Dive Bar Shirt Club September 2014

My hubby is the worst at giving me suggestions for gifts for him for any occasion that would require me to show my affection in the form of a product. For our anniversary he asked for a pair of hockey gloves……

So I don’t even know what I was searching for but came across the Dive Bar Shirt Club. Their tag line is “T-shirts from the best bars you’ve never heard of”.  This turned out to be perfect. My hubby loves interesting tees and they promise that the shirts are retired after each month so unless you’re a member or happen to visit one of these bars the chances of running into someone wearing the same shirt is low. Shirts are $22 a month unless you need XXL or XXXL sizes then add $2.50 and $3.50 respectively. Shipping outside of the USA is $5.  They are just a reoccurring subscription so you can cancel anytime before the next payment is due.

The shirts come in just a regular plastic mailer bag, nothing fancy and have a postcard from the bars to tell you a little about each place. This months shirt is from Spike’s Keg o’ Nails.

I hadn’t told my hubby about the shirts till they showed up and he was thrilled with this one. Both of us are now eagerly awaiting the next in line.

Bark Box September 2014

So my very first subscription box arrived today! It’s actually one of my few non-beauty product ones. This one is BarkBox, a toy and treat box just for pups. Prices start at $29 per month but go down to $18 if you choose a yearly plan. Shipping to Canada is $5/month.  Along with the products part of your subscription cost is donated to dogs in need, so along with fun stuff for your pooch you are also helping out dogs that might not be as pampered as yours.  You can select from tiny, small & cute, just right, and big & bold sizes to get a selection of products best suited to your dog.  I have two dogs but I chose the large dog box as my little dog is 11 and has no interest in toys anymore and beyond that has no problem eating any size treat she can get her paws on.  As soon as it arrived Archie (the big dog) wanted in so I knew there had to be some good snacks in there for him. I have to admit I was expecting a bigger box though. From the photos I’d seen it seemed like it would be larger but upon opening I saw it was just well packed so I didn’t feel ripped off.

Outside of box and cute inner wrapping paper.

First look. This box’s theme is Homecoming so all products related to that.

Product card. This seems to be a staple item in most boxes from what I’ve seen. It details the products and gives a price for each. BarkBox also list a phone number and product code so that if you wish to get more of something your dog loved you can order it up.

PetProjekt Skrubal Football-$14

Says it’s made from 100% rubber and is quite heavy.  Archie has a tendency to destroy any toys that have ridges he can get his teeth on and it does say it is not indestructible so we’ll give it a go. He should get a few hours worth of enjoyment either way.

Fabdog Pom Poms-$10

Okay, so I was a cheerleader once upon a time, so to receive a dog toy that has pom poms on it tickles my fancy, especially as just yesterday I was thinking about football and cheering at games this time of year. It recommends using these as a tug toy not a chew toy. Tennis balls have a very short life span in our house but the rope part should be good.

Etta Says Duck Chew-$4

Have never tried a crunchy duck chew but any natural chew is a win.

Petsafe Indigo Smokehouse Strips Bacon-$7

Another natural product, this one has to actually be refrigerated after opening.  They look exactly like the picture on the box and are perfectly treat sized.

Barkworthies Sweet Potato Steak Fries-$8

I was a little put off originally by the fact that this appeared to be shipped in a regular ziplock bag. Upon inspection the bag is actually factory sealed with a tear off strip so it’s not so sketchy. They are cut and dried slices of sweet potato and say they are great for pups with delicate tummies or allergies. Gave one to Archie and he liked it. Surprisingly he had to actually chew it a few times so that’s even better.

Overall I am happy with my first box. I paid $23USD for it including shipping and it was worth $43. As we go through toys pretty quick getting a few a month will be great. The natural treats are also a bonus because some of the commercial ones tend to give us more to clean up if you know what I mean…..

On the inside of the box was a cute cartoon, not sure if this is standard butI like it!

Have a great day!!

A few firsts happening here for me. This is my first blog so hopefully I can get everything to work out the way it’s supposed to. I started this to document my journey into the addictive world of monthly subscription boxes. If you haven’t heard of them, what they are is a sampler of products delivered right to your door by various companies for a monthly rate or with most you can purchase them by 3,6,or 12 month plans. There are boxes devoted to pretty much everything you can think of, from beauty to undies to toothbrushes. I have signed up with a few (mostly beauty) and thought I would join the online community devoted to showcasing them.  A large percentage of the bloggers doing this are American, mostly I think since they have a much larger pool of subscription boxes to choose from, so this will provide a Canadian perspective and obviously only show boxes which deliver up here. All boxes are paid for by me and all opinions and thoughts on what I receive are mine alone. I just received my first one so my next post will be detailing that!!

Now a little about me. I am a thirtysomething mom of two who lives in the middle of the Prairies here in Canada. I love makeup and getting mail so the combination of the two makes me all giddy!!  I have just stepped into the sub box world and it has already become a bit of an addiction as I have spent some serious time online checking blogs, websites, and reviews to try to decide which ones I’d love and want to get.

Hope you enjoy my reviews and can’t wait to get started!!!
