional $5 a month but this is still a really affordable subscription.  I am always surprised when I get this one as it comes in a plain white bubble mailer, and I never know what is in there till I read the label, I just can’t remember that it comes this way.

This months bag is a repeat bag from a few months ago.  Doesn’t really bother me but figured you would like to know.

20150223_164352 20150223_164401

The info card.  It tells us that the items included this month are supposed to go well with your Valentine’s outfits, however they ship really late and there is no way this would have ever made it here by the 14th.

So Susan Lip Dome in Black Currant-$10.00 Full Size

This is a plumping lip tint pencil.  I can’t say that I noticed any of the tingling that normally accompanies a plumping lip product but I like the colour and the application.  It is maybe just a touch dark for everyday but because it’s in pencil form I can use a lesser amount and feel okay with it.

Be A Bombshell Lipgloss in Hooked-$13.00 Full Size

This is a really thick lipgloss but it has a great shine.  The colour is again maybe just a bit dark but I think I’m just super pale from it being the middle of winter and not seeing the sun since sometime in October maybe.

Jelly Pong Pong Supermodel Stain Lip & Cheek Pomade in Runway-$25.00 Full Size

This is on sale on the Jelly Pong Pong site for $16.00 but regular price is correct even though I think it’s overpriced.  All the colours are fine, the included brush is useless and the formula is a little dry but goes on pretty smooth.  I am not that big of a fan of these types of lip products but this would be okay to just have in my bag.

Cargo Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Flint-$16.00 Full Size

I don’t know if these companies get a deal on the dark colours or what but this is the fourth or fifth dark grey/black shadow I have received. It’s a great brand and applies really nicely with great coverage but I would be happier if it was any colour but dark grey. This is their makeup mixup item for the month.

All totalled the value of this bag is $55.00 using the lower price for the one lip product.  That’s still great and everything is full sized which is also great.  This was not my favorite bag from them and I am only okay with the products not thrilled with any of them.  If you would like to sign up I’d love it if you’d use my link.

What’s Been Happening…..Just A Mess

Good Day Everyone,

Not that it has anything to do with my boxes but the weather here has been insane.  We went from minus 33 to plus 1 in 24 hours.  Now we have more snow again and some of our roads have been closed due to poor driving conditions.   I like snow and couldn’t imagine living somewhere without it but if it could just be snowy and hang out at around minus 10-15 for the duration of winter I would be happy!

We are in the last week of February (so soon to not have to spell that again for a year!), and I have a bunch of boxes yet to arrive.  I am waiting for Kiwi Crate(they had sent out an email saying they had a few issues and would be shipping really late this month), Phone Case Of The Month, Beauty Box 5, Dive Bar Shirt Club, Beauty Joy, Native Beauty Box, Avalai, Glossybox and Prudence and the Crow.  Nine boxes in four days????  I think early March will be getting it;s fair share.

In other box news….I had placed an order with Pick Your Plum, a daily deal site that has everything you could think of, for a grab box of girls clothes.  Even with shipping it was still a great deal and just from some of the stuff I had seen that they sell I knew it would be filled with cute things.  I placed my order in December and waited and waited and waited.  I sent them an email in January asking about it and they do not have tracking to Canada (such a silly thing but really common) so they asked me to give it a bit longer.  Last week I emailed them again saying guess what no box and they refunded me my payment with their apologies and told me to keep it  if it ever makes it here.

Last month I placed an order from Avalai as well.  They were so kind in that I had missed the shipping day by one day and so they sent me an email saying we’re so glad you’re trying us out we will ship you a box for this month anyways.  I was happy and glad they were so conscious of their customers. Unfortunately that box also has never shown up.  After an email exchange with them January’s payment was returned to me and they sent pictures of my next box being mailed out as proof they really did.

Finally this month I also received an email from Indulge Me Box.  March was to be their revamp month switching from a lifestyle box to more of a bath and body box.  However in the email they stated that they will no longer be shipping to my province and refunded me the remaining amount left in my subscription.  I am disappointed about this because I liked  this box and I was cautiously optimistic about the new way it was going to go.

I have a few reviews I hope to get posted coming up here in the next little while.  BarkBox is in, Lip Monthly, and Doodlebug Busy Bag, so you can look forward to those in the next few days.

Keep warm everyone!!!

Birchbox February 2015

The original beauty box that started it all in the States has finally made it’s way to Canada.  With Birchbox you get monthly boxes of five personalized beauty samples, tailored to your profile. They promise to help you try cult brands, up-and-coming lines, and everything in between.  They also say you will never receive the same product twice.  Birchbox runs at $10.00 per month plus $4.95 shipping but you can get yearly plans for $100.00 plus shipping as well.  This makes it one of the more affordable boxes out there and this is box number three for Canadians.

The boxes have been super fun looking.  This one is neon orange and pink.

20150220_175940 20150220_180004

Inside you find your info card and under that are your products.  All smaller items are tucked into a little box.

The card not only tells you what you got but how to use it as well.

20150220_180339 20150220_180408

Color Club Art Duo Pen in Black-$12.00 Full Size

I had no clue what this was when I picked it up.  Turns out it is nail polish.  It has a superfine brush for striping and the other side of the lid is a precise tool.  This was available in three colors and I’d have rather had the lavender or white before the black but I will still give this a try, even though I don’t normally do anything more exciting as nail art then applying a sticker or glitter coat.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain in Heartthrob-2.25g $10.69

This lip stain is really nice.  The colour is good for me and the formula is actually creamy.  It is another of the lipstick masquerading as a lip gloss that I am not to fond of but this one could change my mind.

20150220_180135 20150220_180142

Mereadesso All-In-One Moisturizer-12mL $28.00

I can’t even imagine how expensive a bottle or jar of this would be if this little sample is $28.00.  This will do probably for a week or more and it’s listed as a travel size not sample size.  The all in one part of this is that it can be your day and night moisturizer, eye cream, toner, and primer.  The only issue I have with this is that it stinks.  I don’t know which of the natural ingredients is the culprit but I’m disappointed about it because I think this will work well just based on the little I rubbed onto my hand to test it. The top of my hand now feels amazing.

Noir Cosmetics Long Wear  Eyeliner in Forever Noir-$15.00 Full Size

This is a good eyeliner.  I prefer any color of eyeliner instead of black for everyday but this one has a smooth application and I tried rubbing it off and it stuck.  It just faded a bit but didn’t smudge at all.  That is fantastic!!

Whish Three Whishes Body Butter in Pomegranate-22mL $3.92

This will moisturize, firm and purify skin.  It smells great, is non greasy, and absorbed really quickly.  I like it alot!

This month the box had a value of $69.61.  You also get points for reveiwing your box items, that you can then use in their store.  If you find a product you love, any item in your box has free shipping for the month also. The American boxes do have a few more perks like selecting one of your samples and a mens box but I am hopeful once they get settled in Canada the same types of options will be available.

If you want to sign up send me a message and I can get you a link.  You can also go to their Canadian site by clicking here.

Embellished Boxes February 2015

Embellished Boxes is a monthly box that sends you what you need to create two crafts. They focus on using items that you have around your home or that are inexpensive to purchase.  You get instructions and everything you need to complete the two projects. Subscriptions are $16.05 a month including shipping.  Even better is that Embellished is a Canadian company.  I have not been disappointed in any of the projects they’ve sent me so far.

These boxes always come nicely wrapped.  You can’t see anything when you open it up but it smelled quite strong this month.

The second look didn’t give me much more to go on, but it sure seemed Valentine’s themed.

20150217_132240 20150217_132301

Each box comes with a materials card detailing everything you can find in the box and an instruction sheet.  Each project only has three steps to completion. This month we get to make a soy candle and candy melts!

FOr the candle you get a jar, wax pellets, a wick, a colour cube, and fragrance.  In a weird twist the scent is a rhubarb strawberry scent, and I’m sure once it’s in the wax and all set up it will be fine, but the concentrated smell is a bit “skunky” if you know what I mean……

For the candy melts we get a heart shaped chocolate mold and pink, red, and brown candy discs.  I have been wanting to give chocolate making a go for a bit now so I’m happy to get these.

Even though this shipped a little late to use for Valentine’s both are still good projects.  I have unfortunately fallen behind a bit on getting these crafts done in the last few months so I have to find a few minutes and whip them up.  None have required a huge time commitment and most so far have been new skills for me, which is nice.

If you want to check them out click here.

Smoochable Handcrafted Products

Smoochable is a company started and run by a lady I went to high school with.  She really is the definition of a super woman.  She not only make the products but she has four children and a life beyond and above them.  I read about her exploits and just shake my head wondering how she finds the time to do everything she does and still sleep.  All Smoochable products are 100% naturally handcrafted and she started making them after her kids had skin conditions and she didn’t want to resort to the standard steroid prescribed options.  She kindly sent me these samples to try after seeing my posts about a few of the vegan and natural products I was receiving in boxes.

This is a facial cleanser.  You put it on to dry skin then add water to activate.  It removes eye makeup along with your regular makeup and whatever else you might have going on.  It left my skin feeling really soft and clean.  Sometimes you can feel a residue from cleansers and though this has an oil like texture right out of the bottle there is no trace of that after use.

This little spray bottle is toner.  You just mist it on your face after cleansing and go.  I am not sure what the ingredients are but it smells good. It’s not a perfume scent but more of a fresh clean one.  I also like that you can just spray it on instead of having to wipe it on with a cotton pad.

This is a face serum that she recommends you use instead of a moisturizer.  You need just a little and tap it in to damp skin.  I have used a few serums and while it is a different way of keeping your skin healthy I have found them to be effective.  This one is no exception to that.

These little pots are blush and lip balm samples.  The blush is a super natural looking color on and lip balm makes your lips “Smoochable”.

If you want to see her whole line of products or get pricing on any of them you can visit her Facebook page here and there are links on there to send her an email for any more questions you might have.

Ipsy February 2015

I just want to say again how happy I will be once I no longer have to spell February on a regular basis……come on March!

Anyways…..Ispy is a beauty subscription that comes in a bubble mailer. It is $10USD per month and includes deluxe samples and full sized products. All of your products come in a reusable makeup bag. This months theme is Ipsy Love.  All Ipsy bags are selected for the individual person so there is a wide variety of products possible to receive. There are plenty of spoilers with this one and you can see exactly what you will be getting a few days before your bag arrives by logging in to your account.

I think this months bag is super cute and I would even use it for more then just makeup.  As usual the card included simply tells you the theme and features one or more of their stylists.  All of your product info is found online.

City Color Cosmetics Creamy Lip Stain in Flirtini-$4.99 Full Size

I am not really liking this new trend of lip products that can’t decide what they are.  This is another one of those that comes in a lip gloss tube, with a lip gloss applicator, but it is more of a thin lipstick instead.  That being said the color and lip feel is quite nice.  It has full coverage and no shine and surprisingly the colour is not neon.

Emite Make Up Professional Eye Lash Curler-$25.00

Ugghhh……I hate eye lash curlers……they are the most useless and time wasting device ever.  There is no way in hell that I would ever pay $25.00 for one either.  This will get tossed into a drawer and promptly forgotten about until someone either asks me for one or maybe the girls can play with it when they are older.  Boooo!!

Eva NYC Up All Night Volumizing Spray-30mL $3.00

I have a lot if hair but it is super fine so I am always looking for ways to poof it up when I don’t want it pulled back out of the way.  This is a rice derived spray to help with extra texture and lift.  I want to hope this will work but you really need to use a blow-dryer to get the most out of these and I honestly can’t be bothered.  Flat hair it is then.

Mitchell And Peach Fine Radiance Face Oil-10mL $27.62

As you can see I didn’t remove this from the little baggie they shipped it in.  It has leaked and there is oil all over this bag.  Luckily because Ipsy did take the time to put it into a baggie, the mess is contained.  I contacted them and they are shipping my out a new one and if anything else had been damaged they would have sent me that as well.  After all that I am actually interested in trying this.  I had received a face oil in a different box and while I was originally leery of putting oil onto my face I was surprised at how quickly it absorbed and that it didn’t return me to my teenage greasy years.  This sample is a half size to the regular one so it’s a good sized sample as well and the price reflects that.  Also you need so little with a face oil that it will last a long time.

ModelCo Blush Cheek Powder in Cosmopolitan-3.6g $11.00

I don’t think this is a full sized blush so I’ve priced it as half sized.  I am going to have to stop complaining about not getting blush in my boxes as lately they have been coming through.  While this looks like an 80’s pink it goes on really sheer and leaves a subtle flush to your cheeks.

This month bag has a value of $71.61!!!! That’s insane for what you pay for it.  While I hate the curler, everything else is good and I love the blush.  You also get to review your items each month for points you can trade for other products.  I do have enough for a couple of the items now but am going to hold out and see if something I just need to have comes up.

If you would like to get in on the bag I’d love it if you’d use my link.  You can also visit their website by clicking here.

Little Life Box February 2015

Little Life Box is a monthly shipment of items that help you to try out items so you can try out healthier or alternative versions of things you use or eat everyday.  You will get up to a dozen items each month and they promise to never ship you the same item twice, though you may get a different flavour of the same item.  They are a Canadian company as well so that’s nice too.  Subscriptions will run you  $19.95 a month or less with longer plans.  They offer a purely Vegan option as well.  I went with their original box since I don’t have a preference towards vegan items.

20150209_165855 20150209_165906

The box is really nice and branded.  Inside was wrapped up tight and had a cute postcard on top.

I was shocked with how much stuff was in this box.  A lot of boxes are bigger than they need to be but this one was packed full.

All-In-One Nutritional Shake by VeganSmart-43g $2.33

This is a vanilla flavoured shake mix.  You can add it to pretty much any liquid you want or into a smoothie.  This has a whole bunch of good things in it and none of the bad stuff like fat or cholesterol.  Since I’ve been having smoothies every other day, this will more then likely be tossed in one of those.

Fortifying Shampoo & Conditioner by Neolia-10ml $0.20 each

I’m so glad to have received both shampoo and conditioner in this box.  This is made with organic olive oil, aloe vera, and moringa.  These are kinda small samples but I think I can get two uses out of them.

Hazelnut Milk Chocolate Bar by Camino-$4.29

Ooooohhhh! Chocolate……This looks so good.  It’s fair trade and organic and gluten-free.  It tastes like a normal bar and I would buy this again if I saw it in a store.

Colostrum Plus Chewables by Symbiotics-2pk $0.50 each

I have to say that I read colostrum and went eww, gross.  I mean, it’s all good for babies but so I really need or want to ingest this??  These promise to help with your immune system, just as it does for little ones.  They are pineapple flavoured and while I don’t know that two days worth will make a huge difference it really can’t hurt.

Natural Sunscreen by Goddess Garden Organics-30ml $3.33

This is an SPF30, broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen.  While I tend to skip it for myself unless it’s already in my lotion or moisturizer, I slather the girls anytime they are going to by playing outside at all so thi will come in handy.

Aphrodisiac Granola by Fourmi Bionique-300g $5.21

This granola has dark chocolate, roasted almonds, and currants in it along with the standard granola items.  It is made with local, organic and fair trade products.  I’m not sure how it can be aphrodisiac but maybe the dark chocolate part? It also came with a discount code for any online purchases from them.

Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts-15g $0.80

I have seen these everywhere lately but have never tried them.  They supposedly have a nutty flavour and can be eaten as is or used to top salad, cereal and yogurt.  I think it would be like granola maybe and I like that on yogurt so that’s how I think I’ll try these.

Spatone 100% Natural Liquid Iron Supplement-14x25mL packets $7.38

When I pulled these out of the box I shuddered…..I had to take iron supplements for both of my pregnancies and they were nasty!!!!  These seem to be just a naturally iron high water, that has been packaged and you simply drink one a day and it gives you what you need.  I’m going to put my reactions aside and try these but if the first one is horrible then I am unfortunately going to give up on them.

GoGo Quinoa Chocolate Chip Cookies-2 $0.56 each

Okay I’ll admit it….I’ve never had quinoa. Ever.  In any way, shape or form.  I think a cookie might be the way to start.  These are wheat and gluten free, vegan, dairy and egg free.  We are lucky enough to not have to deal with any food issues in our house but there really isn’t a down side to eating a little healthier… a cookie……

Woods Body Goods Lip Balm in Choco Latte-$4.50 Full Size

I am very excited to get this lip balm. Woods Body Goods is based out of my home town and I have been wanting to give their stuff a try.  They actually offer their own subscription box but at $40 a month they are out of my price range.  This balm is super nice.  It goes on creamy and soft and is paraben, gluten, and petroleum free.  I can only hope that there will be more different products from them in other boxes.

Also in the box were a few cards from some of the companies included.  The one from Manitoba Harvest has a discount code as well.

This box was a huge surprise to me.  It was FULL and I can’t wait to try all the things.  Some have already been consumed and others are going to be used up soon.  The value of this box was $30.36 and I received 13 individual samples.   I think if you are looking for a wellness box that this one is a great price and even for someone like me who is just starting to make an effort to be a little healthier and lose some weight it’s helpful and not basing their products on you having a fully developed knowledge of healthy options.  If you want to check them out click here.
